Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Hegemony (2023)
Offputting writing and directing.
Dialogue, odd facial expressions, angles, close to zero tactical awareness (common sense) of the landingparty, and the Erica Ortega-character simping in this episode did the character a huge disservice. ¨Whats this? Thats the debris-field. Really? Cant we use the debris-field? Thats brilliant, Erica!¨
NO ITS NOT! Anyone with half a brain could come up with that...
Then, judging by her face she snorted a pound of coke just before piloting the shuttle down to the planet.
Also, ive seen already dead and buried redshirts with more tactical awareness than this landingparty.
It reminded me of having to sit through a school-play.
A few bright spots, but i was glad when it was over.
Oh, its a 2-parter? Damn!
Kelly's Heroes (1970)
An oldie that never gets old. Am i too biased?
This movies was made 5 years before i was born, and by the time I first saw it the movies was going on 20... Ive been a fan ever since.
Im sure it has its flaws, but its either so well made, or im just too big of a fan that i cant think of any from the top of my head.
Maybe certain characters/actors* could have done with more screentime?
It has a proper plot and enough suspense for a serious war/heist-movie, a cast thats no less impressive as that of ¨the dirty dozen¨ or ¨the eagle has landed¨, but this one´s fun on top of all that!
*A 2+hrs movie centered around just Oddball (Sutherland) and his crew sounds like a winner to me. :)
Legion: Chapter 1 (2017)
Marvel yes, but Superhero?
Hmmm... OK: That was surprisingly different from what I was expecting!
For the most part, this 1st episode reminded me more of shows like "Fringe", or "Heroes", than any of the current Marvel/DC series. Apart from a couple of scenes at the very end, there's little in the way of action/violence, but a lot of substance in the way of building up of mostly the main character in in this 1st episode, helped by solid acting, cinematography, and, at certain moments more than other, the soundtrack. Yes, the main character might very well be the most powerful mutant on the planet, but he's far from being any kind of hero, like the main characters on any of those other shows... Going by what I saw in the last few scenes I could be wrong, but it seems unlikely this show will turn into one of those shows where they save a damsel in distress, the city, or planet earth every episode. Based on the 1st 45 minutes of this episode, it looks like this show has going to have quite a bit more depth to it. I sincerely hope this keeps up!
Camp WWE (2016)
I wanna go home!
The first episode of this "cartoon for adults", masterminded by Robot Chicken's Seth Green, was a bit of a letdown for me. There's some good, but also some bad. Sadly, the bad is the part that should matter most.
The good: The adults - Rick Flair, Sgt. Slaughter, and even Vince ("A Bra? I can't wear this! Probably?") - were voiced by their real-life counterparts: a huge plus! The animation itself is also quite nice: For the most part it's pretty clear to see who's who, even with the juniors, and i.m.o. The style fits nicely with what this cartoon is trying to be.
The Bad: The episode itself came off pretty lackluster, not that funny, and nonsensical to me! Sure, it had 4 or 5 moments that mildly amused me, but at least twice that had me thinking "this is just plain stupid", most of those involving HHH and Stephanie... I think they completely missed the mark with the HHH-character.
Hope it picks up, because seriously; with the entire WWE-Universe to draw from, Seth&Co should be able to come up with some better jokes and story lines than this!*
*Edit, Oct 2023 - And basically, thats exactly what WWE did shortly after, with WWE: Story Time.
