Inclusion Criteria (2018)
Will Keep You Guessing.
This is an interesting little movie.
It stars the great Judy Norton as "Tara", a talented, somewhat OCD painter. Her brushes must be exactly right, her hat must be exactly in the right spot, etc.
Tara finds a sack of cash and calls the police to turn it in. Then things start to get weird: her brushes get moved, her hat gets moved. Her things getting moved and then things that go bump in the night, not something someone with OCD needs to experience. Making the experience more difficult for her is that her mother had mental illness, and she thinks that she may be "cracking up" like her mother did.
Tara's ally is one of the police officers, with whom she has an affair.
I can't say too much more without giving spoilers.
Judy Norton gives one of the finest & engaging performances of her career. This one will keep you guessing right until the end. Pay attention throught the film, and you WILL "get it".
An Ex-Hooker's Christmas Carol (1995)
Not a bad little Christmas film
The title pretty much tells it all. It's "A Christmas Carol", except instead of ghosts, it has "magic miniature snowmen", and instead of Scrooge, it has Millie, an ex-hooker.
Millie is on probation and, for her community service, must become a companion for Keith, who is mentally challenged. Turns out Keith knows of a tiny forest with tiny snowmen that grant wishes. Millie makes her wishes, but, as the old saying goes "be careful what you wish for". One especially moving scene, was when, in one "wish world" Millie's father is dead, even though in HER world he was alive. The scene at the headstone was quite touching. The rest of the story is a silly romp. Fun and funny.
If you want to watch a different kind of Christmas story. I think you might enjoy this one.
Backwoods Marcy (1999)
A MAN gets brutalized for a change
A creep of a man is trying to find a certain town where he has "business". Along the way, he picks up a woman hitchhiker who wants to have sex with him. He tells her he is married, and proceeds to have sex with her anyway. He keeps trying and trying and trying to find this town. He asks a man on the side of the road for directions, he gives him directions, and tells him NOT to pass the black tower...so of COURSE he passes the black tower, because he is too busy on his cell phone.
While still trying to find the town, he comes upon a "less attractive than the hitchhiker" woman who offers to help him, but he doesn't want her help. He passes her a few times, and she offers a few times. Finally, he gives up, and asks for her help. She says she can't TELL him how to get there, she has to TAKE him. When he realizes she seems to b scamming him, he makes her get out of the car. So, he keeps driving, while looking at a map, he hits that woman with his car. He leaves her for dead. She isn't dead and when she comes upon him again, she starts hitting on him (pretty understandable since he hit her with his car and left her for dead), so he gives her a BIG slap, and takes off running.
The rest of the film is pretty much the same as what similar films do against women, only in this film it is happening TO the MAN. He gets raped, brutalized, starved, etc.
Decent job done by all.
Deep Undead (2005)
Interesting little film.
The film starts out in the 1920's with a party on a ship at sea. All of a sudden one of the party-goers starts biting the others, and the ship eventually sinks. Segue to the "present", where divers are looking for the bodies of 2 other divers that were looking for the sunken ship and turned up missing. Add to the mix that where the ship went down is a failed nuclear power plant that is expelling radiation into the water; AND how the government is trying to cover everything up.
This is basically a "vampires under the sea" film. The big draw to the film is the phenomenal underwater cinematography! LOTS of underwater scenes.
There are some funny things in here as well. Yes, this is a really low budget movie, but that doesn't stop it from being entertaining. Watch with an open mind, and you just might enjoy it. :)
Macabre Medicine (2009)
This movie is a HOOT!
It starts out with "coming attractions" & "concessions ads". That alone should let you know you're not watching a SERIOUS movie. I laughed continuously through this movie, which is more than I can say for a lot of big budget comedies.
Yes, this movie is also "horror". It moves right along, keeps you occupied. There are lots of film homages/references, which was nice to see. It's about a killer and his friend, who doesn't want to believe that his friend IS a killer. For being a low budget film, the gore was pretty well done, and cringe-worthy (in a good way). While the killer is killing there are lots of funny things going on: a disappearing cat, people "magically" appearing on the screen, lots of people not even noticing that the killer has on a blood-soaked white lab coat & his hands & face are covered in blood, and the funniest bit (ongoing throughout the film) was people NOT noticing (or at least not reacting to) hearing a man continuously screaming outside!
Watch with an open mind, and you will enjoy. Yes, the movie is comical, but it also makes you go "YECHHH!". PERFECT combination of comedy and horror.
The Nothing (2018)
Nicely done "moral of the story" film.
I also don't get that 1 star review. I suspect the person didn't even WATCH the movie. Oh well, on to the review.
For the first minute or so, I was like "WT...?", because the guy just SAT there staring into the camera saying, NOTHING. After about a minute he blinks and says "Is too much silence a bad thing?". Then the movie moves into how he wants to make a film about being alone, and what it does to a person. He has a loving GF, and a very good friend, that are supportive of his efforts. You can tell from the get-go that the guy is a LITTLE off...and he gradually goes downhill during his stay in the woods.
So, the first 15-20 minutes I did a LOT of laughing (yes, it's SUPPOSED to be funny, and it is). Once he got into the woods, the funny parts were scarce. It has just enough "action" to keep you watching, as Clayton descends into "madness".
If you don't like SPOILERS, then PLEASE, read no further!
SPOILERS!!!!!!!
Clayton never HAD the emotional or mental stability to even DO his little project, and never SHOULD have done it. THAT'S the moral of the story. (At least that's the way that *I* see it).
Morbid Stories (2019)
Destined to become a cult classic
This is an interesting little low-budget anthology horror film. There is a "wrap-around" story, that is wrapped around 4 central stories.
This film has zombies, vampires, demons/ghouls, monsters, and vampires that become zombies! What could be cooler than THAT!
This film reminds you : never let strangers into your home to use the phone, never to play around with a Quija board, never to go into an attic of a rental house, you don't always know as much about people as you THINK you do, and, ALWAYS stay in your car!
This film would be a great date-night movie; or watching during a rain storm; or just when you feel like watching something that is a little bit different, but the same as everything else, all at the same time.
5th Passenger (2017)
Citizen VS. Non-Citizen
It's hard to write a good review without a little spoiling, so, fair warning, there will be some small, what could be considered SPOILERS.
Miller is found alive, but non-responsive. Memory recovery is used to find out what happened to the other people in the pod. The film expertly goes back and forth between Miller's memories, and the people recording those memories.
Lt. Miller, comes up with good ideas, and saves a man's life, but she is told that her title of Lt. means NOTHING because she is a non-citizen. Citizens are listened to, and given first priority for escape pods. Non-citizens are only listened to if there is no other option, and they are expendable.
Five people, including Miller and the father of her unborn child, are stuck in an escape pod meant for 4 people. As they start to run out of oxygen, they start looking for options. When they reach another escape pod, they plan to cannibalize it for it's oxygen. While on the outside, Thompson (Miller's lover) sees something that he can't explain. When they get back inside, they discover an alien has come aboard and is killing people.
This film has just about everything: drama, a little romance, space ships, psychological intrigue, fighting, and, of course, EXPLOSIONS! I was entertained, and intrigued from beginning to end. The visual and special effects rival those of films with much larger budgets. The choice of music selections was good, and the sound effects were good. Cinematography was really, really good. Direction? So good that I will be looking for other films from this Director. The rating system doesn't allow half stars; I wanted to give this 9 and 1/2.
Benjamin Troubles (2015)
GOOD movie
This movie has a little bit of almost everything: comedy, drama, romance, BROmance, & fantasy. Watching this movie is a bit of a roller-coaster ride. Ben (as played by the exceptional Manu Intiraymi) is a very sympathetic character. YES, he makes some bad choices about the money, but, that is the POINT of the movie; having money doesn't necessarily undo your problems, and may even CAUSE some.
Mishel Prada (Nova) and Manu Intiraymi (Ben) were a good choice for the romantic angle of the story. Whatever "it" is, they HAVE it. Mishel Prada is a very good actress. I have never seen her in anything before, but I will be looking for more from her now.
Phillip Andre Botello (Miles): This actor was the perfect choice for this character. He WAS the character!
All the supporting actors did a decent job. I was never bored (this is a rarity for me with romance movies). In some parts I literally laughed out loud...like the part when Ben tells Miles to stick his hand in his pants pocket, Miles does and nothing is there, then Ben thrusts his hips forward and says "Do it again"...LOL.
I don't see how anyone could be disappointed with this movie! GOOD JOB by all involved!!!
