Tropico de Sangre (2010)
a must-watch to understand the Dominican culture shock..
first of all, bless the Mirabal sisters and every single other person who gave their lives to bring down the absolute TYRANT that Trujillo was; they gave their lives in order to provide a better future for their children and nation.
the acting, every single person, was phenomenal. as a fan of Michelle Rodriguez, I was blown away by her performance as Minerva. while I love her tough chick roles- female power is a great thing to see- this is her best film. she is fantastic in this film. Juan Fernandez as Trujillo was spot-on; a terrifying, disgusting animal of a 'human' and it made me want to shoot him myself (though I said HECK YES as he was killed by Antonio de la Maza!)
a very sad film, you'll cry at the end; I'm sure of it. rest peacefully, those who gave their lives to bring down the tyrant that Trujillo was, and especially the Mirabal sisters; for you died doing what is right.
People of the Forest: The Chimps of Gombe (1988)
Absolutely amazing
If you haven't seen this you are missing out on one of the most significant documentaries of all time. It is truly amazing in that this clearly shows the intelligence and capabilities, including the emotional suffering of these "people". Sad, shocking, hysterically funny with the most unbelievable footage ever captured from the Gombe. An absolute must for every man, woman and child. This was actually taped over the period of nearly twenty years, an outstanding accomplishment of the lives of the chimpanzee and the effect of man and the industrialization of underdeveloped countries. Something that needs to be in your collection, even if you don't have documentaries. Teachers, a must for your science students!
Saw II (2005)
Better than the first
Wherever you go, you'll see a movie that you loved. A sequel will come out, and most of the time, the sequels suck and ruin it for you. But this sequel.. the best I've ever seen. I strongly recommend this movie, as long as you have viewed the first, so the second will be more thrilling. Many of the situations that are used in Saw continue in Saw 2, making it more ironic and shocking for the viewers. Many horror movies attempt to show nothing but bloodshed, but both Saw and Saw 2 take the viewer on an emotional and horrific roller coaster into the minds of each and every character. It is more of a psychological thriller than a bloodbath, but there is definitely blood for all the gore lovers out there. It continues the journey of Jigsaw and his maniacal mind in Saw 2. Here you have a handful of strangers put in a death trap to find their way out. "Oh yes, there will be blood."
The Devil's Rejects (2005)
Overall very good movie, much cleaner that House of 1000 Corpses
House of 1000 Corpses was all about the gore and the violence, but The Devil's Rejects was much more.
This movie didn't have as much killing and gore in it as HO1C, besides the truck and girl incident. Its hard to believe that they were both written by Rob Zombie, because they are almost two totally different films. The acting was incredible and the storyline and plot was brilliant. Nice job, Zombie.
My favorite scene would probably be the beginning when they escaped, although I didn't like that Mama was caught. I wasn't very fond of the end- I was pretty upset that it had to end like it did.
Apart from all that has been said, this movie was a great movie and deserves good reviews. After all, this WAS one, right?
