Split (2016)
Ending Specialist is Back!!!
The story of a man who has 23 different personalities and the only person he actually trust is his therapist Dr.Fletcher. One day, one of his personalities kidnaps three girls and locked them in a windowless room. Anya Taylor portraits the role of Casey superbly, unfortunately the one who steals the show was James McAvoy for his career defining performance as Kevin. His speech tone and body language were completely different for each personality. Speaking of M. Night Shyamalan movie, He has a style of ending the movie with a surprise and this time he literally got me. Overall, it's a smart movie that can easily thrills you and highly recommended to everyone.
Revanche (2008)
Revenge!!!
Both Alex and Tamara work in a Vienna brothel, while they carry on a secret relationship. To improve their life and pay off Tamara's debts, Alex decides to rob a bank and things get out of control when a policeman shows up on his getaway. It's a drama movie that creates tensions and the revenge story was told in a different suspenseful way. More than a revenge story, it actually deals with humans emotional behavior and how they approach to a serious situation. The story is unpredictable and most of the things that happened in it looks real to me. Overall, I like this movie and To be frank, it's not everyone's cup of tea.
True Romance (1993)
A Fascinating Story!!!
Clarence, a loner fall in love with a call girl named Alabama. Later, they get married and Alabama told Clarence about her pimp. Next day, Clarence decides to meet Alabama's pimp and What happens in that meeting makes the movie interesting. It's a love story that told in a different way. The movie was written by Quentin Tarantino and his partnership with the director, Tony Scott actually works out. The story by Tarantino was fascinating and Scott makes it a fast paced movie with witty dialogues and sometimes bullets tells the rest. Overall, it's a romantic thriller that actually works as a crime thriller movie.
Shin Gojira (2016)
A Onetime Watchable Movie!!!
A normal day in Japan turns into a disaster one when a Godzilla arrives on the shore. Within no time Godzilla starts to tear up the city. The Japanese Politicians has to act quickly in order to stop it from tearing the whole country. Shin Godzilla is the 29th Godzilla film produced by Japan's Toho Studios and the 32nd worldwide. The film mainly concentrates on strategies of politicians to solve the situation. Director's Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi makes the movie more political than an apocalyptic event. Anno's screenplay also shows the loopholes of the Japanese government to follow protocol even when an unimaginable event has occurred. The film's score by Shiro Sagisu was very impressive. Overall, it's a watchable monster movie and enjoyable if you are not expecting much from it.
The Great Father (2017)
A Stylish Family Oriented thriller Movie!!!
David Ninan is a builder who leads a wonderful life with his wife and daughter. Due to an unfortunate incident, Their peaceful life takes a drastic turn and How they recover from it makes the movie drives forward. Mammoka owns each scene with his spectacular acting in emotional scenes and also mass scenes. Haneef Adeni handles the story superbly and one scene actually scares the hell out of me. The first half of the movie was very good and the second half started slowly, kind of dragging too. The pace was regained after that and the ending was also convincing even though there were some loopholes. Arya was good and it would have been a better one for him if he dubs for himself. Sneha has nothing much to offer in the movie. The background score used for Arya and Mammoka's intro was likable and my favorite one is Arya's background score. Overall, it's a stunning action thriller movie and I really enjoyed it.
RangiTaranga (2015)
A Mysterious Ride!!!
Journalist Sandhya is on a mission to find out an anonymous novelist named Anashku. Meanwhile, Gautam who writes under the name Anashku takes his wife Indu to visit Kamarottu. The journey gets complicated when they start to experience some unnatural occurrences. Anup's storytelling style was really impressive and he has brought back some art forms like Bhootaradhane and Yakshagana into play which was kind of haunting too. The story is enough to keep you occupied throughout the movie and the background score, cinematography also plays vital roles in the movie. Overall, It's an engaging, mysterious thriller movie and a must watch.
San taam (2007)
Mind Game!!!
Inspector Bun has a weird style of solving crimes and he has the ability to read inner personalities of people. Due to this behavior, he gets fired from the force. One day, Inspector Ho approaches Bun to help him in an ongoing case about a missing police officer. It's a movie that plays with your mind and force you to keep guessing throughout the movie. Ching Wan Lau plays the weird Bun character and brings all the emotions that the character demands. The concept of the movie was very simple and a thorough characterizations helps to an ending that is definitely worth the wait. Overall, it's a highly recommended for those who are looking for a serious crime thriller movie.
La hora cero (2010)
Breaks all previous Venezuelan box office records!!!
The story takes place during a medical strike when doctors hesitated to look at the patients. This film tells the story of a Hit-man, La Parca who is forced to create a hostage situation in a hospital to save his girlfriend. This film reminds me of Denzel's John Q and Hostage situation looks like Dog Day Afternoon. Violence is common in Caracas and during the filming, three crew members were kidnapped. Diego, the director of the film was held up at gun point and a supporting actor was assassinated. Anyway, all this issue helps the movie in a positive way and it breaks all previous Venezuelan box office records. Overall, it's a watchable movie and only recommended to those who can handle violence scenes.
The Great Wall (2016)
Clean Entertainer!!!
Two mercenaries William and Tovar are looking for a mysterious item known as 'Black Powder'. Unfortunately, they were captured by the army of the Great Wall for trespassing. The weird thing about the Great Wall is that every 60 years, the wall is attacked by some monsters known as Tao Tei. The opening scenes and fight sequences were the best thing about the movie. The story was not very impressive and the only thing that keeps it alive is the action scenes. Like, Jason Bourne 2016 movie this one also has nothing much to offer Matt Damon in the acting department apart from some stunts. The monsters logic of attacking and the cinematography were really good to see. Overall, Yimou manages to deliver a watchable action fantasy movie.
Kóblic (2016)
A well crafted thriller drama!!!
Captain Tomas Koblic is a Navy pilot who runs away from an air force before his retirement. Now, With the help of a friend Koblic hides in a small town. The sheriff of that town was not very fond of Koblic and starts to investigate about his past. The script looks interesting, but it takes time to establish the main reason behind all this. Darin is one of the finest actors of the Argentine film industry who can handle any type of roles and Koblic's character was safe in his hands. The casting plays a key role in the movie and on the technical side, it has an efficient art direction. Overall, it's a well crafted thriller drama and I really enjoyed it.
Kong: Skull Island (2017)
Watchable only because of King Kong!!!
With the help of soldiers, a group of scientists goes on a mission to visit an Island in Southeast Asia. After reaching the Island they start to drop bombs, until someone shows up to fight. This is the second film in the series of monster movies that starts with Godzilla 2014 which is far better than this movie. The failed attempt of character development was the main problem that faces the whole story. The technical team did an excellent job and the actors are all talented. Now comes the King Kong factor which is the only thing that is worth watchable. The intro action scenes and the ending scenes were outstanding. The night scenes look ridiculous in 3D. The Academy award winner Brie Larson is assigned to take pictures in the movie and apart from one stunt scene there is nothing much to do for her. The only reason why she signed this movie is the popularity of King Kong movies, Other than that, I don't know why she acts in this movie. Samuel L Jackson's eye to eye contact with King Kong was unbearable to watch. Overall, it's watchable only because of King Kong and that's the only thing that keeps the movie alive.
The Hole (2009)
Watchable in relaxation time!!!
Siblings Dane and lucas lives with their mom, Susan and they just moved to a new neighborhood. The only thing that matters to Dane is the beautiful girl next door, Julie. Susan spends most of her time in office. Everything was going well until Dane and Lucas finds a black hole in their basement. Technically, the film can be watchable without getting bored and Joe Dante actually reminds me of old style film making. It's a simple movie that can be watchable in relaxation time. The effort was made to make a nice engaging horror movie, unfortunately it doesn't particularly deliver. Overall, it's a one time watchable flick.
One Day (2011)
A slow paced romantic movie!!!
The film tells the story of Emma and Dexter over the course of their 20 year relationship. They meet on the evening of their college graduation in 1988. Both have different dreams and they made a pact to meet on the same day each year. The acting was much better than story, moreover, it was convincing. The chemistry between Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess was the only thing I liked about the film. Apart from that it's a slow paced movie and the final act didn't make much impact on the story. The film has some good romantic and emotional scenes, unfortunately some were really dragged out. Overall, it's a one time watchable flick and full credits goes to the acting.
Jolly LLB 2 (2017)
A clean court room drama!!!
Jolly is a small time lawyer who practices in the Lucknow high court has only one dream to own a chamber for himself. For that jolly needs money and he cons an innocent girl by telling lies that his boss will take her case. When she realizes he is a fraud, she reacts differently. The court room scenes were outstanding and it also includes some comic sequences which makes it more beautiful. The film deals with the case of mistaken identity of a terrorist. Akshay kumar, who can play any time of roles once again shows his acting skills in Jolly. Both Annu Kapoor and Saurabh Shukla were likable in their own roles. Huma's character was grounded and nothing much to offer in the plot. Subhash Kapoor nicely handles the second half with engaging courtroom scenes and at the same time it will also entertain you. Overall, it's a watchable courtroom movie and it won't disappoints you in any manner.
Joeun nom, napun nom, esanghan nom (2008)
Inspired from "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly"!!!
The film tells the story of a treasure map that can easily change the lifestyle of the one who holds it. A bandit leader hires "The Bad" Park Chang to steal the treasure map from a Japanese Banker who is traveling in a train. Accidentally "The Weird" Tae-goo steals it first. "The Good" Park-Do-wan, a bounty hunter was also in the train who was hired by a Korean officer. The film is slightly inspired from "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and Kim Jee-woon presented it in a fun adventurous mode. The Weird character played by Song Kang was the center of attraction and the actors did their own stunts, which was quite impressive. It's a visual treat with bullets flying all over the place and the soundtrack by Chan Young-gyu makes it more exciting. Overall, It's a full on entertainer and I really enjoyed it.
The Killer Inside Me (2010)
Adaptation of the 1952 novel of the same name by Jim Thompson!!!
Lou Ford is a deputy sheriff in a small West Texas town and he was sent to investigate a girl named Joyce. He winds up in a sexual relationship with Joyce even though he is engaged to a local girl named Amy. Lou and Joyce decide to kill Joyce's boyfriend, a powerful citizen. Apart from this plan Lou has some different ideas in his mind. The film tells the story of a serial killer and also contains some controversial scenes of violence against women. Affleck's performance as Lou Ford was quite interesting, at the same time he nicely handles the mental and physical behavior of Lou. Even though Jessica and Kate Hudson shares few intimate scenes with Affleck, Both succeed in fascinating the viewers. Overall, the film has some violent scenes and only recommended to those who can handle it.
W ciemnosci (2011)
Underground Drama based on true events!!!
The film tells the story of Leopold Socha, who helped Jews during the Nazi occupation of Lvov, a city in Poland. Socha is a sewer worker and one day he encounters a group of Jews trying to escape through the underground. He decides to hide them in exchange for money. It's a powerful story and center of attraction goes to Robert Wieckiewicz's character Socha. It's always hard to execute Holocaust movies and this film offers a new equation to the Holocaust films. It was Poland's entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign language film, but lost to 'A Separation'. Overall, it's a powerful film with most of the sequences shot in dark atmosphere and At the same time it's horrifying and intense too.
Seven Pounds (2008)
Another emotional ride from Will Smith!!!
Ben Thomas is the only sole survivor of a fatal car accident that killed his fiancée and six others. Ben is an IRS officer and the whole car crash changes him completely. He decides to track down seven individuals in order to help them in an extremely personal way. This is the second time director Gabriele Muccino team up with Will Smith and It's also an emotional ride like "The Pursuit of Happiness". The story of the movie is very unique and Will Smith once again proves that he is very good in emotional type roles. Also Rosario Dawson handles the role of Emily beautifully. The story of the movie was a little confusing in the first few minutes and it takes time to settle down. Overall, it's a suspense filled drama that can easily capture your attention from the moment it starts.
Kokuhaku (2010)
Revenge at it's best!!!
Moriguchi is a school teacher, whose four year old daughter is found dead in the school's swimming pool. As a result, she decides to quit her job. As a Farewell speech, she begins with the importance of life and Later reveals that her child's death was not an accident. She knows the students behind this murder, who are in fact from her own class. The performances were all top notch, especially from Matsu and the kids. It's a dark revenge story that actually works because of its narrative style and It can easily keep the viewers on the edge of their seat. The plot was very impressive and the soundtrack also plays an important role in this flick. The film is quite stunning in every aspects and the overall effect of the movie was awesome.
Toni Erdmann (2016)
Interesting Party!!!
A young professional German woman, Inès who works in a multi-national company has to survive a weekend, when her father Winfried comes to visit for the weekend. Winfried is a practical joker who wears false teeth and speaks in funny accents. After a couple of days Winfried starts to show everywhere Inès goes and also ruining her job. It's a performance oriented movie. Both Simonischek and Hüller's performance was equally remarkable and their chemistry also helps the movie in a good way. There is a birthday party in the film towards the end and this is the first time am watching a party like this. This is one of those films in which the punch line is always delayed and offbeat comedy unfolds over a long time. Adé's film never loses its touch and shows the way how parental love can overcome any difficult situation. Overall, it's a must watch for drama movie lovers.
May (2002)
Awful!!!
From childhood onwards May has a lazy eye which causes the other kids to avoid her completely. May has a doll which she considered as her best friend. She has a love interest in Adam, a mechanic and her co- worker Polly has an interest in May. May starts to lose her patience when she lost both Adam and Polly's love. Angela portraits the role of May in a way that we will feel bad for her at the same time we will hate that character. The film starts out a little slow but May will get into your head faster than you wish. Overall, it's a waste of time.
The Perfect Host (2010)
The Host was not good!!!
After robbing a bank, John made a clean getaway, still cops find out his identity and details about the car he ends up driving. Later, he finds a home to hide and also manages to con his way into the residence of Warwick. It's a dark comedy with many plot twists. Tomnay crafts a psychological cat and mouse game which will keep you guessing throughout. The film mainly focuses on two characters and performance by the lead actors were OK. Tomnay skillfully shifts the thrilling suspense to dark comedy was ridiculous to handle.
Le tout nouveau testament (2015)
A dark fantasy comedy!!!
God lives in an apartment in Belgium with his wife and his 10-year-old daughter Ea. God spends most of his time in ruining people's life by making weird rules. His daughter has also power and she wants to create a brand new testament. Ea sneaks inside Gods locked office and sends text messages to everyone in the world informing their scheduled dates of death. It's a film that has full of imagination and also has a dark comedy side. The concept of the movie was catchy and visually it's a wonderful film. Van Dormael does not lack the skill to pull of beautiful moments from this fantasy movie. Cinematographer, Christophe Beaucarne captures the craziness of God character superbly. Overall, I highly recommend this film to anyone who likes fantasy movies.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016)
One time watchable flick!!!
Jack Reacher, a former military policeman travels to Virginia in order to pay a visit to his old friend Turner. Jack finds out that Turner has been relieved of her command and charged with espionage. Jack started to investigate about the whole incident in his way. It's an entertaining movie and in that sense it actually works. The fight sequences were good and the plot was very easy to predict. Like every Tom Cruise action flicks, this one also has some running scenes and Cruise is very good at running. It could've been a better movie and sadly it was a normal action flick from Cruise. Cobie Smulders was very impressive in her role. Overall, it's a one time watchable flick.
Taegukgi hwinallimyeo (2004)
Must watch!!!
The film tells the story of two brothers whose normal life changes when a war breaks out. Lee Jin-Tae is the older brother who runs a shoeshine stand in order to make money for his brother's education. Due to the sudden war between North Korea and South Korea, the two brothers were forcibly dragged into the battlefield. Visually, it's a wonderful war movie. This film has too many characters like all other war movies and it's hard to figure out who is fighting during the war sequences. The two lead actors were excellent in their roles and Like any other Korean movie, the emotional scenes were right on the money. Anyway, the film has high standards of an epic war film and slightly inspired from 'Saving Private Ryan'. Overall, it's a solid movie from the beginning to end and it's a must watch.
