Wonder Woman (2017)
The DC Universe did it again, Masterpiece !!!
Many biased critics and anti-DC give rave reviews to both Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad because they wish this great studio fail.
Now, they watch the film entirely, and see it has a lot of sense... why I said the other two titles ? Because those same people will see that theses movies were awesome just as Waterworld back in the days, but critics have a job to do and it's to call film flop and other good...
Here, Wonder Woman possibly the best superhero film (in any company) since Man of Steel tell you a story, an awesome story to follow with a great lead. Gal Gadot. An Actress/Model people did not have lot of faith in... but I had lot of faith. She was awesome and believable in her role in the Fast and Furious franchise and she can do a lot better. That'S what she prove here. I won't tell any spoiler but it's a perfect film. The main villain is really believeble and the CGI does look good. The effects are awesome. Patty Jenkins (2003 Instant Classic Monster starring Charlize Theron) make the Perfect Wonder Woman we want to see..
Thank you Patty ! If you read this, i give you 10 minutes of standing ovation with applause !
Striking Distance (1993)
Bruce Willis dislikes this movie so much that I give 10 !
No i just don't give 10 because of that, it's no way a classic but a fun entertaining piece of movie...
Bruce Willis tell in an interview that it's his worst film.... well why this and Mercury Rising who are very entertaining and different from his standard roles... maybe because it's different !
Let's see.... Willis must have said that sentence before making: Marauders, Precious Cargo, Extraction, Vice, The Prince , G.I. Joe: Retaliation, A Good Day to Die Hard, The Cold Light of Day, Lay the Favorite, Catch .44, Setup, Cop Out, Surrogates... maybe i forgot some...
In the 90s, Bruce Willis was a king, long before being an has been who can't make a good film anymore and make it because of the pay check... maybe except Red and Death Wish (who is coming soon).
In this film, it's violent, graphic some times, you get sex scenes... not a film for the kids. a real film for adults. and Rowdy Herrington (Road House, 1992 Gladiator) know that. He makes a film he want to watch with his wife or alone and have a good 90 minutes of film without thinking much.
I won't go too much in details, but i'm a big fan of art, style and substance. While, this film has been criticize.... for what ? Being different from the usual action/thriller film we get in theatres ? This feels like the critics has been paid. That's what I say when I see a good film with unfair critic, and see the same similar product made in another company who get 4 star ratings.... and lot of time, it's less good !!
Someone said it in the reviews: There is a original location (Pittsburgh), original occupation for male lead (river patrol), a story with great twists, one of the best car chase scenes ever, a great tugboat takeover scene with a cool shootout and timely humor, great performances by some really good actors: Sarah Jessica, Dennis Farina, Tom Sizemore and Robert Pastorini. There is no reason why anyone would not enjoy this underrated treasure. The music is also great especially the eerie "little Red Riding Hood". I loved the fact that it was set on a river, it is quite original in that regard. Sure Bruce played basically the role as he did in many of his films such as "Die Hard" and "The Last Boy Scout" (both excellent films) but I say if its not broke don't fix it. Pure Movie Gold: "Striking Distance" !!
Sorry bro to copy/paste what you have said about this underrated gem but i'm with you 100% and will continue to like and defend this film! Don't let the bad ratings fool you!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Worst film of the year candidate !
Firstly, the main antagonist is a Marvel character that has been completely changed for this movie. It bears no background similarity to the character in the comics whatsoever. I understand that the Marvel movies are all about making a spin on the comic book story arcs, but this difference was far too large for me to accept.
Whilst watching the movie, I had to ponder whether I had stepped into a Marvel Superhero version of "Fast and Furious". There was a continuous message that family is important and how the protagonists became who they were due to disenfranchised childhoods. Whilst this is a valid point, I do not feel that it belongs in a superhero action movie as it serves no purpose. Worse was when the message contradicted itself when we see Peter Quill betrayed by his Father. The clumsiness of this contradiction did nothing to alleviate the sickly sweet message that the movie was trying to convey. I get that James Gunn is trying to send out a message to the younger generation but I would think that kids go to watch a superhero movie for the action, and will not really appreciate or acknowledge the message that he is driving.
Unlike the first movie, there was a distinct lack of character focus and their abilities. It could easily have been an action movie without superheroes. In fact, the movie seemed to be focused on two characters when it came to showcasing their abilities. One of these had a sequence that was inspired by the Quicksilver scenes in the X-Men movies. The other was extremely underwhelming and was defeated far too incredibly when you consider the differences in age and experiences. None of the characters were interesting with the exception of Nebula and Mantis. However, Pom Klementieff played her role like a stuttering female cyborg that I even thought the role was played by an East Asian actress before I checked the cast members. The actors paid to play the new characters were miscast in my opinion. Sylvester Stallone's performance reminded me of his Judge Dredd and not in a good way.
It was clear that the popular factors in the first movie were taken and overdone in the second movie. Drax was made to look like a dumb fool once again but even more than in the first movie. While the CGI effects were good, the cuteness factor of Baby Groot served only to market the movie to kids and geek girls, and to rake in merchandise profit. There was also constant mention and focus on the cassette mix which was totally unnecessary (again, for merchandise promotion).
With the exception of the very first Iron Man, why do the Marvel movies have to be over- saturated with humor? It's one thing to market the movies to a wider audience but it's totally another thing when it's taken too far, and the humor becomes so boring.
The Fate of the Furious (2017)
The Disappointment of the Furious
How a franchise continue without 50% of his main players ?? Well, money grab eh !!! And the proof here with the worst film of the franchise yet !! Everything has disappear all of sudden. Lack of chemistry, no actual plot ! Add a random villain, Kurt Russell glorified cameos appearances.... lack of Tyrese joke... Vin Diesel doing nothing except playing the tweeter and in a real bad way, he is not convincing every minute of the film ! The Rock Dwayne Johnson acting like a really goofy 320 pounds of steroid freak !! Should tone down in his next films, he looks absolutely ridiculous ! We know he is muscular, he don't need to weight Vin Diesel and Jason Statham combined weight ! The film is a major disappointment compared to the Furious 7 film. Maybe the fact that Paul Walker was such a big deal in theses films don't help for a sequel this soon.... but trust me, it's not good ! The stunts are, the film is not !
Sandy Wexler (2017)
I really don't get the hate ! Lots of awesome Cameos.
Sure, this film is not mean to become a classic. But it's fun for what it is. And it's based on the true story ! I did a few search and it's about real-life talent manager, Sandy Wernick. It is a close friend of Adam Sandler because he work with him on Happy Gilmore, Bulletproof and Wedding Singer... among my top 5 of Sandler's films with Big Daddy and That's my boy. He work as an executive consultant on the popular shows ''Larry Sanders'' and ''ALF''. He also produce the likes of Dana Carvey, most underrated comedian ever.
The way Adam Sandler portray the guy is an homage to him as he work a couple of times with him, not just in 3 movies but after also, and he is doing a good job. The cameos are the best part. And if you watch it with your kids, they may like it as well, as their's not F word and sexual matter. It is a good family movie with a funny stupid guy that people don't trust but they seems to have pity and then work with him and see he is not a bad person at all...
feels like a sarcastic movie at times, and serious at others, may be the reason some did not like it. I suggest you watch it with an open mind maybe on an afternoon. It is not bad.
7.5/10
PS: The forums are closed for this very reason, you watch 10 minutes of a film and b**tch on forums after that, when you will have a real opinion, the forums may be back... maybe not in this life !
Iron Fist (2017)
Marvel and Netflix can still do good things in 2017 !
Don't get me wrong, i'm not a hater of the Marvel Franchise. It's just the way their developing their movies theses days ! Like a Disney movie, with an evil dude getting beat and end credits roll !
Here it is personal. I have seen 5 episodes in a day and fall in love with ''Iron Fist''. Finn Jones stars as Danny Rand, the Iron Fist. I don't know well this nearly 30ish actor but he is very kind, very good in his role. Makes me forget some dull moments in the first episodes. Because some actors really play this like if it's a B movie. Won't say name, but if I don't say your name, there is a problem, a small but he is there... David Denham shines in his role as he is obsessed with the Iron Fist.
The special effects does look good... unlike ''Agents of Shield'', we truly believe in the special effects of the iron fist.... i can't believe AoS cost like 6 times this and looks so fake CGIed... anyway back on the Fist one. Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing looks so hot it's ridiculous. And she is in her role like there is not tomorrow. She can definitely act and show lots of martial arts skills... don't know if it's her but i think so since she moves so smooth and we always see her face.
Scott Buck, the creator give us a wonderful TV series, and i'm glad it's 13 episodes instead of the usual 10, will put the story in place for The Defenders also starring Jessica Jones, Big Luke Cage, Daredevil and Elektra.
John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)
Masterpiece... thank you IMDb, this place is back as the place it used to be !
First off, let me say, yeah it pi** me off that the forums are gone. But when I look at how bad the discussions has become with lots of people giving fake websites full of viruses, i don't miss it one bit. A decade and a half member is telling you this.
''John Wick 2'' starring Keanu Reeves back in the title role, Laurence Fishburne as a great cameo and a whole cast I don't remember the names but can tell you they nail the target on their roles make this movie absolutely fantastic... not for the faint of heart. ''John Wick 2'' give us lots of blood and guts and get over 100 different murders.
The movie is extremely violent, is it a ''Ichi'' 2 ? NO ! it's more of his own genre but if you want to compare, ''The Raid'' movies violence is nearly equal. Well OK The Raid is more graphic but John Wick 2 shines in his violence. If you go see this movie to see The Godfather, you are wrong. If you want to see one of the best action sequels since Aliens, The Raid 2 and Terminator 2, you are at the right place !
We really have good action films theses days, and this genre is so underrated, i'm glad Keanu Reeves continue to be part of it and don't go too soft about it. After all, it's a darn movie !
The dog in this film is more of homage to the first. He is not used a lot, and except at the very end, he is not very physique in his role. At the end, you can see Jonathan Wick being the target of about everybody in the world, and the Pitbull run with him, that's it.
Just one remark about this particular scene, i hope they don't make something big of the pitbull in part 3 because this is the most intelligent and sensible breed of dogs in our world, I will let my children with a pitbull that I know any day compare to a Chihuahua that will make them hate dogs forever.
''John Wick Chapter 3'' is already confirmed and will kick major ASS !
Logan (2017)
Impressing movie !!
Let me start this review by saying the numerous good reviews by either the critics and the real critics in my mind, you, the people sold me.... well last year at the same time, we had Batman vs Superman that in my opinion was so destroyed by critics that us, the normal people, did not want to see it... in fact I saw it and loved it a lot.
So far with the underrated one BvS, let's talk about the best thing Marvel ever done with their current TV series shows on Netflix ''Jessica Jones'', ''Daredevil'', ''Luke Cage'' and currently since yesterday ''Iron Fist''.
''Logan'' stars Hugh Jackman in the returning role but in a much different era, 2029. Sir Patrick Stewart also join the cast as Professor X, the great Stephen Merchant as a older Caliban, we seen him under another actor in ''X-Men Apocalypse'' last year. Boyd Holbrook as the furious Pierce. and an actor I'm happy to see, Richard E. Grant as Dr. Rice. But the one that really shines is Daphne Keen Fernández who portrays Laura, the daughter of Logan/Wolverine.
I won't talk much about the storyline as you will see, it's not entirely new, but for a film like this, it's brilliant. James Mangold make a film part Western part Superhero and the recipe work pretty well... ''The Wolverine'' was kinda disappointing for most, in fact, i did not hate it as it was part of another universe of the Claw man. Here, it is the same case, it's another universe, you can say ''Hors-Serie'' but the film really shines because we know Logan since almost 2 decades of film with Hugh Jackman and it take a really personal and emotional ride.
See it without even reading what worked or what could have worked. It's just pure cinema and I enjoy it a lot.
Collateral Beauty (2016)
Most beautiful film of 2016 !
Avoid the critics, it's at your risks. I had to give up on so many good movies because of their incoherent reviews.
Not to say that I speak the entire truth but I finally watch this film. Had to tell myself, OK I will check this on TV. What a major error. This film is about how we, the humans, react if someone from our family dies. And it's truly the way to do it. And to give hope with all theses great characters. For once, a ''top notch'' list of actors are well used and even if some are not in the films for a long time like Keira Knighley or Naomie Harris, their roles are as important as the rest. Will Smith lead the film but the true leading role is death himself... then love then the time. It's an important film about how we react as a society to this tragic affair.
Love Michael Pena, Helen Mirren and Edward Norton in this as they portray their roles perfectly ! Kate Winslet shines as usual but seems to be more in her element than before.
Don't listen to critics but listen to me... buy tons of Kleenex.
La La Land (2016)
The term overrated has been created for a reason, THIS FILM !
This film starts with a great promise. We follow a musician and an aspiring actress who meet and fall in love in Los Angeles. The film's title is a reference both to a nickname for the city of Los Angeles and to the idiom for being out of touch with reality. But where it fails it all the rest. The movie is well acted no doubt, but the subject, you care less and less. And even if you want to, this film is a 90 minutes romantic comedy that turns out to be 130... even Woody Allen will think it's too much, i want the shorter version. I was bored to death and i'm a huge fan of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone Work... here I try, but can't ! It's just too long !
The Darkness (2016)
Don't tell it's a horror story when it's a darn drama !!!
First let me tell you what was bad in this flick. The kids. They are so bad at acting. I think half of The reason Its bad Its because of them. Truly Not believeble. Second. The whole theme. Awful. Because With Kevin Bacon And radha Mitchell. How can It be bad. Well. It Gets 3 Pts for me For their acting And thats It. Nothing else works. Made by The Guy who did rogue And wolf Creek? But wolf Creek 2 was so bad. I can believe He lose his touch.
Kevin Bacon try hard in this film but with the matter of the subject, even a Matthew McConaughey could not save this film from being this boring. It is not entirely an horror film, if it is, well, Jurassic Park get more horror and it is not pg-13 like this flick. It tries to hard to be something it is not. The ending is a major mess. It could have make a 5 or 6/10 OK film but instead, it is even lower because nothing made sense. Avoid at any costs, even if someone tell you he will pay you to see this ! 1h40 that feels like 3 hrs !
The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016)
What people wanted to see ? A+ Actresses
Josh Hewitt says as the title of his review ''Better than the previous one''. And i definitely agree with him. I go watch that movie on a boring afternoon, in fact, my boss give me some time off, i had work too much. And to celebrate that, i go to the theatre watching Winter's War, the story of The Hunstman from Snow White story... it's a new tale, and not a fairytale this time. It is not really gory or violent but i was impress, the battle sequences were very well done, the comedy factor was also there but not too much and the dwarfs (we got two) were awesome and funny.
As for the acting, all of the cast do a good job... i read many things about this film. Like Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth receive the same amount of money. I'm mad at this because Charlize is in the film for not more than 15-20 minutes while Chris is always on screen physical like the 6'4, 220 pounds beast that he is. Jessica Chastain is the one that shines as she look innocent and not really the main character at first, but Emily Blunt is also another very good and interesting choice in the casting. She is always bringing her A game and she is phenomenal. Both beautiful and talented. It is my dream to see all theses actresses together. Emily Blunt looks so similar to Charlize, and is also tall.
I recommend the film to people who love adventure and fantasy films like Ladyhawke or Red Sonja. But don't take it too seriously and don't have high hopes, you won't be disappointed !
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Batman vs Superman = The Reason IMDb closed boards !
March 2017 UPDATE:
Because this film, Suicide Squad and any DC films... get so many hate by Marvel fans, it must have been truly hell for IMDb moderators. Never in nearly a decade and a half here i have seen so much hate on a movie for no obvious reasons. Zack Snyder release a Ultimate Edition that blow everybody in the world and still, there's hate.... Suicide Squad was a fun, dumb film full of love by the creators but some love to make it look like a giant turkey on theses boards !!! i can tell you, NEVER i have seen hate for movies before. And it was continuing with the new Batman, Justice League, Flash, Wonder Woman... that NO ONE have seen yet !!! For that I am happy IMDb closed the boards, it was full of biased and unnecessary hate... back to the original review ! I did not change a thing !
2016 REVIEW:
I put spoilers alert, but i don't say much, i am much more on the actors, the music and direction of the film.
Now, stop with the non-sense... why I enjoy this film ? When some internet geeks on YouTube tell you in a 45 minutes video not to like this film. Simple. DC is a universe I admire. There's tons of effort and good will in this film. I enjoy Nolan Films, but i'm much more of Tim Burton films and the Gotham TV Series to me respect a lot better the Dark Knight world than Chris Nolan. Who still did a terrific job, no doubts here.
Let's start like this... BEN AFFLECK... AFFLECKMANIA.... Simply ''BEN''. More than 75% of comments were negatives when they announce him as the new Bruce Wayne... who will have you prefer ? Daniel Craig... George Clooney back ? There can be other good candidates but to me Ben Affleck is more effective in the sense that he aged... he still looks good and he damn sure give the best performance yet as The Batman.
Henry Cavill, the Superman ! The most underrated actor to me, of all times. He is never giving up on the role and it pays now. He really is The Superman, Clark Kent as well. When i see him with his goofy glasses, i laugh for a while. He know what he had in front of him and he is not gonna lose it to someone else. I won't be surprised to see Cavill doing a lot of films and even more than ''The Icon'' Christopher (RIP) Reeves.
Gal Gadot as Diana Prince,Wonder Woman does a good job with what she have on paper. She is not the center of the film but she is really important. And it will helps when she get her film. She reminds me of Catherine Zeta-Jones in Entrapment, as sexy and as mysterious as she is. Don't get me wrong, i'm not telling you she is the new Meryl Streep but she is a good action actress and make believable the role she gets.
Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. At first i was not sure. He is one of my less favourite actor of the whole film. He end giving one of the best performances of all time, easily the #1 Lex Luthor... he is crazy, psychopath and he will go in a great direction with the next few films. Eisenberg is officially Luthor. I can compare it to Danny DeVito in Batman Returns. Very good performance and believable !
Supporting cast is A+... Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams, Tao Okamoto, Holly Hunter. I have nothing to say about them, they are amazing every time they are on screen. Quick cameo by ''The Comedian'' Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Wayne's Father, i dig it !
Zack Snyder, your director... with the experience he got with Man of Steel and if you like it, you know what you're ready for. HE is very talented to tell a story. Many did not like his approach ? I like it. He don't waste time, sure when it's needed we see long dialogues, but I was never bored.
I think what many dislike of this film is the lack of comedy act. Here, you won't have 1 hour of comedy skit, 1 hour of war against robots and 30 minutes of romance... no it's a pure superhero against superhero hate with lots of flashback (that were needed) and cool villain.
THE CAMEOS... Aquaman, Flash, Cyborg... they all look good and will have their single movies as well if they don't screw up productions... the way Wonder Woman discovered them was fascinating. Like some detective film.
The Score... the very intelligent score by Hans Zimmer (Dark Knight Trilogy) and Junkie XL (Deadpool). i have been listening to the score before and after seeing the film, and it's even better after. My favourite themes are ''Is She with you'' aka Wonder Woman theme... ''This is my World'' that is also used a little bit in Man of Steel. ''Men are still good (Batman Suite)'' is also pretty good listening.
I saw the film in Ultra AVX D-Box 3D... yup it cost me over 20$ for the ticket. I would never never experience a film as complete as this one. The 3D is pretty cool, i'm not a fan of 3D films but in the first 10 minutes of the film, i already say to my friends ''Hey proper use of the3D, huh!'' which they respond ''F*** yeah !!!''
The running time of the film may seem to be long, 155 minutes, but i would have taken 180 anytime with that kind of directing.
The Boy (2016)
Watchable... but forgettable. watch Housebound instead.
Many people have already spoken... and I had to watch the film before saying something... I saw Housebound during Christmas... i saw this tonight... my first thought.. Housebound except the character is a killer... with a doll mask... so how he can eat ? this movie is a little bit stupid... if you watch Housebound, the guy steal food and was about to survive and no one knows he was there... There's a great mystery with the doll sometimes but it sounds obvious where they are going since there's no ghost or doll that moves... To me The Boy is a disappointment, i like the main actress and that was about it... the scares are rare and not really effectives. i was bored a little, still the end is kinda cool... it seems like it's what people did not like, and it's what i like... wait for the DVD or blu-ray or better on TV for free because i'm glad i just spent 5 pennys to see this... at the regular price of 12,50$ i would have been rubbed.
The Rewrite (2014)
The best Hugh Grant film i've ever seen + not a happy ending.
First i must say i am not the biggest fan of Hugh Grant acting. I find him good in Love, Actually... Nothing Hill and recently in The Man from U.N.C.L.E... what i have to say is that we finally have a serious actor here. An actor that seems to love what he is doing again. Like the old days when he start in the UKs.
This movie is all about art, literature but explain not in a boring way but in a smart and funny way. Our protagonist, Hugh Grant is a loner, alcoholic, he is divorced and has not spoke to his son since a year.
Here, he start by developing a romance with a young student about 20 years old (yeah he is really 50+) but really he don't look like a 50 years old man. I had to check here in IMDb because i was thinking he was like 43-44. So, his romance start and secretly, but soon many will knows and it won't help our ''anti-hero''.
He need that ''kick in the arse'' to get back on track on his life, and he start to enjoy what he is doing. I love where they go with that film and i also love the non-happy ending Hollywood like to give to us. Sure, it is more of an independent film but it is very professional and i'm impressed also by the acting of Marisa Tomei and J.K. Simmons. Recommended.
Krampus (2015)
The film you did not know you need to see this year ! Krampus !
Listen, i don't know a lot about Michael Dougherty other than he made ''Trick R Treat'' a good fantasy-horror film divided in three stories, and it was done in a great way that it makes Tales from the Crypt look like something written by a child.
Here, 2015 surprise of the year to me with ''The Guest'' and ''The Gift'' this year, is ''Krampus''. I did not know that this movie will be that good. In fact, i go watch the movie in theatres with little to no excitement. I love Christmas and horror, but the mix of the two is very strange so i don't know. But at the end, i was... oh my god give us sequels Dougherty !!!!
Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner and the always great and underrated Conchata Ferrell (Two and a Half Men) stars in this horror-comedy-suspense-fantasy film you did not know you have to seen this year ! It's a tale about a boy who has a bad Christmas ends up accidentally summoning a Christmas demon to his family home. Like the IMDb short story says. But the fun start at the beginning with the Black Friday extravaganza and all theses over the top people that we do remember in our own family or neighbours... then you meet this family lead by Collette and Scott, two talented actors who make a good couple together. Colette is as usual very funny in her way and do all the things a ''perfect'' family will do to impress... and when that family comes, lead by David Koechner, the fun never stop... it looks like Home Alone, Christmas Vacation at parts and Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday The 13th at other times...
when i read the budget at around 15 Millions i could not believe... because there's ton of great effects and lots of imagination...
that movie is nearly perfect, there's a little part i was bored but it's about 5 minutes in the whole 100 minutes films. watch it ! You won't regret !
The Peanuts Movie (2015)
I must say, i cried every minutes, it's fantastic !
Living this experience was fabulous. Every character of my favorite childhood show is back to life. It's like living your childhood for 90 minutes again.
Snoop(y) is as usual, the show stealer.. .Woodstock makes me laugh every time he appears and I should say he had a better role than the past movies.
Charlie Brown, how can you not like him. He makes a lot of mistakes and want to be the absolute best. In this movie, there's a new character, The Little Red-Haired Girl AKA Frieda, Charlie loved her but cannot even speak to her, and it's funny in every ways...
I waited 3 weeks before seeing this film in theaters, i should not have wait a minute. It's a perfect film for the whole family.
The Night Before (2015)
Best use of a Kanye West song, and Michael Shannon best role yet ?
I saw this movie on a Sunday afternoon and I was happy to choose that film. It's a Christmas comedy that sounds like a film with all the cliché. But no ! Instead it turn out to be a very original Christmas over the top comedy film with three buddies who reunite during that time of the year to have fun, party and do all the funny thing during Christmas, new year's eve time.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen and Anthony Mackie star in this film and it must be a first to me, i did not hate any of them. Levitt laugh of himself in the very first seconds as an elf in an hotel and he really got it. Seth Rogen maybe at his best in a while, because yeah he is the stoner but also at the edge of a new life... a daddy. But the funniest thing is that his wife give him a gift (and it's full drugs) haha. HE looks and act like he really did eat, smoke, etc.. theses things.
Anthony Mackie is good as usual but he may be the underrated one here as he really show his comedic skills without being too cocky even if his character his, he stay the most human most of the time.
BUT, what really impress me in that movie is thoses two things...
1- Michael Shannon, i thought it was a cameo but he end being in the film at least 25 minutes and stole every line of the film.
2- Kanye West song at the beginning in that toy store, imagine the movie BIG with Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia scene, it's that scene but with our three main characters, it really give a good tone to the film, awesome song !
Also, it's a huge homage to the Home Alone films. Which is something i really enjoy because it is made in a funny and not to overshadow the 1990 5 star classic film starring Joe Pesci, John Heard, Catherine O'Hara, Daniel Stern and Macaulay Culkin.
The Guest (2014)
6.7/10 only ????
The Guest is one hell of a ride.
How to describe all of this ? Drama, Action, Comedy, Horror, Thriller...
You cannot say it's either one of them, it's all of them at once.
Dan Stevens (Downtown Abbey), Maïka Monroe (It Follow), Sheila Kelley (L.A. Law), the excellent and underrated Leland Orser (Taken trilogy) as the daddy all star in this amazing film directed by the talented Adam Wingard (You're Next).
The idea is as you read on this site: ''A soldier introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence.'' But how all of this happen is just... wow too much amazing. You have to seen this to believe it ! I did not at first.
I have seen two underrated film this week, this and Heist starring Robert DeNiro and Jeffrey Dean Morgan and i can tell you one thing, both are awesome in their own ways !
We Are Your Friends (2015)
Underrated
I saw many comments telling it is killing the DJ Scene... in fact it's not true. Not as much as films about hard rock star who only look like junkies who cannot play music without the help of poison (drugs, alcohol, smoke, etc...), in fact this film is good for that reason, It's real life. Just comes out with a good song, get to know the good people and your career start ! Also, in this film you see that theses DJ are the new rockstars, they can put on a lot of a show, and the good ones, know their music.
Zac Efron stars in this film with the criminally underrated Wes Bentley (American Beauty, American Horror Story). and they both make for a good pair. You also have the chick with the big boobs, i don't remember her name but i can tell you one thing. Max Joseph from the show Catfish direct a good movie that should be seen for what it is... a film about what the DJ scene is all about and how to become that ultimate star. Cool cameo by a few DJ like Nicky Romero and Alesso... i also suspect that the guy Wes Bentley represent is Deadmau5 who did not come with a good hit in over 10 years and still believe he is the big thing because he is on every big show, even if his performances are horrible to worse !
Heist (2015)
Just plain dumb fun (and good acting)
I read many reviewers or people in the board trying to say it's a bad film... ignore them. It's 95 minutes of pure dumb fun. But in a good and entertaining way. The acting from all the cast is good. Robert DeNiro screen time may not be as much as i would like to (i would say 15-20 minutes) but he is good every minutes of it.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan as your main actor is very good, he is not doing a bad job at all. This is by no mean a small budget, approx 22 millions. and they got a cool main villain in Dave Bautista (Batista to all of us WWE Wrestling Fans). To me, he is better as an actor than a wrestler and he found his niche. He is convincing and act crazy most of the time because his character goes from a guy wanting to do an heist to a guy that want them all to die. He is good in this.
Gina Carino is not my favorite, i loved her in Haywire but that's about it. Here, she is OK in her role, the fact is that the director seems to know how to put on a complete film even if it's not the most intelligent so far.
I have seen two underrated film this week, this and The Guest and i can tell you one thing, both are awesome in their own ways ! 9/10 may be too much but for an action thriller, it deserve that.
The Last Witch Hunter (2015)
Vin Diesel... please retire !
I am not a hater at all.. in fact i love him in Furious, Riddick and in Knockaround Guys... but in this film, truly, there is no magic in his performance. He is atrocious... the guy worth 20 MIL every movie but he is still among the worst actors in Hollywood... Here, the rest of the cast is pretty bad too. Elijah Wood now a B league actor who cannot save a big movie even if Vin Diesel is the main actor is also a reason why this movie does not work. To whoever choose the final casting, please retire with Vinnie as well. Breck Eisner who direct an OK adventure flick ''Sahara'' and a cool horror remake ''The Crazies'' is not doing well here... if he makes a film every 5 years or so, let's pray this his is last one. I was more entertain in 2011 ''Season of the Witch'' starring Nicolas Cage and at least it was not serious. It is the problem here, it is taken too seriously and it start average to mediocre.
Avoid at any costs !! Does not even worth a download in my book.
Knock Knock (2015)
Not bad film. Great acting and not so predictable.
I have read everything about this film from ''This'' to ''that'' to ''Keanu Reeves character should be this or that, or more brilliant''... well he is a guy that let 2 chick enter his house. Sure, he want to help them but he want them out as soon as possible. He got a wife and 2 kids. Then, the drama begin, would you sleep with 2 beautiful women that never stop to tease you without thinking seriously about the consequences... Eli Roth think about this. Not just the aftermath, but what theses womens can do to your life and control your life in a way that you will want to cut your ''in-between'' for what will happen next.
In ''Knock Knock'' many answers will be respond. It is not the best film ever but it is a breath of fresh air. The acting is good, i'm digging Eli's wife, Lorenza Izzo, she is more talented that ''B'' flick usual chick and that other actress is terrific as well. A film with barely 3 actors for 100 minutes and being a film entertaining and not as predictable as you will think, is fine with me ! This movie should not be bash the way some users did.
Minions (2015)
The most disappointing film of the year !
I had high expectations with this one being a huge fan of the ''Despicable me'' saga. This one is truly not the film I expect. Sure the minions are cute, funny... for the 1/3 of the film... then it became another film with the pointless and not-funny at all human. The Minions stayed in some scenes but feel pointless or out of context most of the time. This film feels like it has been make for the big money. The storyline is boring. When the kids had fun for 30 min and then all of sudden it turn into a giant mess that some check their cellphones or other finally go to the bathroom break for that boring moment in the movie... but when they came back, it was still boring. I can not imagine someone accept this final script. Hope their will never be a sequel to this giant mess of a film. The minions are much cuter in the Despicable me films.
The Green Inferno (2013)
Most underrated horror film of the past year !
People jump way too much on Eli Roth. The guy is bringing what the horror bring to us for the past 3 or 4 decades. And he innovates some great ideas. He is in by no means a genius but still a talented director. This film must have been hard to make, specially with a tribe that never watch a single flick (if you read IMDb trivia, Eli made them watch Cannibal Hollocaust and they laugh and think it was a comedy).
According to the storyline, there no cannibal tribe anymore, but when that tribe is in danger because the government want to destroy their home, they are in beast mode and kill every stranger and in not so funny way. They torture them, dismembered them. Not one of the murders are the same which is something I like a lot. Their are clichés too, but that actress, Lorenza Izzo show she can act. I saw her in Aftershocks (2012) she was OK but still bland. But in this film, she really show how good of an actress she is. Sure, she is Eli's girlfriend but she is in no way a terrible actress from a Giallo of Dario Argento (that i like but the actress were dumb). That actress could be a good choice for an adventure flick ala Tomb Raider.
Watch this film for what it is, you have a lot of gore in the 2nd half of the film and I enjoy it.
