Zinda (2006)
Some of you must be out of your minds
I haven't had the honor of watching this masterpiece yet but does not feel it is necessary since it's so obvious from a few lines of plot introduction and the general comments. This is an intellectual THEFT. A PLAGIARISM. Not remake. A remake is something you do with consent from the original creator. I wish all criminal and civil punishments possible would be imposed upon these shameless thieves.
People sharing cultural backgrounds with the makers of this garbage, please protect your honor and self-esteem by stopping this crime from being repeated again and again! Don't waste your time in 'rating' this piece of 'art'!

A fight for dignity
Boxing is used in this movie as the main plot, but this is not a Rocky episode and the protagonists do not fight for glory, fame or wealth. The climax match is just for the domestic rookie contest title and even a win would not improve the life of either Kang or Ryu that much. Boxing has long been dying as a professional sports anyway, at least in Korea.
So what these two main characters fight for? They are just trying to regain the minimum dignity as a human being, the last desperate effort to climb up from the deepest bottom of their existence. Therefore, you know, sometimes who wins is not so important.
This film was not a big hit when it was released to Korean theaters, and no wonder it was as the majority of movie consumers are happy youngsters.
Many of them think this is just another tear-jerking melodrama. It is not, I guarantee, but you would not be able to appreciate the real thing unless you have once gone through your own hell in the life. I cried with Ryu at the end of the movie, I felt his sorrow and happiness so real just as they were mine, it was mentally painful.

Isn't it strange?
Until recently this board (or list of comments) was full of posts appreciating and praising many virtues of this movie. Then suddenly some people appeared out of nowhere and started to badmouth Oldboy, and they got many supporting votes.
Now, the natural trend came back and more comments are positive about it, but still they are consistently getting 10-30 negative votes. Who are these people? I mean, who would regularly visit the site for a movie they so hated and keep expressing their disappointments by pressing 'no' button for every single pro-Oldboy comment? I am not trying to say the movie should always get positive feedback. Oldboy is obviously not for everyone, and some people have to dislike it. I'm OK with that. It just looks so unnatural that almost two years after debut the movie suddenly created a well organized - it almost seems that way to me - group of haters who dominated the opinions for more than a month when it has been receiving over 8.5 rating from the average visitors so far. Could there be any reason not disclosed here?
