Poolhall Junkies (2002)
terrible
This movie has some of the worst acting and disjointed writing that you will ever see. The basic plot is that Johnny Doyle could have been a pro pool player but was kept down by Joe and now his confidence was shattered against the good player. This gets contradicted many times in the movie because he has major confidence in himself and is always telling everyone that he is the best. I couldn't tell if they were supposed to be funny but his brother and his brothers friends were funny they were so bad. None of them could act, they tried to give them clever coffee shop dialogue like in Swingers but it was just stupid and very immature. I am not sure what age these guys were supposed to be they looked like they were in their 30's but talked about living with their parents being virgins and other high school type conversations. When one of the friend went on the road it was supposed to be a big deal but they did nothing with it and later he was back with no explanation and all the money he left with. In another stupid piece of writing Johnny had to win at pool to get the money to bail his brother out of jail so to get the money to bet he got Christopher Walken too back him. They ended up betting way more than the bail so why didn't he just get the money for the bail and not risk losing it in pool. Also it shows again that Hollywood writers don't really know what bail is, they seem to think it is buying your way out of jail and then everything will be ok. The worst part of this movie were the 'clever' hustles that they did for example i bet i can tell you where you got your shoes. These were little tricks that you learn in about grade 6, even the one in the bar with the shooters and 2 beers, I find it hard to believe any adult would fall for these hustles. This movie is the best example of a writer that thinks he is cool and hip and can write that way and clearly is not and can not.
Signs (2002)
Poorly written and goes nowhere
This movie was another movie about a religious man who lost his faith because of something that happened to his family. The tragedy is slowly and excruciatingly revealed, even though it was easy to guess. Writers who dont know anything about sports should not try to include them in their movies. Homerun records are not measured in distance, there arent five homerun records to be set in a season. The way this was revealed was unbelievable by some guy in the army office that we never see again but seems to hate joaquin phoenix because he struck out a lot. They hit you over the head with the metaphor of striking out being related to his life as a loser, mentioning it a few more times in case you dont get it at first. Mel Gibson is an ex-religious man who they call father and dresses like a priest, yet he is married with kids, I guess the writer didn't research religion either. The aliens are such a small part of this brutal story that they aren't worth mentioning, except the way they are defeated is very easy. Although CNN couldn't figure it out even after they had been defeated all over the world. If this were written by anyone other than the writer of the Sixth Sense it would be dismissed as a hackneyed thrown together redone story.

Fubar (2002)
A real canadian story
This movie was so well acted that i cant believe they were not really drinking all nite. There are so many parts of the movie that I lived through. The camping trip was classic, from not trying to set up the tent until you are too drunk to jumping through the fire. The story had to be written by a true 80's headbanger and is a trip down hazy memory lane. This movie wont appeal to everyone, but with the success of the Osbournes there is a lot of people wanting to jump on the bangerwagon. This movie will help them learn what it takes to be a hard core banger.
State of Grace (1990)
Great movie not widely seen
This is a small movie with huge actors. Ed Harris is the head of his Irish gang and is willing to do anything to stay there including killing family and lifelong friends. Gary Oldman is amazing as the lowlife brother. He plays a true Thug. Robin Wright always plays a good low class woman who wants more but can't escape. She plays these so well because she is not Hollywood gorgeous, she looks like an everday good looking woman and it helps her with these parts. Sean Penn as always plays the man with the secret. His character works the different personalities perfectly. Shows loyalty to Gary Oldman, brains to Ed Harris and love to Robin Wright. The violence is very graphic and adds greatly to the movie and probably will never be seen again in our softer world of movies.
Tequila Sunrise (1988)
Very underrated movie
This is a very underrated movie about lifelong friends with the bad guys having a lot of good in them and the good guys a lot of bad. The michelle pfeifer part of the movie is actually the worst part but of course a romance plot has to be included. She serves the purpose of dividing kurt russel and mel gibson even farther yet they remain friends because they always have been.
