I Am Georgina (2022)
By mistake, watched a few episodes...
My friends' teenage daughter was watching it so I spent a few episodes as well. I have no problem with fashion obsession or luxury, but being so hypocrite while acting holier than ever, is really disgusting. She mentions donations are important for her, but she is taking a private jet wherever. She mentions she doesn't buy a lot of things and invests in quality, but then like literally every 5 seconds she buys smth new... you would think she would use her power and statute to bring attention over important themes but all she does is contradicting herself constantly, eating Jamon, and fighting with (what the hell is his role?) Ramon... it is not her fault but of all the people who are looking up for role models in the wrong places. This is really a sad documentary.
Gossip Girl (2021)
The only good thing about this reboot is Kristen Bell
I can't believe how problematic the original show would have been if it would have aired today. The cancel culture, being woke, influencing like breathing, these are so dumbly executed (&some of them I still wonder how the h3ll even became part of our normal reality). I mean this is actually the first TV Show I find so cringe.
In the original GG - Serena and Blair are likeable, Nate is the sweetest, Chuck is you know, Chuck Bass, Georgina the one we loved to hate and Dan is Dan not even him knows what he wants. But here? I swear to god, I don't like any of them, their obsession with Instagram and mind me I spend way too much time on Insta, just makes me realize how much I dislike the people who are influencers fo' life.
An adult taking pictures of teenagers ? Monet acting like absolutely the worst kind of rich person, the worst? Is it me or teenagers and young adults are getting d_mber while hiding behind I am free, careless, smashing all barriers attitude?
I don't see myself "craving" for their clothes or wanting my own (but much more sane and ethical) whatever their variant of Chuck Bass is.
The only good thing is Kristen Bell and her xoxo.
How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast): Everybody gets a second chance (2021)
Crazy, tad unrealistic and too funny
Season 3 was by far the funniest! It's a crazy, sometimes weird, sometimes very unrealistic show but the adventures of Moritz & co are so outrageous that i am hoping for a 4th season. Lisa is the worst character though!
Yours Sincerely, Kanan Gill (2020)
A very nice surprise
So far, I have found the "specials" on Netflix quite rushed or same themes over and over again. Tonight I came across Yours sincerely and I have never watched standup comedians from India but Kanan definitely was such an incredible surprise: it was funny, it was connected, it made sense, it was entertaining and his facial expressions are priceless. 10 for the effort and support! It was a good time pass indeed! More, more, more!
Sex/Life (2021)
The story is infuriating
To be clear: it would equally infuriating if the main character was a male.
Watching it, I feel like it romanticizes the notion of a toxic relationship so bad it s awful. The sex is important in a relationship, and maybe more in a marriage where is hard to keep the spark alive after years but in Sex Life is a "little p#rn is real guys" kinda message. I absolutely don't get people saying there is a healthy message somewhere in this tv show.
I am also quite angry by the lack of spine from the female main character and no, I don't see the struggle, I see her building all the reasons on why to cheat while keeping her stable, safe marriage too. Yes Brad looks like fun and intense and who doesn't love fun and intense but with her and him I don't get the vibe they are equals: he asks and he caves in... And Cooper, he should have just divorced her butt off and get the kids. She could focus on building her life, her career, try to spice things up with her husband... this tv series didn't make me feel good, didn't give me any excitement is just ... as someone said this makes 50 shades look like a masterpiece.
I would love to see a tvseries about a couple working through, really working through a marriage...
Anyhow watch it if you want a hot Australian, nice acting from the main lady, and a guy, Cooper, who is the full package but forgets what his wife needs and compares himself too much with the ex. Eyes roll.
StartUp (2016)
Interesting tv series but...
I am not sure if the writers made the female lead just excruciatingly, painfully, absolutely trashy character on purpose, or it just happened. No matter her background, nothing can justify the decisions she takes, the false promises she makes... when something doesn't go her way because oh uhm, because of her, she throws a tantrum like the somebody else is to blame. I am not sure if i can finish this series as this lady is just too much. Lucky for Edi Gathegi but i am afraid that not even he cannot make it up for the poor female lead story....
Just Wright (2010)
All the cliches alive...
I love a nice rom com on a Sunday, non brainer movie for a lazy afternoon. I also love basketball and Q. L and Common but gawddam this movie is like all the cliches came alive for an hour and something. A little too cringey for a rom com. Towards the finale I was watching through my palms like I was watching a bunch of people going (against advise) in a dark forest preparing for some chop chop (in a horror movie)
Overall is not that bad but prepare for rolling ur eyes while going "of course that happened".
Jupiter's Legacy (2021)
Come on, it's not that bad and def worth a 2nd season
Finished the series and read some reviews before started. Must confess that I didn't go with high hopes based on the reviews. But well, it was still enjoyable and the end, at least for me, it was not that predictable. I give it a 10 for the effort, the still enjoyable episodes, the potential. Does it have flaws? Of course. Does it deserve the hate? Noup, they tryin' so support that (esp in this period where everything seems side up)
A bunch of superheros doing what superheros are doing since the beginning of time. It was expected. The background story on how they got the powers could have been more interesting, like the main character's daughter could be as well. From my perspective, she is kinda ruining it for me - not sure if the writers are building "daughters" to be annoying by default (this lady, Homeland Security gal, the Americans girl and I think the list can continue) but hopefully there will be a 2nd season and she can "redeem" herself - all this rebel, boo hoo my papa is a saint so I must escape the hard life of being a superhero (which I totally get on one side - we all know the pressure of being perfect) is really not complementing the show.
This is not your standard Marvel/DC story but let s face it even the giants screwed it sometimes so hopefully people will stop with the hate and try to watch it with no set expectations (eg i loved avengers so I am comparing everything against it).
I do hope for a 2nd season, that they will get more budget for better effects, better costumed( the tights and cape is getting so boring) and gawd that they do something with utopian daughter otherwise I might pray for some powers to put some sense into her.
Give it a go and enjoy it! ;)
Ugly Betty (2006)
Gave it a 10 initially, dropped to 7 for the last season
I saw Betty la Fea, so when I heard there is an English version, I was super excited. If you saw the original too, you can notice some similarities and overall Betty (in both versions) just make you feel warm on the inside and have you rooting for her episode by episode. Without giving any spoilers in case anyone here is looking for the next quarantine tv series, Ugly Betty is just a super perfect choice. However, while I found the first 3 seasons entertaining with a super positive, non realistic, oh come on but still so cute, message; the last season annoyed the heck out of me. She gets what she wants and also overly irritating. So from 10 to 7 in just one episode. I can deal with the life is beautiful , we pull a magical solution out of thin air, so adorable I could hug her but after she becomes an editor and once Matt disappears, she is just insufferable! And don't get me started about her sister... her nephew and Marc are just awesome. Even Daniel warms up on u and Wilhelmina love to hate her... but Betty goes from "aww bless her heart" to "oh give me a break" ... still a go, but glad they didn't continue (Though I am all in for more seasons without her !!)
Black·ish (2014)
It's a weird hilarious one
Like other many people here, I had to watch the pilot twice as the first time I was meh 😒.
The 2nd time, I went through the pilot and the 2nd episode and the 3rd and so on. I must say I really love it. Ok, the race card is played every episode but it s not like it s a big lie or a big exaggeration. Just watch it with a grain of a salt. It s super funny, ok a different kind of funny but I am giggling constantly so it does the trick.
They also discuss some super powerful themes which people should think about so a little bit of everything. I hope they carry on as I do love this family.
Also, Junior oh man I want him as my son he just makes u want to hug him and tell him all will work out haha . And Charlie, the lunatic colleague I am on the floor every time he talks he is just oddly amusing.
Super nice cast, funny moments, completely understanding the sneakers obsession, weird discussions, wonderful kids! Just watch it, don't get offended and don't get annoyed.
Homeland (2011)
Awesome series but man Brody's daughter
Unpopular opinion: but Brody's daughter super super annoying. Except this, it s a good tv series to watch when in need for binging.
The Good Wife (2009)
Poor Cary!
Watched and rewatched several times and every time I am "poor Cary". He deserved so much more and so much better. Just wanted to leave this year among all the praise and the hate. The show had its good moments, bad ones but all in all gonna say it again... poor Cary!
Locke & Key (2020)
interesting idea, stupid decisions
Just binged this and while the whole idea is truly nice and intriguing, and could have developed into a very good series, whoever wrote the scenario blew it big time. Like the episode with Dodge and Sam, what was going on there? Really stupid decisions! And the actress who plays miss Locke, not sure if this is bad acting or they made her play that poorly on purpose. Tons of lost potential. Giving it a 6 only for the idea! Hopefully they will get it together. An original Netflix mediocre series!
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
'Fans' chill down! Amazing!
Might contain minor spoilers!
So here it is: I am always checking the users reviews for any movie/tv series i plan to watch. Always. It is part of my whole ritual 'find the righ thing' thing. Sometimes I even rate it after. Some reviews are more accurate, some not so much and some are just completely off but depends on the taste, right?
When it comes to our precious GOT, the overall score is quite accruate. But then, here came season 8... and we went through the excitement, what the ? moments, it brought up the dark side, the are you kidding me side, all the possible sides. As i am on a different continent, monday mornings usually were spent on check the score , get high hopes or dear lord have mercy feeling haha. However, episode 5 (as this is the subject afterall) based on the score and reviews i was ready for another disappointing, poorly written, on fast forward hour. But guys, it was brilliant! Yes, i can imagine how sad were some because of some deaths... building for mediocre... but it was good!! Maybe the best in the series! Dark side gets even the best of us! So i only hope that more people will get down from their high white horse (;) ) and be honest that they werent expecting this to go like it went and it was an intense, mixed feelings show and forget the little idiotic moments . Let s celebrate a close to masterpiece series and not become "nothing is good enough for my inner critic " type of persons. Here is to a grand finale ( now GOT dont u mess it up )
Thanks and no elephants (so sad)
The Good Fight (2017)
What a decline 😕
I loved good wife, so when I saw the good fight pilot I was just super excited!
Dianne Lockhart is really a great character so I was just waiting to see a strong series. I would ve loved bringing back some good wife characters but I understood how the series just had to develop its own "life".
Season 1 & 2 - full potential: a little bit of politics, some twisted plot with Maya, some romance, some power struggles. All was good. But then came season 3 and I am just shocked. I am waiting for whoever takes care of this series to wake up and bring it back but for now it is just sad: a Dianne who is so much interested in axes, secret groups etc, an eccentric lawyer who would ve worked but it feels like they just put them there to bring some "originality" and the effect is just bad; too much trump focused, no more intense cases.
For me it was helpful to understand some aspects of us politics but it is too much trump and now with the divorce - I am sure something is off and not ok to do this ! Just wake up guys bring the real good fight back!
