Man of Steel (2013)
The MAN OF STEEL Makes You Fly
Finally justice has been done to SUPERMAN!!! This is a must watch in the cinemas. Being a big fan of Superman my views might be a bit biased. I certainly enjoyed this film much more than Avengers and Iron Man 3. Loved the cinematography by Amir Mokri
the shaky footage makes everything feel so much more real in 3d
I actually forgot I was sitting in a theater for a major part of the film!!!
It has become a common sight now watching earth getting destroyed but they are surely getting better at it every time :)
The VFX was incredible. The film is a visual delight. The scene when Clark dawns the Superman costume for the first time and flies
It just blows you away
The film is more of action than emotion. The emotional scenes could have been done way way better. The story writing and dialog was weak in that department, the only disappointment in the film. Kevin Costner's act of Jonathan Kent was a very forgettable one. Lois Lane was the biggest turn off in the film
they surely could have cast someone better than Amy Adams!!! The chemistry between Charles and Lois was in the negative. Russell Crowe as Jor El gave a magnificent performance. Henry Cavill also did a good job. I was not impressed by Michael Shannon (General Zod), his act at more than one place felt artificial.
The score by Hans Zimmer as always was delightful and very successful in creating all the thrills.
But ultimately it was the action that takes the film to a whole new level, keeps you glued to the screen. The concept of superman not being invincible throughout the film keeps the suspense alive. If you love action, Man of Steel film is delicious dessert for your eyes.
Had Christopher Nolan directed this film instead of Zack Snyder the film would have been even greater than what it already is.
All said and done, I am surely going to the cinemas to watch the Man of Steel in action. Again.
Halla Bol (2008)
Halla Bol!!!
This film is a brilliant and yet not so great a film. This film had its flaws, the story line got a bit too filmy in a few places, was not so practical... a few goofs here and there but in the end what I feel what matters is the overall feel and effect, where this film did very well.
Analyzing this film, Rajkumar Santoshi does have a habit of touching an extreme, portraying a world with people who live either in the black or the white, he tends to leave out those who reside in the greys... That is where this film lacks in the story, that it is not practical.
But the same point comes to his rescue when it comes to involving the audience in his film, it becomes much easier for a viewer to associate himself with an extreme.
The music was a part that got left out of the rain, had someone like AR Rahman done the music and the background score, the film would have got a lot more value added to it. The acting was good, with all those in the lead doing an exceptional job...
If one overlooks a few flaws this film surely makes for a great viewing, and surely does touch your heart!!!
Mulholland Dr. (2001)
A "DIFFERENT" thriller...
I really am befuddled on how and from where to start. There is so much I can write on this film but it may just ruin the best part for you. So I have decided to break this review of Mulholland Dr. into two, with spoilers and without. But I strongly suggest that you watch the film without going through the second part and after watching the film read it.
P1: NO SPOILERS IN THIS
This is a thriller but not the "normal" thriller. Till the first hour or more the director David Lynch will try to fool you into believing that this is an Alfred Hitchcock crime story. A great atmosphere set up with something here and there in every scene but still that suspense lingers around without the plot really getting clear. Do not fall into the trap so well laid, keep awake and pay a lot of attention because the climax is going to blow you away. He doesn't give it away very easy, he makes you think. Many would say they got it straight away, but I doubt it. I first did not get what happened, I had to think, rewind and see some scenes again and then it all came together. So be prepared, that it will not "blow you away" straight on, but once you get it you surely will be left thinking for some time and will appreciate and love the film. P.S. This is the film that launched Naomi Watts
and she has given a splendid performance.
P2: WARNING!!! SPOILERS IN HERE
In a sentence or two the plot was about a girl who gets her ex-lover murdered by a hit man because she ditched her. She starts getting frustrated and dreams about her lover and cannot accept what has happened and subsequently commits suicide. The thing different about this film was the dream
I have always been fascinated with dreams and somehow try to connect a dream that I remember with my life. Everything that you dream emerges out of your experiences, your emotions. And this is just what the director David Lynch has done with Diane Selwyn. The dream was so well thought out, the blue key, the key that would signify the death of Camilla, came in Rita's purse with the money Diane gave to get her murdered. The car ride was from her experience when she was driven down to Mulholland Drive. Her interest in a girl whom she just didn't know seemed stupid in the beginning and suddenly made sense. The complete director episode was an explanation she gave to satisfy herself, the reason for her failure and Camilla's success. The more you think the more it falls into place. It is very rare to get to watch such a film. There are many films with bizarre climaxes but this was different, the climax wasn't bizarre just to be bizarre, but because it was meant to be like that, it was reality. David Lynch used the dream to express Diane's emotions, feelings hiding deep inside her
and it is this concept which gives the film a new dimension. The bad thing about a dream is that we cannot remember it, but here is a dream which you can live and still remember, rewind, store in your memory and fill in the blanks

True Romance (1993)
True Romance Baby!!! I loved it Inside Out
True romance had all the ingredients needed for a mind blowing movie mixed in Tarantino style. Can you ask for something better? NO!!!! I just finished watching True Romance and I could not believe the fact that I missed this movie and am watching it 16 years after it was released!!!
I am a HUGE BIG fan of Quentin Tarantino as you would have realized by now. He proves it every time that he is the master of the trade. So to start with the movie would not have been what it is if it wasn't for the script, the witty dialogue and the dark humor, which was expected from Tarantino
So that was not the highlight of the film
For me the USP of this film, the thing that this film had which normally most films don't have were the brilliant acting performances by each and every actor
This film had greats like Brad Pitt, Christopher Walken, Sameul Jackson, Dennis Hopper in character roles!!! Every scene in the film is memorable and has been done with perfection and style... In the lead both Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette were superb
The movie's pace is fast it won't let you take your eyes of it even for a second
So if you haven't seen it you don't want to keep yourself away from it... or you will regret
I highly recommend this film
P.S. Do not watch the film with children or let them watch it by themselves ;), the film has a lot of explicit language, violence and adult themes attached to it
