77 Minutes (2016)
Still watch it
It's clear early on that the guy interviewing was out for the cops blood. I was 13 when this happened. It was SHOCKING because this stuff didn't happen daily like it does now. This was new territory for everyone and if you're a reasonable person, you can understand where the police were coming from. There were a lot of obstacles and let's say they did shoot what they thought was one guy and it was 3? They knew it was bad, but from their vantage point it was really hard to gauge what exactly was going on. There were no security cameras, no cell phones. I understand from the victims point of view too. 77 minutes is an eternity and what they went through was horrific. The whole thing was a debacle, but I feel like the film was trying really hard to create a bigger issue. I will say that not naming the killer once was commendable and I really like listening about the victims from their loved ones. I haven't thought about this story in so many years....but it's honestly not much different from today. The killer actually tried to get mental help and his call wasn't returned. The first officer on the scene essentially had a squirt gun compared to what this guy had. Civilian's don't need these weapons.
Worth watching, but watching this guy interview was infuriating at times.
The Big Bang Theory (2007)
I love BBT!
I wholeheartedly disagree with people who think that earlier seasons without Bernadette and Amy are the best. I think that's when it gets really good. Mayim Bialik as Amy receiving a tiara is one of the best scenes in any sitcom. I laugh harder every time! I think Kaley Cuoco's acting gets so much better as the show goes on. You can tell she studied Jennifer Aniston....lots of similarities (I'm not just saying that, she is a huge Aniston fan) The dynamic of adding relationships made it so much better and kept it interesting. Where would the stories go with Penny and 4 scientists?? I will add...I really wish that Raj had been a gay character and also found love. Some of his romantic scenes are really cringy...it would have been a great storyline for him. I'm watching it right now.....for the millionth time.
La sociedad de la nieve (2023)
Hauntingly triumphant
I was completely focused from the minute it starts until the last bittersweet shot of all of the survivors in the hospital. I say this because if a movie is ok I will check my phone at least once...my heart racing, then breaking on and off. I did have to look away a couple times because, well...if you know you know. It's very thought provoking. My husband and I discussing if we would ever get on an airplane again after such a harrowing experience. The voiceover took a minute to get used to(I would have rather had subtitles) but by the time the plane crashes it really didn't matter either way. A remarkable film.
Christmas Class Reunion (2022)
You had me at Liberty Biberty
I love that the Liberty commercial guy is in this. He's actually very charming and was probably the best actor in this movie. I was a huge Friday Night Lights fan and Aimee Teegarden was really great in it. What this says to me, is that the Hallmark writers need to work a little harder with the dialogue they give. Next year I would love to see the successful girl go back to her hometown...she can still fall in love with the one that got away or whatever....just make the man move to the big city. You wanna know why? City life is AWESOME! And you absolutely should live there if you can. Not everyone wants a life in the suburbs.
Drag Me to Hell (2009)
Really fun to watch
I don't know what I was expecting honestly, but Drag Me To Hell was a really fun, not too gory for the sake of gory, movie. There were great jump scares and it doesn't take itself too seriously. I wish Alison Lohman would come out of retirement. Everything that I've seen her in, I have liked. She's the perfect choice for a sweet, empathetic woman who completely goes against everything she stands for to try to get promoted. Realizing, of course, she's made a horrible mistake. Good chemistry with her and Justin Long. If you're looking for a horror film to put on your Halloween playlist, definitely watch this one!
Baby Driver (2017)
Pleasantly surprised that I love this movie
Fun movie, great music! I don't normally love car chases and loud shoot outs, (just a bunch of filler in a mediocre movie) but I really like this film. In addition to cool car chases there is actually a really great story to back it up. Ansel Elgort is perfectly cast. A guy named Baby, who has a cute baby face, whose a badass behind the wheel. Really great chemistry with him and Lily James. Two lost souls find each other. Jamie Foxx is amazing per usual, but the characters that are so put off with Baby was a little over the top.... I mean, he's been driving for the top guy (Kevin Spacey, solid performance) for years. It started to annoy me. I would absolutely recommend this movie if you want something fun with a little substance.
Nightmare Next Door (2011)
One and done
The only reason I watched one episode all the way through is because I wanted to know who murdered a young girl. Narrating things like the killer "didn't get what he wanted" or something to that effect, is so revolting and disrespectful. How did this show make it past one season? The narrator should be on Nickelodeon not on a show as heavy as this. I feel so bad for the family members who saw this...on top of losing a beloved family members, having these morons desecrate their memory. There is no way this show scores a 7....there are so many people involved in making a show like this and not one person said "this seems disrespectful"????
Meet Cute (2022)
Much better than the low score it has
With such a low score, I wasn't expecting much of this film, but quickly realized the score is way too low. If you're giving a low score based on expectations, I don't think that's fair. I don't think this movie promised to be anything, Ron-com, drama or whatever. Its actually a movie about mental illness by way of time travel....obviously fictional, but used in a way to understand the protagonist's reasons behind her manic and emotional behavior. Trying to live one good day over and over and avoiding moving onto the next in fear of losing that feeling. Then realizing that that one day over and over eventually isn't enough. It wasn't a perfect movie, but I thought it was well acted and thought provoking. I recommend. Also, Kaley Cuoco is really killing it at the moment. Watch her in the Flight Attendant if you can.
I'll Cry Tomorrow (1955)
Susan Hayward gave everything
Susan Hayward's performance was really amazing. When I think of movies from the 50's I think of the way women were taught to act with that weird inflection. This was raw and gritty and real. She was a woman trying to survive with, then eventually conquering her alcoholism. I still don't know a lot about Lillian Roth, but this performance made me root for her then cheer for her. At her worst you could feel the desperation and understand the horrors of it. I would recommend this movie to anyone, especially if you're dealing with pain that you feel will never go away. It might just help a little.
High Society (1956)
Watch The Philadelphia Story instead.
I'm sorry, but it is not enough to have the stellar talent of Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby to keep this stinker afloat. Had I seen this before The Philadelphia Story (which was a play turned into a movie that helped Katherine Hepburn's waning career) I might have enjoyed it more....but I couldn't help constantly comparing it. Grace Kelly and Bing Crosby are completely unbelievable as a couple. And I mean no offense, but it will come out as such. Bing Crosby is no Cary Grant. Grant is as dreamy and charming as they come....and Crosby is kind enough of a dud with an amazing voice comparatively. Frank Sinatra feels like he would have been a better Dex, but as I understand he wanted the same role that won Jimmy Stewart his Oscar. (Stewart was amazing as Macaulay Connor)All in all, I think this movie would have worked as it's own independent plot loosely based on The Philadelphia Story. The one shining moment for me was Louis Armstrong sing the title song in the beginning of the movie...a catchy tune that easily can become an ear worm🎶😝
M3GAN (2022)
M3GAN is a DOLL
The people involved with creating M3gans look were really thoughtful with it. From her creepy eyes, to her dress with the big bow, all the details are perfection. The actress voicing her does a great job with making it dolllike and creepy all at once. And the young girl in the doll suit did a great job at being robotic with the exception of the iconic dance before killing the big boss. Was the movie the best horror movie ever? No. But it was a lot of fun! The acting was great, the story was solid, it could have gone further, but they stopped short of that making it an enjoyable hour and a half long movie (unlike most these days) and it did exactly what movies should do. ENTERTAIN. Why does everything need to be dissected and discussed. Let's just enjoy this movie for what it is...silly and fun to watch. I loved it and I can't wait for the next one!
The Grinch (2018)
I liked it, but....
This was a really cute movie, but it was so different from the original they should have just made their own original Christmas movie. I loved Whoville...so cute and colorful. I loved the chubby reindeer.... I wish he would have been around for the whole movie...again, they missed an opportunity to make this an original screenplay. When I saw that Benedict Cumberbatch was the lead, I was all about it, but he doesn't sound "grinchy" at all. I thought he would have sort of a curmudgeonly British take on the grinch, but he had pleasant American accent. And how did Pharrell get cast as the narrator? Listen, I love his music and think he's a great guy, but he sounds like he's reading a book to a group at the library. It was really distracting for me. If I didn't have the original to compare it to, this would have been a lot better for me. So take my review with a grain of salt...
Noel Next Door (2022)
Nice change
I really enjoyed this one. I'm at a point where I am watching my favorites over and over so giving a new one was a change up. I'm really glad I gave it a shot. It's a love story, of course, but the problems that the leads have are real and believable. The disability from a stroke can be really daunting and at a young age, it's very believable that it would make someone that bitter. Natalie Hall is a very likable actor and did well with this character. I have seen Corey Sevier in other Hallmark xmas movies and this is by far my favorite with him in the lead. Some reviewers say they didn't have chemistry, but I really disagree. I thought the balance of her falling for him without making him feel like a charity case was good. And on the other side, he was bitter about life, but didn't throw a fit when, for example, she took his coat off for him. The son was a brat, but that was the point. Others were annoyed by this....he is also going through tough changes. All in all, I say watch it! A nice break from an event planner ending up with her high school sweetheart 😜
A Christmas Detour (2015)
Ok after 30 minutes
This movie is ok. I've seen it a couple times. Paige is a very annoying character though. I mean beyond annoying. A 30ish year old woman walking around with a "vision board" which looks like something they do to brainstorm in middle school. Then she complains about planes not flying because of weather....when all flights have been cancelled. All because she needs to get home to her awful fiancé...who she constantly brags about. Paige and Dylan have good chemistry and Maxine and Frank are a nice break from Paige's narcissistic personality. Once Paige simmers down a bit the movie is enjoyable. Just need to make it through the first 30minutes or so.
Three Wise Men and a Baby (2022)
A breath of fresh air!
I really hope Paul Campbell and Kimberly Sustad write more screenplays for Hallmark Christmas movies. The story was original as opposed to the same ones we see over and over, it's plausible, the inside of the houses aren't overly decorated (like real life), the acting is good, I love the three main actors, they fit their characters perfectly and their chemistry is great! And to cast Margaret Colin as their mom was a sweet nod, as she was in the original "Three Men and a Baby" movie. The baby was adorable and thank you for not using a fake one for any scenes (that I noticed) I hope this movie starts a shift for Hallmark into taking more chances.
Seinfeld: The Little Kicks (1996)
The BEST episode
Julia Louise Dreyfus is a National Treasure! If this episode is on, I stop what I'm doing to watch. It can make a bad day much better for me. The dance, of course, is ridiculous and over the top, but that's why it works. Of course, Kramer is the one to let Elaine know that she "stinks". And the end scene with George's dad is just as hilarious. If you have a chance to watch the outtakes of that scene, it's even better. The side story of the bootlegging is ok, almost any scenes with Michael Richards are immediately funnier. You will never listen to Shining Star by Earth, Wind and Fire the same way again.
Blonde (2022)
One reason to watch.
All I'm going to say is Ana DeArmas. She was brilliant! I don't know how she got through filming this with her sanity, but if she doesn't get acknowledged for this role, it will be a travesty. The film wasn't all fact, but her performance made me feel for Marilyn Monroe and the horrid things she went through in her life, which I know was complicated and sad. The movie was hard to follow at times and I had to split it up over two days. As a rape survivor myself, I will say there should be a huge trigger warning...this film could set off a myriad of emotions for people who have gone through any type of abuse.
Bus Stop (1956)
Kidnapping is not funny, even in 1956
This movie literally made my stomach churn. The only reason I gave it any stars was because Marilyn Monroe is in it. The cowboy is incredibly annoying. Why give a starring role to a newcomer? He made this unlikeable character even worse. Who thought this was a good idea? It took way too long for people to intervene with this idiot.
Stage Door (1937)
The ladies rule!
This is one of my go to movies. Ginger Rogers and Katharine Hepburn are so great, individually and in their scenes together. The ending is a bit heartbreaking....maybe one of the first "dramedies". I enjoy watching all of these women following their dreams in the face of the status quo.
Valley of the Dolls (1967)
Well....
I have heard so many references from Valley of the Dolls over the years that I finally decided to give it a go on TCM on Demand. Patty Duke's overacting is just so laughable...I will never understand how she was cast in this part. Even if she was amazing (not possible with this writing) she would still be unbelievable as a pill popping superstar. Sharon Tate's acting was forgivable because she was a newcomer and honestly, I just couldn't stop looking at her face when she was on screen. She was incredibly beautiful. Everything else about this film, including the plot, was forgettable. If you want a laugh and want to be in on the joke, watch this film.
The Family Stone (2005)
The fun in dysfunctional
I don't know how people could hate this film. It's not perfect, but it's so interesting and entertaining. Families are crazy and messy in real life and I think they nailed it. The ending will have you ugly crying. I think of this as a Christmas movie, but not one that I can watch over and over. If you think this is a comedy, it's definitely not, but it's worth watching. I love the cast and the story...it's just really good!
Christmas with the Darlings (2020)
10 for a HALLMARK movie
Not the status quo Hallmark movie. A believable plot, no "big misunderstanding" plot twist, likable characters. I really like Katrina Law, she's a doll and I thought the lead's chemistry was fine. It was really enjoyable...and a lesbian side story. Bravo Hallmark...I guarantee you weren't receiving any of your own cards about that subject, but just know that most of us are happy about it!
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
My favorite
I regrettably have not read the books. After reading some of the reviews here, I plan on reading them all then revisiting the movies. That all being said, this is my favorite HP movie. The kids are becoming young adults, there is humor and action and suspense and darkness. Visually beautiful. I just have always loved this one!
2 Broke Girls (2011)
Kat Dennings
I only watched this in syndication because of my love for Kat Dennings. There are waaaaaay too many one liners, like one after another and not clever. The sheer amount of jokes about inscest and moleststion is really gross. My favorite episodes all involved Max's love interest Randy. He was really cool and natural and I honestly would have loved to have seen what their future would have been like after their engagement. Beth Behrs is a beautiful woman, but her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. I apologize if she happens to read this, I really think it was the vehicle of this plot and not her that made it annoying....the first couple episodes she was much more natural.
Chad (2021)
Unpopular opinion
I can't believe all of the hate for this show. I've laughed at every one! Episode 3 is my favorite so far. So cringey...I think Nasim Pedrad does a great job. I feel like this will be a cult favorite. They all start out with terrible reviews it seems. If you're taking it too seriously, you will hate it. I'm just here for the laughs.
