Keeps You Absorbed Until The Very End
Seeing all the bad reviews here, I chose to watch this film with some trepidation.
At the beginning I really liked the view of "countryside" America which is something we in the UK don't often see as it's mainly NYC or Chicago or Los Angeles et cetera. It was great to see a bit of life of the great countryside of America.
The plot was simply superb. I cannot fault the way in which the film panned doubt and the way in which the plot expanded.
Also there were some tremendous characterisation, including the hard-working. Lovely plumber, the villainous baddies and some of the bad goings on in the countryside.
Interwoven was the local police force and the arrival of the FBI. Then a marvellous revelation at the end of the film and I just sat back in amazement.
I don't know why this film has had such bad reviews. I guess we all have our own point of you.
Heart of Stone (2023)
Awful Awful Awful
So, secret agent bedded in secret agent group seeks to help the group get better at defending world order.
Her colleagues continually say " who are you what are you doing" She doesn't know she doesn't know the whole thing is a total mess. I watch this because I didn't have anything else to do, but it's a total garbage layers upon layers of plots we just make it more complicated. No could've just been. Total junk give it 0 out of 10. I just don't know why the makers didn't make what I might call a standard spine spine phone. Instead they chose to make a film riddled with riddles and itself wear. A top spy chief is embedded in a group of spies who continually when they see her chopping up people and shooting left right and centre say who are you How do you learn that total garbage, save your time don't watch this ridiculous bunch of garbage.
Shooters (2001)
So Realistic 9/10 and Defo Worth a Watch
This film shows the gritty side of gangland, as it happens this is in Liverpool. A scene dominated by hard men, drugs esp. Coke and then guns. Everybody's after one....
Clashes between rivals are of course constant.
The difference is the "actors" have to some extent actually "lived the life" and instead of Hollywood scriptwriters, we have real people giving their real thoughts in their own words. Some of the spoken scenes are so original you will not have seen anything like it before.
Later in the film their is an amazing plot twist which had me "On the edge of my seat" when I realised what was going on. An absolute "tour de force"
Please don't miss, very special.

Cantona Great: Rest Total Failure
Had to get through this total garbage after 2 starts previous led to me and partner stooping.
What has early scenes in "caves" got to do with later ones in Parisian settings ?
Halfway thru, 3/4 way thru still no idea what's going on. Hopeless rediculous pointless movie. A great depiction of why the French movie industry is totally lost. 0 out of 10 seriously don't bother. Still watching "The end" more confused than ever but thankfully have "given up" Real Garbage"

The Stranger (2022)
Turned off at 55.39 with 1.02 to go. Rubbish.
This film features bunch of middle aged white blokes mainly with ungroomed beards like Hells A. So, some are policemen or women and some are criminals and some are probably in this film by mistake.
All the guys have these beards and dual personas and after watching this garbage for an hour, I quit to get the next hour back in my life.
I am at a loss to explain how Aussie filmgoers view and keep eulogising this film as it was the most confusing frustrating pile of junk I've ever seen. I don't want to say anything more, awful awful awful.
Just after stopping this garbage, I'm trying To remember what I've just seen. Two guys with beards meet on a bus. Its so bad on IMDb it says this meeting is on an aeroplane.
I don't blame IMDB, no doubt they were left as comatose and stupefied as I was.
I wish I could kind of get into the characters and tell you something about what's going on, but honestly I haven't a clue. There's some old bloke who's had a hard life who is just doddering about the place and some other old bloke who is the detective who is undercover and trying to understand some criminal gang.
Here is a great scene the detectors daughter in the kitchen drops a bottle on the floor from standing on a table, he comes in, shouting out, "whose fault will it be if I cut myself picking up the glass" ...... Then surprise surprise, proceeds to pick up the glass shards with his fingers and guess what? He cuts his fingers, and shouts out "there didn't I tell you?."Hasn't these folks ever heard of a dustpan & brush or don't they have those in Aussie? Numerous other completely silly things happen that are just so ridiculous, macho gangsters constantly up braiding and insulting one another to no end. I had to get out, but I remain a great lover of films stop (good ones that is)
Up in the Air (2009)
Way too long for a simple tale
The basic story is pretty simple. Unattached Male and female who are jetting around the US and the world, enjoying all the benefits of "club class". Meet each other and are attracted. Then comes a whole load of interjected scenarios, like his sister getting married and a dysfunctional family, and Clooney becoming really infatuated with his new girlfriend. Like about an hour too long....
Bajo cero (2021)
On The Edge Of My Seat
This film is a first rate thriller. Bus load of convicts, being transported, a nasty man is after one of the convicts but who ? Why ? The action is fast paced and the direction poised. I wish I could watch something like this every night of the week. For a couple of less 20mins you are taken from your living room to a "Shoot Em Up" drama.
Anything Goes with James English: Ep - 185 - Killing Pablo Escobar - SAS soldier Peter McAleese hired to assassinate the worlds biggest drug Lord (2021)
Not Much Pablo
Pablo himself hardly figures in this film. It's about a bunch of worthy earnest skilled, but aged overweight and senile dopes that hatch a plan to "do away" with PB. Throw in a Glaswegian fighting man as you role model....
Strange Weather (2016)
Don't Miss This One !!!
Given the "Sub 7" overall score, I thought I was taking a chance with this.... Wow, what a knockout this is. I've now watched it twice in 10 days, the second viewing better than the first, as portents missed in the first view, came out in the second. Marvellous acting all round, with assured direction. Humour contrasted with sadness, a free spirit with regimentation. Loneliness and relationships. And betrayal big time.
Can't recommend enough, enjoy.
Seven Pounds (2008)
Without Doubt The Worst Film I've Watched in Decades.
2 hours and 8 minutes into this total mystery we get an inkling of the past which has created this nitemare.
I have the greatest of respect for other reviewers giving 8+ out of 10, but I just don't get it.
A question for you, a lot of reviewers mention being
Mystified by the first part (4/5ths ??) but then that the film "Redeems" or "saves" itself....2.08hours ?? Too late for me pal....
Minor point. Our genius turns up to repair a complex "old world machine" His screwdriver set are still in their new blister pack. That's usual for a mechanic eh?
Watch it, see which camp you fall into....
The Siege (1998)
Chillingly Prophetic, Astonishingly Prescient
The Siege is a truly great film. Even if 9/11 hadn't happened, but then you would probably think, that's crazy....
Denzel, Willis and Bening all deliver top notch performances. If only the director could have imagined another "vehicle". But that's "Impossible". That the twin Towers were in a few brief shots was so eerie.... I didn't detect a hint of racism, this is what was happening, is happening today.
Prisoners (2013)
Repetitive, over long, badly structured
At 2/35 hours/minutes this story about child abduction was at leat .45 mins over long. If I would have seen another tenement building door kicked in, and searched I would have shot myself in sympathy.
Worst thing is the subjects are "out of frame" for the entire film, and the protagonist lurches from nut job drunk to hero and has the same fate at the end, as the subjects.
Love JG but what a stinker.
The Foreigner (2017)
That can't be Pierce Brosnan, or can it ?
I really enjoyed this film which worked on so many levels, and also dealt with a really difficult subject.
All through the film I kept thinking that guy really looks like Pierce, but it can't be him as the Irish accent
is 100% spot on, and the controlled anger and attitude of the character is so on point. As bombs and gunshots, betrayal and violence litter the film.
Then I looked up the cast....
The Smoke (2014)
A really good London based, gangsters movie.
Layer Cake is one of my fav. movies. It's amazing how many of its actors went onto "super stardom".Although this film isn't quite in the same league, I really enjoyed how often the director kept pulling surprises on me, time after time. It became quite absorbing, waiting to see if once again, I had the "wrong end of the stick."
Sure, a few flat sections, but the dramatic scenes more than make up for it. Great views of London too.
Asher (2018)
Understated Blockbuster
Watched this film on TV and was stunned by how good it is. Watched it again 2 times in the following week. Didn't know much about the leading actor, but what a performance! He proceeds through the movie in an amazing, quiet and stoic manner, taking everything that's thrown at him. A dark, deep and deadly film. So pleased I saw it.
