Bone Tomahawk (2015)
Western meets Cannibal, a brilliant classic in modern times
In 2015 where we are used to seeing none stop CGI, thin plot, endless action trash...here we have the opposite, a real movie gem. It's a classically crafted western that ended up as a brutal cannibal masterpiece.
At first it does make the audience feel that theirs not much happening compared to general modern cinema but what we do have is quality acting, cinematography and script building up to the shocking and unpredictable end
I can't recommend this enough, unlike most films of today it's not made for profit it's made for quality film making, something which I fear today is few and far between
Go watch it
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
The force isn't with the writers
This is a prime example of a modern movie with stunning visuals but lame writing ...not a bad way to kill a few hours whilst stuffing your face with popcorn and playing with your phone but overhaul the story had to many stupid moments that you'd have to be utterly mindless to forgive.
There's also nothing new here and the dark side are making the same stupid mistakes they were making 30 years ago. It's almost like a remake or homage to the original films.
The two main good characters are awfully skilled in lightsaber fighting and/or using the force considering they didn't even have a clue twenty minutes earlier and had no training in either. The main bad guy despite having training from the dark side appears average against the two nobody's who suddenly have discovered their remarkable skill.
Eye candy not brain candy. It's mindless fun but too mindless...more brain dead...leaving the intelligent member's of the audience thinking, what?
Turned (2015)
Highly Watchable and Entertaining
I really enjoyed this short film, I personally feel the story gives the audience what they want to see, rather then what they hope to see but it never materialises. But above all it's fun to watch.
Despite the obvious tight budget it achieves it's entertainment value goal. Because it's been created by getting the most out of the resources available. It takes a talented director to achieve entertainment with a possible empty wallet
The locations for filming have been chosen wisely, costume, effects, makeup and music score are all how and where they should be.
A great short film and know doubt difficult to achieve, I'd certainly watch it again
The Pyramid (2014)
90 minutes of product
First of all I love the concept of the movie, the potential was there but from then on is where we encounter the problems.
It plays like a found footage film in parts which was a mistake and wasn't necessary to make the film, lots of shaky blurry images from the actors point of view which soon become annoying. The lead actress is forced to carry the burden of making up for some of the other more lamer actors.
The script is terrible and illogical and when you finally see the creature in full it's a big let down, instead of using you imagination like before which was way better. Such a shame
Redd Inc. (2012)
Get back to work!
A great story and solid performances with flawless special effects, Inhuman resources stands out in the horror genre. The movie is tense with many edge of your seat moments combined with the fear and isolation of the 6 people held against there will. Nicholas Hope is perfectly cast in his role as their demented former office professional turned captor with his character ranging from a calm and professional boss to outright psychopathic and twisted.
The story takes twists and turns along the way and it's entertainment that keeps you clued to the screen giving the audience satisfaction for their time. With the movie industry churning out endless no star horror garbage, it's great to come across a film such as this where all the right boxes have been ticked
Nightmare (1981)
Nightmare (UNCUT VERSION)
Firstly make sure you see the UNCUT version. There are clearly to many reviews on here from people who have been watching the cut version without realising it, then giving the film a bad review because all the shock gore is missing.
Because the cut version removes most of the shocking scenes and bloody effects it really has damaged the reputation of the uncut original.
I have watched almost ever horror film worth effort from the 1980's, and I can safely say that Nightmare ranks close to the top of the list.
Atmospheric, quality performances, original script, nicely shot and the scenes of horror are at the top of there game and brutal. There are so many horror films from the 1980's that people talk about because they were the most mainstream, but real fans of horror will know about films like nightmare.
Its an all round quality production and its no nonsense horror, unlike many films from the 80's where you laugh because of the bad dialogue, shoddy acting, poor effects or talentless script. Nightmare really delivers horror in a way other movies fail to do.
Parts of the movie can seem a little slow, but if you hang in there you get the rewards. Unlike other horror of that period it has aged well in comparison. After watching I sat back satisfied and thought to myself "that's what a real horror movie should look like"
Quantum of Solace (2008)
Boring none bond like movie
I've got to say I was disappointed, I've always been a big fan of Bond but this just wasn't a Bond movie, the plot was so boring I couldn't even remember what it was.
The editing was so fast in the action sequences you didn't have time to enjoy what was happening, you couldn't even see what was going on, it was just another in one ear out the other action film that could of contained any actor, and not for the likes of the James Bond series.
The result, its on par with Die another day, boring with total blue screen over kill, their was just nothing worth remembering about it. Just watch something else, like an old bond film
Saw 3D (2010)
Saw VII- the final cash in
If they had ended it with SAW III they could have walked away proud. But here is SAW VII, unrealistic comedy colour blood in some scenes and in one scene the game cannot be won. I thought the hole point was you could win the game, not be killed no matter what you do i.e the woman having both her eyes and her mouth pierced. This sequel has lost vision from the original films 1-3. The traps would take an entire team of experts in mechanical and electrical engineering in order to produce, jigsaw would need 50 assistants and endless disposable income. I wasn't expecting an Oscar winning masterpiece don't get me wrong, but sometimes you can produce more with brainpower then you can with money and special effects, look at the original SAW, minimal budget, good script, good acting.
