Paul L. Carr is a Chicago film director, producer, writer, actor and owner of Busted City Productions, which has produced four feature films: American Barbarian, currently available on Prime, Tubi and a number of other platforms, is a dark comedy and political satire which portrays the absurdity of the Trump era. Casual Criminals, also on an number of platforms in 2024, is a slap stick comedy reminiscent of Mel Brooks. Empire is a surreal sci-fi fantasy set in The Pacific Trash Vortex and should be available on streaming platforms in the next year. Busted City portrays the intense racial politics surrounding Harold Washington's election as Chicago's first Black Mayor in 1983, and will also be streaming in the next year or so. All four features won numerous awards on the festival circuit. In addition to these features, Busted City Productions also released two short films--Interlude, a dream-like fantasy with an operatic score and Hitchhiking to Mars, a silent film shot in the deserts of New Mexico and currently on the festival circuit. A feature-length documentary will be filmed in February 2024 and released by 2025.
