Kuolleet lehdet (2023)
On emptiness
Hm. Okay, I think I know it very well how cold Finns can be when it comes to showing emotions. The characters in this movie are lifeless and hollow, giving a hard time for the actors to play them. But unfortunately we cannot even speak about acting as the roles they play do not require anything, but being able to stand silent for long seconds and stare into the distance. Most of the dialogues are out-of-place, unreal and implausible even when we are talking about two overly marginalized shy people. I, personally didn't find any of the moments depicted in the movie joyful, nor funny. The way Finnish people are depicted in this movie is much exaggerated.
Müanyag égbolt (2023)
An overflow of emotions over a proper storyline
I was looking forward to this movie, but surprisingly it appeared to be excessively boring and run-of-the-mill.
The sentiment of the whole storyline is very kitschy, unrefined, while the representation (the drawing) is fairly unique.
I did not manage to comprehend any of the logics of the represented world, it may be my bad. One of the most annoying weaknesses of the movie is - even when it's a sci-fi - that it never ever tried to rely on science and scientific facts.
This movie is more like a personal delirium of the directors with their subjective sense of logic or the lack of it.
I was hoping for some important notes on environmental conservation, but received a gibberish message instead.
Eight for Silver (2021)
Feeble attempt at a CGI-based horror that has nothing to brag about
Nowadays it is getting more and more awkward to use CGI elements in horror. Some visualizations made me laugh. The plot aims to present nothing new, extraordinary or remarkable, it is as linear and calculable as it should not be. The overall performance of the actors are perfectly run-of-the-mill, the characters are dull. The nondescript music leaves nothing behind, which is very sad, as a good score can heavily impact the overall experience.
The setting seems to be quite well-constructed, even though it is high time that we abandoned using those artificial smoke clouds and indistinct whispering effects. The movie is NOT:
- scary
- well-played
- interesting
- extraodinary
- unexpectable.
Minari (2020)
A spectacular display of the USA's influence on the Korean movie industry
After having seen more than a 100 Korean movies I had great expectations. The film is as slow as it should be but reveals nothing interesting. The much-awarded actors play in an unrealistically feeble way to which the child actors are exceptions. The Oscars have never meant a thing, they are awards given by the USA to mostly works made in/by the USA.
This is not a Korean movie, don't expect anything of the well-known high-quality.
The Maid (2020)
Incredibly low-budget trash
Unbelievably lame horror movie, even a 2.0 rating would be too much for it. Storyline is average, visuals are 0/10, sound/effect 0/10. One of the most embarrassing horror movies of all time.
