The Chase (1946)
And I had more questions than answers despite the good ending
(1946) The Chase
CRIME THRILLER
Adapted from the book, "Black Path of Fear" by Cornell Woolrich that has homeless GI, Chuck Scott (Robert Cummings finds wallet, and before he returns it, he decides to buy himself some breakfast first. And it is during then Chuck is introduced by his trustful right hand man, Gino (Peter Lorre) to a sociopath by the name of, Edward Roman (Steve Cochran) who fires his old chauffeur and employs him as his chauffeur as a result of his honesty. And it is not long before he is introduced to his wife, Lorna (Michele Morgan) pleading with him to help her escape away from husband to Havana.
And I understood this movie on my first viewing and not so much on my second after forgetting I had seen this after so many years. So much so, I needed to read another person's review to determine that a portion of it was only a bad nightmare/ dream. This raises the question when it suddenly became a dream as viewers already know when the nightmare scenario had ended. It is reminiscent to "Repeat Performance" in a way when the protagonist can redo the event all over again, but in a different way. Anyways, it still raises more questions than answers since the last person Eddie Roman had killed, the owner of some ships, Emmerrich Johnson (Lloyd Corrigan) for the last person he had been seen was with Eddie himself. For he was never questioned nor was he ever suspected.
23 Paces to Baker Street (1956)
Somewhat suspenseful in the Hitchcock way
(1956) 23 Paces to Baker Street
THRILLER/ SUSPENSE MYSTERY
Adapted from the novel by Philip MacDonald that has blind playwright, Phillip Hannon (Van Johnson) coming up with another play talking through his voice recorder with his faithful servant, Bob Mathews (Cecil Parker) until his former ex, Jean Lennox (Vera Miles) comes and visits him. Frustrated with her presence he then decides to visit a pub/ bar nearby with his butler instructed to come and pick him up at a specific time. It is during then he overhears a couple of people talking sitting on the opposite side of him about a pre-planned kidnapping. And then as soon as they leave, he then cross examines the bar owner, who it was, and the only thing she was able to tell him was that they re both around 25 to 35 years of age, and that the lady wore a blue cape and that the man was wearing a rain coat. With instructions by the butler to come and pick him up, he was able to remember the entire conversation and record it on his voice recorder so that the inspectors are able to hear it as well. At this point, and of course they do not believe him.
After watching this, reminds me of a couple of movies the first was "Rear Window" and "Dial M For Murder" both movies released in 1954.
Virginia City (1940)
Rare Randolph Scott in a bad guy role
(1940) Virginia City
WESTERN
The ninth of twelve movies Errol Flynn collaborated with director Michael Curtiz. Anyways, one of the reasons I am giving this a thumbs down because I am so accustomed with seeing actor Randolph Scott as a good guy, and this is a rare occurrence for it to happen. Humphrey Bogart was unconvincing as whatever he was supposed to be from whatever secondary role he has. One can presume the producers may had a say in the roles each actor is supposed to be one of the reasons the movie does not make a ton of sense and the one of the reasons I did not care for it as many have been typecast.
They Came to a City (1944)
Talky, long and boring and should stay as a stage play
(1944) They Came To A City
FANTASY DRAMA
Adapted from a play by J. B. Priestley, co-written and directed by Basil Dearden that has five men men and four different women- nine in all, selected and are strangers from one another all transported together to be on top of the highest stairwell, and then talk and expose their differences for the next hour and a half. Some of it is reminiscent to a much superior and entertaining movie "A Matter of Life and Death" from 1946. It was written as a stage play and for some movies it should stay as one. I fell asleep like while watching it and was hoping to be involved but never happened.
Arabesque (1966)
A cross between Alfred Hitchcock and James Bond
(1966) Arabesque
THRILLER/ SUSPENSE/ MYSTERY
Adapted from the novel "The Cipher" by Gordon Cotler that has a professor purposely murdered only for the cipher that had been hidden in his possession. We are then introduced to encryption Prof., David Pollock (Gregory Peck) instructing his class when he is then pursued for his services. He finally agrees to help decipher after a meeting with an Arab prime minister. Prof, Pollack is then brought over to the mansion of Najim Beshraavi (Alan Badel). He also has two other goons with him, Sloane (John Merivale )and Mustfa (George Coulouris) one of which murdered the professor at the opening. It is during then is when he is at the mansion is where he meets Yasmin Azir (Sophia Loren) who is supposedly to be Nejim Beshraavi girlfriend. And she tries to warn him after he decipher the encryption, that he were to be murdered later just like the professor at the opening. He believes her and tries to escape at the same time, disguise the small cipher as a wrapper of a piece of candy # 9. It is during then they are pursued other goons.
This movie more than a few times can be compared more as an Alfred Hitchcock movie than as a James Bond movie. Especially from "The Man Who Knew Too Much" from 1956, "North By Northwest", and "Foreign Correspondent" to name a few. And it is also the second Hitchcock- like movie directed by Stanley Donen..
I, Anna (2012)
Already been done before reusing tired old formula
(2012) I, Anna
PSYCHOLOGICAL MYSTERY THRILLER
Adapted from the novel by Elsa Lewin, co-written and directed by Barnaby Southcombe that has Anna Welles (Charlotte Rampling) who goes by Allegra as her dating name meets George Stone (Ralph Brown), both go to his apartment complex. The next scene has a neighbor living below, complaining about a leakage from above and discovers him dead. Then his teenage son, Stevie Stone (Max Deacon) crashes with his divorced mother, Janet Stone (Jodhi May) with some blood stains on him, which may give indications he may also have something to do with it. And by the time police show up with D. C. I. Bernie Reid (Gabriel Byrne) in charge of the case who is also coincidentally separated from his wife, happens to meet Anna for the first time retrieving her umbrella she left at an elevator. And when Anna forgets her umbrella again, this time he retrieves for another possible encounter with her.
I've seen this kind of a movie before, and I did not care about it before except that one time perhaps fro Prime Suspect or some other, then I would not care about it now.
Wilczyca (1983)
Interesting as a folklore and not as anything else
(1983) Wilczyca
(In Polish with English subtitles)
HORROR
Co-written and directed by Marek Piestrak that has Kacper Wosinski (Krzysztof Jasinski) just arriving to help his ailing wife, Maryna (Iwona Bielska) he has not seen in years who happens to be dying. But because she has done things while he was away that may have bewitched her, may have forced the way she was supposed to be buried. We are then see Kasper, a comrade in arms interact with his fellow superiors, Count Wiktor Smorawinski (Leon Niemczyk) and Count Ludwik (Stanislaw Brejdygant) who has just been married to a much younger wife, Countess Julia, who appears to have a history with a much younger high ranking cavalry man, Otto (Olgierd Lukaszewicz).
Despite the unmemorable ending and not scary at all, I thought much of it is reminiscent of a folklore or a mythical tale.
Lightning Strikes Twice (1951)
Although forgetable crime drama/mystery is still just as entertaining
(1951) Lightning Strikes Twice
CRIME DRAMA MYSTERY
It centers on Richard Trevelyan (Richard Todd) facing execution while he is waiting on his jail cell when a familiar pastor goes and visits him. And he is then saved when one of the members of the jury acquits him for the murder of his wife. Coincidentally, it is just happens to be the area where theater actress, Shelley Carnes (Ruth Roman) decides to spend her vacation on as she arrives on a bus into town where she needs to rent a car to arrive at a pre arrange ranch. She then meets the owner of the inn, Myra Nolan (Kathryn Givney) who also happens to own the ranch Shelly happens to book her vacation on, and offers a deal in exchange to let her drive one of her cars over there. When she agrees with this proposal and does, she is then holed up on another ranch nearby, and is stuck on the mud, and coming out of a serious storm. It is there she meets the alleged murder, Richard Trevelyan of his wife but was acquitted. On the following morning Trevelyan disappears on the following morning he eventually meets her again driving her toward the gate. It is there she makes a promise to him he had never met her as she is headed to the destination where she supposedly booked her stay. And on her arrival at the ranch, she then meets two people, Liza McStringer (Mercedes McCambridge) who happens to be the lone juror who acquitted him and her brother, Stringy (Darryl Hickman).
After my second viewing after many years, the movie is still entertaining as ever despite some inconsistencies such as that is not how juries operate in real life, which is appointing members of former family and friends of the person convicted, but is like no one cares.
Marauders (2016)
I was entertained enough despite the lousy way it ended
(2016) Marauders
THRILLER/ ACTION
It opens with a brazen bank robbery of a Hubert National bank from four people wearing masks. And because they used automatic devices doing their talking for them they would not have to use their own voices, no one would be able to identify them. And before they leave taking with them 3 million dollars with them, one of them did decide to execute the bank manager. It is not long before both the FBI shows up, in charge of the case is Montgomery (Christopher Meloni) he finds out later one of the cops Sgt Brian Mims (Johnathon Schaech) did not bother to show case any of the info he had uncovered, which is the fact one of four marauders left a single finger print on one of their devices and he takes the liberty to make arrests that may have been a ruse. Working along with Montgomery are Stockwell (Dave Bautista) and Chase (Lydia Hull). Montgomery orders FBI rookie, Welles (Adrian Grenier) to tag along with Mims just in case he steps out of line again.
One might describe this movie as an inspired version of "Inside Man" released in 2006 and "Den of Thieves" as the objective is to uncover the four marauders who have been hitting specific banks and going after specific people, for it was entertaining enough until it got toward the end.
The Shooting (1966)
Ambiguous end to which I could not even get all the answers to anything
(1966) The Shooting
WESTERN ART HOUSE
It opens with Willett Gashade (Warren Oates) just arriving to a rather familiar isolated mining camp. Someone is shooting towards him, and as it turns out, it happens to be one of his best friends, Coley (Will Hutchins) as he is cross examining him about other people as he appears to be the only one left. Coley explains how one of them has been shot dead, we find out later it was Billy Spear (Jack Nicholson credited as executive producer). On the following morning, both Willett and Coley are then interrupted by gunfire, and it turns out it was from a lady (Millie Perkins) who shot her horse she claims had a broken leg, but after Will inspected it, he claimed it was a healthy horse- who knows who is right! Who knows whether she was following the flour Will was dropping from his saddlebags, for he never asks her nor was it ever brought up. She then agrees to pay both Will and Coley providing him to take her to a particular area we find out later is an open desert. Another person who eventually tagging along with them is another senseless killer, Billy Spear who do not like Will and Coley at all who eventually manages to take control and have both of them travel without their colts.
And for the longest time I refused to watch it without subtitles since the dialogue is incomprehensible. And by the time the subtitles are available, I am still unable to make out what was going on. Some of the questions I had was who lived and who died, for the only thing that was evident was the person the "woman" was after was his twin brother Coigne all along as her motives was ambiguous. What was not answered was how did the woman know Will was not the person she was after since both are twins. And throughout the entire journey, the woman was shooting anything that moves whether it'd be birds or some other, that kind of indicates her as a sociopath nor is she not good at following orders. And then by the time viewers are able to find out who she was after, while she was firing at him, he was firing back, with quick flashes viewers are unable to make out who lived other than Billy who has a busted gun hand with nothing but a single horse between them.
Moka (2016)
I liked the way the movie ended

PSYCHOLOGICAL DRAMA/ MYSTERY
Adapted from a novel by Tatiana De Rosnay co-written and directed by Frédéric Mermoud that has a mother, Diane Roy (Emmanuelle Devos) going on an odyssey to track and find the one who accidentally killed her only son by hit and run. And after waiting as long as six months and getting nothing from the local police, she does this by employing the services of a private eye. He then informs her that it was a blonde and hands her a small list of 4 vehicles, possibly a Mercedes since a bus driver happens to be a credible witness in terms of the vehicle he saw. It was not until under a different name, Helene she meets Michel (David Clavel), his off/on wife, Marlène (Nathalie Baye) and their teenage daughter, Elodie (Diane Rouxel) that she begins to suspect may have something to do with it. Along the way, she also meets. Vincent (Olivier Chantreau) who manages to find her a firearm just in case something bad happens.
The mother loses her only child and what is credible is her leading to the separation of her husband, and suffering from insomnia with guilt that gives this movie some authenticity.
Le doulos (1962)
Just like many of other Melville's movies very talky and requires the right frame of mind
(1962) Le doulos/ The Hat
CRIME DRAMA
(In French with English subtitles)
Adapted by the novel by Pierre Lesou co-written and directed by Jean-Pierre Melville that has Maurice Faugel (Serge Reggiani) gunning down a former colleague taking his money and jewels and the reason was oblivious until the movie continues why it happened. We then see Silien (Jean-Paul Belmondo) enter the picture who is supposed to loyal to him who brought tools to open a safe with him hanging around with his live in girlfriend, Thérèse Dalman (Monique Hennessy). And upon Maurice doing the job, it appears Silien may have double crossed him, since when he notices police are onto him and they attempted to flee, one of them died from his injuries while Maurice was then saved by an unknown assailant. At that point, Maurice presumes the person who double cross him was Silien.
Le deuxième souffle (1966)
Long and talky gangster movie
(1966) Le deuxième souffle/ Second Wind/ Second Breath
(In French with English subtitles)
CRIME DRAMA
Adapted from the novel by José Giovanni co-written and directed by Jean-Pierre Melville that opens with Gustave 'Gu' Minda (Lino Ventura) managing to break out of prison, both then go their separate ways. Meanwhile, a group of gangsters are planning for another heist set at sometime around Christmas day, we're shown a bar/ restaurant/ bar introducing us to a lawyer, Jacques (Raymond Loyer), the bartender, Alban (Michel Constantin) and the cashier, Simone Pelquier Manouche (Christine Fabréga) we find out later happens to be Gu's sister. Word gets around quickly he had just escaped prison when some shooters barged in and manage to kill the lawyer. It turns out it was regarding a cigarette racket with Det Inspector Blot (Paul Meurisse) in charge of the case. Few days later the two living goons who survived the gunfire manage to find out where Manouche lives, managing to knock Albam unconscious while they are interrogating her. And Gu manages to show up in a nick of time, thwarting it from happening while the inspector is hot on his trail.
Quite talky and requires the right frame of mind to see the few gangster style shooting scenes it manages to squeeze in.
En el pozo (2019)
First hour of nothing until one of the characters begins to act up
(2019) En el Ozo/ In The Quarry
(In Spanish with English subtitles)
DRAMA/ PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER
Written and directed by Bernardo Antonaccio and Rafael Antonaccio who was also credited as cinematography. It opens with Martin Tinco (Rafael Beltrán) making out with Alicia/ Ali (Paula Silva) inside of a car, before they return back to their group barbecuing n the desert. And as it turns out, Alicia was two timing her current boyfriend, Bruno (Augusto Gordillo Lisboa) as he was sitting on a folding chair, he decides to get up and take a swim on the lake nearby, she follows right behind him. Viewers then become more accustomed with each of the characters as we know little more about them, as nothing much happens for the entire hour. With the least offensive character throughout the entire movie is Tola (Luis Pazos) he has a girlfriend too, her name was Pao who is at the city and was inticed to join them. Talo also cooks the food and at times acts a medium between Martin Tincho and Bruno the one who shows signs of jealous rage. Leaving with viewers on an ambiguous note.
Nekromantik (1988)
Controversial film that did not make much sense
(1988) Nekromantik
(In German with English subtitles)
PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR
Controversial no plot movie co-written and directed by Jörg Buttgereit, he was also credited as co-editor, casting, co-set decorator, co- special effects and co-camera and Electrical Department. It centers on a serious car accident with body removal people coming in to remove the dead focusing on a particular worker, Robert Schmadtke (Daktari Lorenz) who after he touches the lifeless bodies, he would then leave without washing his bloody uniform. And once in a while he would then steal a body part and brings it home as a souvenir where both him and his live-in girlfriend, Betty (Beatrice Manowski) do weird things to it. And then one day, he returns back to his job sometimes often late, and because he does not wash his smelly uniform, his boss then fires him. Once he notifies his girlfriend about it, she then leaves him and it was at this point, he inherits sociopath tendencies.
A no plot movie that was banned in some countries which the movie does not make much sense anyway, such as if washing the uniform was supposed to protocol, why did Robert does not comply to those standards.
Sapevano solo uccidere (1968)
It is like another one of those movies whenever everyone has their own input what each of them want in the movie without any of it making any sense
(1968) I'll Die for Vengeance/ Sapevano solo uccidere.
DUBBED
SPAGHETTI WESTERN
Co-written and directed by Amerigo Anton that has a group of Mexican bandits lead by Pedro (Sergio Ciani) attempting to rob a town bank but he was already too late igniting a gun fire. He would then stop by at the post office to interrogate the Morse ticker to interrogate him to tell them where the gold was taken. And they string him up on the hot ground with two people Jeff Smart (Kirk Morris) and Hernando Lopez (Ivan Scratuglia) stumbling onto him along the way and freeing him.. And when he tries to speak, Pedro then shoots him dead while he is having a shoot down with them, killing Hernando in the process. They kill two Mexican bandits with the leader escaping. Jeff then brings his body using his horse to his family, only as soon as after he leaves, Pedro's gang for some odd reason find out Jeff had passed by the small Mexican town and they whip the information out of her for his whereabouts. Pedro then injures Jeff severely, purposely dropping into the lake. Only for him to swim out and collapsing onto the middle of the road. He is then gets taken in by (Luciano Bonanni) riding with a Brunco (Aldo Cecconi). It is there is where he is nursed back to health and he falls in love with the father's daughter, Julie (Dada Gallotti). Somewhere down the line, another character enters into the mix, Clayton Foster (Gordon Mitchell) and he comes behind some people, he too is also looking for the gold. And when Jeff becomes well enough to leave on his own, the two would eventual cross paths as soon as they stay on the same town. With Jeff eventually made sheriff still questioning the only pictures of the parents he never knew. And throughout the entire time, viewers are wondering the identity of Saguaro, and what his role is here.
It is obvious if anyone were to watch this, that it was not just the director who wanted his input in this, but maybe perhaps one of the producers, maybe the editor or another un credited director or the star- who knows! Many of the events does not seem to add up for on one hand Jeff is seeking retribution for his friend Hernando then he isn't!
The Last Victim (2021)
Leaves with more questions than answers
(2021) The Last Victim
SUSPENSE THRILLER
Co-produced, co-written and directed by Naveen A. Chathapuram that has Jake (Ralph Ineson) entering a diner in the middle of the night. He goes in there with two other people waiting for him outside. And only to see a single person, eating by himself we find out his name is Manny Randowski (Tom Stevens). The waitress/ cook of the diner asks Jake what he wants to eat and while she is cooking his food, more babbling occurs and Jake shoots and kill Manny before he kills the lady in the kitchen. Old guy hears this and he comes toward the diner guns a blazing successfully kills one person, injuring the other. Jake succeeds killing him as well. Jake's friend comes in through the door, we find out his name is Snoopy (Paul Belsito). Jake is barking orders to grab the bodies and stick them in the back of their pickup. And upon trying shut the back, he cuts off one of Manny's fingers off. The following morning has the sheriff, Herman Hickey (Ron Pearlman also credited as co- executive producer) notices the finger lying on the ground picks it up before he brings it inside the diner while the other deputy, Mindy Gaboon (Camille Legg) is taking photos. The next scene introduces a young couple of Susan Orden (Ali Larter) and her husband, Richard Orden (Tahmoh Penikett) and are on vacation. We are then introduced to brothers, Bull (Kyle Schmid) and Tad (Dakota Daulby) are practicing shooting at bottles and cans. And as we see what their social life is like, it was during then Jake and Snoopy shows up, and he asks Bull where they can dump the bodies. And Bull suggests them a good place to be is the nature reserve Yay Oola. That also happens to be one of the so called hot spots the couple of Susan and Richard happen to plan to visit. Once they find out it is closed, they decide to drive around the nature reserve anyway. And it is not long before Susan is on the run forcing her to fend for her herself.
This movie would have made a great experimental perhaps as a social commentary project but not as a two hour movie as the movie left viewers with more questions than answers. I mean, I do not mind ambiguity but not that much as this movie have shown, such as why did Jake shot and kill Manny in the first place? Was it about the money or was it about a former girlfriend he had lost to him? And in all places, why shoot and kill him in a diner when their may be other times to kill him. Viewers are obvious the connection of each character considering there isn't a large population. The social commentary occurs at the end but it is like too little too late.
Córki dancingu (2015)
I did not care too much the way it ended
(2015) The Lure/ Córki dancingu
(In Polish with English subtitles)
FANTASY MYTHICAL HORROR MUSICAL
It has two mermaid sisters of Silver (Marta Mazurek) and Golden (Michalina Olszanska) surfacing after hearing someone singing, and it is not long before they are hired to perform the club for it's audience. The singing dueling mermaids are then given a name called "The Lure" are often topless and part of their act is coming out singing until they walk into a see- through tub of water so that others are able to see them transform into mermaids. Their act becomes complicated when Silver falls over the bassist, Basista Mietek (Jakub Gierszal) and down the line she wants to become human. Down the line they also come across a man who lives the sea just like them, his name is Triton (Marcin Kowalczyk), except that he plays metal music.
Unique horror/ drama/ mythical movie to if their is any reason to watch this, it would be to see the mermaids topless or to see their bottoms. I did not care too much for the way it ended.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024)
Slightly better than the third but it is istill not better than the first two Bad Boy movies
(2024) Bad Boys: Ride of Die
ACTION COMEDY DRAMA
This movie is slightly better than the third but it is not better than the first two that consists of plenty of action and some lame comedy. It brings Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are in a car who are hurrying to go somewhere. We also find out, Marcus is a little overweight and is on a strict diet and wants to stop by at a gas station, grocery store and that is exactly what happened. An attempted robbery attempt ensures and they go on their merry way so that Mike are able to get married to his long time fiance, Christine (Melanie Liburd) and we're then introduced to one of the bad boy's best friends, Rita (Paola Nuñez) with her fiance, an attorney general, Lockwood (Ioan Gruffudd) running for mayor. Meanwhile, McGrath (Eric Dane) executes an important person and his mistress managing to garner a password to have access to his bank account. And during the wedding, Marcus passes out and by the time wakes up inside of a hospital he begins to have a premonition. And by the time Mike meets his son in prison from the third Bad Boys movie, it was to confirm whether their original boss Captain Howard (Joe Pantoliano) from the first two movies ever involved with cartels in South America, and it involves both of them needing to clear his name even after death.
The action does not actually pick up until near the end and from behind of a cargo plane to transport a possible witness who happens to be Mike's son, Armando (Jacob Scipio).
The movie has slightly more action than the third one even though it still does not match with the same tenacity or potential as the first two movies, Way too much drama and emotional drama than I would like to see from a Bad Boys movie.
The Killer Elite (1975)
Not the most memorable Pechinpah movie
(1975) The Killer Elite
ACTION THRILLER/ MYSTERY
Adapted from the novel by Robert Rostand that has Mike Locken (James Caan) left for dead after he was double crossed by his long time partner, George Hansen (Robert Duvall) who also was paid to execute their witness they were supposed to be protecting. And after him being dropped by the agency as a result of his injuries, he then takes a portion of time to recuperate to seek retribution to the friend who left him for dead. At least that i s what we had thought, but as he gets better the agency then rehires him to protect another important customer, Yuen Chung (Mako).
I presume the movie was better after re-watching it again after many years. And it does not hold up considering what anyone are able to watch these days, the fights are quite tame, so basically you are just watching it for the gunfights. Anyways the performances are good the action does not measure up to previous Peckinpah movies.
The Gunman (2015)
It needs at least a half hour of edits with more foucs on action moments
(2015) The Gunman
ACTION THRILLER
Adapted from the novel by Jean-Patrick Manchette that has Terrier (Sean Penn) set up and double crossed after sniping a mining president. Later, he then finds out former special op colleagues have been executed who were part of the assassination attempt, and are also coming after him.
Complicated and unnecessary, the intro was too long and boring, and it was not until the star was sought after is when it becomes interesting. And some of the action scenes are pretty good but it could have been better and much more believable. The scene where the star presumes his apartment was rigged with explosives, and he enters around the back. And he deactivates it as he recognizes which one it is. He then pretends to enter into the apartment as if nothing happened. Except that the movie did not do a very good job about him re- igniting the rigged door when the goons burst into his apartment because there was zero scenes of the star himself escaping from it. The next scene just shows him just walking out from the front of the main entrance. Viewers oblivious where he was when the explosion happened.
Mercy (2000)
Not exactly watching it for it's detective work as much as it's subject matter of S&M explored
(2000) Mercy
PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER/ MYSTERY
Adapted from the novel by David L. Lindsey, co-written and directed by Damian Harris that has Det Catherine Palmer (Ellen Barkin) in charge of an investigation of Dorothy Samenov as her partner who discovered her, Vickie Kittie (Peta Wilson) is being interviewed. And as it turned out Vickie has not been 100% truthful in terms of her involvement with the decease. Meanwhile, viewers are then shown a therapist, Dr. Dominick Broussard (Julian Sands) having an affair with one of his patients, Bernadine Mello (Wendy Crewson) and then another patient, Mary (Karen Young). There's a connection there viewers are obvious what that is until the movie continues further. However, when Det Palmer returns back to the bedroom where Dorothy's body has been discovered, and then uncovers a secret compartment in the closet underneath a rug where a briefcase has been taken out. And inside that briefcase are S&M materials with a photo. And it is during then she is introduced to the world of S&M with presumptions who it might be as there is a serial killer in the midst.
The question of why some are drawn into S&M because early abuse from the time they are young has not been explored often. And that is probably what makes this film interesting, even though the reason why there is no marks of DNA is not explained because as it turned out bodies were being carried if there are no blood stains on the bed and so forth.
Jolt (2021)
The movie is good enough even though it is less than thrilling movie called Crank
(2021) Jolt
PSYCHOLOGICAL DRAMA/ ACTION/ COMEDY
The film is not is not that funny but it was amusing with a quick introduction that has Lindy who as a young child, discovered to be easily tempered. And has been going through different homes and so forth, beating and assaulting her peers twice her age as well as her superiors upon placing her into the army. It turned out as she grew older one of the ways to calm her nerves is by a simple jolt/ electric shock attached onto her- hence the title. It is now the present day, and she turns adult and into Kate Beckinsale character visiting her therapist, Dr. Munchin (Stanley Tucci) who makes sure to have a revolver in his desk, he is not only Lindy's therapist, but he is also makes the electrical contraption, she needs to control her anger. And because she lives as a introvert, her therapist set her up on a blind date. We find out his name is Justin (Jai Courtney), and she falls head over heels over him, after buying her a camera. And when he leaves, he tells her he promises to fry her some salmon. When she sees her therapist, she tells him she no longer needs the jolt contraption anymore but as soon as she returns back to her apartment, she is then informed by a call that he has been found murdered. And after meeting the detective in charge, Detective Vicars (Bobby Cannavale) and his partner, Detective Nevin (Laverne Cox) she then goes an odyssey to find out what happened.
Overall, I quite enjoyed the movie even though some spots dragged but with the ability to skip certain parts, it is not bad. It was amusing that was obviously inspired by the "Crank" movies but with less over the top action moments. And if watched enough of them may be able to predict the movie, except that the movie is about Lindy the character than it is about anyone else.
Canary Black (2024)
It was good enough as an action film
(2024) Canary Black
ACTION THRILLER ESPIONAGE
Co-executive produced and directed by Pierre Morel that has Avery Graves (Kate Beckinsale also credited as co-executive producer) that has her while wearing a blonde wig retrieving a flash drive in Tokyo before we find out she works for a government agency. She would then go back to see her husband, David Brooks (Rupert Friend) and it is there we see what her routine life is like. One day, her husband is kidnapped, and the caller, Jarvis Hedlund (Ray Stevenson) instructs her to retrieve a file called "Canary Black" hence the title! It is then her own agency goes after her forcing her to go into hiding and on the run. She then seeks help from a friend who happens to be a hacker, Sorina (Romina Tonkovic) and her boss, Station chief, Jarvis Hedlund (Ray Stevenson)
I thought the action on this movie was exceptional but not enough of it. There's guns, car chases as it also consists of a Bourne kind of tone when the agency were coming after her.
Dokfa nai meuman (2000)
Some times off topic and meandering on the myth of Dogfahr
(2000) Mysterious Object at Noon
DOCU DRAMA
Documented by Apichatpong Weerasethakul where he goes around uncovering a myth involving a student on a wheelchair and his teacher "Dogfahr". Filmed in black and white, sometimes the stories are made up while others are being told to and from other people throughout the entire city of Bangkok and Thailand. Viewers are left scratching their heads trying to figure what to make of it as a portion of the docudrama is sometimes off topic. We do not even get to see what is even written about the myth whether Dogfahr was actually dead or alive, or do we even get to visit the site that was supposed to have happened.
