Stranded (2013)
Very Entertaining
I really enjoy this series and hope is gets picked up for a second season. I like that the investigating is done by real people and the reactions seem so much more genuine. There are enough differences between the format of this show and other popular Ghost Hunting shows to set it apart.
I had become disillusioned with the current Ghost Hunting shows and stumbled across Stranded, The Dead Files and Ghost Mine, I'm still on the fence with the Dead Files but I highly recommend Ghost Mine.
I do think Josh Gates missed a golden opportunity with Stranded though. He should have called the show 'Dude Run!' and had Harnois narrating ;)
Amber Alert (2012)
This deserves a positive review. I loved this movie.
IMO no movie deserves a comment like 'can i get this hour of my life back'. To make a movie it takes money, dedication and passion and that should be respected no matter the personal opinion of the watcher.
That said, this movie did have some flaws but it was refreshing to watch a movie that had an original story. The story centers around 2 friends and their sighting of a car that they have seen highlighted in an Amber Alert. (being an Aussie I didn't know what an Amber Alert was but thanks to this movie I now do). The friends follow the car for most of the movie eventually facing off with the driver of the car. Although the actions of the friends is not what most of us would do if faced with the same situation it would not have been much of a movie if they simply waited for the cops to do their thing.
It is obvious that the makers of this film wanted to highlight the benefits of the Amber Alert 'system' whilst still keeping watchers entertained and that is exactly what they did. The very final scene is important and ties the story together very well.
I really loved this movie and was glued to the screen the whole way through. It has an intelligent and important message yet is still entertaining. I would recommend it to anyone who has a passion for Found Footage and wants a break from the Paranormal Activity type of FF flick.
Lost Things (2003)
Keeps you thinking once the movie is over
Plot - The plot was better than average and keeps you watching. As an advocate of the found footage genre I enjoyed watching a movie that would usually be filmed in that style but in this case was done normally. The movie also keeps you thinking about it once it is over (and in my case the next day). The end of the movie looked like it suffered slightly in the editing department which I thought added to the mystery. If you like movies with an interesting and slightly different plot, that leaves you thinking about it after wards then this one is worth watching.
Summary - Keeps you interested, good plot and leaves just enough to the imagination which makes you keep thinking but allows you to ultimately work it all out in the end.
Acting - Fairly solid with the exception of one of the male leads who is a bit wooden but it does not affect the watch-ability of the movie.
Location/Cinematography - Loved it. They used the location to their benefit. Camera angles were used along with the sparse location to highlight the mysterious nature of the plot.
Music/Soundtrack - Different and spooky. They did not use sounds to produce scares which was refreshing.
Sex/Violence/Swearing - F word is dropped by characters in times of stress. One small sex scene. Very little violence if any.
