When a Stranger Calls (1979)
Great Opening, Average Middle Section and Awesome Ending!
I've seen the remake first and it was very boring. Yesterday night I had the chance to watch the original and it was great. The opening was very suspenseful and very "Hitchcock". It was awesome. The, the middle section was so-so, some scenes were there just to fill the movie and when I though this movie was going downhill: from a great opening to an average middle section it came the ending. Excellent ending. It was truly scary. The acting was very good. You can see Carrie's mother in this movie. Well. I don't want to spoil the movie so go watch it yourself and you'll find out what I'm talking about. I suggest you to watch this movie instead of the remake. 9/10
If you liked this movie, I also recommend you: Halloween (1978) and Black Christmas (1974). This movie took a lot from both classics.
Hostel (2005)
Underrated by Horror Classic Fans and Overrated by Modern Horror Fans
I really can't understand the hate on Hostel. Sure Eli Roth is a dumb ass. Sure, Hostel has a bad setup, some crappy acting, some awful dialog and a some unneeded nudity but come on. What about Last House on the Left (Another movie I liked). It has very bad acting, even worse than the acting in Hostel. There's a lot of great horror movies with bad acting. The Evil Dead, anyone? What i'm trying to say is Hostel is not an excellent movie, it's not great and it's not a classic but it's not one of the worst movies ever made. And it's not a "torture porn" flick. Because if Hostel is torture porn then Last House on the Left and Cannibal Holocaust are torture porn too. Hostel is better than any of those awful remakes that came out in this decade. And one one the best American mainstream horror movies of the last 8 years. Yes, I know this is not saying much but...
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
When Fred used to be Darker and Scary
This is the movie that got me into the genre. Wes Craven proves he is a great director and writer by bringing a new icon into the genre. In the early 80's all the slasher were Hallowee or Friday the 13th Rip offs, but Wes Craven brought something new to the table. He added the supernatural element and a lot of bloody creative killings. All the characters are great in this movie. Robert Englund plays a very scary Fred Krueger (When Freddy used to be scary), Heather Langenkamp does a great job as the scream queen of the movie and the rest are great too (Johnny Deep, Nick Corri, Amanda Wyss and John Saxon).
This is when Freddy used to be scary so don't miss this classic!!!
Halloween (2007)
The Devil's Rejects meets Hostel on Halloween
I watched yesterday both movies (original and remake) and that's all I could say: Zombie hates Halloween!!! Zombie changed all the suspense for sex and violence. The dialog was pretty bad, they talked about masturbation, castration, ejaculation, oral sex and rape. What was this???? Halloween meets Hostel????? All the girls in this movie were annoying sluts and I couldn't care about any of here. And I don't blame the actresses, it was Rob's fault. And listen, I don't hate him, I love his music, I really liked The Devil's Rejects and 1000 Corpses.
Here it seems like he wanted to do another movie about his DEVIL'S REJECTS.
Halloween (1978) 10/10 Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007) As a Stand Alone 4/10, As a Remake 1/10
La huella macabra (1963)
Good Vampire Flick
Hey, I guess I'm the only one who watched this movie. It was a horror-comedy to me and one of the best vampire flicks I've ever seen. It made remember a lot to those old Dracula movies with Bela Lugosi. This is not Better than Fright Night, but It's a good movie if you like vampires. A Must-see for every horror fan who thinks gore is not necessary to make a good movie. 8/10 I don't like too much the new Vampire movies. So here are my favorites: Fright Night, From Dusk Till Dawn, Dracula (1931), House of Dracula, Vampires and Yeas Drcula: Dead and Loving It. The acting is not for an Oscar but it was funny to watch it. Well, I'm saying the same time and time again, so go watch it and vote it here.
Timber Falls (2007)
Wrong Turn meets Misery
OK, this story is not so original. You've seen this too many times. I can name Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes, Wrong Turn, Misery and
too many to name. The good thing about this movie is that I actually care about the lead characters. It's not like those movies when you say "Kill them all". The violence is well-done and yes, this is not Torture Porn like The Saw and Hostel sequels. The make-up is fantastic and this movie doesn't have those dumb CGI. Great performances by the lead characters and by the killers too. If you want an enjoyable movie with a lot of tension and violence, you should check this out. You won't repent.
Boogeyman 2 (2007)
What a big Surprise!!!!!!!!!!
When I started watching this movie I expected another crappy PG-13 movie with stupid CGI, like the first Boogeyman. But, this was a surprise to me. This movie was incredibly better than the original. OK, you don't need too much to be better than that horrible movie but I guess this is the only sequel to a bad movie that is actually great. The acting is good, the gore effects are great and Tobin Bell was great. He made me remember Dr. Loomis. So if you want a good gore slasher with a twist in the end, you should check this out. It's like "Halloween II" meets "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3". Forget this is Boogeyman 2. It has nothing to do with the original and that's a great thing!
A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985)
A Nightmare on Gay Street
Oh, no. What the hell is this? I love the original Nightmare on Elm Street, it was scary, with an original plot but this one is
let's star. The good things are: -The music is not the same as the original, but its OK. -The First bus scene is the best beginning in the series. -Freddy Krueger is still bad and scary. He wasn't a clown like in the other sequels. An the bad things are: -The whole homosexual plot. It wasn't necessary at all. -The deaths are not very creative. -Freddy kills a lot of people who's awake. It doesn't live up to the original plot. -Those stupid things about a bird on fire and a lot of worthless things.
This is an enjoyable movie but doesn't deserve to be part of the series. It's more of a homo/comedy/horror movie with a scary Freddy. Ah, and the Fred Makeup looked horrible. And the ending sucks
. I Mean (SPOILERS!!!) it makes no sense, if Jessie has a car and his girlfriend too then why the hell do they take the bus??????
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006)
Good Chainsaw Stuff
I didn't like it the first time I saw it. But I decided to give it another chance. Then, in my second viewing this movie blew me away. It was truly great. Great gore, good acting and a very sad ending. This is not better than the 1974 & 2003 versions, but it's a lot better than the Texas Chainsaw sequels. Leatherface looks really scary and The Sheriff is great. Well, the tittle isn't very good, cause this movie is just like another remake. I mean the beginning takes only 15 minutes. I think this is not really the Leatherface beginning, it's more of the Sheriff Hoyt's beginning. Anyways, I enjoyed and liked this movie. I recommend it to the Texas Chainsaw fans and the ones who like to watch gore movies.
Halloween II (1981)
The best of the Myers Sequels
Great sequel. That's all I can say! Michael Myers looks even more brutal than in the original. Halloween (1978) is my favorite horror movie of all time and it's great to see how they come up with this sequel. The acting is brilliant: Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasant are some of the best actors ever. The score is again composed by John Carpenter. The thing that really made me think a lot is that Rick Rosenthal directed the best and the worst Halloween sequel: Halloween II and Halloween Resurrection. Weird. Maybe Carpenter had a lot to do in this movie.I also liked the other sequels, this is by far the best of all. Period.
10/10
Candyman (1992)
Deserves the tittle of SCARIEST MOVIE EVER
I Remember watching this movie when I was 10 years old, and I remember how this scared me. I couldn't sleep!!! This is the perfect and scariest horror movie to me. Performasnces are great. Virgina Madsen and Tony Todd ARE HELEN and CANDYMAN. The score by Phillip Glass is one of the best horror movies score along with Psycho(1960) and Halloween (1978). The Ending is great, I can't say how I love this movie, so if you want a good scare go rent it, you will not be disappointed, and if you don't like this, then you can abandon this genre cause you won't find something scarier. I also recommend the first sequel Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1995) and Hellraiser (1987). Candyman 3 sucks.
Night of the Living Dead (2006)
House of the Dead 3D
I can't believe it. When I heard there was a 3D remake of the Romero's masterpiece I thought that It was gonna be crap but I didn't know that it was gonna be even worse than House of the Dead. First, I liked the 1990 version. It was OK. But this version is like an Uwe Boll-Ulli Lommell's movie. It's like House of the Dead III. I mean the same crappy acting, no script, no gore, no good dialog, stupid jokes, no ending, wtf! It's an insult to Romero's fans. This is the worst zombie movie ever made. Maybe without the Tittle Night of the Living Dead could be a little better. But anyways it's a piece of garbage. Not even laughable. 0/10
Boogeyman (2005)
Another "Fear of the Dark" Movie
Yes, Boogeyman is just another "Fear of the Dark" movie. Boring with a very stupid ending with some dumb CGI. This movie isn't even funny, I almost fall asleep. The character is scared of EVERYTHING in the movie. The ghost kid subplot is VERY PREDICTABLE. Like I said, this movie is just like Fear of the Dark (2002), Darkness Falls (2003), They (2002) and Sleepstalker (1995). It also features the same opening that "They". Now I wonder what was Sam Raimi doing here?, but I also wonder what was he doing in The Grudge (2004) and the three Spiderman movies? It seems like he wanted the money. This piece of garbage is even gore less. I'm not saying that gore make the movie (For example, Rosemary's Baby (1968) is an excellent horror movie without gore), but bad movie need gore or a little bit of the dark comedy genre to be at least funny. Anyways, avoid this movie at least you liked the other ones I just mentioned. The sequel is coming soon
.
Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1995)
Underrated
I think this movie is really, really underrated. OK, let's star
in the first "Candyman (1992)" you don't know if the killer was the Candyman or Helen and that was pretty great. I love that. In this one, the killer IS CANDYMAN, there isn't another explanation. The story of the man's past was well-done and the gore in this film is fantastic. There's a lot of jumps and suspense. The movie stars with a great opening, then it turns a little slow but, it was alright: In the first one , Candyman appears at the 40 minutes of the movie and, then, in the ending stars the slasher-gore chasing scenes. The acting was very decent, especially Tony Todd of course. He was as creepy as in the original, and Kelly Rowan was OK. Veronica Cartwright was good too, after her great performance almost 20 year before in "Alien (1979)". In every way, this was a good well-done sequel ALMOST as good as the original. It also features the great soundtrack by Phillip Glass. And it was a lot better than the stupid "Candyman: Day of the Dead (1999)" Enjoyable. 9.5/10.
Candyman: Day of the Dead (1999)
Good Gore, Bad Acting
Oh, how can I star? This movie was so awful. I love the first two Candyman movies, they were creepy, scary and they had a plot. In this third installment there is no good acting. Donna D'Enrico should leave her career. I was very sick of hearing her stupid screaming. The only one right in this movie was Tony Todd. Oh, and Tony Todd said in some interview that Candyman 3 was a load of crap. Leaving the awful acting, the stupid ending and almost everything about this movie behind, it was OK. Imean, I liked the gore and the performance by Tony Todd. God, they even missed the excellent soundtrack by Phillip Glass. Bad, bah, bad sequel. I know it was inevitable, but now they should make a Candyman 4 to end the story, cause it's a shame that THIS CRAP was the end of the series. But, what can I say? What's the end of the series in Halloween, Hellraiser and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? They have been remade cause those series had no salvation. Look at Halloween: Resuurrection, Hellraiser: Hellworl and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. If you want a creepy, scary well-done movie, just watch the original Candyamn, and then if you liked it, go watch Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh, but stop right there. Candyman 3 is a big mess: 3/10
Nekromantik (1988)
The perfect movie for the SICK people
This movies has been made for sick people. A lot of gore, OK! but those pointless scenes. The ending is the worst ending ever! Who wants to see some masturbation-suicide scene? Crappy movie, that's all i got to say. unnecessary animal killings. This is by far the worst movie I've ever seen. I didn't like Cannibal Holocaust and Ferox because of the animal killings. But those movies was way better than this one.
So i say if you are someone who like gore and nudity go see Hostel or one of the Fulci movies, at least they make more sense than this piece of garbage. Do not watch this. A MUST NOT SEEN! 0/10
