The Gallant Hours (1960)
Excellent Portrayal of a Popular Hero
I can't get enough of this film, even though some would consider it boring for lack of action scenes. Quite frankly in a biopic such as this Any battle action would distract the viewer.
Mrs. Miniver (1942)
The Resolve of a FREE PEOPLE
There is not a single Force that is greater then a free people filled with a tremendous resolve. Part of that line is borrowed from Admiral Yamamoto but it holds very true here.
There is not much more that can be said about the quality of the film, Mrs. Miniver. It is outstanding, it has always been outstanding and will remain any animals a movie history one of the greatest films ever made.
Today, we must look at it as a telling of a period of History which we must never forget, and how this terrible event, the Second World War, touch the lives of every freedom-loving person on this Earth. Considering that it is now 80 years since the start of the second World War most people living today have not known anything personal about it. This film shows the human affect of that war. We study the war today to understand the great battles the great Commanders and the soldiers who fought it, but we need to remember what the stakes were, and why it was fought, dare we make the same mistake again. How did the Allied Forces not been successful in defeating the powers of the axis, the world would be a much different place today then what we have.
Both prime minister Churchill and President Roosevelt refer to mrs. Miniver as one of the greatest weapons the Allies possessed. It motivated the people to stand with a firm resolve against their enemy. Watch it and understand.
2010: Moby Dick (2010)
White Whales or Pink Elephants
I am just glad that Herman Melville is not alive to see what they have done to his immortal tale of Ahab and his White Whale. I thought the film went over the top when they were using names like Ahab and Moby Dick, but when they added the character names of Starbuck, Queg Qheg, what really got me was the name of the submarine, U.S. S. Pequod, now that is just a little much. I am just glad that Herman Melville has been dead for over 100 years or he may come back from the grave and let us know what he thinks. At least they didn't have a character named Ishmael.
Still, as bad as that is, I find the film compelling, maybe that's because I have such a craving for a stupid horror film. It's worth a watch if you don't expect too much from the film.
