Ervinka (1967)
Comic gem!
Some of you may have heard of Kishon. You may have even read a book or two of his... Well, this guy is like Cocteau, he wrote books, plays, articles, scripts and he directed his them. Ervinka is actually a compilation of many stories centering on the character of Ervinka, a young bum who lives in Tel-Aviv and does one heck of a scrounging job that could make James Garner character in The Great Escape wish he'd have known some more about the profession. Ervinka hangs with his friends all day and makes his living by ripping of people. He then falls in love with Ruti, the cop, and in order to win her heart he gets in constant brawls with the law. Ervinka and his friend decide to rob the lottery house, and... bla bla bla... The plot here is so redundant that it's laughable. This movie is all about the dialogue and the acting... It's a fun movie to watch, and at times is funny in a level that brings tears to your eyes. For those of you who like the Israeli version of camp movies ("Burekas films") this is a must watch. This movie transforms the genre into a real form of art, with great use of camera, direction, acting and dialogue. Pure fun!
Time Elevator (1998)
So you wanna know what this is?!
Well, actually, this is not a real movie... This is one of those amusement parks crap-o-ramas where you get on a seat, and it rocks abit and you see a small picture in front of you... Not much more to be said, it tells of the history of Jerusalem... And it's quite boring...
Mifunes sidste sang (1999)
Touching...
It's really sad watching a review comparing this amazing and touching film to average, american, pop-films such as "Rain Man", which, don't get me wrong, I like, but is simply in another league compared to this film. This is one sad film, and is probably the only one I've ever cried at, which, judge for yourselves, perhaps goes to show you something... ;) Rent this movie, and get some tissues in hand.....
A Perfect Murder (1998)
A remake...
This movie, finely directed as it is, is merely a cover, for the great "Dial M For Murder" of 1956 (I think) by the master, Hitchcock... It can't compete with the source's power, and as "Dial M For Murder" one of my favorite movies, I sugest you rent/buy/rob a copy of it. now. I said now. *ahem* now.
Arsenic and Old Lace (1944)
One of the funniest movies I have ever seen!
First watching this movie I was shocked! I dearly loved Capra's work, and I admired him with all my heart, I enjoyed those movies as they were touching, funny, unique, and bright. I did not think Capra can create such an amazingly sarcastic tale of a world gone wrong with twisted senses and miss-judged morals. This is definitely one of the best all time screwball comedies, and is a must, for every fan of this genre, or a Capra buff, or simply anyone who needs a good laugh! With all my heart I recommend this movie to you, and I dearly hope you'll enjoy it atleast half as much as I did!
