Kill (2023)
Groundbreaking in Indian cinema
The movie in its own right will become a cult of its own. Don't dismiss this is just an action film. It has great story, great direction, great editing , great cinematography, and ofcourse tremendous action sequences
Such great action that even Hollywood will take a bow.
Innovative brutal gruesome fight sequences.
Also there are some fair amount of surprises that will keep you at the edge of the seat..
Superb casting..everyone has a back story. And bro... Raghav, take a bow.. Man, could have never ever imagined you in such a role. Kudos goes to the director himself, Nagesh, at having such an eye to pick up the gems!
Lakshya is a class man! That booming voice , tall and broad and going nuts to avenge his love.. too good. India got its own John Wick. We surely want more of him..
Tanya was great too ,and everybody who got to share the screentime did amazing job to keep the movie as real as possible.
A great watch. A must watch!
Three of Us (2022)
The smell of nostalgia
This movie is very close to soil. First off amazing job from all the people who aren't visible on the screen.
Simply brilliant job from cinematography, editing, casting, direction etc.
I was obsessing over how every time was the subject was kept in the middle of the frame and many other things.
Then coming to the cast. Seems like you are stannding right with them , participating in the conversations , such is the ease of the actors
The beautiful background scores, the effervescent expressions, the fleeting shots, marvellous!!
Then coming to the elephant in the room.
The story
Boy , after ages finding solace in a story.
The circle of life,we are so busy in the hustle and bustle of life that we tend to forget we who are.
That's what we are dealing with .. dementia!
Laapataa Ladies (2023)
A near perfect movie
I think the success of an art form lies in the fact that it can appeal to each and all, regardless.
There comes a movie, once in a while where you don't need to be a nerd or a movie buff to like a genuinely good set up.
This movie is free flowing , uninterrupted in its own right. It shows a very simple tale where you see life taking it's course in its eventual progression. The characters play very subtle but meaningful roles. And if you look closely, you might even pick up certain deeper meanings left in the hindsight.
"Jagte raho" , a seemingly nonchalant dialogue coming from a guy who has been a Watchman all his life and sleeps with his eyes half closed is an example where the story teller wants us to raise our awareness, keep questioning our general beliefs.
A Death in the Gunj (2016)
A proud and happy moment for lost Indian cinema we used to cherish
Death in the Gunj is a slow-burning psychological drama set in the 1970s that explores family dynamics, repressed emotions, and the consequences of casual cruelty. Directed by acclaimed actress Konkana Sen Sharma in her directorial debut, the film takes place during a extended family trip to the reclusive McCluskiegunj in North India.
The story gradually reveals the fragile psyche of Shutu (Vikrant Massey), the shy and awkward young man at the center of the narrative. As various indignities and callous behavior from his arrogant cousin Nandu (Gulshan Devaiah) and other family members chip away at Shutu's self-esteem, the audience witnesses his incremental unraveling. Vikrant Massey's nuanced performance captures Shutu's vulnerability and inner turmoil with heartbreaking authenticity.
Sen Sharma's unhurried direction allows plenty of space for the complex family tensions to breathe and the little microaggressions to accumulate potent dramatic heft. The period details of 1970s India are finely rendered, while the remote McCluskiegunj setting adds to the claustrophobic atmosphere. Cinematographer Sirsha Ray's camerawork is intimate yet unobtrusive.
What could have been a heavy-handed melodrama instead becomes a delicately observed character study about the casual damage caused by entitlement and toxic masculinity. Death in the Gunj demands patience from viewers, but its poignant portrayal of one young man's tragic undoing lingers long after the final credits roll. Konkana Sen Sharma announces herself as a director to watch with this auspicious debut.
Revolutionary Road (2008)
Marvellous .. touching
I have a vivid memory of watching a movie during my early adolescence that had a significant impact on my life. The movie was so compelling that I couldn't sleep for four consecutive nights after watching it. It made me realize that there is no right or wrong in life, and everything is situational. A couple fights, loves, and sacrifices, and each situation has its own consequences. While people may say that we have choices, it's important to take the time to determine the best attitude toward a situation. The consequences of our actions can be high and dry. Some may argue that the movie was only great because of the incredible performances by actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, but every cast member poured their heart and soul into it.
Kaala Paani (2023)
Overhyped
Overstretched, over dramatic , overacted series
Why not just keep a good story and then decide the characters?
This series is busy building charcter stories by jumping between different timelines to make it look cool.
It's scattered, forcefully trying to convince that the sequences will make some sense eventually.
Again it's a pain to see moral and social issues coming up for no context of the story of its own but just to make sure the audience connect and feel empathetic towards the characters.
I do acknowledge that's it's a bold attempt to bring in a series based upon stories we used to grow upon.
In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones (1989)
Such an amazng amazing movie!
My heart goes out to people who love art this much.
Just imagine the era when this was made, so ahead of time.
The story is manifold, intelligent, dark, humorous, smart and intriguing , all at the same time.
It showcases how in the early 90s hostels and institutes used to operate. How when you are young, you have dream in your eyes to be different; to change the world.. and eventually hunger and materialism teaches you the reality. There are so many characters and each one has been given enough appearances and lines to establish themselves and boy did they do it beautifully. It takes you on a ride, a wild and bold one, yet it's a happy movie , there are no twists or unnatural shocks to gain the audience's attention, it's a very simple heart-warming movie. It flows like a river, little ebs and turns here and there but rest it just is!
Siya (2022)
Captivating Performance and Compelling Narrative
I'm a simple guy - when Vineet appears, I head to the cinema. However, in this instance, Pooja Pandey truly stole the spotlight. Her portrayal of the character is outstanding, whether it's the eerie shots, the vacant expressions, or the unwavering determination of a girl who's lost but not defeated.
The movie gains momentum in its latter half as the carefree journey transforms into a tale of trauma. The only drawback lies in some extended scenes without dialogue that could've been trimmed.
My heart goes out to determined directors, casts, and crews who, despite knowing their film might not receive the recognition it deserves, remain passionate and dedicated to creating such films for a greater cause.
Qala (2022)
Class!
There are very very few things , in life in this present world which amaze me.
Gives you a childlike excitement and pride to say it has been homebred.
I hardly recommend movies nowadays for a. Everyone has a varied taste and b. It's a waste of time because most people are just happy with mediocre art pieces.
A period drama like this, shot with such love and ease that it is a cinematic classic , an euphoria of picturesque frames
If movies like these are not talked about, or mentioned in social circles then it's a disservice to one thing you love and your intellect as well.
The movie leaves you with an empty hollow feeling and that can only be quenched by sharing with more and more individuals. It touches you in different levels and you in a self exploratory spiral seeking answers in your own life. Are you another person like the protagonist?
Have you, in some shape and form , knowingly or unknowingly did something which had derailed others' lives?
Adhura (2023)
Mediocrity at its best
You see this, and you are instantly taken back to movies like Omen , Home Alone, Get out etc.
Additionally acting done by the kids and teens are horrible. The only good thing about the series was the sound designing. Even though acting was pathetic the sound was able to pull you into the situation. Also the entire movie has been shot in blue tinge to make it even more gloomy. Not everythi g you copy, works. The story line is so predictable that you feel like you can gamble anything that day and be a billionaire.
Also stop giving roles to people just because they look good. Its liternal cringe to bear them onscreen with their mouth open 🙏
Ballabhpurer Roopkotha (2022)
Creativity overloaded
Such an innovative writing and then tremendous commitment towards the charecters from the actors.
We live to watch such movies, envy ourselves as intellectuals when we appreciate such movies. But that's our pride.
Casting was apt, the plot was tremendous, and yet it leaves certain questions unanswered..
Each character is so strong that he/she could carry the entire movie , alone , on his/her shoulders. Dialogues are smooth and deliveries are very professional.
Interesting experimentation over voice over. Vividly dark background mocking the present day nuances. The movie does reflect the misuse of power and the absurdity of our praying to it.
Shabaash Mithu (2022)
Srijit Mukherjee drilled this movie graciously!
Someone who has never been into sports , won't understand how athletes think, behave .
The movie is pathetically directed. Others just followed suit.
Fantasy Island (2020)
Cheap
You can't fast forward enough .
Only reviewing this for any one who might be tempted to give this a try.
If your fantasy isto waste time, better roll up a joint, gaze up at the night sky.. not this.
Hold the Dark (2018)
Dark and unsettling
The movie is a fresh take on how story telling is done.
It leaves you thinking , discussing and imagining of multiple avenues of whys.
Of course it is not for all..
Panchayat (2020)
Stupendous
If you still haven't watched it, leave everything and watch this masterpiece.
What an extraordinary journey begins as you embark and pack your bags for this remote village with Jitendra Kumar. I do believe he himself might have as well resonated with the same feeling when he left his "illustrious" career as an IITian and embarked on this not-so-fancy passion of his.
Anyway coming back to the story, it makes us feel grounded.
You realize what the essence of true friends means, what simple joys we are losing from our lives, and how we keep complaining about everything and not feel grateful for what we already possess.
It sits down with you and questions your life choices.
Both the seasons are praiseworthy and the actors have not left their shells in any of the episodes.
It's a brilliant piece of work by one and all and reminds us even in this age what a good story and some dedicated cast and crew can pull off without the cringe sex jokes or showering feminism vibes.
The story takes us back to our childhood days when we used to cherish some good old tales of life and the small joys we used to get reading them.
I guess these are the actors our glam Bollywood movies won't accept but they will make you feel invested in each and every second they are present on the screen.
A Flying Jatt (2016)
It takes guts
This level of idiosyncratic ideas need a lot of conviction and guts to execute.
You really need to be too brave or dumb to put your hard-earned money into this project.
Apex (2021)
Epic
It takes tremendous effort to put together the worst possible action film of the century!
Additionally its stupid dumb comedy makes you cringe back into your mother's womb.
Pushpa: The Rise - Part 1 (2021)
Allu Arjun's performance will give you goosebumps
Yeah yeah, we know we have seen a lot of mass commercial gangster flicks and flying bikes and patronised heroes
Butt i bet this. Is such a refreshing take on the same genre..
Well you have your share of complains and cringe where you see the same old dram and women being materialised on screen..
Still the movie has a lot of heart. Allu Arjun drives the movie, some tremendous performances by the other caste members.
The soundtrack and back ground scores deserves special mention. The dance choreography is fresh too
I will be eagerly waiting as the two beasts clash in the next part..
These actors can just make you glued to the seat with their stares alone.
The movie is full of swag and i did enter into this expecting it as atypical movie with dance numbers and preposterous action scenes but i was left craving for more.
This movie is a class act and deserves a lot of love from the audience.
Rashmi Rocket (2021)
Blasphemy
You are talking about real life issues over here and this is a comedy of errors.
One needs to understand we are representing athletes who are competing in Asian games.
This is no joke.. you are showcasing them as clowns over here
Please don't show pregnant women can compete and win at such prestigious competitive fields.
Bhuj: The Pride of India (2021)
Cartoonish
People net over drinks and made this movie.
Now IMDb complains that the review is too short
It's like writing about a subject where you don't have anything to write.
The Guilty (2021)
One man show
Well someone should already give Jake Gyllenhaal an Oscar for just his screen presence.
This movie has no story or script in general
Shorter than a short story this could have been ended in 10mins time.
The only thing for which you can watch and re-watch this is Jake Gyllenhaal's vulnerable performance.
He eats others alive.
Old (2021)
Why squander you talent like this?
Well to start with the movie has all the cinematic graphical experience that you want from a high class Hollywood film
And that's it.
No one bothered acting or scripting or preparing dialogues.
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
We need an end to this
I understand we want entertainment.. But such mindless carcass is too difficult to digest.
It hurts my brain.
People in the movie are like, we will anyways ride on Kong's action so who wants to act?
Just sit back and enjoy cash.
Mimi (2021)
Weird AF storyline
The story has plotholes than will engulf all your expectations.
The cast did an amazing job as per acting is concerned.
It is high on emotion but zero with logic.
And the movie is unnecessarily long.
Haseen Dillruba (2021)
As naive as it gets
If you are an avid movie follower/ reader in general..
You would guess it by 1/3rd of the movie itself.
Same age old story .. no real effort no motive .. just a kid inspired from crime thrillers scripts her own.
