I kori tou iliou (1971)
A national anthem...
It was about 10 years ago when I first saw this masterpiece and I really could not believe that greek cinema could offer such a great piece of art to the world. A lot of discussion has been done about Aliki Vougiouklaki and a lot has been written about her acting abilities. But it seems that people often underestimate and tend to forget what a great actress Nonika Galinea has been. A possible explanation is that her antagonism with Aliki led her to extinction. You just have to watch this movie to realize why a lot of us have been magnetized all these years by her performance: Nonika is an extraordinary, marvellous actress that even nowadays has a lot to offer to world cinema and theatre...
To retire (1990)
Greek history in half an hour!
The best greek series ever! Surrealistic circumstances, a tribute to greek temperament and an amazing Katerina Gioulaki as you have never seen her. No other european director has ever managed to convey human psychology in such a beautiful way. Congratulations to Yiannis Dalianidis who managed to bring together so many great actors. Thanks to Mega Channel that younger generations have also the chance to watch this masterpiece through several midday repetitions. It's about a real addiction....
Otan oi rodes horevoun (1984)
Respect to Vasia Panagopoulou...
Things are simple. We are in Greece of 1984 and things can't get any worse. Youngsters are undisciplined and wild. They don't have jobs, they don't have money, but everything is OK as long as they have their motorbikes. What can we expect from an intellect and very talented director like Yiannis Dalianidis? Just a movie like this one: Radical, progressive, funny, full of moral speculations and most of all with great songs. Just pay attention to the stunning Greek actress Vasia Panagopoulou. The song "Egw de thelw merokamato, thelw xiliara mixani kai thanato" is even now fresh and much beyond its age. It's a pity that Yiannis Dalianidis lost himself and his talent in the 90s...
