Matriarche (2012)
When Ronin meets Jason Bourne meets The Take
Award winning film, Matriarche is a stunning French packed action short. In less than 10 minutes, the movie gets you from a jail talk between a mother vs her son son to the streets where all the reel fun is taking place : shotguns, wrecked cars, blood and bullets... Better fasten your seat belt for this ride.
I suggest just like I did to check out Guillaume Pierret's previous work, again very cool. A talented director who's actions movies have already won many awards around the world.
That said, the very bad thing about this movie is that it is a ''too short short'' because we'd love more... so can't wait for his feature... For the time being, enjoy Matriarche http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoNu22B2pVk
Je viens (2009)
intriguing and very human being
Characters are alive and kicking... very touching how either a boy (man) or a girl (woman) can react or play with the other one... Whose playing the game, flirty game of life... or girls stronger than men, or smarter, or are men definitively men... The porn director is great, lead actress smashing the place as a porn style who actually is much more human that we, the audience could expect... she has a dark side and his kind of playing hide and seek, with the boy coming for sex, who seemed stronger at first but who will reveal being maybe even more touching than her. As we say 'what would you do if you were in my shoes', well, here this makes sense big time... a great short dealing with human beings, feelings, we.
Katabasis (2011)
A movie for the Heart, the Soul, and Art.
Saw the movie last night in Paris. It deals with the story of a man who escaped (or had to run away) from his 'world' for some reasons and is being welcome by a couple in 'another land ' . At first I thought the movie set place a thousand years ago, then I realized it might have been today, and in the end, my conclusion and interpretation were it happened in two different worlds and yet at the same time in year... I won't go too much into plot & description to not spoil anything, but the film marker meaning's are clear. The film is an experience itself, very visual. I felt it was a smooth epileptic movie, because I had time to follow and understand what was going on, contrary to Gaspar Noe's movie which I love too. The title made me think of the word 'katarsis'
Don't expect to have everything told, you'll have to think, which I did like a lot, because I love when a film maker challenges his audience. There was a Bunuel, Bergman atmosphere going on
so if you enjoy unreal, surreal, impressive, kind of painting work, you should see it and experience it yourself. Editing and cinematography were stunning because of the Greek feeling location, the score is brilliant. More a movie about ideas and visual than for actors who were all very beautiful and used as story teller like in old time.
A must see if you like art.
