Babel (2006)
Good but .....
The time line was put together in a very interesting way making the movie unique. The acting from the main cast was good for what their roles were.
However there were many unexplained and unneeded scenes involving sexual behavior with minors (nothing illegal) but would make most people I know uncomfortable.
My main disappointment is that the end wraps up each area of the time line but only kind of tells you what happened leaving many questions. The wrap up felt rushed and cut short.
I watched this film on Netflix and used the subtitles as there is English, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, and ASL,
May December (2023)
Was waiting for something
The story and idea of the drama and what could happen had places to go and depth it could have gone into.
The storyline, to presentation, the sets, the actors were all done poorly. The two main actresses have done amazing work and didn't do terrible in these roles. It was just that their roles had nothing.
A very slow build up with little to no information. Little hints of either more emotion, changed emotion, changed circumstances and that there is going to be something else. Then nothing!
It's slow, dialogue quiet, left up to your imagination and left wanting it to finish. I don't recommend this movie.
The Factory (2012)
Was unsure at first
If you like a cat and mouse game type movie and looking for something with a new twist this is a movie that will meet your needs.
The story is a little slow at the beginning but it keeps you wanting to know the next step.
There are some great blindsides that will get you.
The acting was basic follow the script, not bad but nothing special. The movie has many scenes that are at night so a darker screen. Just making it harder to see the movie if you're in a bright room or watching during the day.
I loved what they did and it caught me by surprise and made me want to tell everyone... guess you'll have to watch to know what scene I'm referring to.
The Mole (2022)
Love It!
This was an exciting and dun for our whole family (ages 12-46).
The games make me want to host a party for an exit room or murder mystery.
It keeps you guessing and second guessing your own thoughts on who you think is the mole.
With twists and shocking turns of events it keeps you wanting more.
We hope that this continues into a second season.
I would want to play both roles. As just playing to win is exciting but to be the mole would be a fun challenge.
If you want a show with fun games but also focus on those games not the social aspect before and after the games this is a good choice.
Haunting of the Queen Mary (2023)
Storylines and beauty
If this movie was made with just the past storyline portrayed it could be great. The mixing of the 2 time periods is a great idea but the present time story is confusing and hard to follow.
The costume and make up teams did an amazing job. The cinematography is amazing. Also the actors in the past do an excellent job with their roles creating a feeling of atmosphere and making you want to know more. The actors in the present didn't do bad they just had a terrible script and nothing to work with.
Like many of the other below 5 rated reviews, I agree. This movie could have been way better had it not left you guessing what actually happened in the present storyline.
On a Wing and a Prayer (2023)
What's with all the Negative
This movie has a great story that takes you with them on the real journey that happened to a family.
Was it the best movie out there no but it keeps you engaged and has some twists, that did happen, that make this even more of a miracle flight.
If you enjoy movies based on true stories and a miracle saves them type then you will probably like this movie.
As for all the negative reviews I read it sounds mostly like those reviewers expect every movie to be made with special effects and high quality everything. Someone said it needed more (based on a true story there isn't more) and someone said it needed less action. It's a guy flying a plane any less action and it's just a guy standing by a plane..
Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)
Sad I have to give this a 6
I gave this movie a six because it would not be fair for the rest of the actors and everyone involved in trying their best to make this movie great and doing amazing and then Kristen Stewart ruins the whole movie.
I've read many of the comments and agree with them.
The Huntsman: Winter's War has Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth in the same roles and that movie is 50 times better. In all areas, storyline, character building, acting, everything.
I watched this movie because it was portrayed really well and for Charlize, Chris, Sam among others but someone who can act and give emotion should have been cast for Snow White.
Oldboy (2013)
Why a 2
The 2 is because the known actors played their roles really well. I love them in many movies they have been apart of.
The negative eight was for the writers lack of effort into detail and making a challenging hunt. And the very ending was a way to finish without having to write anything.
The filming was ok but there were many scenes that didn't need the camera attached to the actor for that view of them while they wonder.
But most of all the end was disgusting with a severely sick turn that didn't need to happen.
This movie should not have been made. I would say skip it and watch something else.
Locked In (2023)
Slow and Seemingly Predictable
If you like a what happened or who did it stories this is up your alley.
It wasn't a bad story but nothing new for this type of genre.
There are some okay plot twists as the story plays out. There could have been more in many areas.
*********** My thoughts on why *****************
The actors came across as emotionless and boring after a while. As well they seemed bored of the film themselves. Not sure if this is due to poor acting or bad directing, probably a bit of both.
I don't regret watching this movie it kept me intrigued until the end. However I most likely will never watch it again.
Allegiant (2016)
Mixed Review
This movie series is a great set with mystery action and sci-if twist. The actors in these movies did well for the roles and scrips they were given to work with. If you liked hunger games and the maze runner but looking for something new this is your series.
Some things read that Allegiant is part 1 - they may have been planning a part 2 but the trilogy end with no loose ends.
Now the mixed part - I've read the books. You can't compare a movie to a book expecting it to be exact. However I don't understand why the movie industry changes key parts of the book for the screen for no reason. Most of the time it actually makes for a bad change.
Overall for this movie series (because I know the full story) Divergent did Farley well, Insurgent and Allegiant did ok but with rushed scenes and information and chunks of what could have made the movie great missing or altered.
Cascade (2023)
Very Disappointed
Right from the start the acting is terrible. The scenes are choppy with parts missing to finish what is happening. There's just enough info for you to know what's going on.
1 scene spoiler ********
Everything is overly predictable and unrealistic. Early on they are driving through the forest maybe going 40 because you can't go faster without having car issues that low to the ground. A truck comes from another road where they meet at the Y and they are both in the same direction. The truck hits the back end of the car. In real life would create a bit of forward whiplash and the car to continue driving with the truck in pursuit. However in the movie they show the actors being through around sideways like they are rolling down a hill. The passenger door won't open even though it was never touched and the passenger has a broken shin bone (even if they rolled down the hill and the car was crushed his legs wouldn't be touched (I know I was in a car that did that as the passenger)). Then the girl ties a strip of material on the broken bone sticking out of his leg and he says "that hurts" really ?
Now we find out that the driver of the truck is dead and both vehicles are undrivable. Again really since when has anyone driving maybe 50 k and rear ending someone die with a bleeding head and the vehicle has no damage but is now dead.
********
I'm very disappointed that this is a Canadian film. Couldn't even watch past half the movie my teenager even said it was terrible.
Bridgerton (2020)
My Love and Confusion
I really enjoyed this series. I thought that the settings and costumes were perfect for the settings. It is it's own little world with some awesome changes. It is not based on our historical world and characters are not based on who they were in our real history.
The acting was great and they did really well for the scripts they were given. In season 1 especially Rege-Jean Page (the Duke).
If you're looking for a romantic drama (with risqué scenes) this is for you.
However I just found that it is based off a book series and read the Duke and I. Which season 1 is loosely based on.
I know the writers couldn't focus only on 2 people to make a series worth watching and some of the things they changed or added did really well. But They screwed up on the whole love story and how the characters are supposed to interact with one another and their feelings. I was very disappointed as I feel like the writes failed completely on delivering what could have been a better outcome.
Read the books!!
Having Read all the books and Queen Charlotte I am confused as to why the writers of this series are screwing up the story and massively skipping parts. Like Book 3 and spilling beans in series 2 that doesn't happen till a decade later.
Stowaway (2021)
For writers reference
I doubt that anyone from the actual film industry reads these reviews but just in case...
First of all the movie is called Stowaway. Whoever wrote this movie needs a dictionary because the title is not accurate for what is written.
A stowaway is someone who hides on a ship, airplane, etc., in order to travel without paying or being seen. They have a motive or reason for mowing there and not wanting to be discovered.
This character is found unconscious and injured in an area that should not have a person. So it seems more like someone was hiding evidence but even if he was a stowaway and just got injured on the departure from earth there is nothing said to justify either scenario. Not to mention that even the "stowaway" doesn't has questions about why he's there or say anything which adds to him being an actual stowaway but we do t find out anything.
The whole movie is based on a person that they crew and everyone on earth in charge just go huh odd he's here ok let's go to Mars together and not ask questions or find out who he is and if the crew are safe.
Then shoot we don't have enough supplies, obviously because we need something to cause drama. Which gives us a long drawn out slow process of nothing and finally a need crew member gets some much need supplies makes it back but then just sits there a sacrifices herself for no reason (Maybe there is but it's not explained).
Then the movie is over... where's the story? Who is this person? How did he get there? Why does no one question him on what he remembers or how he got there?
This could have been way better. The actors weren't bad they just weren't given anything to work with.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
Strictly based off this movie
My whole family, ages 11 - 45, enjoyed this movie. I know of DND but had never played it so I can't compare to the game and don't think it would be fair to do so.
You don't have to know DND to watch this movie.
There is a good story line that has twists and good humor throughout the whole movie.
I think all the main actors delivered really well for their roles. Each bringing a little of themselves as we know them and still brining the characters to life.
My favorite part is...... I don't know there's too many fun scenes to choose from.
Great adventure comedy for the whole family (preteen and up).
I Think We're Alone Now (2018)
Not sure how to rate this film
I ended up giving it a four because there's not much to rate. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and feel disappointed in the ending.
The actors I believe delivered well for what they were given to work with.
There is so much lacking. I feel like someone was reading a book and kept skipping chapters. But at the same time you are waiting for something to happen.
There could have been something really great done with this movie without going over the top. Still keeping it with its theme and draw to the unknown they have you pulled into.
It did keep me interested with anticipation of what happened, what's to come, where do they go from here etc but then the movie ends with no explanations or ending.
We Have a Ghost (2023)
Why I rated it a 6
The main story of the ghost was fun, and emotional.
David Harbour did an amazing job bringing character and feeling to this role without saying a word. He's the best pet of the whole movie.
Tog Notaro and Anthony Mackie did great for their roles as well projecting what was written for them.
There is a range of genres including action, comedy and some drama. Over all the movie was fun and my family enjoyed it (11 - 45 yrs old)
However I don't think I'd watch this movie again due to the many added garbage scenes that dragged the movie down. If you take out the Ghost and his story the rest of the movie is useless.
The rest of the actors did good at there roles written for the it's the writers that wrote a bad script. There could have been so much more done with this story.
Writers and directors need to stop making comedies into stupid exaggerated garbage. A Dad stubbing his toe and cursing can be funny - him rolling on the ground howling and crying for help is trash.
Life on the Line (2015)
A must see at least once
The movie overall as a movie was decent. The acting was good, the footage and music were great when put together. My rating of 8 was due to the emotion I felt, the respect and knowledge I gained and that wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for those actors and the storyline.
This isn't a movie you'd watch over and over again but the heart and feeling behind it is amazing. I think everyone should know what lineman do and this movie opened my eyes. Next time the power goes out I'll light some candles and send out a be safe.
This is a movie that reminds people what we take for granted and builds respect and appreciation for those workers.
All the reviews from people complaining about clichés and the simple basics of the movie didn't look at the fact that these are real people's lives. And probably didn't even see the parts shown in the credits.
Matilda: The Musical (2022)
Old mixed with new
This is a fun mix of the originals Matilda and Annie. Emma Thompson is amazing. The other actors are fun and do a great job on their part but Emma makes the whole movie. Applause to the make up artists you did an amazing job!
There are classic moments and keep to the original story but a few added bits that make the movie that much more fun.
My kids and I feel there is a little too much singing even for a musical. But if you are looking for a fun family movie this is it.
My husband would never admit to liking this movie but he kept being drawn back to see what was happening and just happened to eat lunch near the tv lol.
The Menu (2022)
Brief thoughts
Take into consideration I only watched half of this movie.
The only thing it had going for it was the couple of known actors.
There is no explanations of who people are or how they came by this place. It's in a rush to get to the gore and there is still no story.
The script is terrible, the tone is terrible, and there's no acting.
How did this even go to theatres?
If Chef Ramsey went insane and stoped swearing then opened his own restaurant. But it's still a bad tv show.
If you are looking for a what happens with a twist type movie watch the Glass Onion. It's not a 10 but it's surpasses this in every way.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
This doesn't deserve a 1
This is the worst movie ever and 23 years later I still believe this. With all the stupid hype of this movie everyone crawled to the theatre to watch. I went with a group of friends about 10 of us.
We all hated it and everyone said it was a waste of money. I was the only one that demanded my money back as this wasn't worth money.
It's not scary there's no story - if you want to see this movie take a home video came turn it on then run around the forest with a friend randomly calling out or screaming. Then watch it get a little annoyed because you can't see anything but branches hitting your face.
Willow (2022)
From a lover of the original movie
I am enjoying this series. There are great character inserts that help keep it exciting. So far I'm still interested in watching because I want to see the out come and because I love Warwick Davies and Willow.
The series could be better - example not sure if it's the actors or the writing but the little love interests between various characters are not convincing and have not made me excited for them to finally get together. They seem forced and there is no actual Interest just words.
The New Age music is not needed. If anything it's making it worse because I'm watching a show that has taken me to another land and time with their world and suddenly I'm listing to upbeat songs from our world. They don't match.
I hope this series keeps going but go back to its roots and make me want the characters to succeed, fall in love, feel anger, etc so far it's just dialogue. Some of the actors even look confused as opposed to the feelings they should be showing with what they are saying.
Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)
Is this a movie you want to watch?
I gave this movie a 6 because I enjoyed it and didn't lose interest. It kept my attention and you want to see the out come and what happens to the characters.
I think all the actors did a great job for their parts and the script given to them. The writers did not finish their job.
The only thing I was disappointed in was that I feel like writers didn't finish the story. There was a lot more that could have happened to make it more engaging.
If you need details and every loose end tied up to enjoy a movie this one isn't for you. If you like a suspense with survive or die this will work for you.
Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)
Disappointed but....
If your family is young and have not seen HP1 this could get by as a fun kids movie. My kids were asking why is was so lacking in many areas having seen the HP1.
Our beloved Sanderson sisters were great the actresses delivered what was given to them. The writers should be ashamed they had an opportunity to do something great but basically redid HP1 with no emotional connection to characters and bad song and dance that comes out of nowhere.
"The 1st part of the movie I'm sure was a parents video tape of their child's school play." That's a quote from 2 14 year olds.
My 11 year old has seen HP1 and kept asking obvious questions like why did they do that again? Is that character supposed to be the one from the 1st one? Why is the house in the middle of town? Was the cat supposed to do something?
My 16 year old said "it was rushed an idea was there but the make up, writing, acting and directing was very very sad." She is in film acting, drama and visual arts.
Disney please stop rushing out remakes of beloved movies and fire the writers for this one they didn't use their brains to come up with anything they just copied and pasted the original but left out the humor, character building, storyline, and added questionable scenes, characters, and questionable cliff hangers. They were there in 1993 so why would they be confused about a store or many other things ... don't want to spoil anything.
Underwater (2020)
Not worth the time
There are some actors in her that have done good work (not the main actress) the directing and delivery of the script were boring and overly predictable. If you haven't seen much action or thriller type movies this might keep you entertained.
The writers took 2 movies that did well and combined them (don't want to spoil) so it doesn't even feel like a new movie.
There was enough info to make the characters relatable the only thing I could think of every time I saw their faces is what else they had been in.
It ended up being background noise while I scanned paperwork into the computer. Also my 14 year old thought this was boring.
The Craigslist Killer (2011)
Only continued watching to know what the out come was
The acting, directing, and presentation are terrible. There is no emotion or connection to the characters.
If you want to know about the story look up the facts online - black and white, no story, no reasoning, no sound, no feelings.
I don't even feel sorry for the people involved because this was done so bad. There are many people in the movie that they spent time on developing into ... nothing they just disappear.
This movie script was a teenagers 1st try at a scary story. (I only say teenager because they haven't experienced enough in life yet to know what to write).
Now I want to watch another movie so I don't feel like I've wasted my movie night.
