Evil Eye (2020)
Bad representation of Indians
Yet another tedious movie representing India and Indians as backward and superstitious. This movie would have been OK had it been made 30 years ago. Even the clothes and settings these American made movies show Indians wearing, are 2-3 decades old styles. It's like only Indians do not update. Other than that, the story was utter trash and laughable. The acting of the mother got on my nerves. Others were fine.
Heartstopper (2022)
A show for kids with kids in it
Most of today's shows which show 'kids' are anything but innocent and have adult actors doing adult things only shown to be minors which feels very unauthentic and kind of gives the wrong message to teens on how to really behave. There are things other than sex, alcohol, drugs and partying all the time. This show had bullies, partying, kissing but they were all done in an innocent way, kind of like how you expect kids to behave. The graph of this show was great too. The first episode kind of felt basic and the dialogue was very flat but I'm glad I stuck it out because it only gets better every episode. I also realised that it seemed very school project because how simple they have kept everything and nowadays shows are too dark tangled which is definitely not how reality is but we've kind of started expecting it. The two leads are extremely sweet and their chemistry felt like a real relationship, like how two people who genuinely cared about would behave. What I loved most and which prompted me to give 10 stars to this show was zero toxicity from the main characters. More young people should learn to treat each other with respect. The relationships shown in this were beautiful, be it the parents, siblings or friends. Very recommended.
A través de mi ventana (2022)
Sappy, Cringey, Boring, Flat, Annoying
This movie was utter trash. I had no idea it was based on a book and I had no idea about the storyline. At the beginning, it looked kind of mysterious and I expected some excitement and thrill. But soon I realised that it was just another 'love story'. Now I don't really mind well developed and nicely told love stories too. I have thoroughly enjoyed the genre when well done but this time, it was a big let down. The characters didn't seem to really even talk at all to develop any real chemistry or passion. They probably only liked each other's looks and body. I was also quite uncomfortable with the amount of sex scenes in the movie. A little nudity and intimacy is sometimes required to show emotions and convey physical love but it was just too much. It almost seemed like sexual objectification sometimes.
The dialogues were cringey and the acting even more so. The actors did not look convincing at all, especially the actor playing Ares. I did not even understand the character properly. The storyline is outlandish and weird. Parents asking their children to have as much sex as they want but to not fall in love is really really gross. Is this how people really talk these days?
Overall the movie just didn't sit right with me.
P. S. It's also really really boring.
Anónima (2021)
Couldn't watch for more than 10 mins
I couldn't continue watching it because of the lead actress' expressions. The storyline seemed very cringey and boring too. Decided to give it a skip as it didn't seem to have any redeeming quality to it.
Brazen (2022)
It was like a child's play
The acting was horrible. The direction was pathetic. There was not one intelligent moment in the entire film. The dialogues were laughable. This was one of the worst movies I've watched in years. This was so low production that it should never be released on Netflix. If this is going to be the standard, it's time for me to cancel my subscription.
P. S. I've never watched anything with Alyssa Milano before, but whoever cast her in this role was crazy in the head as watching her in that costume made my head hurt.
Nisser (2021)
I wanted everyone to die in this
I wanted the elves to kill the whole family and munch on little Josefine's bones. I would have rated it 10 stars had the elves killed at least one member of the most annoying family ever showed on television. Just a bad series overall. Please skip.
Bali (2021)
Fake ratings
How is this rated so high? Acting, direction was below average. Swapnil Joshi was not bad but the rest of the cast acted like they were in a low budget play. No horror whatsoever. Some of the serious scenes were literally funny and the end was hard to believe. Please skip this one.
The Manor (2021)
Bad even for TV
The story was bad. Acting was more like a school play. The special effects were very DIY. Production war poor. Everything was abysmal.
I'm not sure how this movie has over 3 stars. Skip it.
Intrusion (2021)
What is this movie?
Done a hundred times. Done better each of those times! It's predictable from the beginning. There's absolutely no plot. The police are just a couple of extra actors they had who have no role to play in the actual movie. Freida Pinto can't act. Just the absolute worst thing I've watched in a while.
Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat (1997)
Horrific to even think that such a movie was made
The title is all I have to say about this film. The premise of this movie in itself is appalling so there's no need to further explain how bad it is.
Haseen Dillruba (2021)
Started interesting but went downhill
When a movie starts off well and gets worse, it's just very disappointing. There's lost potential. I didn't know what the movie was about at the beginning but by half time I was almost a 100% sure about how it would end. It just got too predictable. Tapsee's acting could have been better. Vikrant was the only saving grace.
Roohi (2021)
Watching paint dry is more entertaining. P.S. DO NOT CAST VARUN SHARMA EVER!
This movie is bad. It's not funny, not entertaining, there's no story, no message, no drama, no proper ending. Just bad overall. I always find Varun Sharma's face so obnoxious and in this movie I wanted to punch him multiple times. Really can't stand him.
Pai em Dobro (2021)
The worst ever.
I thought the westerners had outgrown this 'hippie' culture and it's association with India. We're not hippies in India. That's our religion. We all have proper jobs and still follow Hinduism. It's our way of life, not something you do because you want to be 'esoteric'. You do whatever it is you want to do but do not throw shade at a country, especially India which has not hurt anyone. Nobody is inviting you here, you better stay where you are. Having said that, the movie was horrible.
Ofrenda a la tormenta (2020)
Gets Nowhere
This film just runs in circles while getting nowhere. They have introduced so many characters who seem primary to the plot but in the end only focus on the main character, Amaiya. She is not bad, but too involved in the case personally. Is it really ok in Spain to have personal/family involvement in a case and still be on it? It's her mother she's looking for, for god's sake!! Also, there's cheating for no apparent reason. Markina honestly is not even charming at all? He seems whiny and needy and when did he fall in love with her? Was there ever a mention of that in the previous series and I missed it? I'm not so sure. The only character I really enjoyed watching was Jonan. Like, I would have been personally ok with the plot is she cheated on her husband with him. But they kill him! And he turns out to be gay which was a cheap try at a surprise factor. The mystery is not central. It's just Amaiya Amaiya Amaiya. We know she's the main character but we're not gonna watch 7+ hours of reel for a soap opera which sells itself as a mystery/mythology thriller? All in all, I'm really not sure what I watched.
Love Sick: The Series (2014)
There is no match to this show!
The cinematography is so beautiful, the way the shots are taken is unmatched. I loved how Siam and relating areas are shown. I love how evening/night scnenes are shot. I lived through these scenes and fell in love with Thailand. I visited Thailand because of this show! Coming to the actual story, it's just wonderful. It's a coming of age story as well as a love story. I wouldn't say it's an lgbtq story because their struggle with falling in love is more complex than the gender. They truly can't help but fall in love and hence the name. They are love sick and that's portrayed beautifully. I adore the chemistry between the two boys. They are so good to each other. No toxocity whatsoever. Pure innocent love and understanding. Many shows have come with the same premise but nothing could compare to the sheer adoration and feelings these characters portrayed towards each other. For me, no show has compared to this. The only other cinema that came close was 'Love Of Siam'. I highly recommend.
Control Z (2020)
Couldn't stand this Sofi girl.
She's supposed to be smart, pretty, attractive, etc. I saw none of those things in her. I'll give her that she appeared to be smart at the beginning of the show and I thought she was this Sherlock like character which will be super interesting to watch. She is the protagonist after all. But nothing was done to expand on that and it just fizzled away. None of the kids had any backstories explained. Why were they the way they were? Hell, what was the deal with Sofi and her dad? Absolutely nothing even about the main character. And romanticizing bullying? Just no!! Why would Luis like Gerry? Let's be real, the guy had nothing going for him on top of a horrible personality with an extremely violent streak. Who even writes these shows?
Just bad, overall.
P.S. am I the only one who was annoyed any time Sofi said anything?
Never Have I Ever (2020)
I couldn't move past the stereotypes.
I know that the show is not all bad but it's time for good projections of a foreign culture. Indians can be conservative but we are an ever evolving society, more so than most cultures. Most Indians are illiterates (facts) and rural (again facts) and so are not exposed to a variety of things. But once we are, we accept it quite well. The resistance to LGBTQ is pretty much non existent in the urban society, women work just as much as the men and get paid the same in India. The opportunities for working women are abound and most of the urban women are career oriented and also encouraged by their families. This is 2020 we are talking about! Then comes a show where an Indian family is getting representation. And within no time the ever loved subject of "arranged marriage" pops up. Like, please be more original. The girl is obviously highly educated. Which family would educate their girl so much, send her to a foreign country and then not let her choose her own husband? Arranged marriages do not mean that the girl has no say! It's just like dating.. We go through many profiles of men/women to find a person who is of similar social standing, education, thoughts, hobbies, etc. The pair go out on dates, if they feel things are good, they may move ahead. There are families who marry their daughters off to men without the daughters' consent but that happening with Kamala is highly unlikely. Plus, the way they portray her as having to serve her husband and be a good wife is so 1950s. Coming from a native Indian person, this show just ticks all stereotypes and gets on my nerves.
Anvatt (2014)
Good scenery but really boring storyline
If you want to watch a movie that has a good haunting but beautiful atmosphere, go for it. But if you're looking for something that thrills you story wise, look elsewhere. In the first half, you get to experience the beauty of the venue chosen and the vintage vibe the director was going for and you feel excited about what's about to unfold. However, the story line is so anticlimactic to the whole build up, that you're heavily disappointed. There are so many unnecessary scenes which take you nowhere. There's not much character development or story development happening throughout the first half. By the time you get to the second half, you're already bored. I personally couldn't get invested in the film at all and didn't feel even slight empathy for the protagonists. All in all, a wasted attempt.
Let It Snow (2019)
Really reaallly boring
Every time you feel like you're getting somewhere with the characters, you are brought to another character's equally boring storyline. It just goes around in circles with maybe more screen time for 2 couples and the rest are just for support with not even slight emotional investment in a single character's story. I didn't understand the point of the movie at all. Like why was it even made? Total waste of time.
Noblemen (2018)
Horrible horrible movie
The movie was as confused as its main character. The plot although aiming for realism was far from it. Everyone has a breaking point even if they're innately bad. I don't think it's a good idea to mix victimisation with psychopathy. I'm utterly horrified by the movie and the way it portrayed humanity. I don't believe humanity can be this shallow, this cold. Even if it is, I don't want to be blatantly exposed to me. I'm scared to bring children into this world if this is what it is like.
Diecisiete (2019)
Beautifully made with a lot of heart
I decided to give this one a try as I have been loving films coming from Spanish cinema. This one just blew me away with how much heart the movie has. I would recommend you to watch the movie without knowing anything about it. Just dive into it and go for a journey along with the characters.
