Best Worst Movie (2009)
Great but just too long
I really did enjoy the documentary because you saw a lot of love for this silly little bad film. Which is great to see all the fan activities and George Hardy being revealed to be the nicest human being ever to be see in a documentary. It was funny to see him being a bit socially inept when he got excited selling the film to strangers. But the London con section should have been cut since it was sad. I also would have loved to have seen more of Connie Young which o felt could have talked more about her experiences with the film.
It was nice to see people like Don Packard feel the fan love during the fan event after having a hard life. Moments like that made me smile.
But then there were moments that were both sad, funny, bizarre like when they visit Margo Prey who seems to have some mental issues. Her house has her windows boarded and a sign in front of her house saying a very detailed sign about essentially no trespassing. George says "I don't know about this I don't want to get shot" then she seems mentally unwell as she takes care of her mother who plugs her ears when they sign row row row your boat. It's also sweet when they show George talking to her about her recent acting career.
There are a lot of moments like this. It's great. I just wish I could scored this higher but it was so long that i had to take a break and come back to it later. Kind of like Troll 2 huh, interesting.
Reginald the Vampire (2022)
Good but flawed
So the concept of this show is good and i do like the characters but the show is flawed. The pacing of the show is badly executed. A lot of episodes spend too much time on moments that should be cut in half, focusing on silly subplots that meander. The dialogue can also be stiff which i suspect may be someone behind the camera was very rigid in not letting the actors deviate from what is on the page. So certain scenes come off as awkward and robotic.
But there are some funny bits . The way its filmed is very unique. There are a lot colors that make it look like a comic book. The actors are very good. So everyone is perfectly cast. The show is funny and the plots are interesting, I just wish they would tighten it up. So the show is good and has potential. I just hope next season they can fix the mistakes they made.
My Dead Ex (2018)
I want more!!!!!
You know a show is good when it leaves you wanting more. I loved this limited series! The comedy was sarcastic and broke a lot of cliches but yet plays them up in an incredibly dedicated way. The characters were flawed, the main characters were actually off putting but start to grow on you. I hope to see more of the actors in the future because they were excellent
I really wish it could have had a longer ending or explored some more aspects of the story. But a huge thumbs up from me.
Lindsay Ellis' Essay Collection (2016)
Interesting and Funny
Linsey Ellis has a very smart and interesting take on film and literature. She weaves snarky sarcastic humor with interesting opinions on things like literature, film and TV. Although Ellis can have a polarizing opinions, it does stir intriguing conversations and debates from her points.
The Laundromat (2019)
Good message but bad execution
So my wife and I were excited to see this movie. We love the actors and director. The plot sounded very interesting. A true tale regarding the horrible crimes committed by the rich with corrupt laws that need to be changed. At first we enjoyed the humor and breaking of the fourth wall in the film. The set up was good. A woman is involved in a horrible tour boat accident that claims the life of her husband. It is then revealed that she is being cheated out of the insurance money she rightfully deserves due to corrupt business practices.
This leads her to uncover how our finance laws are completely biased to benefit the rich and corrupt.
Seems like a great plot. But it falls apart rather quickly. It begins to intersect with other stories to try to explain how shell companies, biased tax laws and corruption affect all of us. But it just creates a mess. 40 minutes into the film, my wife and I looked at each other and exclaimed "I have no idea what's going on right now".
There's even a point in the film where Streep's character is trying to explain what's going on to a reporter and the reporter keeps interrupting her to tell her she is confused and doesn't understand. Streep's character becomes frustrated and we both sat on our couch and began to laugh. We felt like the reporter completely lost.
In the end the message is very important we need finance laws to be reformed and justice is needed for the victims of the Panama Papers crimes. The film has good intentions and great talent. I just wish I could have understood what it was exactly trying to explain.
