Dark Matter (2024)
Dark Matter: A Promising Premise, A Drawn-Out Delivery
Dark Matter: A Promising Premise, A Drawn-Out Delivery
Dark Matter initially captivated me with its intriguing premise of parallel worlds and the exploration of a self-divided protagonist. The concept of encountering alternate versions of oneself is a fascinating one, and the series seemed poised to delve deep into the complexities of identity and existence. However, as the episodes progressed, I found myself increasingly lost in the labyrinth of realities the show presented.
The series' central conceit, the infinite number of doors representing countless alternate universes, became its own undoing. While initially intriguing, the endless possibilities eventually felt overwhelming. It seemed as if every episode introduced a new door, a new world, and a new iteration of the protagonist. This constant shifting of realities left me feeling disoriented and unable to fully connect with any particular storyline.
What began as a thought-provoking exploration of quantum physics and the multiverse devolved into a convoluted narrative that stretched credibility. While the series attempted to maintain a sense of mystery, the constant introduction of new characters and plot twists ultimately served to confuse rather than intrigue. The pacing also suffered, as the show seemed to linger on certain plot points while rushing through others.
One of the most frustrating aspects of Dark Matter was the lack of focus. With so many potential storylines to explore, the series struggled to maintain a coherent narrative arc. It felt as though the writers were more interested in world-building than character development, and as a result, the characters often fell flat.
The show's ambitious scope is undoubtedly admirable, but its execution left much to be desired. While the concept of parallel universes is a rich one, Dark Matter failed to do it justice. The series could have benefited from a more focused approach, with a smaller number of storylines and a clearer sense of direction.
I understand that the creators of Dark Matter were aiming for a sense of wonder and mystery, but I believe that they sacrificed clarity and character development in the process. While the series may appeal to fans of complex sci-fi, I found myself longing for a more straightforward narrative.
In conclusion, Dark Matter is a series that shows promise but ultimately fails to deliver on its potential. The concept of parallel worlds is a fascinating one, but the execution is flawed. If you're looking for a thought-provoking science fiction series, I would recommend exploring other options.
Liebes Kind (2023)
Fast Forward please!!!
I'm at episode 4 when writing this. So far I find the show 'okay'. The problem is that it is taking to slow. It reminds me of The Handmaid's Tale sometimes. The storyline takes forever to go from one scene to the other. I want to reach for the remote but my wife is watching with me.
Acting is so-so. Acting of the characters like the female steetcop is terrible. I've got 4 episodes to go. I do want to continue watching because I have come this far. But I hope the writers have some surprises for me in stock. But again, it is sooooo slow. I don't understand the 10/10 or 9/10 ratings. It is okay but not EXCELLENT.
They could have told the story in 5-6 episodes.
The Split (2018)
Season 3 I'm out
Enjoyed the first season and made it thru the second. Now I'm at S03E03 and I'm about to give up. I liked the storyline of the first season with our Dutch Barry Atsma. But what is the storyline of S3? It's flimsy the most.
Bosch: Legacy (2022)
Oh yeah!!!
I'm so glad this show got a reboot.
After watching the first episode I'm hooked again. It was either this or start from scratch at the first season. Thank you IMDB for taking the fans serious. Kudos to you.
Summer characters are not on this show. But maybe in the following episodes or season?
Pieces of Her (2022)
Very slow
I'm at the third episode and things are starting to make sense. Sort of.
I find this show very slow. They could have told the story in less than 5 episodes. The storyline is confusing. Sometimes I'm thinking "how did she end up there?".
Viewpoint (2021)
Not bad at all
The first two episodes it went nowhere. But from the third the storyline picked up for me.
As always, they could have told the story in less episodes.
But it wasn't bad at all.
Alfa (2020)
Can we speed it up a little?
Overall an "okay' show. I love to visit Denmark and have studied a little Danish so every 'dansk tv-serier' is on my radar.
This show has great potential. But somehow it didn't work for me.
It is extremely slow. It contains of 8 episodes but they could have filmed it in 4 or 5.
Succession (2018)
What's the deal?
I've made it to the third season. But they've lost me. The only thing the characters do is curse at each other. What's the storyline this season? The first season was great. The second 'okay'.
Stay Close (2021)
Could have done it in 6 episodes
I find the show entertaining although they could have told the story in 4-5 episodes. The only time I wanted to stop watching was when Ken and Barbie did their dance act. It felt like a musical.
I loved James Nesbitt in Cold Feet but in shows like this not so much.
The Wonder Years (2021)
Don't compare it to the original show
I've seen two episodes so far and I like it. Perhaps they shouldn't have named it the wonder years because people will compare it to the original wonder years.
Mare of Easttown: Miss Lady Hawk Herself (2021)
Boring
I started this show because it has excellent reviews.
Was I watching another show?
Nothing happens in the first 40 minutes.
Actually it was kinda boring.
Soulmates (2020)
Can't really say what happens next
I started watching the first episode and soon after I was selfdiagnosed with the "shaking-cameraman-syndrome". I already suffer from chronic dizziness in real life so this was no help. Who on earth is teaching people that this is something people want to watch? I like the idea behind the storyline, but I can't watch it.
Does anyone know if they changed camera-techniques later on in the season?
Perhaps they should add a warning at the beginning of the show like they do when there are flashing images and people with epilepsy should decide for themselves if they want to watch or not?
Devs (2020)
I gave up
Halfway into the second episode I gave up. I have to admit, the scenery is nice. But the I found it to be boring. A lot of talking.
Tommy (2020)
Not that bad!
After seeing the first two episodes I've read the reviews. I don't understand the bad reviews. Sure it is not a GREAT copshow, but it is fun and entertaining. Too bad they cancelled the show. Was fun while it lasted.
Trust Me (2017)
4-2= a lot faster
Never saw season 1. So jumped right in at season 2. Looked promising, but boy... was it slow.
They could have told the story in two episodes.
Line of Duty (2012)
Awesome
I was able to find all seasons on different streaming platforms. And I haven't regretted it at all.
Such a great show. By the time you have the storyline figured out there is a twist. Currently on season 5. Every first episode Hastings, Arnott and Fleming walk in to the screen I get a feeling of coming home.
The Victim (2019)
Camera work got me dizzy
Slow pace. Why 4 episodes? Could have done this in 3 maximum. Sometimes the camera work is very shaky.
Big Little Lies (2017)
Amazing!
The first two episodes got me thinking if I wanted to continue watching. But I'm so glad I did. What a great show. Funny at times and so very California.
I can't wait for season 3.
Collateral (2018)
What's up with the MP and the vicar?
I was really looking forward for this serie. When it showed up on my NETFLIX account I was finally able to watch it.
It's a bit thin. I don't understand the storyline of the MP and the vicar.
They could have easily left it out as it really didn't add to the story and plot.
