Joker: Folie à Deux (2024)
Disaster to a class
The 2019 Joker was a masterpiece. Writing this, I can't believe it's been over five years since its release. But this new film? It's a huge disappointment from the very beginning.
I was initially surprised when I read the reviews-how could it be this bad? But now, I can see exactly why. A musical? Really? Casting Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (Lady Gaga) as Harley Quinn might be the biggest misstep of all. It feels like this casting decision dictated the film's misguided direction.
This movie is an exercise in boredom and frustration. It's painfully disappointing, with hardly anything worthwhile to offer. It feels as though Lady Gaga enjoyed the first Joker film, wanted desperately to be Harley Quinn, and aimed to outdo Margot Robbie. In doing so, however, she's given us this misguided, horror of a film.
If this review seems unclear, unfortunately, watching the movie will make it all too clear.
Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank (2024)
Entertaining
The movie was enjoyable; you don't need to read the entire review. Just grab your snacks and enjoy an entertaining, funny film with a touch of horror. It features strong performances, sharp punchlines, and solid acting.
Rajkummar Rao shines in his comedic element, delivering humor naturally without resorting to exaggerated expressions. While he was impressive in the first part, he's even better in this edition.
Pankaj Tripathi remains the heart of the movie, captivating audiences with his distinctive style and delivery.
Tamannaah Bhatia adds glamour and heat, lighting up the screen with a beautifully executed dance number. She's undoubtedly the standout character, and the song is fantastic.
The addition of other characters like AK and Varun D also worked well.
Overall, it's a great watch and a delightful treat.
The Legend of Maula Jatt (2022)
All time Any Time Every Time
I know I'm years late to watch this movie very, very late but that's the beauty of it. Even though it was released years after it was completed, this magnificent piece of cinema by Bilal Lashari remains as fresh and captivating as ever. If I had watched it in 2030, it would still have felt just as timeless and stunning.
The story is already well-known, so I'll stick to my review style without giving away any spoilers.
For me, the film was all about Hamza Ali Abbasi. The man is simply brilliant and superbly remarkable. The level of performance he delivered was next-level. He's a character you're supposed to hate, yet you can't help but fall in love with him in every scene. His dialogue delivery and facial expressions were priceless, making every moment he was on screen a treat to watch.
Fawad Khan comes second for me, but there's no doubt that no one else could have embodied Maula like he did. Still, I had a slight reservation about some attempts at humor that felt out of place, especially considering the intensity of his character. Those moments, with exaggerated facial expressions, weren't necessary and didn't suit a bloodied warrior.
Humaima Malik was nothing short of bold and viciously impressive. Gohar Rasheed, too, was splendid in his role, pushing the villainous character archetype miles beyond what Shafqat Cheema had previously established.
The only person in the entire film who made little impact was Mahira Khan. Her presence on screen didn't resonate, and her performance lacked the rhythm and intensity that the movie demanded.
In contrast, the shorter roles of Saima Baloch (kudos on those perfectly executed dance steps), Resham, and Babar Ali were more impactful and effective than what Mahira Khan brought to the table.
The movie is indeed violent, but aside from that, it's certainly a cinematic treat and the kind of film I wouldn't mind watching over and over again.
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Wolverine all the way
Yes, it's Wolverine all the way! While the X-Men franchise isn't that old, seeing Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Logan was a nostalgic treat. He will always be the perfect fit for the character.
Though Deadpool finally got a high-profile X-Men character in his movie, it was Wolverine who stole the show. One of the best aspects of the Deadpool movies is the music, the blend of classic oldies with the film is a brilliantly entertaining choice.
As for Ryan Reynolds, there's no room for debate, he's the heart of the film, keeping the energy alive with his humor and superb acting skills.
This is a must-see movie, no matter what!
Khel Khel Mein (2024)
Fantastic
Finally, something good to watch, with just the right mix of tension and humor.
I'm not usually a fan of Indian multi-starrer movies, as they often rely on cheap, vulgar jokes. However, this one was different, the blend, the mixture, the cocktail of elements came together perfectly.
That said, mixing friends with family can often lead to disaster, and the movie revolves around these messy situations, but with plenty of laughs along the way.
Akshay Kumar delivers a solid performance with his signature comic timing, after a series of flops.
This movie is a must-watch for the guys, but a word of advice: watch it alone. And if your significant other has seen it too, maybe clean your phone just in case they get any bright ideas!
The Greatest of All Time (2024)
What was this....
There's bad, then there's worse, and then there's downright awful. But don't worry this movie surpasses all those levels of terrible.
It kicks off by ripping off a scene from Gemini, but since it's a Tamil film, they manage to take it to a whole new level. A sniper is perched on a hill, targeting a train, and stays in the same position for over four minutes (yes, that's how long the scene drags on). I'm not sure which hill offers a panoramic view of the entire planet, but apparently, this one does. I won't even get into the rest of the fight sequence, let's just say they used Instagram or Snapchat filters for the VFX, clearly inspired by Mission Impossible.
The secret room entry is made through what looks like a basic biometric attendance device. At this point, the sheer absurdity of it almost brings tears to your eyes, making you feel ridiculous for even watching this disaster unfold.
The music is terrible, the direction is worse, the storyline is pathetic, and as for the acting... let's not even go there.
They even played Mission Impossible Theme.....
Mr. McMahon (2024)
Be ready for shockers
Where I come from, WWF was a regularly watched program. WCW and other wrestling shows were hardly known, and it was only after the NWO storyline that they gained some recognition. Still, WWF remained the dominant force in this part of the world.
I grew up watching it. The internet came much later, so all the updates and information we got were from TV.
Everyone knew it was scripted, but it was still entertaining. We all tried to mimic the signature moves of the stars at home, one way or another.
However, this series is a real eye-opener, exposing the darker side behind all the glamour. As someone who grew up with this entertainment, I was completely disgusted by what was revealed.
It seems that someone who has had an abusive and traumatic childhood can grow up to be a monster, lashing out at others in any way possible. While there might be a more humane side to McMahon, this series highlights his darker aspects, leaving us with just glimpses of the monster within.
Watch it. I assure you, it will be very surprising.
The Great Indian Kapil Show: South Sensations - NTR, Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor (2024)
Finally some laughs
Kapil Sharma seems to be returning to form, bringing back his classic routines, some genuinely funny jokes, and real laughter in this episode. However, for some reason, Saif Ali Khan was making strange faces and expressions throughout the show. It's unclear whether this was his natural reaction or an issue with the editing.
Kapil started the show with his usual jokes, which are often lame and silly, but that's part of his routine. The segment where he comments on pictures has also made a return, which is a positive addition to the show. Rajiv Thakur was finally given some screen time, which was a good move; interestingly, he ended up having more screen presence in this episode than Kapil did in his movie in 2024.
Wolfs (2024)
The class with a medicore
With Clooney and Pitt leading the cast, expectations naturally run high. However, the movie falls short of what one would anticipate from this iconic duo. The story is dull, and the punchlines lack the spark you'd expect. This makes the film somewhat hard to sit through. Yet, it's the presence of these two stars that keeps you hopeful, expecting their magic and superb chemistry to turn things around and make the movie a delight. But...
It's not terrible for a one-time watch, especially when there's nothing else to see. However, it's certainly not the kind of film you'd revisit. So far, 2024 has been a year of big names and big banners but filled with disappointments, one after another.
The Great Indian Kapil Show: Bonded By Love - Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar, Vedang Raina and Vasan Bala (2024)
Boring
Here's an improved version of your text:
The show was incredibly boring, with outdated jokes and annoying copycat characters. Sunil Grover's appearance as SRK felt completely unplanned and unscripted.
It's clear that the show has lost its charm since moving to Netflix. Nine out of ten jokes fall flat, and most of the characters feel forced and unnecessary.
It seems like the creators don't even watch their own show; otherwise, they would realize that it's anything but funny. Archana Puran Singh appears to be forcing her laughter, and even she seems to be signaling, "What is this?"
A disappointing start to Season 2, following a very mediocre Season 1.
Bad Newz (2024)
Super Bad Newz
Apart from the song "Meri Tauba" at the end, there is nothing interesting, entertaining, or even remotely funny about the movie. The plot, centered on polyandry, is poorly executed and ends in a completely absurd and ridiculous manner. It's simply a few hours of boredom.
Vicky Kaushal does his best, but with such a weak script and bad dialogue, his efforts fall flat. Triptii Dimri's performance is far from impressive, not even reaching a mediocre level. As for Ammy Virk, his role is so forgettable that it's best left unmentioned for the sake of this review.
All in all, Dharma Productions delivers a flat, lifeless movie with a nonsensical story and equally poor execution.
IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack (2024)
For once truth not twisted
For once, a Hindi series is highlighting the correct facts and telling a real story without glorifying it with fabricated details. This show presents how the incompetence of political governments can cause significant damage and how decisions are often driven by political motives rather than the public's best interests.
The series is well-made, with strong visual effects and a solid script. The negative ratings and reviews likely stem from a new mindset that anything not in favor of India cannot be considered true. However, facts and truth remain unchangeable.
The series will keep you engaged until the final episode. It isn't unnecessarily prolonged, avoids irrelevant content, and stays on point from beginning to end.
Do watch it, it's worth your time.
Borderlands (2024)
How to make trash with iconic stars
I was initially drawn to the movie because of its cast-just look at the lineup! It's bound to catch your attention, except for Kevin Hart, whose presence wouldn't have made a difference even if he weren't in the movie.
The film is based on a game, which, thankfully, I wasn't aware of beforehand, and now I'm certain I'll steer clear of it. As for Cate Blanchett, it seems like this role was purely for the money. An actress of her caliber would have easily recognized the shortcomings of the script and where it was heading.
The movie is completely senseless and baseless, filled with childish action and an awful script. It's a total waste of time and money. You're better off avoiding it altogether.
Kalki 2898-AD (2024)
Spectacular
I must say, the start of the movie was not good at all. Prabhas was a disaster in the beginning. I don't know what's up with him after Baahubali; it seems like only SS Rajamouli knows how to bring out the best in him. Then there's Disha Patani, who contributes little beyond a couple of ridiculous jokes and a silly song-that's about it.
However, after the first hour and a half, the real movie begins. The real drama, good action, and the brilliance of Mr. Amitabh Bachchan elevate the film to a whole new level. His presence, stature, class, and delivery are exceptional. From that point on, the movie becomes thrilling and incredibly exciting.
For me, Kalki 2898 AD is all about Mr. Big B.
As for Deepika and the others, their presence is limited. But after Big B, the one I'm most looking forward to is Kamal Haasan, who seriously embodies an evil villain.
Additionally, you'll notice significant inspiration from Hollywood movies, but in the end, it was worth sitting through the 2 hours and 55 minutes.
The Instigators (2024)
One time only
TheThe movie features a splendid cast, with casting ranging from good to excellent. However, the film itself is tasteless and loses its appeal as it progresses.
The humor is slow, often falling flat, and lacking immediacy. Casey Affleck, who also serves as the writer, attempted to weave multiple stories together, but the result is ultimately unsatisfying.
While the casting is exceptional, making it worth watching at least once if you have nothing else to see, don't expect too much from it, as it may leave you disappointed.
As for Hong Chau, I have no words to express my thoughts on her casting.
Fly Me to the Moon (2024)
It is good..........it is .....!!
It's becoming increasingly frustrating on IMDb that good movies often receive low ratings while some less deserving ones get rated surprisingly high.
That said, this movie deserves a solid 7 for several reasons. First, it effectively illustrates how the conspiracy began, allowing viewers to connect the dots and see how a significant achievement was turned into a conspiracy.
Further, Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum are perfectly cast in their roles and they complement each other well on screen. Woody Harrelson and Ray Romano also deliver strong performances, fitting seamlessly into the story.
With few quality films this summer, this one stands out as a must watch. So dont think twice, just watch.
Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba (2024)
Falls short
Yes, the movie fell short; it could have been better with a stronger story and fewer twists. The biggest problem was that, much like the Mastan brothers' style, the movie builds suspense one scene after another, but the audience can easily guess what's coming. The final scene, which hints at a third sequel, was a good twist, just watch the movie to see for yourself.
The movie is definitely a one-time watch, and the best decision by the makers was to include a preview of the first film, refreshing your memory, a smart move.
The cast is generally good, except for Sunny Kaushal, who felt out of place. Another actor in his role might have improved the movie.
Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey, the main leads, continue to showcase their skills, but the not so impressive as storyline leaves the movie lacking excitement.
Still, watch part 1 and then this part 2. It's not bad.
Twisters (2024)
90's was better by a mile
Here's an improved and corrected version of your text:
The 1996 movie Twister, starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton, is far superior to this one in every category. Despite lacking today's technology, the filmmakers back then managed to create a brilliant movie. If you've seen the '96 version, this one will likely be a complete disappointment.
The major flaw of this film is the casting of Glen Powell. He tends to overact and is the same in every role he plays. As for Daisy Edgar-Jones, this was my first time seeing her, and she shows potential. However, the supporting cast and the poorly executed plot didn't do her justice.
As a fan of the 1996 Twister, I found this one to be very average. Watch it only if there's nothing better available.
Indian 2 (2024)
Why? Why this movie was ever made
The 1996 film Indian was never a classic; it was just another movie. However, at the time, Kamal Haasan's makeup for his double role was groundbreaking and made headlines. Yes, they left room for a sequel, and indeed, a much better movie could have been made with today's technology.
But now in 2024, Indian 2 has been released, and the primary question remains: Why on earth was such a horrible movie planned in the first place?
The movie is a complete torture from the very start. The only thing less complicated was Kamal Haasan's makeup, as he has now naturally aged into the role, requiring less effort.
Furthermore, the story became incredibly weak, to the point where it will just make you grind your teeth in frustration.
The wealth displayed is so excessive, even more than that of Tutankhamun, making the movie even more ridiculous to endure. Siddharth and Rakul Preet Singh feel more like special appearances, with performances that are not worth mentioning.
In short, this is a movie that should be deleted from all databases.
Mr. & Mrs. Mahi (2024)
Boring
Yes, it was simply boring. Just when you start to build a small expectation for something good or interesting, the movie pulls you back down to boredom.
The movie is very mediocre with nothing extra to offer. Jhanvi Kapoor continues to make poor script choices, resulting in one terrible movie after another. If she is making anything worthwhile, it's only her reels and nothing beyond that. However, perhaps after working in so many flops, she might eventually learn something for a better performance.
Rajkumar Rao, whose forte is comedy, doesn't bring that to this movie at all. Once again, you will find him with a straight face, merely repeating the mediocre aspects of his performance.
Watch it if you must, but you won't enjoy it.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024)
Bad Boys for life
This franchise transcends all reviews and ratings. Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett are simply legendary characters whose legacy will endure.
I notice that people are more excited about this installment than the last, but to me, both are connected and beautifully crafted. The action scenes are well choreographed, and the chemistry between Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will surely entertain you.
This installment, however, focuses more on Marcus, giving him a more prominent role.
It's a very enjoyable film, featuring the return of some familiar characters and offering great entertainment.
A highly recommended watch.
Crew (2024)
Hotsteppers without heat
The promo, the poster, and the ads all promised some good humor with plenty of glamour. However, the movie failed miserably to meet these expectations.
The story is nothing extraordinary; one can guess the conclusion and almost every next scene. The movie was supposed to be all-out entertainment, but again, it failed on all accounts.
Tabassum Fatima Hashmi, also known as Tabu, one of the industry's most talented actresses, was not impressive with the glamour. Her performance was underwhelming.
Kareena Kapoor Khan, while beautiful, seemed half-hearted in her role. Her unbuttoned look was not helpful, and her comic timing was simply horrible.
Kriti Sanon seemed lost somewhere between the more senior actors.
As for the male cast, Diljit Dosanjh was completely wasted, except for a good song.
Kapil Sharma's appearance was so useless that it felt like he paid the makers of the movie for those few seconds of screen time.
Hillbilly Elegy (2020)
Why the bad ratings
I hadn't heard about this film until I recently learned about it from an FM show. It's based on the book Hillbilly Elegy by J. D. Vance. Though Vance is quite young to write memoirs, he has undoubtedly experienced a lot in his life.
The movie is based on real-life experiences, depicting how a child was raised and survived through a broken family, ultimately overcoming his struggles by making one good choice. It underscores the importance of choices in life, highlighting that life is never easy, always challenging, and will continuously test you. In the end, it's all about how you face and survive these challenges.
Initially, I had no knowledge of this movie, but when I checked the credits, I was impressed. It is directed by Ron Howard and stars Glenn Close and Amy Adams, who deliver powerful performances. Given these credentials, I was surprised by the low ratings. I now understand that perhaps the reviewers simply haven't seen the movie.
Maharaja (2024)
Now this came as a complete WOW
There are movies you least expect to be great, but I should not think that way when it comes to Vijay Sethupathi. He gets better with each movie, always bringing something extraordinary to the screen.
As for this movie, honestly, just watch it without reading any reviews. Someone might spoil the 'X' factor for you, and you'll miss out on the essence of the film.
Yes, you might find yourself stuck at times, feeling the movie is completely out of rhythm and nonsensical. But stick with it until the end; it will completely surprise you.
One of the finest pieces of cinema I've seen this summer. A must-watch.
The Bikeriders (2023)
Did i missed something?
I surely missed something here. A 7.1 rating on IMDb usually indicates a good movie, but I am lost-where was the story in this movie?
Don't be confused by the highly praised reviews. This movie offers a lot, and I do mean a lot. Just look at the cast: two Elvis actors, one making a brief guest appearance, the other remaining mostly silent. And then there's Tom Hardy with the punchline "Fists or Knives." While I loved the punchline, there was nothing more than that.
It had a good topic and an excellent cast, but the movie missed out on a very important element: a story.
Watch it at your own risk. It certainly wasn't for me.
