Meet the Parents (2010)
Could Be Better
I watched this after I looked up the Canadian version and saw it was based on this show... FYI the Canadian version is much, much better than this show, so if you're going to watch one check out the Canadian version. This show feels fake but the Canadian version seems very real and has much better and meaner pranks. Some of the boyfriends are so stupid and funny it's unbelievable.
A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985)
Solid
This is an underrated horror movie and I think that's because it follows the first movie in this franchise which was so very good that it's pretty much impossible to follow it up and not be a bit disappointing. The good acting and writing are still there with some really good scares and effects. This is a lot of fun and Freddy is better than ever in this one!
Coming to America (1988)
Murphy At His Best
This is Eddie Murphy at his absolute best and is one of his very best movies. He plays an African prince who comes to America (NYC) to find the girl of his dreams, but plays down his wealth and extravagance by posing as a lowly janitor at a McDonald's type fast food joint in order to find a woman who truly loves him and not his money and power. Arsenio tags along as his bodyguard and friend, though he finds it much harder to move from a palace into a squalid apartment. The cast is great and there's a lot of very funny jokes in this one. It's a very good story as well.
Tom Green: Live (2013)
Like Bad Stand Up Comedy
This is like a bad stand up comic. Tom on stage live with a stool ranting about technology when he was a kid and how it has changed, and how we look at TV and celebrities. He has some decent jumping off points but mostly he just clumsily sets up premises and then goes off on tangents with some pretty bad and obvious jokes. What's really annoying is that when stuff doesn't get a lot of laughs he just yells the same punch lines he just said louder, repeating them or making noises and doing his rubber face act to make the audience laugh out of discomfort or because they know they're supposed to. This is a pretty sad video, whether you like Tom Green or not (I love him) this is one that you should skip, it only makes him seem less funny.
Tom Green: Something Smells Funny (1999)
Something Smells... Not So Funny Any More
Tom Green's stuff is getting a bit stale by now with this special collection of bits. The pranks and gross out jokes are very old and he doesn't even seem like he's enjoying it so much. I'd only recommend this one for really big fans of Tom Green's stuff.
Tom Green: Tonsil Hockey (1999)
Not Tom Green's Best
There are some funny moments in this but this is not the best comedy Tom Green has done. It seems like he is just going through the motions with some of the usual gross out stuff and some stupid stunts and pranks.
Total Drama Presents: The Ridonculous Race (2015)
Boring Spinoff
This is a pretty boring spin-off of Total Drama Island that really doesn't live up to the franchise's name or best series and episodes. I think the show is really running out of steam and ideas here.
The Latest Buzz (2007)
Not Great
This show wasn't bad but at the same time wasn't very good. Some decent acting can't save it from some bad writing and jokes, and the stories just got old and annoying far too often. Even for a kids show this wasn't a very good series that could keep anyone's interest for too long. 4 in 10.
Spyfall (2014)
Whaaaaat?
Whoever gave the VHS camcorder and VHS video tape to the kid who made this movie needs to stand up and apologize for allowing this super cheap and awful excuse for a "movie" to happen. This is garbage start to finish with a horrible script, bad acting, the worst effects I've ever seen in a video, and really nothing at all good about it. This movie isn't even bad in a way where you can still enjoy it because it's unintentionally funny and you can laugh at it, it's just plain awful. I watched it for free in Ottawa and I still want my money back this thing was so damn bad.
The Muppets: A Celebration of 30 Years (1986)
Missing Something
This was a fun special with a lot to like but there was also a lot missing. I know that after 30 years of Henson's Muppets there was definitely much more than they could possibly cover in this one short special, but I would have loved to have seen more new sketches as well as some of my favourite "best of" old ones, and more of the music everyone loves that they've done, as well as some more in-depth interviews with the people behind the scenes. I don't need to see celebrity guests etc that we see all the time on the regular Muppet shows who don't have anything to do with the day-to-day work of The Muppets.
The Newsdesk with Ron Sparks (2009)
Funny Guy, Not So Funny Show
This series looks really cheap production wise with a bad green screen background that makes it obvious they are not actually in a news studio but in front of a picture of one. Maybe that is supposed to be funny but to me it is just distracting. The jokes are hit and miss. I do like Ron Sparks comedy and have seen him do this live and it was much better, for some reason it just does not translate to the screen here whether it has to do with not interacting with each other or the audience or the bad and distracting production levels or what. Too bad because it could have been good.
Monday Report (2004)
Hard To Watch
I used to love watching Rick Mercer and his rants on This Hour Has 22 Minutes but this new show of his started bad and just kept getting worse over time. I don't want to watch him visit towns and do stupid dad jokes and then try to do archery with an archery team and be bad at it and tell jokes about how bad he is, or drive around with an ambulance driver and put the siren on and tell jokes about how bad he is as an ambulance driver... his rants used to be funny and have something real to say (political commentary!) but after he moved to his own show they lost all their edginess and bite. Now he's just a parody of himself who does stupid things like jet-ski while doing puns about jet-skiing. This show has no point and zero laughs and it's a real shame because he was so great at one point.
The Switch (2016)
Awkward
This was a really awkward show to watch. I'm not referring to the subject matter of the show here, it's just awkward to watch it because the comedy in it is so very bad. I liked some of the actors but this show was just really hard to get through because of the bad stories and writing. Many bad jokes requiring the rolling of eyes, FYI.
The Toronto Show (2003)
Awful Late Night Show
This was a really awful show. The droning hip hop music that just didn't fit the show and what they were doing, and the awful host fake smiling his way through every night's episode, and the bad sketches and the really awful guest musicians and artists and dancers and stand up comics. This was a really cheap and awful show on a really cheap and awful network that died very quickly for good reason.
The Trouble with Tracy (1970)
Hard To Rate
I'm finding it very hard to rate this show... on the one hand I remember watching it and cringing at how bad the production was. The sets were so cheap and the acting was so over the top and the writing was so amateur level... but on the other hand the people on the show were doing some badly written characters so it must have been hard to act as them, and they (especially Tracy) were so likable and fun to watch... and I remember that when I watched the show I also laughed a lot. It's like cringe comedy before The Office but where the cringing wasn't actually intentional. So it was a very bad show but unintentionally good in a way.
Anyway I look back at it and remember it was awful but I also look back at it and really love it in a way. So it's hard to rate!
The Vacant Lot (1994)
Not Kids In The Hall... But Still Good!
This was a good and funny sketch series that was sadly very short lived. I remember watching it on CBC and enjoying it. They had some cute sketches, a few good songs, some good laughs... I bet this show would have stuck around longer if it didn't have to follow the huge cult hit that was The Kids In The Hall, because not many shows would be able to live up to that kind of success...
The Wilkinsons (2006)
The Wilkinsons!
If you're a fan of The Wilkinsons and their music like me, then obviously you're going to like this show. There's plenty of them and some good songs. The comedy's not the best but hey, what do you expect from a family of musicians?
The Fantastic Miss Piggy Show (1982)
Fun Stuff, Lots Of Miss Piggy
This is a fun special. I'm a huge fan of the Muppets and could really watch anything the Henson people have done over the years. This is one of my least favourites of what they have done but I still like it. The only down side for me is that the entire special as you would imagine is focused on Miss Piggy and she's my least favourite Muppet. The voice and shrillness and the whiny complaints grate on my ears after a while and there's only so much of her singing I can take in one sitting. Not bashing it though, it's still a fine special and for anyone who likes Miss Piggy more than me you're gonna love it.
The Alan Thicke Show (1980)
Not A Great Talk Show
This wasn't a great talk show and Alan Thicke was pretty awkward. In a way this would kind of be like Canada's version of The Chevy Chase Show except in Canada there is at least the excuse of no money to fall back on. Alan Thicke is kind of smarmy and not great at doing witty banter, in the moment comedy, or entertaining interviews with people, but he was a likable guy who deserved a better show than this.
The Associates (2001)
Funny!
This was a good and funny series. A Canadian comedy sitcom about lawyers at a firm and the cases and struggles they go through. I wasn't a huge fan of some of the romantic story angles that trudged on in this show but the courtroom scenes and comedy writing were quite good and well done! I miss this show.
The David Steinberg Show (1972)
Unique & Funny
This was a unique and funny show. It is like the Muppet Show in that it's a show about doing a show, and it very much is a forerunner to series like The Larry Sanders Show. David Steinberg would have stand up comedy, sketches, etc and the show was always funny and fun to watch, not great but a harmless and interesting way to spend an evening with some laughs thrown in. Some great guests too.
The Beaverton (2016)
Very Bad News Comedy
In a sea of comedy news programs, this one is easily the very worst. Daily Show, Sam Bee, 22 Minutes, Bill Maher, the list goes on and is filled with many shows, all of which are a million times funnier and better done than this unfunny mess of a show.
Love Court (2009)
The Worst
This is one of the worst shows Much Music ever put on the air. The people on it were nowhere near funny, the guests were airheads and every episode was incredibly boring.
Silent But Deadly (2011)
The Worst
This is a pointless and stupid movie. Very predictable, terrible acting, awful jokes, zero production value, the worst CGI I've ever seen, this is just stupid.
Schitt$ Creek (2015)
Someone Help Chris Elliott
Chris Elliott was obviously kidnapped and forced to be in this show at gunpoint. I know this because he used to be one of the funniest people on TV and now he's playing a one dimensional moron reading jokes from the most poorly written scripts I've ever seen performed on television. If he's doing this willingly I'm no longer a fan. This show is so bad I simply can't believe it's on television. Oh and I agree with the huge number of reviews here who think Dan Levy is the most untalented schmuck in TV history and who are suspicious that these thousands of glowing ratings and reviews the popped up are not genuine. I don't know any people in real life who have watched this show and actually enjoy it.
