Me and the Boys (1994)
Great program
I really enjoyed this program. To start with I always thought Madge Sinclair was hot, but the content of the show was refreshing. A widowed father raising his sons with the help of his mother-in-law. The children did the usual children things, but were respectful to the adults. When they acted up there were consequences. It seems that most shows past the "Leave it to Beaver" era allowed the kids to run rough-shod over the adults.
This was a very good program that was cut short too soon. Perhaps it was too good to sustain itself. "Police Squad" was, in my opinion, such a show. It's hard to keep coming up with good, fresh material for an extended period of time.
Underdog (1964)
Simon Bar-Sinister
In heraldry, a coat-of-arms with the "bar sinister" or "bend sinister" indicates a bastard. This isn't the only case of cartoons sliding in somewhat "adult" references.
Dudley Do-Right once chased a villain to a place called "Colderinell" (say is fast). I might not have spelled it right, but the concept is the same.
I'm certain there are many others like it that I didn't catch but hey, I was a kid at the time.
I have to agree with several other reviewers that the cartoons of those days beat the heck out of those seen today. I think cartoons started going downhill when "...and it would have worked if it weren't for those meddling kids" became the tagline.
