Voce umana (2014)
Too old
Loren's son again on the search for prestigious parts for his mother to 'shine' no matter how inappropriate. This isn't right for her. She is far too old for this part. Watch Ingrid Bergman's performance from 1967 and you will see the difference.

Spoiler Alert (2022)
unlovable
Jim Parsons blank face makes it very difficult to engage in his character. He is not a character actor. The love scenes are unconvincing. They say opposites attract but here you cant help but wonder what do they see in each other. Especially someone as gorgeous as Ben Aldridge, we dont get to understand what he sees in Jim Parson. Jim Parsons is strangly lit and covered in make up in order to hide the 12 year gap between him and Ben Aldridge. Also the relationship with his parents was never explained. One moment they appear to be conservative and the next moment we hear from his dad they are super liberal. Overall better than expected but could have been a much better movie with a better character development and without Jim Parsons.
Glass Onion (2022)
Noone cares
Who's-done-it movies usually have big names, thats one of their appeal, next to an interesting story line. Unfurtunately most of the actors here are b-actors with no charisma. You don't really care about any of them. All of them are awful human beings, loud and toxic. The script is thin and the performances just mediocre. It becomes clear who the vilain is from the beginning, thats proof the story hasnt been executed correctly. Daniel should drop that annoying accent. Its not funny nor querky, he is no Peter Ustinov. Also, hinting that he is gay is not relevant nor necessary. A souless product.
In from the Side (2022)
aka In from Behind
What a mess. Although it is nice to see gay men portrayed as being non-camp for a change, portraying them as ultra straight-acting is also not realistic. The main issue of this movie is not only the length of the movie (30 min too long) but the script. The dialogue is no different from any day time soap and the drama has a telenovela feel to it. The characters are far too old to engage in this type of teenage drama. A lot of repetitive scenes could have been cut out easily. Apart from one character all characters including the main ones are not very likeable. You don't really care about any of them which show a lack of character development. A lot has not been explained and you're left with wondering what the message was. Also, the music is over the top reminding of something you would hear in a war or historical battle movie. For a movie that rides on sexual attraction and the resulting drama, the sex scenes look staged, awkward and sanitised. Sometimes a tighter editing can help but the shortcomings of this movie are too many, unfortunately.
Wednesday (2022)
Not Addams
Well, if you hear "patriarchy" is being mentioned in every episode you know what to think of this show and who the target audience is. Has nothing in common with the Addams but rather Twilight meets Harry Potter. Also, grown ups playing teenagers? Juvenile characters and artificial dialogues to please a young audience. This Wednesday is the opposite of the original character. Originally she was supportive of her family not an aggressive, hateful and opinionated brat like here. No wonder Addams fans are disappointed with this one. They have taken some aspects of the Addams in order to produce some hybrid story.
Tár (2022)
What a let-down
What a let-down
Visually nicely shot but ultimatly very, very boring and 30 min too long. A lot of the banal convos could have been shorter or ommitted. Nothing really happens. You dont even get to listen to classical music that much. Also, forcing the audience to sit through 10 min of reverse closing credits at the beginning of the movie is pretentious.
Cate wasn't right for this part, uncomfortably overacting. You could see the acting. Very mannered and over the top. A master class in delivering lines. Monotonous and passionless. That's all.
Tilda Swinton would have been perfect but not sure she could have saved this overlong non-story.
Score (1973)
ground breaking
Great time capsule. Very ambitious and beautifully shot, great editing and directing, ground breaking for early 70s. Apparently the first depiction of male - male interaction. There have been several different versions. A soft version and a hard-kore version. If you can get the explissit version you are going to be in for a treat, remember it was 1973!. Acting is better than in the usual x rated productions from the seventies. You cant help but to laugh but more appreciative than laughing at it. Just to clarify, the story line is nothing special, its more the time in which it was produced - allowed - to be shown. Having this in mind, it is an exceptional film document.
Bros (2022)
Gay bubble
Billy Eichner's character is very annoying. Self centred and entitled with a victim mentality blaming the world for everything that went wrong in his life. No self-reflection or accountability. Usually you make your main character relatable but not him. A typical cry baby trapped in a mans body. Luke Macfarlane character is the opposite, down to earth and easy going. Unfortunately his attraction to Billy's character is never explained. What does he see in him is beyond me. The seccs scenes are very staged and awkward. There is no convincing chemistry between those two. Some funny lines and good supporting cast but everything comes from inside the gay city bubble. The constant bashing of straight people is unnecessary and off-putting.
Bullet Train (2022)
Hot Aaron Taylor-Johnson
This is not a Brad Pitt movie, this is an Aaron Taylor-Johnson movie. Brads limited range becomes very apparent opposite of Aaron Taylor-Johnson. In general American actors become pale next to British actors. Otherwise a fast paced at times hard to follow adventure but visually stunning. Excellent stunts and lots of humour not taking itself too seriously. After a slow start you are on a bumpy ride, very engaging. Also, what has Sandra Bullock done to her face, urgh!
Dear imbd, my review is not too short. Dear imbd, my review is not too short. Dear imbd, my review is not too short. Dear imbd, my review is not too short.
Blonde (2022)
brilliant
People who complain that the movie is not accurate should stop hyperventilating. Its based on a fictional book. Looking for realism in a work or fiction is pointless. No one knows what really happened behind closed doors apart from MM herself.
Despite the "inaccuracies" the director managed to incorporate a huge number of known fragments about MMs life and work by re-enacting known real events and situations. Great cinematography and editing. A marvellous Ana de Armas. She should get all available prices.
Yes it is a hard watch but life is not a fun park. Things shown here happened and are still happening. This is a great homage to an icon who was in fact a tortured soul. Glossing over because you don't like the realities of life is immature.
La voz humana (2020)
boring
Visually interesting, great editing but story very thin and unengaging. You don't really care for her pathetic hurt broken story. No context given. If the story had more meat could have been a better movie. Short stories usually are to the point but here, no one cares really. The best thing here are the interior design and the fashion choices. Oh and the dog, the dog steals the show. You get more attached to the dog than to her. Nothing else to write, why does IMBD want me to write over 100 characters more is beyond me. Nothing else to write, why does IMBD want me to write over 100 characters more is beyond me.
Jerry & Marge Go Large (2022)
Uninspiring
Monotonous directing. No suspense. No chemistry between the leads. AB not quiet right. We couldn't care about any of the characters. Even as a TV movie of the week rather uninspiring.
Nazi Hunter: The Beate Klarsfeld Story (1986)
missed opportunity
Unwatchable. Whoever thought FF could pull this off should be punished. Well, the result speaks for itself. The dialogue must have been written by apprentices. GP is the only one conveying a character but even she cant save this mess.
Nightmare Alley (2021)
Boringly long
Far too long. Visually great but without pace, no suspense, rather boring, doesn't grab your attention. One thing though, it shows Bradley Cooper's limitations. A pretty face isn't enough to carry such story.
Mass (2021)
Only for Ann Dowd
Nice to see Ann Dowd playing a more positive and relatable character. Great job. The only reason to watch this. Breeda Wool and Reed Birney are annoying like hell. Was expecting better direction and camera work considering the story takes place in a room.
Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks (2014)
Awful, just awful
Awful due to the bad and overacting of Cheyenne Jackson. A grown up going around placing judgment on others for his imaginary oppression, aggressive, toxic and irrational. Who behaves like this? Don't know how close this is to the play but this script is just terrible. Cant see what Gena Rowlands saw in him to reactivate a relationship with someone that toxic. Cheat interiors, face scenery, low budget look. The underrated and now frail Gena Rowlands deserves better. For a story that's around dance lessons, no dancing actually happened between the main characters. Couldt they find more appropriate actors?
The Man Between (1953)
better than expected
James Mason and his funny, unconvincing German accent, why not hire a German actor? Hildegard Knef and Claire Bloom are magnificent. Couldn't see how and why Claire Bloom fell in love with James Mason. Great location scenes of Berlin in ruins. Story was kind of convoluted but not without suspense.
Nous trois ou rien (2015)
Sad and funny
Great story, nicely executed and well written. Managed a good balance between politics, drama and comedy. Despite the seriousness of the topic the funny and witty portrayal of all characters is top notch. Great soundtrack and pace of storytelling.
Teleioi xenoi (2016)
pointless
Sanitised version of the Italian original. What's the point of copy and paste? Watch the original or even the French version. No point watching any other version especially not the German version with an alternate ending.
Pope Joan (1972)
Underrated
Beautifully shot and excellently acted. Love the cinematography and design. Great sound track by Maurice Jarre. The uneven pace and editing is merely the result of heavy cuts in order to remove some flashbacks and length of the movie. Hoping for the unediting version to be released, if possible.
Petite maman (2021)
stale and soulless
Predictable and boring, very boring. Unnatural dialogue, no depth, disjointed narrative. Children of that age are livelier, curious and less depressed. Nice little story which could have been told more engaging in less time.
Last Night in Soho (2021)
Too long
Too long and repetitive. Nicely shot on location in Soho. Started strong but took a dive 30 minutes into the story. Repetitive Angst moments to the predictable ending just to show women in distress. Pretty immature and geared towards girls who see themselves as victims of society.
The Cry (2018)
Too long
Annoying flashbacks telling lies. Stretched story, could have been told in three episodes. Apart from the female lead the acting is just awful. Not a single likeable character.
Torn Curtain (1966)
Torn to pieces
Paul Newman is no scientist and Julie Andrews is no assistant! Not only they are miscast they don't have chemistry either. Especially Julie looks like "what am I doing here?". Only Lila Kedrova is convicting as usual, next to her both leads fade away.
Julie (1956)
Hilarious!
This is a comedy where the actors somehow managed to keep a straight face! Appalling lines. Ludicrous story. Doris Day is convicting as a mortified wife but, constantly scared and hysterical but hasn't she read the script?
