Ad Astra (2019)
Don't Writers and Editors Do Their Research?
I started watching this in the hope it would be as good as Interstellar. That one was certainly the best space movie I've seen so far. . Gravity was awful! How did that win such an award?
This one, It didn't grab me but stuck with it until we had an 80 year old astronaut, Donald Sutherland, going to Mars. Really!
It was slow and so laborious I nearly gave up then. But, stuck with it again. But!
The ultimate faux pas though was the ending of a call by Brad Pitt saying 'Over and Out'. This is never used. Over is one sign and Out is another.
Save yourself wasted time. Watch Interstellar instead.
I gave up after that.
Slow Horses (2022)
Read the books first.
Ive read all the books in the series and always felt it was going to be difficult to transfer to TV. The books have so much content. But the series has been faithful to the books and the casting has been brilliant. Despite my doubts.
I do, however, recommend reading the books first.
The Ice Road (2021)
Better than Expected
I nearly didn't watch this after reading the scathing reviews on here. I'm glad I ignored them. It not an Oscar winner but then some of them are as boring as hell. Think Gravity! It was a good storyline, reasonably acted, and kept my attention throughout. What more can you want from a film for a relaxing nights viewing. Folk on here are dissecting it like in an autopsy. Ignore all the negative comments and give it a go.
Bird Box (2018)
Awful
I can't believe that some people have given this a 10 star rating. The story is dreadful with the scary monster never being seen just alluded to. It's just a film about killing and suicides. It's not frightening it's just annoying. It's possibly the worst film I've seen Sandra Bullock and she is one of my favourite movie stars. There are so many questions unanswered in it and lots of crazy errors. For instance no one's hair grows that length in five years? It just wasn't a credible movie at all.
Book Club (2018)
Terrific Fun
What's with all the humourless reviews on here. It may be a movie for the older generation, and I'm in that category, so perhaps I enjoyed it more than many . It is a funny film. Like the book that it is based on it's not supposed to be taken seriously. It's enteraining with some real laugh out loud moments.
6 Days (2017)
Pleasantly Understated
I am so used to many action movies going over the top with their 'lets kick some asses' type of gung-ho that this was a pleasant change. I remember the siege so well and the dramatic moment the SAS abseiled down from the roof and made entry. Seeing what went on behind the scene, of the frustration of both negotiating team and the soldiers being stood down then back to the front again after the retraining for different scenarios, I found fascinating. Not once did it lose my interest and I was glad the action was not over the top just for effect. The only aspect that let the film down, and big time, was the cringe-worthy portrayal of Kate Adie by an insipid actress, who I doubt had ever studied footage of the lady she was portraying. Miss Adie was not glamorous. She was precise and efficient and very believable. Everything this actress failed to convey. So only 7 stars because of this.
