Raw Force (1982)
Insane!
This is a absolutely insane B action/horror movie where martial arts students go to the wackiest island on Earth to take on sex traffickers, cannibal monks and zombies that practice kung fu. Raw Force delivers mondo sleazeball entertainment with all the insanity you can muster. The fight scenes are actually good and the boobage level is on maximum. There are some nice gory bits and the movie is totally outrageous with tongue firmly in cheek. This is next level campy and a truly hilarious movie that must be seen. Raw Force is a unique action crossover film that really can't be compared to anything else, but it goes for the jugular and succeeds in it's unapologetic excess.

Hack-O-Lantern (1988)
"Nothing wrong with raising a little Hell"!
Hell yeah, Hack O Lantern was exactly the kind of bad , super cheesy 80's slasher to tickle your pickle. We got a really dysfunctional family that is highlighted by a devil worshipping grandpa that gets his kicks partaking in human sacrifice to Satan on Halloween. He bonds with his favorite grandson to get ready for the holiday. In the meantime we get tons of gratuitous nude women, bad acting, horrible editing and storytelling, hilarious dialogue, a kick ass heavy metal anthem ("The Devil 's Son") and some pretty decent gore/ kill scenes. While it can't be understated that Hack O Lantern is not a good film, it's rarely boring and kept me laughing throughout the course of the movie. I gave this a 6 for 666 rating for my personal enjoyment of "The Devil 's Son".
The Prowler (1981)
Good early 80's slasher
Slashers are a subgenre of horror that is not my favorite. Which is mainly because how played out, predictable and unoriginal it became. The Prowler was a early entry to the genre and was actually done well. Director Joe Zito was better known for Cannon Films action classics like Red Scorpion and Invasion USA. So before he told Chuck Norris where to throw the hand grenades, he made this. The Prowler is a relentless thriller with a crazed WW2 vet enacting his revenge on horned up college kids. The killer is menacing and the atmosphere bleak with good camera work and score. Now on to the real star of the show ( Tom Savini) who put together some of his best and most brutal gore scenes. The kills are pushing the envelope for blood and gore for 1981and have been censored in some territories making it on Great Britain 's "Video Nasties" , which is really a crucial horror playlist of must see movies. Any way you slice it, The Prowler holds up well and is a good horror classic of its period.
Les lèvres rouges (1971)
Cool lesbian vampire flick
Daughters Of Darkness is more artsy in comparison with the Hammer era lesbian vampire movies. Lush visually and highly erotic in tone with some of the most beautiful women captured on celluloid..There is lots of dark ambiance to accompany the nudity and strong sexual content. Daughters Of Darkness is still very much a horror movie, but sometimes crosses into soft core porn territory. This was part of a wave of movies that came out in the 1970's and I will not complain at all about that. I had not watched this in a while and was happy to catch this on Tubi.. There is still q good amount of blood to spill here too and I am glad to give this a nice rewatch.
The Mummy (1959)
Classic Hammer Horror
The Mummy is a early Hammer production directed by Terence Fisher behind the screen and Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee in front of the screen.. It's a class production with great acting and direction, great f/x and sharp visuals. This set up Hammer to make more Mummy films as well as Dracula and Frankenstein movies. Christopher Lee did a good job bringing The Mummy to life with no dialogue (and under heavy make.up) was a instrument for the ancient Egyptian gods revenge.. Peter Cushing is a archiologigist that dug up ancient spirits that are disturbing with his meddling and corpse desecration. The Mummy was a movie that got Hammer up and running and would make lots of classic memorable horror movies for the next two decades.
Sangue per Dracula (1974)
Not what you would expect
Udo Kier is a aging/dying Count Dracula that needs the blood of virgins to survive. He hears that the girls in Italy are religious, so he assumes vigins.are plentiful in Rome. His bride suitors to be are anything but pure and get down with the hired servant ( and each other). The servant also is a communist that wants a revolution to kill the rich.. The Blood For Dracula is a dark comedy dressed up as a horror film. There is a lot of social and political commentary, both on the surface and buried in subtext. The narrative used is the Dracula story and is very campy and tongue in cheek..The political allegory is there, but you don't have to be Noam Chomsky to enjoy the film. There is a lot of sleaze, blood and bad make up for exploitation fans to rejoice in. Depending on what you get out of the film it can play as art or trash.
The First Omen (2024)
Very well done and effective prequel
The First Omen is a very well conceived (no pun intended) prequel to one of the best horror movies ever made. As a franchise, it was also quite successful with two very good sequels, a crappy made for television sequel and a even worse big budget remake. The First Omen is very much the quality of the trilogy and definitely makes up for the television flop and the unimaginative remake. It centers on a woman (Margaret) that was raised in the church, who goes to Rome and events and her life unravels. This was taken seriously and was handled very well by the people that made this. The writing, acting and direction are very on point. The story moves along well with lots of tension, suspense and dark atmosphere. There are some heavy nods to Rosemary 's Baby and there is quite a bit of horrific gore. The First Omen is taken from the perspective of the main character Margaret and is a terrifying, psychological journey. It also was shot on location in Rome. This is a welcome addition to the franchise. It is faithful to the original film, but keeps it fresh with some different elements. If you like the original Omen movies and the sequels, The First Omen should be up your alley and is masterfully done.
Terror Train (1980)
Great
Terror Train is a vehicle for ( then scream queen) Jamie Lee Curtis who found success with a little movie called Halloween (and its sequel) . She is a household name now, but Jamie Lee Curtis was really quiet good in this..Ben Johnson also appeared in this as the train's conductor, also excellent. This is a early slasher and is before the genre was played out. Terror Train delivers nail biting tension and suspense with a brooding atmosphere. It gets quite gory at times This was also well shot and Terror Train is a very sharp looking picture. As a whole, the movie is a quality production and well above average for the slasher genre.
Zombie Apocalypse: Redemption (2011)
Fred Williamson vs zombies? I'm in!
While there are no shortage of movies where zombies overrun humanity in a bleak post apocalyptic future, but I digress none of those movies cast Fred Williamson as humanity's ass kicking hero. If you can't tell by now, I am a Fred Williamson fan. Zombie Apocalypse Redemption is a low budget affair and is not the best movie by any means. I thought for the genre this was pretty good, lots of action, gore and a good amount of trash talking from Fred Williamson under a bleak science fiction storyline. Zombie Apocalypse Redemption moves quickly and is a good B movie watch. It isn't unlike anything that has not been done to death in the genre, but I still think this is pretty solid entertainment.
Quella villa accanto al cimitero (1981)
Gothic slasher from Lucio Fulci
The House By The Cemetery is not my favorite work by master of horror Lucio Fulci. The storyline is definitely all over the place and has a hard time being a coherent view as a whole. One thing that The House By The Cemetery does possess is atmosphere, the film is a very creepy and tense slasher. The gore is tame in comparison with his other works in cinema. What makes this resonate with me is the ambiance in conjunction with strong images of terror with great camera work. With the creepy score and lush visuals The House By The Cemetery makes this worth watching during the Halloween season. It also is a album by death metal band Mortician, which I also recommend.
Hell's Bells (2020)
Hilarious trash
Hell's Bells is a completely tasteless comedy that makes Wayne's World look like a serious artistic statement. While this is crass and tasteless no budget garbage,. I say that in the best possible way. Hell's Bells is endearing and funny. Jim O" Rear definitely knew what he was making and the film doesn't take itself seriously whatsoever. A couple of of morons sell their souls to The Devil to fulfill their dreams of hitting it big. This is really bad on purpose and our main characters are painfully stupid and doesn't take it seriously mid for one second. Depending on your sense of humor, this is either the worst movie or the worst best movie. I recommend leaving your brain at the door. I must admit that this is much more enjoyable than the new Motley Crue EP and was made on a fraction of the budget.
The Devil's Rejects (2005)
I give this a B for badass!
Rob Zombie borrowed heavily from Tobe Hooper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but with his own style and a fresh coat of paint. In this sequel it's much more like Texas Chainsaw 2 meets The Wild Bunch and House Of 1000 Corpses, maybe? This takes Sherri Moon Zombie, Bill Mosley and Sid Haig, fugitives and remaining members of The Firefly family to hit the road. They are in pursuit by a Texas Ranger ( played with ruthless glory by William Forsythe) on a mission of vengeance to a avenge his brother who was a law officer that was a casualty of the exploits of The Firefly family. This film is much more of a modern western and a character study of our three main characters. It still is very much a horror movie with lots of gore, graphic violence and terror.. William Forsythe deserves accolades for his hard boiled performance as vigilante sheriff that goes beyond conventional law enforcement to achieve his means of justice and revenge. Also appearing is Ken Foree, the bald guy from The Hills Have Eyes, Geoffrey Lewis, Danny Trejo and Diamond Dallas Page. The Devil's Rejects is a great sequel, but different more action oriented than the first film. I enjoyed The Devil's Rejects and proves the success of House Of 1000 Corpses was not a fluke.
House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
Rob Zombie 's film debut
House Of 1000 Corpses is from the mind of Rob Zombie and is a fantastic example of horror done right. This borrows heavily from Tobe Hooper's classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There are also elements of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, but that's more prevalent on the next film(The Devil 's Rejects). One of the main things Rob Zombie got right was casting. Speaking of Chainsaw 2, he cast Bill Mosley here along with other underrated cult movie actors Sid Haig, Tommy Toyles, Karen Black and Rob Zombie 's wife Sheri Moon Zombie in her acting debut.. The plot is pretty much the same as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a vacationing group of teenagers is tortured and killed by a family of freaks. The special effects are practical and looks fantastic, the dialogue is clever and there is a ton of black humor to go along with brutal gore and twisted, demented visuals. It's what was missing in modern horror with a giant nod to the 70's while still having a lot of creativity and much needed grit. House Of 1000 Corpses is wild ride and a strong debut, it holds up well and I think this is great.
Street Trash (1987)
Good clean fun for the whole family
Street Trash is a hilarious and disgusting black comedy splatter film taking place in 80's NYC. The film is completely outrageous and tasteless with characters that possess little or no redeeming qualities A liquor store owner sells some liquor (Viper)that he found in his basement for a dollar. This Viper liquor is nasty stuff and it makes people skin melt from drinking it.. Most of the characters are homeless people living in the junkyard. There are some real over the top characters and a lot of tasteless and politically incorrect humor. There is a muscle bound cop that looks like a stunt double for Arnold Schwarzenegger that is after Bronson (a crazed Vietnam vet that sometimes snaps and leaves dead bodies in the street). Depending on your movie tastes, Street Trash is either hilarious or will make you want to grab your barf bag. With almost no plot and dirty, sleazy and morally repugnant characters, Street Trash is one of the most disgusting movies out there. This was probably GG Allin's favorite movie.

Leprechaun in the Hood (2000)
I'm definitely down with Lep In The Hood!
This is the fifth installment in this campy horror series and in this one we get a little hip hop flavor. I was aware of Leprechaun In The Hood for a while now, but never sought it out to watch if until now. Some of my friends that rented this direct to video release enjoyed it. Ice T is a record company mogul that stole a Leprechaun's flute that has the power to make music a instant hit. Rapper Post Master P and friends are in the middle of a 3 way conflict with the leprechaun and Ice T for the flute and their own survival. Lep In The Hood is totally hilarious and tongue in cheek with some decent gore and funny one liners, accompanied by a great rap soundtrack and some nice looking ladies. I know that this is not the type of movie to win any awards, but I had a great time watching Lep In The Hood.
Harry Brown (2009)
"You have failed to maintain your weapon".
This film has been often compared to a mix of Death Wish and Gran Torino. I found that statement to be fairly as ccurate. Michael Caine is Harry Brown, a widower andex Marine. His neighborhood is overrun with crime and young thugs. Harry Brown has had enough when his only friend is murdered by these hoodlums and the police do little about it. Much like similar films like Vigilante and Death Wish, the tone of this piece is grim and hopeless. Harry Brown turns the tables on these goons and does so in a brutal, but efficient matter. Harry Brown paints a bleak picture of urban England, while showing society 's decay and indifference. Michael Caine is really good here, realistically portraying a.gentleman of age that4d has some deadly skillls, but has some limitations due to his age. I thought Harry Brown was very well done.and a great entry to the vigilante genre and is reall.well acted. Right on.
Savage Dawn (1985)
Not the best movie, but I did enjoy Savage Dawn
Savage Dawn is a B grade action flick from the 80' that I have not seen until today. With a a cast of Lance Henrikson( in a rare heroic role) is ex.soldier returning home to visit a old army buddy ( George Kennedy) finds himself in the middle of small town getting run down the outlaw biker gang The Savages. Besides the leader William Forsythe, the rest of the biker gang are clowns. If this was a movie from the 60's or 70"s, Savage Dawn would be a western, as it has a lot of similar themes. The overall quality of the movie is not very good, but this is a rare chance for Lance Henrikson to play a action hero. He dispatches his adversaries quite easily and rarely has to use firearms. There are a whole lot of action flicks with a similar plot and in Savage Dawn the cheese level is quite high. However, Lance Henrikson is good here in this different role and has a early appearance from William Forsythe (both which would reunite on Stone Cold) as baddie leader is more than worth the price of admission. Stone Cold didn't win any awards, but is a better made movie than Savage Dawn. Stone Cold has better action sequences and a lot more of it.
The Hard Corps (2005)
"The hardest of the hardcore"!
The Hard Corps is a direct to video action flick starring JCVD that exceeds the expectations of a direct to video action movie. I really think the storyline and characters were set up well and JCVD, by this point was much better at the acting then when his movies got a theatrical run. Van Damme and his team of bodyguards must protect a famous boxer from straight up gangsters that are employed by his rapper nemesis. Everything here was done really well and JCVD is still in great shape, there also is no shortage on the action. This is easily better than some of his bigger movies.with larger budgets. The Hard Corps is not on par with classics like Hard Target or Bloodsport, but I found this movie to be enjoyable. If you are a fan of JCVD 's films or action in general, The Hard Corps checks a lot of boxes and is a good watch.
The Park Is Mine (1985)
Good, lesser known post Vietnam action movie
I guess this came out as a cable movie( HBD or Cinemax) in the mid 80's. The Park Is Mine has a lot in common with First Blood, but in a urban setting and a a much smaller budget. This has the feel.and look of a lot of the post Vietnam/post Death Wish films, but is not quite as bleak and Tommy Lee Jones is much more likeable and sympathetic. As a statement of raising social awareness on how poorly vets are treated, as well as the underprivileged Tommy Lee Jones takes over the park until after Veteran's Day..He tries to get his message across without using violence and is embraced by the media and the local Everyman. The mayor represents the establishment and is constantly trying to do him dirty and even tries to kill him. Yaphett Kotto plays a sympathetic cop that is at odds with the corrupt mayor.. Tommy Lee Jones gives a convincing performance and unlike a lot of movies before this period, puts Vietnam Veterans in a more positive light. Overall, I thought The Park Is Mine is a interesting little action flick. It may not be the best of the genre, but certainly is worth watching and Tommy Lee Jones is excellent here.
3:10 to Yuma (2007)
Excellent
Oh how time flies.... it seems like just a few years ago I saw this at the theater. That was almost 20 years ago. Anyways 310 To Yuma is a remake, I have not seen the original,so I can't compare the two films. However, I really did enjoy 2007's 310 To Yuma. It is a sharp looking, nicely scored and shot, tightly directed and action packed western. The pace is pretty brisk, but still has enough time to pay attention to the storyline and character development. Christian Bale and Russell Crowe are seriously talented actors and their chemistry is very strong in this film, bringing to mind John Woo's The Killer. Overall I like this a lot and holds up extremely well from the time I originally saw this. 310 To Yuma is a very good western.
The Hunting Party (1971)
Sadistic, violent western
The Hunting Party is a nasty, violent and misogynistic revisionist western with Gene Hackman and Oliver Reed in opposition to one another. Olivia Reed is the leader of a gang of outlaws and scoops up the hottest school teacher in town so he can learn how to read. Her husband is on a hunting trip and once he hears of his wife(Candace Bergen) gets kidnapped , he plans on hunting humans instead and aims to pick off the gang from a distance and one by one. The film itself is very bloody and unapologetically nihilistic. It also was really rough on women. Gene Hackman and Oliver Reed are both at the top of their game and truly bring these violent men to life. Whether or not if The Hunting Party is for you or not, is really well done. If you like Sam Pechipah's body of work, you should give The Hunting Party a shot.
The Scalphunters (1968)
Solid, entertaining western
I quite enjoyed The Scalphunters as it moved along quickly and was nicely shot. Burt Lancaster was up for the task as a tough trapper that tries to retrieve his pelts from a gang of miscreants (led by Telly Savalas) after they took them from some Indians that they massacred.for their scalps. Ossie Davis is a escaped slave that wants to head towards Mexico. Overall, I thought this was really well made . Burt Lancaster.was one of the best leading men of his time and is not too surprising he would shine in this material. This was really good random watch and is definitely recommended for fans of classic, old school westerns..

Wagons East! (1994)
John Candy's last film, I will have to forget that this exists
Growing up in the 1980's, John Candy was a constant in comedies. It didn't matter if he had a lead or supporting role, but his performance was always memorable. Unfortunately, Wagon's East is a mess. John Candy's performance is the best thing about this movie. However, this is not exactly his best performance I may be reaching here, but it's very possible Wagon's East was so bad it killed John Candy. Basically this is a really unfunny satire of The American Western. This script stunk to high heaven and is possibly made worse with John Candy's unfortunate death on the set of the film. It's sad that he passed and for years I didn't know that this existed. The film he made before this Canadian Bacon I thought was great and he made a lot of great movies ( The Blues Brothers, Brewster's Millions, Planes, Trains And Automobiles, Uncle Buck, etc). If possible avoid Wagon's East. You have a lot more John Candy movies to choose from.
Jane Got a Gun (2015)
Pretty decent western
Jane's Got A Gun is a pretty nicely shot and acted western. This also cast Natalie Portman in the lead and is one of the most beautiful women working in Hollywood. She also is a talented actress in her own right and is quite good in this action driven role. Jane's Got A Gun does not do anything you have not seen before and is fairly standard for the western genre. Having said that, I was reasonably entertained with Jane's Got A Gun. There is some good gunplay (and as stated previously) Natalie Portman is very easy on the eyes. She was convincing as the ill fated lead that did what she had to do in the circumstances, but still shows lots of vulnerability in this role.
The Shootist (1976)
John Wayne 's last film is one of his best
The Shootist is the swan song for American/Western movie icon John Wayne. This is not a typical shoot em' up western that audiences were used to, but more of a character driven drama with tremendous acting performances. This is directed by Don Siegel (who is a frequent collaborater with Clint Eastwood) and is ahead of it's time. John Wayne 's a notorious gunfighter that is dying of cancer and trying to find peace in his final days. John Wayne delivers arguably his best performance. He is joined by Ron Howard, Lauren McCall and Richard Boone. As a veteran to the genre and making over 200 films John Wayne really understood this character. The Shootist is masterfully done by Don Siegel and it's unfortunate that they only did this one film together, but The Shootist is hard to beat and I love this film.
