Svetlana (2018)
dont believe the rating on any russian show ..see for yourself
THIS SHOW HAD PHENOMINAL ACTING by the lead character..and it made me tear up several time..
rich in histroical details and good try at authentic decor and details..
it shows another side not seen before of a daughter living forerver in her father shadow and fighting her own battle .. I dont know how accurate it it but it felt sincere, a rare accomplishment in russian tv or anywhere else
i am not aware how. Much is fiction and how much is fact..or how faithful the show is to her memior ..but its very well done and pefectly acted ..the actress deserved an awarde for this performance...we see many actress in the west lauded and awarded for performances that are much inferior to what we see here .
I can tell the actress put her heart and soul in this character.
Antonella (1991)
Andrea Del Boca...do I need to say more
I watched this in my early teens and man was I captivated ..
I fell in love with antonella and with Andrea ..the most beautiful face and endearing performance you will ever see in soap opera..andrea is criminally underrated..
even if loved by millions..she still deserved real roles and a longer time on screen..anyway this is her best role to date..forget the plot..her character and facial expression and lines are genuis ..
and only idiots are rating this show badly ..they deserve the stupid new telenovelas of today.
There is also anthoer genuis performance in the series and thats of the complicated. Osvaldo Guidi character...a role that you hardely find in soap operas...there is also her chemistry with.gustavo which was possibly ruined to too many roles together.
Deo geullori (2022)
wow ..netflix is bankrupt
Dull...and as repetitive as can be with nothing outstanding
revenge is sweet for a million time ...with a beautiful woman in the lead who is very cold ..good cause this leading korean actress can't act for her life ( like in her whole career she shows minimal to nil facial expression ) its really enough to be gorgeous in korea
...she can be one of the worst in korea .
.what a shame when korea has so much talent but not popularity ..
but why do we talent or an interesting realistic story when netflix audience will buy it anyway ...
I wish netflix will use its money to promote the real talent in korea whether its actors.. directors or writers.
Emily (2022)
emily bronte as DH lawrence
Frances is a decent actress ..and technically she is semi decent director so far..but as a creator of art..she is far from it
we had many of those ( reimagining of famous authors lives ) in which these authors were seen through their works and made part of it.. the results were absurd always from ( shakespeare in love ) to ( becoming jane )..till this one.. these fictional works suggest a writer can not write anything not autobiographical ..that there is no such thing as imagination ! Or simply these authors lives were so boring unless we spice it up by a spicy love affair...that has no source in real life
actually the handsome curate in question has never been linked to this bronte AT ALL in any source.. rather it was the other tow who were allegedly connected to him ( as he was alleged to have been interested in anne in a platonic sort of way ) but alas .. all of this is so boring for todays public and creators.. so we make emily bronte something of a DH lawrence INSTEAD
I cant wait for tolstoy biography inspired by anna karenina ..next.
Otchiy bereg (2017)
some great acting and warm heartfelt scenes makes me ignore the unbelievable parts
The lead guy is brilliant playing stepka ..and all the cast did a good job..now there is too much coincidences..and and unbelievable parts mainly concerning ( brother and sister ) being a couple in communist russia and having a child ! Even if they are really unrelated.. they are still officially siblings .. this controversial bit was never alluded to.also stepka managed to survive too much violence and torture and explosions....the whole vibe reminds me of tolstoy works ..russia needs more work like this instead of the stupid war shows.
Carrington (1995)
another terrible biography
I advise you read about those people instead of watching this mess ..everything is wrong from the casting to the acting.. that they seem more like.caricatures repeating lifeless dialogue that is taken from letters and not real conversations .. I didnt see any dora carrington in this film or any of her very complex relationships...
Candy (2022)
see it as it is...a cynical look at suburbia perfection
Instead of coming for a thriller ...its another cynical look at mundane suburbia...and at what lies beneath the best of them
if you see it this way.. you will get over the bad ( its so boring ) reviews.
Edit..
Also.. its actually more subtle than those reviews are telling you
its a series that gives a metalicious care for details..this with the dark filters are leading to establish the nightmarish vibe that has darkness buried deep down
what all those reviewers missed is that the creators give no ( shadow of a doubt ) that the perfection of candy is a facade and mask that has something sinister underneath...its as simple as giving candy to betty daughter after chopping mer mom
those viewers just didnt bother to see whats beyond ...exactly like the jury and the community..
The Colour Room (2021)
watchable but very predictable and cliche
This is Such a fromalic basic film that is hard to believe its a true story ..for a start..the real lady wasn't a beauty by any standard..choosing an actress that is more of the plain side would at least give it that REAL feel ..think the wonderful film (Séraphine ) and how believable it was...
also the authentic period piece feel was missing ..and the love story forced and unbelievable...the feminist tone also feels forced like its the case in most of the new productions...its a watchable film that feels like a standard bbc production which isnt a bad thing for a period film lover.
Kastanjemanden (2021)
you can find all crime show cliches here
This is a good example about how these.scandinavian crime shows are. Too overrated
this is a bunch of every cliche in a detective crime show book combined with a contrived unbelievable plot ..disguised with the usual grim autosphere and elegant cinematography ..throw in social commentary ...the show presents danish politics in such a fantastical light..
..no acting or character writing stands out
it starts pretty bland.. then improves around ep 3 and becomes more engrossing and then ends like it started ..bland
the interesting thing is of course..the little ppl called chestant men ..reminded me of the little men in one of my fav sherlock holmes episodes.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
unpleasant and pretentious
I see no point for her by taking this adaptation except aiming for awards.. by going for the toxic masculinity in the west..
...not pleasant , pretty or too deep..as compared with the novel.. she chooses to disguise and eliminate some key moments to achieve a surprise that is the only highlight of the whole thing ..while leaving some characters behind without bothering to make sense of them.. rose is one..
the only case member who is completely suitable for his role is peter.
Alef (2020)
could have been much better
It seems like its a one man creation ..with the director being the writer as well..it possibly needed more teamwork to make it better
the fact that I fast forward almost half of it..speaks about the problem with the writing ...
the detectives are not real ppl but rather a bunch of cliches.( both are tormented by basically the same thing ! ) except one is young and an outsider ( the english was pretty bad for someone who spent half his life in england tho ) ..and the other one is old.. and very old fashioned
all of what happens for both of them can be predicted before hand..and while the acting is decent ..the characters never invite any interest and that's half of the show
the only interesting part however is the crime itself ..with the marriage between the past and present and the mixture of history and religion ..the way the murders and the clues are researched was interesting and had much more potential than what we actually got ..a better director was needed to make this marriage between past and present a better treat...
finally I have a problem with what seems like an agenda ( the social message and taboos ) to attract attention or awards ( abroad especially ) ...the whole thing ended being more pretentious than authentic ..
my rating really is all about the idea ..being a history buff.
Mine (2021)
gorgeous
The best acting and the best visuals you can get in a kdrama is here ...every scene is a visual feast..
La voz humana (2020)
extremely pretentious
You can tell almodovar loves bold colors ..really loves them.. even if its a killing object ..you have to notice the colors .. OVERALL THIS WAS VERY HARD TO WATCH.. extremely pretentious performance from tilda who I usually like ...and I felt nothing ..the whole thing was theatrical and empty.
Krylya Imperii (2017)
a russian masterpiece
This must be one of the best russian production of this century ...dealing with a controversial topic for the russians concerning the october revolution.. unlike other russian productions of the era , in this drama there are no heroes .. just puppets and victims and those who destroy everything for power.. the story of every nation and of every era..the acting and the direction are superb ...because its daring approach its destined for obscurity
Palmer (2021)
so much sincerity and emotions and chemistry between these two
Since the KID ..films about the bonding between child and adult is always a winner for me..its gives the kind of tenderness we are missing more and more ....and when you see how these two bonding on and off the screen with so much heart.. how can you hate on it like HOW
JT have been a victim of bullying in his childhood..so he knows where the rejected child is coming from..you will hear a lot of cliches and acceptance crap like reviews ..when its done in all sincerity then I will take it with gladness
Unsolved Mysteries: Berkshires UFO (2020)
closed it after 15 minutes
Meh...how many times have we heard this before ...i was going to give them the benefit of the doubt knowing the leaked reports about the military trying these secret UFO like planes which might explain the numerous sightings over the years..but they were lifted ? they were on a ship ? OK ...
Promised (2019)
a cute real life romance
I would have prefered if the couple were more the focus of the film...but I liked the low key tone and the two leads are refreshing... not every culture will understand the concept of ( promised ) but I come from a culture that has arranged marriages ...my fav thing was the first time female lead...what a lovely lady..she looks like a young tina arena.....I will wait to see her in more projects
Si Dios me quita la vida (1995)
one of my fav
One of the more classy and elegant telenovela ... not the crazy over the top usual stuff...a mature passionate love story and César Évora is so damn underrated with his charm and good looks and talent.. its a shame they never allowed him to really shine except here
Les héritières (2008)
a good shakespearean soap opera
King Lear with some changes and a different ending ... good acting and I wish I saw more of the young couple interactions
Riviera (2017)
an upgrade on the rich and filthy vintage soap operas
No matter how flawed and chaotic it is ... it is one of those few shows that actually shows you wealth..also give me a feeling of nostalgia cause it reminds me of the soap operas of the 90s ..... it is all so lavish and the locations are to die for ........
I got attached to the Clios family to each and every one of them and the actors really brought them to life ... and even though it all went down the hill in season 2 .. it is still one of my fav wealthy families on TV...in my book it is much better than famous shows >>>>revenge... gossip girl and the OC all of which were unwatchable for me
Aurélien (2003)
a lovely adaptation of a masterpiece
I have seen the film before reading the book , so I credit this adaptation for presenting me with this book which since have become one of my fav....Aurélien is
a difficult and too big of a book to adapt and with the low budget I think theyve done reasonably well ...but its the actors and the brilliant soundtrack is what really makes this a little gem, Romane Bohringer seems to have been born to play Bérénice...the ending have been romanticized and changed from the book which is a good thing and a bad thing in the same time .
Les Thibault (2003)
flat and not true to the book
this is a very disappointing adaptation of the great 8 part book that left me cold , it lacks the spirit and the passion of the book , and since they have changed many things the relationships are nothing like the book like the one between jack and jenny for ex , the are actually kind of well chosen in most parts so its a pity they chose to change the script .
God's Gift: 14 Days (2014)
a bold Korean drama
if you follow Korean dramas you would know that they are pretty much a
fan girl service stuff and they rarely try anything outside the box when they do they usually flop and that's exactly the case in this
show...a psychological thriller that with some improvements in the script could be a good movie
Lee Bo young who is probably the most underrated Korean actress gives her all as a grieving paranoid mother who will do anything and everything for her child and her performance is so realistic and heartbreaking ... the male lead is also solid as the shady detective who keeps you guessing all the way ...the acting and the interesting idea and solid production makes you forgive the obvious holes in the script and the way the writer treated the characters the ending upset about 95% of the fans but viewed objectively its a logical ending but should been done more proficiently but again thats what happens when you have to shoot the drama live. 10 for acting and ambition
Subat (2012)
the Turkish beauty and the beast
I was looking forward to this Turkish remake of the class TV show beauty and the beast I did not know what to expect since the original is almost to copy but so far after watching 13 episodes I can say that it is am interesting remake of course the setting story and characters like the original is very fictional and has nothing to do with reality unlike the original the hero is not a beast but rather a disfigured homeless naive guy living in Istanbul tunnels he is fascinated by a rich TV presenter their meeting starts a chain of unpredictable events
the acting is top notch the guy playing subat is very convincing but maybe a little too good looking to play a creepy man but whats really outstanding about the show is the director I have never seen a TV show with such excellent cinematic direction at least not in Turkish shows
the show does have flows mostly with the writing its sometimes way over the top and sometimes cheesy but so was the original
overall worth checking out by fans of the original
