Deadloch (2023)
Belter of An Aussie Show
Absolutely loved this! Hilarious, heartwarming, brutal at times, the language is spicy and the characters are just fabulous.
Great whodunnit with a thousand twists and turns due to some very smart writing. Could have happily watched another 10 episodes, here's hoping we get season two asap.
Terrific acting from a great cast including some stellar Australian regulars. The character development is so good across the board, most of them develop through the show really well.
Those who gave up early because of Eddie missed a treat. She irritated me at first but bloody loved her by the end. Bravo 👏 👏👏
The Gone (2023)
The Gone but hopefully not for long!
Really enjoyed this! Felt the characters were well rounded and enjoyed finding out all their back stories.
The plot was well thought out and a bit different to usual NZ dramas. The mix of Irish, New Zealand and Maori characters was excellent all the cultures creating diverse aspects to the plot.
There were some cliches like the moody detective with a secret but he wasn't a drunk and his secret was very different which kept him interesting.
Any negative reviews are just being picky this is definitely a higher standards than your typical terrestrial tv drama.
Loved the scenery the plot and the acting just have to wait patiently for season 2.
True Detective (2014)
My favourite season yet!
Loved the female leads. Jodie Foster was exceptional even for her standard. Newbie Kali Reiss is definitely one to watch she was very good opposite Foster.
I don't know why there are some really low ratings on this I can only put it down to different tastes in the Thriller genre. This was very much to my taste so maybe instead of saying it was poor could they have just said it was not for them.
I marked down slightly because although I generally like him, I thought Christopher Eccleston was miscast. However it was good to see Owen McDonnell again as the creepy Clark. Great supporting cast.
Loved the story, loved the setting, the days of night etc I did not want it to be over.
Bravo 👏👏👏
Catherine Called Birdy (2022)
Joyful Japes
So joyful great fun great cast and Bella Ramsey led it beautifully! I'm so looking forward to what is to come from this uber talented young woman.
Good to have the medieval slant on coming of age stories and the battle of wills between parents and children. The setting gave lots of different aspects to an age old story.
I haven't read the book and I'm not the target audience but it's a film my daughters will love. Only however is Lesley Sharp her accent almost made me stop watching but Billie Piper and Andrew Scott more than made up for it.
Highly recommend and definitely not just for teens and tweens.
Ridley (2022)
Average but could be saved
I love Adrian Dunbar and the stories are really good, I like the retired cop angle. However the singing makes me cringe 😬 not that it's bad it's just a bit 70's.
Also I struggle to watch Bronagh Waugh she always looking like she's acting. No real emotion whether the personal story or the detective work. I think the supporting cast otherwise is good. Someone mentioned Julie Graham was miscast but again I think it's the whole nightclub/singing arc doesn't gel.
It's also good that it's not set in a main city for a change which is refreshing.
Stop the singing and replace Ms Waugh it could be a limg running show.
Mayor of Kingstown (2021)
Wow!
Every so often a truly great piece of to comes along and this is among the best. It was top class acting, scripts, music, plot, everything was excellent.
I so hope there's a second series but Jeremy Renner has to be in it I've never seen him better.
Ten Percent (2022)
Terrific!
I haven't watched the French original but I absolutely loved this. I thought the cast made a terrific ensemble and by the end I loved them all !
Funny, poignant and well scripted. Here's hoping for season 2.
Pieces of Her (2022)
Good Story!
I think I watched something different from everyone else because I really enjoyed it.
I liked all the twists and turns and the different characters.
I also liked the flashbacks and piecing it all together.
Really good highly recommend it!
The Unforgivable (2021)
Another powerhouse performance from Sandra Bullock
Powerful movie with a terrific central performance from Sandra Bullock. The rest of the cast are excellent especially Jon Berthnal and Viola Davis.
It's a very slow moving and somewhat sombre movie but therein (for me) lies it's greatness.
I'm away to watch it all over again!
In My Skin (2018)
Welsh Shane Meadow!
You absolutely always know when something is written from the heart and personal experience.
Luckily the cast measured up to the writing which created a truly beautiful piece of television.
Not since This Is England have I felt the way I did watching this. First class television.
Gabrielle Creevy totally consumes the role of Bethan, she is sublime. The rest of the cast thankfully are her equals they are all incredible. Loved it 👏👏👏
The Girl Before (2021)
Intelligent Thriller
I really liked the slow pace of this possibly because of the quality of the acting. I felt totally immersed in it but that took time.
The two main female characters have really good back stories that slowly unfold so it's not just a whodunnit the characters are fully structured and you become invested in them.
Thoroughly enjoyed it 👏
Shrek the Musical (2013)
Love the Ogre but the music is hideous!!
This is a horrible ! The songs are terrible the acting is average the longer it goes on the bigger your headache.
Totally understand why the show was cancelled just wish it had never been suggested in the first place.
I struggle to understand when the songs in the movie were so good.
Avoid at all costs!
Crime (2021)
Vintage Irvine Welsh!
Some of the low scoring reviewers obviously have never seen or read Irvine Welsh's work! This is vintage Welsh not the next tv detective that's why his name is in the title.
Yes there are broken obnoxious vile men, reference Filth & trainspotting, alongside brilliantly strong women. The cast is excellent Dougray Scott has never been better.
There are also some beautifully drawn characters like Ray's Dad along with the side story of Trudi. If you just want a whodunnit watch midsommer murders this ain't generic tv detective it's pure unadulterated genius!
And for those moaning about the Scottish accent...it's set in Edinburgh what exactly did you expect !?!
Wanted: A Simple Life (2021)
Ridiculous
Omg people are moving an hour away and they're all crying at the family and friends segment 😩
Who thought this was watchable!!!
Palmer (2021)
Loved this! (Unexpectedly)
Predictable format and nothing new to see here but it works so well. Totally pulled me in, loved Ryder Allen as Sam, a really remarkable performance. I like JT as an actor but usually find him ok with this I think we are seeing him grow and show some depth.
Good watch would definitely recommend 👍
The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020)
Thank God for Aaron Sorkin!
Great writing great story totally brilliant ensemble cast.
So good to watch a wonderful story which was unknown to me written so well. Set in the 60's but (sadly) could easily be set in 2020.
Very relevant and a great watch.
Trying (2020)
Brilliant!
I loved this so much. It's my kind of show anyway but having been through the adoption process I enjoyed it even more as it was fairly accurate. They two leads (Rafe&Esther) are so amazingly sensitive and empathetic.
It's funny it's emotional it's definitely worth a second watch x
Abominable (2019)
Beautiful Movie 💗
This was such a wonderful film so funny and very emotional.
The characters and story were good with some magical moments thanks to "Everest". My four year old and I both loved it. I think because it wasn't a big Disney princess movie or another sequel we enjoyed it more not knowing the story and discovering it together. I think this one will be watched over and over!
Can't understand any negative comments at all.
Mum (2016)
Beautiful
Just want to say thank you for "Mum" it's been one of the delights of my tv watching life 💖 so so lovely cried and laughed in equal measure (cringed a lot) it's just fab xx
Tallulah (2016)
Loved this!
This film is the reason I love movies! Beautifully written and superb actors bringing interesting characters to life. Ellen Page excels in this probably her best role to date.
MotherFatherSon (2019)
Hooked
I don't understand the bad reviews I was really hooked. I think the acting is superb and a good set up episode.
Let's hope the rest of the series lives up to the good start!
The Good Fight (2017)
Brilliant TV !!
Don't judge this based on the Good Wife it's way way better!
Excellent writing great cast and no Alicia hip hip hooray.
Seven Seconds (2018)
Brilliant!
Despite some of the reviews I still decided to watch this and I'm so so glad I did!
Brilliantly well acted and written, slow at first but then you realise you are totally gripped and can't let go.
Many dramas spend time fully developing one or maybe two main characters but this one fleshes them all out so that you feel you know them all inside out.
Loved this! I'm an obsessive crime drama fan and I can be highly critical but this is first class drama with a top notch cast. I can't single anyone out for praise as they are all on top of their game.
DO NOT MISS THIS
