Kalahari (2024)
Not as bad as the bad reviews say.
It always amazes me how many reviewers are so anti Christian, or anti Jesus or anti faith? Any mention of faith in a movie and they go off the rails and believe the movie is about fantasy and goofy religion nonsense to them so they rate it badly because they don't know God or have any faith in anything beyond themselves. Try telling anyone in a foxhole during a fierce battle not to pray. This is a well done film, it has its quirks and some of the characters could have made far better choices but that is life sometimes. This is a tragic story of a couple of missionaries who are forced to take a questionable pilot's airplane to get away from a warlord who wants to kill them (similar to what is going on right now in certain parts of Africa) the plane is not well maintained and crashes in an area of Africa that is a big game reserve, which means lions, jackals and other predatory animals as well as some bad locals. So begins the survival as every night the lions come to take them away one by one as they try to make it to a distant village, and the bad locals want to kill them. A bit of a redemption story for the bad pilot and a real test of faith in God's grace for another. An enjoyable watch with lots of suspense, no graphic gore but a lot is implied. No nudity or foul language some violence. Would see this again. Gives thoughts of the old movie flight of the Phoenix with James Stewart. Enjoy.
Project Almanac (2015)
Could have been so much better.
Gave it a eight for great plot and effects, but the characters in this are so childish and annoying, had to move past a lot of the goofy teenage nonsense especially from so called MIT types who act like nervous children not using a lot of common sense or any kind of safety precautions, especially dealing with time travel and it's obvious ramifications if used flippantly. One thing they seemed to not take into consideration is the butterfly effect and messing around in the past has serious repercussions. Some exciting suspenseful spots. Other than that it's a fun ride, no nudity or questionable content, or foul language. Could have been a lot better with better camera angles and less bumping around like a drunken party. Quantum mechanics and some quantum physics get a bit out of hand and meeting yourself can be disastrous. A good addition to the time travel genre. Enjoy.
Room 0 (2024)
Unique take on the Groundhog Day idea
Time looping, it is a dangerous thing to be stuck in one especially if you aren't aware you are. This young girl who is tasked with the job to deliver a mysterious black box to a gangster gets trapped in a motel room after she inadvertently drops the box and sets off the loop effect. She does not realize this quite possibly for months till a scientist calls her ( not sure how he knew how to get a hold of her...but) and coaches her on how to control the loops and even increase their time before starting over. An interesting ride as she does kind of what bill Murray did by getting much better at certain skills that will assist her in breaking the loop, if she even can. One thing seems to be the case though, she never does seem to break the loop but has learned to just not reset it and live in it for the rest of her life, as long as she doesn't reset it. Not a lot of action and is basically all done in one room, action is implied and so is violence but nothing shown. Nothing questionable, no nudity, lots of foul language. For the very very low budget ( I think only about 7000.00 dollars was spent) they did an excellent job telling the story and making sense of it all. A fun watch. Not what you'd expect. Enjoy!
Iké Boys (2021)
An anime prophecy that comes true.
A struggling anime movie maker in Japan creates a very controversial anime movie that has a prophecy in it for a particular date. Two guys and one Japanese exchange student who is obsessed with native Americans watch this lost movie that one of them was able to buy off the internet and as they are watching, it suddenly just ends, then the magic of this movie starts, they become the finish of the movie by saving the world from the release of the "old gods" as the actual anime characters from this movie. The effects are really corny and only an avid anime watcher may truly enjoy this. It's not terrible, but it could have been way better. The effects are very low and seem like they were made in someone's garage. Nothing questionable, no nudity, or foul language. An "OK" watch, and it is geared for anime kids. So don't rate it as an adult person movie. Actually was a fun watch too. Enjoy!
Get Fast (2024)
Fun action flick.
Not the best of movies but still a lot of fun, plays like a video game mostly with canned characters all after a couple bags of money. Lots of action, gunplay, several groups of bad guys all against each other and all about the cash. Some good humor , nothing questionable, no nudity or foul language, a great movie to pass the time if you can't think of something else to see. The ice cream truck driver is great in this and totally believable as he copes with his stress by saying jellybean over and over as he musters the courage to make it through. Ok for the kiddos if you don't mind some violence and a little blood.
Identity (2003)
Quite a thriller. Totally keeps you guessing.
During a heavy rain storm a motley group of 9 travelers get stranded in a run down hotel with a very questionable manager and then things get strange as they systematically get killed off in consecutive order by the rooms they stay in starting with 10. John Cusack plays a retired cop turned limo driver for an actress who's no longer a star and accidentally hits a woman while her husband and son are fixing a damaged tire. All of them along with a hooker, a couple of very young newlyweds and another cop and his prisoner get stranded in this motel as things go very very strange. Reminds me of a very good twilight zone episode. Lots of twists in this one. You won't know what reality is until the very end. Well done suspenseful thriller, lots of blood, gore and some truly scary parts. Nothing questionable, no nudity or foul language. A good watch. May have to see it a few times to really break it down. Enjoy!
Faster (2010)
One of the Rock's darker roles.
Love Dwayne Johnson in most anything he does, and this movie is no exception. He plays the "Driver" who is also considered a "ghost" since he survived a head shot from a botched execution. After getting out of a ten year prison sentence for a robbery gone bad that he was set up in, he's out and dead set on vengeance to this group who killed his brother and also shot him in the head. Tommy Lee Jones plays a down on his luck detective on his last 10 days to retirement and as a last case, trying to run the driver down as driver kills everyone on his list that was at the set up. One of them turned preacher and truly repented of his ways and is a highlight in this film as the driver confronts him in a most astonishing turn of events. A hired killer is also after the driver and is mostly just in his way. A huge twist in this movie that you won't see coming at the end. Well done! Nothing questionable, no nudity. Some foul language. Lots non stop action. Keeps moving well. Enjoy!!
Camera (2024)
Amazing story. Heartfelt and wonderful
Nothing questionable here, no nudity or any foul language, just a wonderful story of a young boy (Miguel Gabriel) who is Oscar who has an "eye" for photography. He is mute from a hospital accident at birth but other than that he can communicate quite well especially with his eyes. It takes a great talent to portray emotion with just your eyes and no sounds and he does it like it was truly how he is in real life. He must deal with new surroundings in this picturesque fishing village with a plethora of unique characters all around him for his "canvas" . He must deal with some bullies, and one bad uncle who is also a drug dealer. After a close call with the bullies, Oscar hides in an old fix it shop run by Beau Bridges and soon the magic begins as Bridges teaches the young boy all about photography and how to develop it and enlarge it. What happens next is truly amazing as this young mute causes the whole town to understand themselves in a new and unique way as well as bring everyone together after the town suffers a financial loss. Get some tissue and be prepared for a wonderful family story for everyone especially kids and those who love photography. Enjoy!'
Latency (2024)
Nice beginning but then gets really strange.
Loved the concept of a headset ( I'm sure one of these is in development somewhere right now) that allows one to interact with video games with your mind rather than use a controller, like if you play doom you would attack things you see by thinking about it and choosing the weapons by using your thoughts. Pretty awesome to say the least. It would truly change competition gaming to a very high level unheard of in our lifetimes. But this movie goes a bit off the rails as the agoraphobic young girl does a video game competition for a lot of money and her friend bets on her winning to get even more , but her haunting visions take her over and her also dead agoraphobic mother begins to use her and do unspeakable things. She basically turns into a nightmare of a person. Not for the squeamish, some gore, a few really scary bits. I just wish they took it in a more positive direction instead of just another horror movie. Nothing questionable, no nudity or foul language. Not for the kiddos. Enjoy.
Black Lotus (2023)
A very believable action movie
The action in this movie is way way over the top. A giant of a soldier (Rico Verhoeven) comes back from a long break after his best friend is killed by a group of terrorists at a concert to visit his late friends wife and daughter and the new step dad (Peter Franzen) who has been secretly stealing from a very bad group of criminals. Frank Grillo plays the lead henchman and he as usual does a great job. Frank (Saban) finds out that this step dad has embezzled several millions of euros from him and he wants it back immediately or certain things will happen to this man's new family and he decides to kidnap their little girl for starters. Our giant soldier ( who is very impressive in his well toned physique) systematically takes on all of them as he takes a LOT of damage himself in the process which makes this very believable and not like other action flicks where the good guy never gets a scratch, our guy gets stabbed a few times, beat pretty badly among other damage and still keeps moving on, reminds me of that Eveready battery rabbit. A fun watch. Nothing questionable, no full nudity. The girl cop Shira is a knockout (Rona Lee Shimon) also and has enough of her own moves that make her a force to be reckoned with. Some foul language in key spots that isn't over the top. A lot of violence and some gore. But not enough to make one squeamish. The fight scenes are excellent. Enjoy!
Classified (2024)
Not a bad action flick, a bit slow but delivers
Not your typical action movie, but it has a unique plot dynamic that I've not seen in a long while. We have our hitman who gets his marks from a certain newspaper article that he deciphers to get his instructions. After he completes the hit, he gets another mark the same way. This goes on pretty much forever for this guy until a young girl shows up and says that the agency he's been doing all these hits from doesn't exist and some unknown rogue operator is pulling the strings now. It takes a bit of convincing to prove her story and then things spiral out of control as everyone is trying to eliminate him and the girl. Fight scenes are a bit predictable and not well choreographed as the expert bad guys seem to miss a bit too much and the good guys seem to never miss. Then there is the mysterious GPS tracking of our hitman that never seems to be explained or why he has it, which is a bit unnerving since he seems to be oblivious of it. A bit slow and most the action is at the end but not a total waste. If they explained the GPS, and choreographed the fight scenes more believable then it would have gotten a far higher score. Enjoy!
The Killer's Game (2024)
Fun John wick style movie.
Good to see Dave Bautista in something other than "Drax" (guardians of the galaxy) he's quite a talented actor and is perfect for the hit man/ assassin roles. He's got that "look", then you have Sofia Boutella who is stunningly beautiful and incredibly sexy ( the mummy 4) as his fiancé and wife. Then you have Ben Kingsley as the "Rabbi" handler who is just as awesome. This plays out like a Wick movie with all the "canned" hit man/hit women names and tags, reminds me of the old Batman tv show with the "whams" and "oofs" . Lots and lots of graphic action, violence, gore, blood, and excellent choreography in the fight scenes. Keeps moving fast enough to not lose interest. Nothing questionable, some foul language, some brief nudity, nothing shown. A fun watch, would see again for sure. Sets up for a sequel also if they want to retain the characters.enjoy!
9 Windows (2024)
Remember "The Net" with Sandra bullock
Not a blockbuster movie, but well done none the less. Reminds me a lot of "The Net" where a crazed serial killer puts up videos of who he's going to kill and has them killed by the online viewers who happen to watch. This story is a sad story of a young very smart detective minded girl who gets partially paralyzed by a car accident that also kills both her parents. She is in an awesome smart home with a 9 window computer monitor (reminds me of the one from swordfish) and because of her pain and anger takes out her aggression against random people on vlogs until one video appears showing the brutal murder of a dog. After this the movie moves to more graphic levels as this vlogger begins to murder people. Using her smarts she attempts to solve the crimes with the help of two retired officers, a fun watch that is very believable and redeeming for the girl. No nudity or questionable content, some graphic gore and violence, so not for the kiddos. Enjoy.
Die Alone (2024)
A totally different take on the zombie undead genre'
Not what you would expect. Seems that nature decided to wipe out humanity by integrating them into plants. Kind of weird, but when you see the undead plant creatures they are very unique. We are introduced to a young couple who are involved in a single car accident at the beginning and then a desperate search for the young girl who goes missing right after the crash. What happens next is a bizarre series of events touching on time and a fountain of youth in a weird way. Lots of gore, cannibalism, violence, no nudity, some foul language, nothing questionable, but a very interesting story that will blow you away with the major twist at the end. A unique watch. Not for the squeamish at all. A bit too gory. So no young kiddos. Otherwise enjoy!
Dominique (2024)
The female equalizer.
This reminded me a lot of Denzel Washington's equalizer character and how he gets involved in situations that he just happens to witness and takes care of it. The same happens here. We are introduced to "Dominique" in a crashed aircraft with a mysterious crate all chained up. What happens next is next to awesome as she systematically takes out most everyone in her way to attempt to protect a family from a totally corrupt police department and a very powerful cartel, the action is awesome as well as the choreography fight scenes and gun play. Lots of violence, gore, some sexual situations and brief nudity, some foul language, may be a bit too intense for the squeamish, definitely not for young kiddos. Will see again and hopefully there will be many sequels, she makes for a possible female John wick. Nothing questionable, lots of action. You'll love what's inside the crate. Enjoy!
Alien: Romulus (2024)
Brings back a bit of alien 2
If you enjoyed sigourney weaver in alien 2 as she goes about hunting the alien queen, you'll love this entree' as the same scenes are integrated into this helping as the alien from the very first alien movie has been retrieved from deep space for experimentation which went very wrong (as usual when you mess with one of these). A rag tag young crew of teenagers attempt to escape their "slavery" to the corporate moguls by commandeering a ship and going to the supposed abandoned space station caught in orbit recently and they believe that if they can get the cryo chambers they can escape to a fabled paradise planet. Things go horribly wrong as they board this station and the "artificial person" from the first alien movie is hell bent on completing the mission. Lots of great action, a lot of stupidity by one of the teenagers who is just an idiot. All around suspense fun, gore, lots of crawly hopping aliens and of course a great music score. Worth the watch and fits in very logically with the alien timeline and franchise. Much better than alien 3 which made no sense whatsoever. Nothing questionable, no nudity , some foul language and a lot of violence and gore. Enjoy!
God's Not Dead: In God We Trust (2024)
Great positive movie.
Reagan was right in the opening comments in this movie. We are all on the brink of losing all our God given freedoms that our forefathers fought for and for what? Possibly the end of this nation altogether? It's sad that so many hate God, Jesus and His free gift of eternal life so readily to embrace a lie. Those are the bad reviewers. These are the ones we all should be praying for. They are the lost. Very soon the rapture will happen which will leave a great many left behind who will know then what they scoffed about and how much they would wish they were not so adamant about the wrong things and what they are about to face will be far worse than they could ever imagine. We home schooled our kids through high school and are currently home schooling our grandkids. You have the rights in certain states, be sure you live in those that allow you your constitutional rights. Nothing questionable, no nudity, or foul language. A great story of faith and trust in Jesus. Hopefully people will see this rather than Scoff. So sad to see a great nation in decline. If you lose your freedom you'll never see it again.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)
Same craziness as the first one.
All the characters are grown up from the first one and have returned to the same house on the hill where it all started as beatlejuices' ex is in search mode for her revenge and sucking the souls out of everyone in her path. Things get interesting when the daughter accidentally comes across a boy who likes her who isn't as he seems. Several plots converge in this helping with Michael Keaton crazily ramping things up to get what he wants while also solving the problem of this highly dysfunctional family of weirdos. Lots of the usual gags and quips, a bit gross in parts. Nothing questionable, no nudity or foul language. An "OK" second helping. Could have been better but not as bad as the low reviews say. Enjoy.
Gods of the Deep (2023)
Remember the original voyage to the bottom of the sea?
This movie has all the potential to be a really great film, but falls way short when it comes across a big guy in a goofy creature suit like Irwin Allen did in voyage to the bottom of the sea with his weird underwater giant boogeymen. Lots of non realistic scenes, like the ship leaking at 37000 feet? It would have popped like a balloon as soon as it got a leak, not a full room of water. Then you don't smoke cigarettes on a submarine, especially when you have enriched oxygen to breathe. Then a guy goes out in a little ship made of plexiglass and goes outside the main ship through a pressure door, his little ship should have exploded the second he was let outside? Just plain goofy. Reminds me a lot of the original lost in space too except underwater. Nothing questionable, no nudity and a little thrashing about. Watch at your own peril.
Meet Joe Black (1998)
A fine take on the classic movie "Death takes a Holiday"
This version of "Death takes a Holiday" was excellent, The brat "Brad Pitt" plays "Joe Black" who is actually the death angel who took over the recently killed boy that Susan Parrish (Claire Forlani) met at a Café house briefly and found compelling enough to possibly fall in love with, but they both leave the café and Brad Pitts character dies immediately via two cars hitting him, which Susan Parrish doesn't know. The rest is quite fascinating as "Death" (Joe Black) using the boy from the Cafe's body comes to take Sarah Parrish's Dad home to heaven (William Parrish, Anthony Hopkins) and the unique change in personality that the Café boy takes on while Sarah Parrish thinks he's attempting to stalk her. Nothing questionable, but one erotic sexual scene is portrayed, but nothing shown. This movie does play on the fallacy that by being a good person more so than a bad person gets one into heaven, and all evil people go to hell. Which is the only thing wrong with this script. (No one gets into heaven by being good, only through Jesus, John 14:6 and anyone who believes in Jesus no matter how wicked can get forgiveness in Jesus and go to heaven, being just good won't cut it.) A fun fantasy story otherwise and quite well acted especially by Anthony Hopkins. A really nice "feel good" movie, that is all.
Art of Eight Limbs (2024)
Just like the old Bruce Lee Flicks
The bad reviewers are reviewing this like a Hollywood blockbuster, forget that. This is definitely a "B" Movie and very similar to any of the old Bruce Lee karate films of the early 1970's. Plot here is far better than those others, Great choreography fight scenes, Excellent actors. Ludi Lin plays the main and his stunt skills are great, He would do well in many other movies that deal with fights, karate, and kick boxing. Grace Vorananth is quite the catch and a great fighter as well as gorgeous! Nothing Questionable, no nudity, Lots of fight violence and killing. A fun watch, and the kiddos could see this too. Enjoy!
Amber Alert (2024)
Well done very believable thriller.
Think of yourself driving along with your uber driver to go to your destination and then you get the amber alert on your phone stating that a little girl was abducted in a black Camry. You look to your right and you are near a car that matches the description perfectly, but you have no license plate number, do you follow it? Or just go about your day? What these two strangers do next is just awesome , they put aside all their trivial plans and do what is right to find out if this is the culprit or not, very believable story and the way they go about it is quite creative. Nothing questionable, no nudity or extreme violence. Lots of suspense. All the actors are perfect for their parts also. Enjoy!
Hidden (2015)
Different take on the undead genre.
Hidden is a unique film that starts you out in a large underground bunker built under a school, most likely for tornadoes, but is now the residence of a family fleeing a strange quarantine in their town in which the government wiped out the town with an aerial assault while the family was trying to flee, because of this destruction, they make it to the only place they think is safe which is the bunker. We have no clue as to what's really outside this bunker, except for the fear that the "things" outside may discover their bunker and kill them. What happens next is just strange as we discover this family is not what they seem to be. Quite the twist at the end. No nudity, nothing questionable, some creepy scares enjoy.
Cheonbaksa toima yeonguso: seolgyeongui bimil (2023)
Nicely done scammer turned authentic shaman
Dr. Cheon is a class A scammer with his sidekick technician who creates the illusion of fact to get money from superstitious and gullible people who think he's legitimate until he faces the real thing in an evil mage who uses severed fingers to inhabit people to try and kill him because he is the grandson of a master shaman who attempted to imprison the mage in an eternal vault and failed. Dr. Cheon with his half sword goes in search of the other half and to finish the talisman that his grandfather failed and lock the evil mage up for good. Lots of great ghosts and cgi spirits, lots of excitement and fun effects as Dr. Cheon battles the many who attempt to stop him. Nothing questionable, no nudity, some extreme violence (cutting off fingers) and quite a few disturbing visages. It's in Korean so one needs the appropriate subtitles to watch effectively. Enjoy!
Banlieue 13 (2004)
Incredible action! Choreography TOP NOTCH!
Very very few movies ever get beyond 5.0 in reviews here on IMDB, When you see a few get very close to 8.0 then you start to take serious notice. This movie seemed like just another run of the mill action flick till I actually watched it. I will watch it a few more times, It's that good! The choreography is incredible, scaling tall buildings and leaping from roof to roof at a very fast pace, reminds me a bit of the early Jackie Chan movies where he mesmerizes you with his stunt abilities. This is like that but taken to a far higher level. Cyril Raffaelli and David Belle do stuff that seem superhuman yet its very believable due to both of them having awesome physiques and super stunt talent. The plot is well thought out with enough twists to make it a real blast to watch! You will NOT be disappointed! Nothing questionable, no nudity or graphic gore, lots of gun play and violence but not too over the top there. A truly one of a kind action movie that will keep you interested throughout. Its OK for the kiddos too! Enjoy!
