An American Werewolf in London (1981)
Easy 8/10, if it weren't for the ending.
The practical effects are amazing. Some parts of the story are good, but character development is poor. The support character Jack is way more interesting than main character David. All in all, solid flick except for the ending. It's so sudden and different from the rest of the movie it might as well be a scene copy pasted directly from blues Brothers.
Well, other than the live making scenes, it is appropriate for a kid to view. Watched it with my daughter in grade 3, skipped over the age in appropriate parts. Also watch the behind the scene in you tube, it s amazing how those animetronics are brought to life.
Welcome to the Occult Forest (2022)
That was a FUN ride!
Foe those of you who are familiar to JHorror, this is brought to you by Shiraishi, the legendary director who gave us Noroi, Occult, Cult etc etc. For those who don't, ot doent matter, because you're just about to enter a fun ride!
Like many of his other major works, this is made in found footage style. A woman posted a video recording wherein a mysterious red meteor landed in the forrest near her abode, and shortly after, a presence appeared in her house. The story goes on from there with a colorful gang of motley crew trying to unearth the mystery and to survive in general.
The characters are likable and well casted. The 6 episodes format is easy to ginge on jn one setting. The story is tight, with comic relief and has minimal blood shed because it's made for tv.
It's not frightening, but it's entertaining as hell.
Creepshow: Gray Matter/The House of the Head (2019)
Very uneven: first part is comically bad, the second part is interesting.
The first part is so unbelievably bad that I had to lift my eye brows and growl a few times. But the body horror in thr final review is almost worth it.
The 2nd part is a fun little flick with very minimal blood. I can myself using this to scare some tweens when the kids are at the right age.
Over all, I'd give the show another shot.
Psychic Vision: Jaganrei (1988)
Good movie which sadly didnt age too well: The director of Noroi(the curse) flexing his horror muscle in late 80s!
I was watching it and was impressed that it's made in 1988. It is a solid found footage with sound that comes Noroi. And then I checked the Director and of course its ishii, the same guy. Glad to see him flexing his horror muscle in the 80s!
It is on point when it comes to 80s/90s japanese idol scene and the VHS realist aspect is also well made. I'm giving it a 6/10 since although it has pioneering aspects, from 2021 point of view, some of the elements are a bit dated.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Ensigns of Command (1989)
A good episode displaying the growth of Data as a character.
... but at the end of the day, he's still a mere toaster.
