Blue Beetle (2023)
Would have been a good movie 10 years ago
Blue beetle follows the tried and tested formula that Marvel pioneered over 10 years ago now. And that's the problem. This is basically the first Iron Man movie with the one dimensional villain wanting to replicate the technology for her own gains.
I enjoyed watching the leads and would like to see them in more movies. The family had their moments though the humor was a bit too much for me.
Given it we made at the end of the DCU it's easy to see how there just wanted to get it released. The digital effects were a bit cartoony in some places but overall weren't too bad.
The movie was predictable, enjoyable but if you haven't seen it, watch IronMan instead.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
First 3 episodes and.... Nothing.
I just don't get Disney's plans here. It's taken 3 episodes for anything mildly interesting to happen and even then it's just one short scene which is only a teaser.
As a super hero show, there is very little heroing happening.
As a legal show it's too simple and virtually no investigating actually happens.
As a comedy it's not funny.
We really don't know a huge amount about the main character except she single, a lawyer and a Hulk (for some reason the door has to keep reminding us she's a Hulk like we keep forgetting)
I think the first episode was the best mainly because there was a fight scene. But it was not really good. (Update I enjoyed episode 8 more)
Seems to be following the like of Ms Marvel. Take the slow route and then wait until the last few episodes to actually do something. But by then I'll be over it.
Episode 4 and still not moving the plot along.
The last episode - there is nothing to say but how underwhelming was it.
The Great Wall (2016)
No thinking required
I decided to watch this because I felt like a non thinking movie. And I got exactly what I wanted.
The plot is as simple as they come. Monsters are trying to get to the city and only the great wall can stop them.
The action scenes are fine but too much use of slow motion drags the scenes. And the use of subtitles while someone also translates actually makes it hard to follow. One of the other please.
Matt Damon and Pedro Pascal try their best but I struggle to get past Damon's accent.
The ending, which is meant to be intense and insurmountable end up being third times a charm (when you see the scene you'll know what I mean.)
Win the Week (2021)
Fun twist on the game show
I enjoy this show. Like most quiz shows The contestants just answer questions to get the highest score to win. Celebrities are matched with contestants to help them win
But there is a catch. During the show the contestants can press the buzzer and swap celebrities to try to get the'brainier' celebrity.
It really feels like everyone on the show is having a good time and winning is just a bonus. Swapping teams adds to the fun and the celebrities play along. Not too serious but a nice way to pass time.
A good Aussie show where we can make fun of ourselves.
Not much more to say about it but I have to get to 600 characters. Almost there.
Me Time (2022)
Not many laughs
There weren't many laughs in the whole movie.
These types of movies have been done before where the plot is very light on and the filler is just slapstick comedy. But most of the "comedy" is just crude jokes, vandalism or random acts. A lot of the jokes are lazy like where Hart throws out the people from the party and as soon as the last ones fine he released a huge fart only to find there is one partygoer still there. It's not funny or earned and just takes up time.
They try to make the ending sincere but it just feels flat.
The actors do try their best (you know what you're going to get from Hart and Wahlberg) but there is so little for them to work with.
That's Amor (2022)
Follows the basic romantic storyline but nice to watch
I enjoyed it. It's not a complicated movie and follows the basic romance storyline.
The main conflicts of the movie are quickly and easily moved passed and they could have spent more time with the will they won't they but at the end it's a heart warming movie.
The two leads have great chemistry together and I hope to see them in more movies.
The mother plays the character well (she is definitely typecast but is good at what she does). This is the same for his family also (the cooking classes seemed really fun).
Not sure what else to say but it's a nice movie to watch with your significant other.
