Random Tropical Paradise (2017)
It delivers laughs
Comedy in film is difficult to do - the cadence of timing and delivery is magnified on the screen. A subtle alchemy needs to work between the actors to make the audience connect to the characters. In Random Tropical Paradise, best friends Harry Fluder (Bryan Greenberg) and Bowie Pemberton IV (Brooks Wheelan) pull off a believable "homie-moon" adventure with reckless abandon and hilarity. We go along for the ride, through some anticipated capers and some unexpected twists in the tale. Each cast member, no matter how minor or major their part, has played their role well. Funny script shot in a lovely location! Enjoyable!
Screw Cupid (2008)
Clever Title for a Fun Movie
"Screw Cupid" is a clever title. The theme of the movie may not be that unusual(it is boy meets girl, after all), but it is handled with a witty script and thoughtful dialog. It is interesting to see the dating scene from the guys point of view; usually it is the female sex that seems to monopolize the romance department. The two room mates play off of each others idea of love quite well; in the end, are they really that different? There are a few scenes which maybe a tad long, but some editing could easily fix that. Casting of the room mates has been done with considerable perception. The female lead has a sweetness about her, but her outburst in response to Taylor's professed love seemed jarring. The gay friend, the massage therapist, the drunk girl at the bar and the cheapskate date, all made interesting characters.
