Bad Movie
I love gay themed movies but this is an exception... so bad. I thought that was Kelly Clarkson in the movie and it was! That was my only surprise. The guys in the fraternity are suppose to be straight but doing oral on one another is another story. And for the one guy who's suppose to be straight getting banged is his next best hobby. At least there was a little eye candy though. If you're gay or bi and want to go to college at least there's a fun fraternity I can recommend. Say hello to Kelly for me. I've already typed 5 lines I don't know why it won't take my review, I've said enough.
Olympus Has Fallen (2013)
Loved it from beginning to end.... one slight warning for Gerard Butler
I'd hate to see Gerald Butler turn into a Bruce Willis, Steven Segal type of actor... Gerard is better and more flexible than that. However, this movie at hand was excellently done, great special effects, storyline. We as Americans truly need to pay more attention to North Korea, they really are getting very serious as never before and this movie was ahead of it's time in regards to the subject matter. I think everyone associated with the movie should get a bonus. It's the best thing I've seen come out of Hollywood in a LONG TIME. Most of Hollywood movies have been nearly awful except for the cartoon type that attract the kids. They can't even make remakes good. I would like to see OZ in 3D though... I've never seen a 3D movie but OZ does appear to have the special effects to make it a good 3D movie.
I'm so sick of vampire and zombie movies, Hollywood - get real.
Shank (2009)
Just Brilliant
This may have some disturbing but real content, but is definitely the freshest gay themed movie to come around in a few years. Brilliantly written, directed, and acted. The actors were really brilliant in their parts and they really fit the parts.
As an avid gay themed movie buff, this one is a 10 out of 10. I can't believe the score is 5.8 and should win numerous awards in my opinion. The whole story evolves around a gang member whose gay but doesn't share this with his gang. When they find out they lash out at him most gruesomely. However, two gay and unlikely people he's encountered one way or another, help him through.
I actually didn't think this movie would account for too much, but I was deceived by it's title and cover photo. It's a brilliant, fresh story line, that would have me standing in line to see it at the theater.
I must say kudos to the director, photographer, writer and cast for bringing this story to life. Excellent job, keep up the good work.
Green Street (2005)
Boring
My goodness this was a boring movie. I still don't quite understand the theme, was it sports, fighting, distant father relationship, expelled from college, journalism? It reminded me of Brad Pitts movie, Fight Club (but Fight Club was better).
The only strong, memorable, noteworthy acting I saw in this movie was by the thug, Tommy, that only had a few minutes in the whole movie.
The story just reminded me of street thugs fighting about football; an all too common theme in British films, like we're suppose to have a connection to their barbarism. It was kind of stated in the movie, it's not what your friends can do for you, but what you can do for them (something stupid like that).
Men of a Certain Age (2009)
Realistic Baby Boomers in Male Mid Life Stories
At 50 myself, I readily identify with each character, especially Ray Ramono's. As a gambling addict myself, it the mirror in the face I've needed to show how my transgressions and excuses have made my life more complicated.
The three male characters all in their late 40's, offer a view of life from their own daily lives. One in a marriage with kids, working in a used car lot for his dad who doesn't respect him, deeply in debt and no where else to turn; while he also deals with his health issues. One, single over-the-hill actor who does day work in an office setting doing spreadsheets while surfing the web and taking breaks more than he works. And, Ray Romano's character runs a small party supply store who is coming out of a marriage because of his gambling addiction, while having time-to-time problems paying his bookie.
The three meet and talk around breakfast, run together, and more. This is definitely a male bonding program that has been long over due for TV. In a way, it's what the Golden Girls were to older women.
Ray Ramono has done it again. I loved, "Everybody Loves Raymond", now I'm loving, "Men of a Certain Age". The show has been successful in tapping into my age group and showing the reality of what men our age go through. It's definitely a testosterone show. Enjoy!
The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans (2009)
w-t-f-w-t?
OMG! Watched of 1/3 of this "movie" and was just struck down disappointed in everyone. The story sucked. Don't waste your time watching this crap. Can't believe this was nominated for anything. I was hoping an alligator would come out of the marsh and eat Nicholas Cage and the movie would be over. Sad, very sad.
Raising Arizona was better than this movie and that's another bad Nicholas Cage movie but at least it was a comedy. Watching Conair for the 20,000,000 time would be better than sitting all the way through this. When is Nicholas Cage ever going to smile in a movie? Is his real life so dull that he can't smile? I guess he doesn't have much to smile about these days.
Don't get me wrong, I actually like Nicholas Cage as an actor, but there are some that really, what was he thinking about. All though there are plenty of contributing actors with good names to this movie, they don't have enough script to take away from his sorrowful character. His character is a complete loser.
Puccini for Beginners (2006)
Excellent Movie
I was a little leery at first when I read the synopsis, but this is one movie I thoroughly enjoyed. The characters were interconnected, well chosen, and delivered good performances. However, I think the magic in this movie is the script and direction. As a gay person who loves gay themed movies, this one really stood out with a bizarre quad love story. People who found something in common with one person, whether they were alike or different. One of the things I liked most about the story had nothing to do with the main characters but the sushi chefs who added comedy at the right moment. I recognized the main male character from TRICK and I'm glad to see him in something else, his character free flowing style and intellect was the perfect counterpart for the main lesbian character to be mesmerized by. But we all too soon learn, she's easily mesmerized. Anyway, I say let's add this to our top 20 list gay movies that hits the A list as far as I'm concerned. Watch it, enjoy it.
Knowing (2009)
Amazing Film
Amazing fortune telling movie that leads to end of the world but not the end of man. A movie you must see in the theater to appreciate. Great visuals, fantastic effects. I love Nicholas Cage as an actor but he needs a little more posture and positivity in this movie. He reminded me of his character in Conair a bit but without the long hair and accent, he droops, shoulders are down, tone is down, maybe to fill the sci fi theme of the movie, but it seemed depressing to me. But I love this film regardless. Fantastic ending. Buy the ticket. The disaster scenes are huge, with an airliner and subway crash, devastatling real life and death images. Reminded me of some Sept 11th episodes.
Clapham Junction (2007)
Gay Multi-story Movie with controversies
First, I'd like to say this movie is dated in the themes it portrays, but the acting is very good. It opens with a gay civil union where one of the grooms tries to have a fling with a male waiter (I thought this has a lot of gall and I didn't like this portrayal at a gay union; very unlikely).
The movie dealt with gay bashing in several different ways with multiple characters. I didn't even get what was going on in the one guys head who took care of his grandmother (Alfie), he would get dressed up gay and go out to find someone to bash. His first victim, it was horrible to see what he did to him, the way he broke a glass vase over his head, beat and kicked him, stuffed ciggarette butts in his mouth, urinated on him and spit on him (HOW DEMEANING), I never knew what would cause this guy to do something like that. The waiter who was making out with the groom was bashed to death by two youths when they found him in a pickup restroom. The first gay basher I mentioned was later bashed by a big stocky guy he was trying to pickup to bash. At first I thought this might have been someone the first gay bashed victim may have hired to get even with they guy, but the movie never disclosed that.
There was a 14 year old boy who was possessed with an older man who turned out to be a convicted pedaphile, living across the street. Although one viewer though this part of the story was very very good and described the man only as an older man and not the pedaphile he was, this turned my thought on this part of their story. It was very well acted and the actors characters you did want to feel different about but pedaphiles do not deserve sympathy. Although he did not provoke the boys attention, quite the reverse, and he tried many times to get the boy out of his apartment and cried when the boy kissed him, etc, etc. The boy was determined to have the man. Despite everything, a pedaphile is a pedaphile and this story touched a nerve and I felt no sympathy for either character. There was a parental confrontation that was well acted as well.
The was one short story about a young black violinist that was being harassed by a thug group and he was afraid to go home any one way after his lessons. This story did not feed into the woven structure of the other stories and could have been cut out of the movie.
All the other stories, blended together throughout the movie and created a woven storyline. At times shocking, always interesting, most controversial. For the most part, the movie from beginning to end circled around one of the grooms wedding rings, except the pedaphile piece.
All together I thought it was a good movie, well acted, but exaggerated a lot of todays actual gay social life. It might be that way in London, but I'm not so sure about here in America. It concentrated a lot on violence and outdated gay sex scenarios.
I would buy this movie to add to my personal DVD collection but would be hesitant to share watching it with friends.
Choke (2008)
Not one redeeming value
Are they kidding? This has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Terribly low values. This screenplay writer must have hit an all time low to write something this terrible. A guy who goes through life taking care of his mentally ill "mother" in an institution, who might be the half-generic son of God, whose a sex addict, who works at a mid-evil theme park, who falls in love with a psychiatric patient, who's best friend is a masturbation addict who falls in love with a stripper. PLEASE!!! Tell me they were high when they wrote this! I can't believe people put money into making a film like this. OMG, it's awful. Did I mention the lead actor is a scam artist who fakes choking to gain sympathy and money from his victims. Lower than low is all I can say. The female inpatients all want to have sex with him and then turn around and think he's the son of God. I don't know how they made this script up. The only other bad movie I've seen that's this bad is THE HOUSE BUNNY. Both want to make me puke. I would rather watch another movie, any movie, rather than this. I'd rather watch another repeat of DIE HARD or CON AIR for the 10,000th time than this. This movie should have never been made. It's a disgrace to see it listed on IMDb.COM.
Coffee Date (2006)
Excellent Movie about friends with questions
I watched this movie twice off the bat. It was so interesting about a blind date between a openly gay man with a straight man. It's almost a romance movie, however, the main character continues to be straight and all his family and co-workers believe him to be gay. It's a story about deep friendship between two people have different sexual preferences, although the straight guy begins to have second thoughts about his heterosexuality. The two have a lot in common and begin to go out together as friends, which is mistaken as a relationship and the story just goes wild from there. It's a very good movie sure to entertain. It's a strange movie for a gay man like me to watch because I never heard the words, "I'm straight" so much in a gay themed movie. However, it's bound to charm you. I hope and think you will enjoy it as much as I did.
88 Minutes (2007)
Lame Movie
Very disappointing. As much as I love Al Pacino, the movie writing in this movie was bad. It promises to keep you on the edge of your seat but didn't deliver. Got confusing at times, trying to throw off your suspicions but was just a loss of direction. The suspects were too numerous and got me thinking he had the wrong person in prison. It was too unbelievable and too many twists to be considered worth while watching. It was stupid to think that he had all of his students suspect and outside people too, from the doorman and the motorcycle guy following them around all the time. It should have had clear direction and writing, that's all I can say. I was expecting a 10 and got a 1 out of this movie. Maybe if this movie had backwards time drama like, "Vantage Point", it would have made the movie more intense. For now, try another movie.
The Best Man (1964)
Great, great political movie
This movie was absolutely fabulous. I didn't think I would fall for a political movie but this one makes an exception. Full of mystique, political scandal, temptation, rumors, and did I mention great acting. Which candidate will stoop so low to win the election? I saw this movie once, before tonight and was utterly in awe (both times). Henry Fonda at his best.
It's a classic black and white film with great direction as well. They don't make these kind of quality films anymore and, to me, it stands the test of time. Those convention days are not gone, they are still alive with McCain and Obama. The only other political movie I thought was noteworthy was The Manchurian Candidate starring Angela Landsbury.
