White Chicks (2004)
The Wayens brothers have done it again!
Political correctness need not apply.Thats what makes a Wayens Brother movie so funny. If you can easily be offended then go see some sweet predictable love story. But if you want to laugh your ass off for an hour and a half to two hours Then check out the Wayens.Thay got the same thing going for them that the television series"All In The Famley"had going for it.No one's safe including the offending party's.Yes,White Chicks is mindless comedy. But mindless comedy at its best in my opinion.Sit back, relax, pop it in your DVD player and enjoy.I cant wait for their next project!Simple plot Marlon and Shawn Wayens play two F.B.I. agents who after bungling a case are recruited to escort two rich sisters to the Hamptons that might be a target of a kidnapping attempt. After a small car wreak and two small scratches on the sisters faces Thay decide can't be caught dead in the Hamptons where with all the reporters and photographers and Socialite friends. To avoid digging even deeper into a hole with their boss,Marlon and Shawn use their connections at the F.B.I. to dress like the sisters and go in their place.
The Rose (1979)
Drugs!Sex!and Rock and Roll!
Well two out of three can kill you these days. But The Rose was set in the late sixty's or early seventy's where drugs were all she really had to worry about. She diden,t.If your a fan of Bette Midlers or Janis Joplin you should love The Rose.Bette Midler Gives an Oscar worthy performance (she was nominated, but Sally Field won for NormaRae)in her first major film role.Rose Foster is a major star in the rock and blues music world But being a great success with a voice that most of the world would kill for is not enough to fill her emptiness.Shes on the booze in the first few frames, the drugs soon follow.Recently relesed on DVD,The Rose is not the feel good movie of 79 or any year but Bette Midler, her voice and her acting talent make this film well worth watching.
Bonnie and Clyde (1967)
This 1967 movie has aged very well.
I was a year old when BONNIE AND CLYDE was released, so I don't remember it from then.It was one or my parents favorite movies so in the early eighties when the VCR became widespread was the first time I saw the film.I was captivated. In my opinion every one in the movie gave an Oscar worthy performance.Estelle Parsons won for best supporting actress.Shes best remembered in resent years as playing Rosanne's mother on Rosanne Barr's long running sit-com.Warren Beatty,Faye Dunaway,Gene Hackman all three went on to other great performances but in my opinion none ary better than their roles in this movie. And if you know the three actors, thats saying a lot.Don't be put off by the fact that the movie is thirty seven years old.Like Midnight Cowboy its a timeless classic and the age of the film just enhances the movie. If you like dramatic accounts of true crime this is a movie for you.
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Very well acted!Probley the best drama of 2000 if not to date!
This movie is about addictions. The whole film comes across as raw, real, heartbreaking and frightening. The movie under no terms glamoizes drugs in the least. You can feel all the emotions of the four main characters from beginning to end.I was told the film was rated NC-17 for one scene involving Jennifer Connley, as in my opinion would be a mistake to cut.So be sure to see the directors cut.The films disturbing emotions are even made even more real by the quick and as far as I know, totally original camera work.See this movie for the realistic downward spiral that drugs and other addictions cause. For all the crap out there that gives people the impression that drugs are cool and harmless."Requiem For A Dream" really hits an in your face home run.
Agnes of God (1985)
I for one had questions.
I just now saw this movie yesterday morning on HBO.I found it very entertaining with fine acting by Jane Fonda,Anne Bancroft and Meg Tilly. All parts in the film, even the supporting roles were pulled off with out a hitch. But much like the old Peggy Lee hit,I have to ask myself,"Is that all there is"? Though religious myself I am not a catholic. Therefore Imight be no one to judge.I can see why it ended like it did.Though I was hoping for a different ending.I'm in no way suggesting you shoulden't see this movie.Like I said It is very entertaining and very well acted.Just do me a favor and tell me what you think of the ending.
