Moonfall (2022)
I hope the moon holds together. At least for a little while, anyway.
Will you watch this movie a second time? No.
Will this movie be fun? Kind of- sure.
Will you recommend this movie to other people? No, absolutely not.
I've rated this movie based on a one time viewing event- hopefully you have something else fun to do after that.
Guidance (2014)
funniest most eccentric film I can think of
I like Judd Apatow movies. They are offensive comedies, characters are over the top. They are a cartoon of real life. By comparison, say.. an Adam Sandler or Dana Carvey movie is more of a full on fantasy cartoon of real life. In "Guidance", we have something more subtle. You get the eccentric funny character- in a real life setting. The whole world is transformed by one believable eccentric figure. This is a relatively obscure film- not a lot of votes, it's Canadian. When considering spending an hour or two of my life watching a film- I care that it have some substance, that it be amusing perhaps, that it be shot well, I don't want crappy immature work of the camera. I want good actors, I want a good story. This movie has it all. I was shocked by how fun it was. I'm delighted that I chose to watch this movie last night with my darling. Try this movie for ten minutes, before you know it- the biggest regret will be that eventually the movie ends.
UFO: The Greatest Story Ever Denied II - Moon Rising (2009)
great documentary for the mentally ill
It's a shame that this title has anything above a 2 star rating. I don't watch anything before I consult with IMDb for ratings- and the rating was misleading- right now at 5.7 as I write. The whole "documentary" is a montage of pictures of the moon colorized by some photoshop noob- highlighting "anomalies" on the moon. There's nothing there. In part of the movie they suggest maybe the footage of the 69 moon landing was fake. Yes. And they show pictures of the astronauts on the moon, and suggest the background where space is seen it has been blocked off by NASA- and of you tweak the images in photoshop you can see buildings and structures of alien origin. This movie made me feel like I was being accosted by a homeless man screaming at me that I stole his wife and ate his dog and why don't I admit it. If you enjoy being yelled at by lunatic homeless people in public- watch this movie.
Thor (2011)
basic distraction from daily life
Yes it was fun to watch. Is a movie worthy of being a movie if it's only amusing? Yes. This movie is like ice cream. Not the best ice cream- but it's a kind of candy.
You won't walk away from this movie having any thoughts- you won't walk out and think to yourself 'oh wow, how about that...'. But it was amusing. The costumes are alright.
There's a ton of light and colors, and sounds that go bam bam bang and such.
Thor is a tool- but that's to be expected. Watch Batman Begins for a more meaningful experience.
Jumping the Broom (2011)
don't eat before you see this
I watched this movie because I love my gf. And she likes to watch girly movies sometimes. I struggled to keep quiet and act like everything was alright- like we were watching a regular movie. We weren't.
The acting was alright- I just think these people were fed a bogus script. This movie wasn't very different than watching a novela- soap opera. Not that I do watch this- but it reminds me of that kind of thing.
It's not very funny. It lasts forever. Just when you think the movie is probably coming to a close- they devise a plot appendage- and the **** just keeps going and going some more.
As I mentioned, the actors, not bad. There are a couple of good ideas in it too- the thing about the broom. But that's just not enough to make a movie- and then have the audacity to release this. I'm especially shocked to see the high ratings this has on IMDb- really a shame. I can watch a 4 point o movie, but this is not that. Don't watch this. Please. I watched this so you don't have to.
2010: Moby Dick (2010)
worst use of modern filmmaking technology
This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I am so shocked half-way through it- that I had to stop- and go back and look over reviews- to make sure- super sure- that maybe what I am seeing is a comedy. No- it's just that bad. The cgi is so tragically bad- that in one scene- you see a closeup of a whale's eye and see the wiremesh show up because of low polycount. Wow.
I think this is a treasure of a movie for film students- It must be mindblowing to them how it is possible that these fools got funded to make this crap- and then it actually got distributed- amazing. If I had made this movie- I would not have distributed it- out of sheer shame. I think the actors probably looked at this movie afterwards in its entirety and walked out before it ended.
