Nobody Wants This (2024)
nobody wants this show
Well they're right about one thing...it IS true...NOBODY...WANTS...THIS...SHOW!!...at all!!...nobody wants it...why would they?!!
Terrible writing terrible dialogue terrible production...terrible terrible terrible...
the writing is pathetic...
the dialogue seems like it was written by a drunk Aaron Sorkin...it wants to be quipy witty and all...but it fails fantastically...no one talks like that!
Apart from the unbelievable laughable dialogue...nothing here is plausible at all!!...i don't believe any of the characters...i don't believe anything they do...i don't believe their motivations...
this show is obviously meant for dumb stupid teenage girls...because who else is going to enjoy this nonsense...this is 12yr old girl's idea of what adult romance is...
it feels like a poor adaptation of a terrible tween novel...
it's soo cringy i want to puke in my mouth...for every kiss there's a swoony soundtrack in the background...please kill me!
Hogwash nonsense garbage...
The Musketeers (2014)
nonsensical writing
I wonder who these writers are...i wonder what goes on in their heads when they write crap like this...
here was an opportunity to make a fantastic political thriller...a romantic drama...an action...a mystery...a very tight smart political and social study of a period in history soo full of intrigue drama deception and romance...
but instead we get this...a baseless tasteless pile of nothing...
where to start...soo many flaws i am literally insulting myself even giving this show a review...
the pacing is off...it's too fast...why are you rushing events that would hold much more significance if explored more methodically...scratching away bit by bit holding the audience in suspense and awe...you rush through and it eliminates any emotional attachment whatsoever...
it just results in audience detachment...20 minutes in and i already don't care about the characters...i don't care about their motivations i don't care what happens to them...
there's soo many characters...soo many characters to carry a narrative...don't all throw them in at once...Just introduce them slowly methodically just when the story needs them...
too many convenient coincidences...too many roll your eyes moments...the writers think the audience is stupid...
nonsensical writing yet again...ruins something with real promise...
Back to Life (2019)
disappointing
There's simultaneously soo much to say about this show...as well as barely anything to comment on...
it's clumsy it's all over the place it lacks direction...it's not focused and so it ends up being nothing but a hot mess...hot pile of garbage...
first off...lemme start off by saying...it would have been more compelling more noteworthy more moving if she'd actually have killed the friend in cold blood...then it would have been a true redemption story...
but instead it's just another story about a wrongly accused person who went to jail while innocent...oh it was an accident...booooring!!
Why not let it be she killed her friend in anger...she didn't want to but she was angry carried away by emotion...to show that anyone really is capable of terrible things...but they chose the safe route...
another thing...it's not believable...it's not plausible at all!...i don't believe that she went to jail...Where's the ptsd from prison...the habits she picked up...we don't see that...the whole dynamic of the mum cheating is also completely unbelievable...
how do they keep interacting with him like he just broke a cup and they're mildly upset...the husband's handling of the whole thing makes no sense...how the mum and the guy got together in the first place makes no sense...it's not even explained...
the plot is stuck...it goes nowhere...two seasons in and we're still in the same place...
i do however like how bits and pieces are revealed gradually during the first season...that might be the only thing the show gets right...and that is what kept me watching...very well done that bit...
i also hate hate hate the introduction of the parents in the 2nd season... it's soo annoying!...it affects the tone...we all. Signed up for a comedy...every time they come on screen I just cringe
in the end though...disappointing...
The Knights of Prosperity (2007)
a mush of nothing
KNIGHTS
started off not too bad...but then went down the drain pretty quick...
it was a nice idea for a comedy...great premise...stable enough to build a story around...but ridiculous enough to BE. A comedy...
but around 7 episodes in they couldn't hold it together...the jokes got dumber the characters dumber the plot thinner...everything was just pathetic...
so it's not funny...it tries too hard...it's a bit repetitive...it got stuck in the mud somewhere around the 5th episode and couldn't recover...
big waste of time...wasted potential wasted premise...
i mean what were they thinking...they should have just kept on with whatever they were doing in the beginning...
The Lovers (2023)
what a waste
This is yet again...and it's becoming a cliché now...this is one of those shows with soo much potential but wasted by the writing team...
what a beautiful premise...a premise for a limited series...a one season masterpiece...and they bottled it spectacularly...
there's sooo many plot holes soo many gaping writing mistakes...soo many laughable plot points...even the characters are shocked about what is happening...the characters can't believe it...it's ridiculous...
it should have been a simple love story...
the biggest issue i want to say is the pacing...but it isn't really the pacing per episode or per scene...it's that the plot is rushed...nothing happens naturally...they're together they break up get back together in like 3 scenes...
there's no breathing space...there's a plot twist in the 2nd last episode...it's hilarious!!
This feels like 1st graders were told to write a love story composition...and they were helped by an exhausted parent...it feels like a 12yr old's idea of what grown up relationships are like...
it reminds me of Starstruck...it's like the writers of this show studied it watched it five times...did a thorough case study...and decided...how do we make a show exactly like this one...but less funny less believable...and ten times worse? Boom! The show was born...
horrible horrible stuff...and yet still...kind of endearing...
Outsourced (2010)
the mediocre movie is better
Started decent...didn't end too well...towards the end it was begging for a mercy killing...
immediately you start watching...you know what is being promised...this is not going to be top-notch comedy...it's not going to be clever jokes...it's not going to be well crafted gags...it's not elite comedy...and the show knows it...
but is it funny? It is yes...
there's some god-awful episodes...infantile and just straight-up embarrassing...but it still manages to get a chuckle out of you...
if the first season had like 10 episodes...it would have been a waaay better show...but the latter episodes are just hogwash...it very nearly wiped out every good thing about it..
for a show inspired by a mediocre and yet charming love story of a film...this show doesn't do it justice...it's really hard to mess up a stereotypical joke fest boosted by a love story undertone...but they messed it up...
the love interest is built up steadily over the first few episodes...and instead of focusing this as the main plot...the show drops the love story...and then picks it up in literally the last episode...laughable!...
i could have written a better show than then...the premise is enough...the movie is there for reference...
for all the terrible things i have to say about this show...it has its moments...it CAN be funny...
Detectorists (2014)
there are no words
The most exciting show about the most boring people that ever existed...
if i had to describe this show in a single sentence...I'd say...it's the most phenomenally artistically boring show there is and probably ever will be...
it reminds me alot of Horace and Pete...they share the same tone...and the tone is very fitting...
i don't know if the rating is accurate though...it's a good show true...and it's not 8.6 good...it's a good comedy...it's actually dramedy...which cinematically i consider it humanity's greatest invention in recent history...
the characters are believable...their arcs are plausible...they're human real and extremely relatable...American television should really learn from these British shows...
the pacing can sometimes take a toll...but you still remember what was advertised...i remember sn 2 almost wore me down with the panning underground to show the treasure...
the theme song i should say...is absolute perfection...i never get tired of it...that in itself should be studied as sociological research...
it's funny in a way that is realistic...it's basically real life comedy...things aren't normally funny in real life...except when it is...
great show...good stuff.
Breeders (2020)
superb
THIS SHOW IS HILARIOUS!!
This is the show i have been waiting for all my life!...a somewhat realistic depiction of parenthood...
this sho does exactly what Motherland did (another great fantastic underrated British comedy masterpiece)...and then it continues to do exactly what Motherhood should have done but failed to. Do...
Motherland showed us the toll parenting can take on parents...how devastating parenting can be and IS...something the larger society weirdly never tells you...
but what Motherland didn't show and BREEDERS does...is show. How this devastation can lead to resentment...and it is done soo beautifully...
we parent because society tells us so...and not one minute of it fun...because it was NEVER meant to be...and it isn't...
this show is soo realistic...i have screamed at children countless times felt guilty about it didn't care and did it again...if no one else does it...then this show is tailored specifically for me then...and i loove every minute of it...
you won't find anything more perfect...
Starstruck (2021)
very very flawed...and yet still good
It's good show...it's a very good show...
it has sooo sooo many flaws though...it's biggest problem has to be believability...plausibility...i was so shocked by the low rating on imdb...but after finishing the 2nd season i think i now get why...
when i started watching...i thought the first season was fantastic...i couldn't understand why it was a 7.5...i mean it was perfect...and then i stumbled on the huuuge flaws...and i was like okay so it's not a 10/10 show whatever it's still good...
and then the last episode of the 2nd season happened and i now get why that would really take the wind out of every sail...i think i understand why people wouldn't forgive that episode and the entire show by extension...
it's a pretty ridiculous writing choice...a pathetic plot point...
this love story is not believable at all...he's supposed to be a huge star...but he walks around town like a random person...he's in a bar just chilling...and the relationship itself makes no sense...the things they break up for and the time it takes them to address it and confront each other is ridiculously unbelievable...
but surprisingly...even after acknowledging all these flaws...it's still watchable...it's still better than most shows around...there is no way this is anything lower than an 8...even if i am speaking from my perspective...
it's a good watch...Just ignore everything else...
Masters of Sex (2013)
as perfect as perfection can allow
As perfect as perfection can allow...it's perfect...LITERALLY!!...no flaws whatsoever...
it reminds me alot of MindHunter...it's quite literally almost the same vibe...i wouldn't be surprised to find out that some people who worked on it were somehow involved in this too...both share the same impeccable writing...i just hope sn 2 of this doesn't veer off like MindHunter did...
it's really hard to describe good things...coz good is just good...and that's it...but i will try...
the writing is just flawless...this is a story that is well told well structured...it's not melodramatic...it's a believable down to earth story...about some normal people that might as well be true for all i know...no TV shenanigans here...even the cliff hangers if there are any...don't feel like TV bait...it's just a well told story period...
the characters are believable...character development is done too well...and when a new character is introduced it's done so soo seamlessly...soo naturally...
this is perfection...truly one of the best television ever made...there's only a handful of these...so please let's enjoy this one...as much as we possibly can...
Bluestone 42 (2013)
no disappointments
It's funny it's very funny...it's a great comedy...
i feel like i repeat myself alot when reviewing comedies...because i usually say a comedy is one of the simplest things to judge...Just ask yourself a simple question...is it funny? If it is...it's great if it's not then it's not...the bar isn't really too high...
this here is definitely funny...it's funnier than MASH...MASH tries to be funny...MASH wants to be funny...MASH is desperate to get a laugh out of you...MASH veers into slapstick too many times for my liking...
but this show just IS funny...i didn't think war television could really be funny...maybe tolerable but not funny...this show gladly proved me wrong...
the jokes land very well...the writing is good...the comedy is solid...they balance it out with the emotional stuff and manage not to be corny or preachy...that's really hard to do...
it does have a few off episodes...but i guess that's to be expected...it doesn't lower the quality of the show...
i like the characters...i care about them...the lead is somewhat overfantasized...but it has to be that way for his character to work...
i like alot of things about this show...i can't recommend it enough...another British show unjustly rated if you ask me...
it's better than its rating...definitely better...
Fallout (2024)
soo painfully slow
FALLOUT
this thing is soooo daaaamn sloooow...it...is...soooo....slooooooooooow...i think i aged five years after watching one episode...
i couldn't get past one episode...and i hated everything about it...think of possibly any kind of flaw that could be possible wrong with a tv show....and i promise you it's here...these show has flaws in bucket loads...
apart from the sloowwness...and it is slow it's probably it's worst attribute...it's got next to no script...it's yet another show about how some apocalypse happened and people had to go live underground...how original!...silo already did this better....and silo itself is not a great show...but it's miles better than this...
it's basically copy and paste version of silo...just with some supernatural elements...there's nothing plausible about this show... i don't believe the characters i don't believe the plot i don't believe any of the motivations...
another flaw is the acting...and the writing of the characters...the actors probably do the best they can...the show tries sooo hard to be cool...every line of dialogue is the writer trying to make the characters as cool as they possibly can be...force the dialogue to be witty...it's fails...spectacularly...
This is an empty show...nothing to see here...
Red Oaks (2014)
almost...sooo close...
Almost...oh almost...sooo sooo daamn close...they almost made it over the hill...but it fell short...
from the very beginning...you could tell this wasn't the kind of show to blow your socks off...but it was still endearing enough to keep you watching...
the characters are decent enough...everyone's story is believable and somewhat interesting...more for some than others...
some characters are very poorly acted though...like both of the lead's girlfriends...the photographer guy...he doesn't appear real or believable...i get what they were going for...but it didn't work...the lead's best friend...horrible so is his love interest also...so i guess it wasn't a great acting showcase...
they actually did a freaky Friday...what a horrible idea...i want to that episode was the worst of the first season...but the episode before was waay worse...
it's the writing...lacklustre and uninspired...no real heart went into it...this could have been something...it felt fresh...it crumbles down into a soap opera...good premise...no stakes...decent story awful writing to back it up...
the visuals are good...the directing isn't bad...the music only falls flat a few times...there was alot going for this show...Just not enough...
Justified (2010)
soap opera with guns
Even i almost fell for it...but now i know the truth...i saw through the lie...that this is just a soap opera with guns...
it starts off just how a great tv show would...great acting great directing great writing great story...good premise...it promised to be more than some other police procedural...it gets on well after this...a few episodes in...
until it falls into a ditch...and now it's all about hilly billies...hilly billy tv that's what this is...
i really don't understand why they chose to go this route...the show had soo much to choose from...the writing could have taken literally any other course...instead it decided to focus on some family drama i don't get along with my dad i have an ex wife...
boyd as a character makes me want to stab my eyes with a fork...the actor that plays him...gets alot of praise...i don't see why...he's terrible...he can't act...was terrible in vice principals terrible in the gemstones thing...terrible in fall out...and he seems to be playing the same daamn role...pathetic...get this guy off our screens
after the story hits this bump...it never recovers...we keep circling around this...Boyd Winona the other chic...the ex the girl the nemesis...jesus it's soo bland it's soo stupid...
i don't see how people looked at this and decided it was good television...there's nothing here...
Primal (2019)
great...as a short film
This should have been like a short or something...
the cinematography is great...i mean it's Genndy Tartakovsky...everything about it visually is fantastic...it looks good...the colors the animation...everything is perfect...
but i don't think the whole no dialogue thing is sustainable...i mean it's fine for like an episode or two...but then beyond that it's like whaaat?!...what am i watching?!...if this show teaches us anything it's that dialogue is very important...it's the soul of any visual media...
it works for a while...i mean a cave man and a dragon or is it a dinosaur...they obviously can't speak a singular language...it's a great story for about 2 episodes...
and it's one genre approach is also very exhausting...it's just action action action...literally every episode...again...it works for like an episode...the cave man and dinosaur fight to bond...from enmity to a bond of codependence...grow out of it then...explore something more...
instead it just become an exploration of how the Dinosaur age was supposedly dangerous treacherous and violent...gets old pretty quick...
it's good...for only 2 episodes...
The A Word (2016)
sn 1
This is it!...this is the blueprint to all dramas of the universe...this is how a drama should be made...this is the prototype...
This show is perfect...it's superb...it's stupendous...it's fantastic...
the most surprising thing about this show...is the rating on iMdb...the rating is a joke...but then I've come to realize that all British tv shows aren't accurately rated...either too high or too low...this show's rating is waaay too low...criminally low...if it's not an American show...don't trust the rating...
This show balances plot story character...in a way that I've not seen done before...most shows don't get this balance at all...one has to suffer...not here though...
it handles the subplots soo masterfully...i am as interested in the subplots just as much as the main plot...in the world of cinema...this is known as a double miracle...it almost NEVER happens...it's a legend passed on for generations...
i am soo interested in the story...i care about all the characters...i swear...ALL the characters...in most dramas there's usually throwaway characters...not this show...i don't know how to stress this...
the writing is perfect...the pacing fantastic...the cinematography is subtle but pairs very well with the story...
it does have flaws though...for one it's only sn1 that's superb...the rest not so much...and this is a story with a very short span...I'm not going to want to keep seeing this for 12 episodes and beyond...it's impossible...
there's issues with dialogue some times...plausibility of character's actions...questionable motivations...but the shows rises above this...
great show...sn1 is a must watch for anyone and everyone...
Line of Duty (2012)
very weak writing
The writing on this show is completely horrendous...it is incredibly atrocious...
just off the top of my head...i can think of a dozen ways to improve this show...and all involve improving the writing...
the carcass of the show is good...the premise is great...the characters are good...it's just about improving the writing...Make it sharper...
character development is done haphazardly...there should be focused focus...for example...the first few episodes...Laverty gets soo much screentime and for what?!...we get to find out soo much unnecessary stuff about her that adds very little to the plot...
how to solve this in my opinion...show her once on a date with Gates...and then everything else about her is shown in dialogue...put more focus on Arnot's boss...he's the antagonist of some sorts...let's spend time with him...develop him into a real character...
the acting is mostly good...except the character of Laverty...the actor playing her is horrible...she's a shell of a person...very boring very uninspiring...when she died i was very happy...the story didn't need her...she was kept around longer than necessary...
the cinematography is also not impressive...the zoooms to indicate surprise shock or twists...it's soo juvinile....stop it...it lowers the show...and they're used soo repeatedly it makes no sense at all...
This is a show with soo much potential...but handled soo poorly it's just frustrating...
Shogun (2024)
flawed yet very good
It's a great show...there's no doubt about that...and all the hype is warranted...
usually I'm not a big fan of foreign shows coz I'm not that good with subtitles...but maybe there's a new kind of foreign shows...where there's a bit of English sprinkled in...
i watched Tehran and it was a lovely show...and the subtitle thing didn't bother me...coz they also did the sprinkling of English trick...it kinda tricks the mind i guess...but it works...coz i did hold off from seeing this show until i found this out...
while the show IS great...it does suffer alot of flaws...there's some plot elements that repeat a bit too much...like the whole Mariko trying to prove to Anjin that life is meaningless...Yabushige not being Trustworthy...the whole dynamic of the council...it just feels like the show is held back by them not elevated by the them...it doesn't use them as instruments but is limited by them...
i also don't really believe Anjin and Mariko's relationship...the whole concept of loyalty is not very well depicted...it's just mentioned alot and pushed in your face but there isn't any real showcase on screen...demonstrate just how much loyalty means to this culture...not just the results like people killing themselves and all...show the reasoning behind it...
Anjin isn't well portrayed too...poor acting...we don't get enough character development for Toronaga...by the end of the show we still only feel like he's just some smart mysterious guy...and also...there's a few things he logically would have told his allies...but he doesn't...possibly for plot development and all that...but it misses in my opinion...
.
But as a whole the good overweighs the bad...and it is a good show...it has to be...for all those flaws and still be this good...i used to call Arcane the best most flawed show ever...this probably comes second...
The Pacific (2010)
not well done...sorry
It lacks direction...doesn't know what to be...suffers from bad writing...bad editing bad production...
starts off pretty good...pulls you in...it's interesting it's great...and then somewhere out of nowhere...it changes direction tone and there's a huge shift...
characters are shaved off...screentime is pushed onto some new characters we haven't formed any relationships with...and we're supposed to care about them?
The negatives began for me...during the Australian episode...the army arrives in Australia and are supposed to spend a bit of time there...not much fighting...and then the showrunners decide to sprinkle in some emotional juice by trying to showcase loss and attachment by showing the guys get hitched and have to leave...the emotional significance of that...
it doesn't work...maybe it's coz the tone already expressed in previous episodes is totally conflicting...or maybe it's the actual episode itself that is just weak...it's a terrible episode...i think it's the shift in tone that is top jarring...and just feels out of place...
i don't care at all about whatever is happening in the episode...I'm supposed to o know...but i completely don't...just show me some close up shooting and people dying...that's what you sold...deliver...
then the next immediate episode introduces some new characters...with different back stories with loose connections to the initial characters...the show instead of recovering from the previous episode continues to sink itself...again the tone is different...the pacing changes and it feels like it's a totally different show now...
i couldn't continue after this...poor poor decision...
Messi's World Cup: The Rise of a Legend (2024)
superb
Starts off kinda slow...but it gets back on track almost immediately...and as soon as it's on track...it's unstoppable...
the pacing is good...the one on one interviews were great well done engaging and just very well suited...
the choice to include journalists and reporters is quite frankly ingenious...it makes the show...their input feels more like commentary than interviews...it's fantastic...
i remember watching the Real Madrid champions league documentary...and thinking it probably came too soon...with this it didn't feel the same...i was glued to the screen the whole time...i enjoyed every bit of it...yes i can still remember every game every goal...so there's nothing novel really...but it's still a great watch...i don't know if the writing or production is superior...probably suggests so...
it really draws you in...not too preachy...it can be enjoyed by both Football fans and non fans also known as Americans...it's for everyone...
great watch.
The Century of the Self (2002)
peeeerfectionn!
Perfection...there's no other way to put it...
this is the best narration i have ever seen...this narrator is sooo good i had to go look for all his other works...there's a few on youtube by the way...no disappointments...
he woos you in...he breaks down the subject matter so expertly so methodically...apart from the one episode of sex explained...i think this narration has to go down as hands down the best...
the documentary has great structure...it builds on themes builds and builds...and documentaries probably shouldn't have cliff hangers but it does kinda set them up really well...
one episode connects seamlessly into the other...and each episode manages to be it's own somehow...it's not exhausting...it's only four episodes...so no time id wasted...it really is the perfect documentary...
it's compelling...it's interesting...it makes me see the world differently...what more could i ask for...
The Good Wife (2009)
smells like shonda
I hate it...i don't get the hype...to me it just feels like one of these many popular shows...that are just shells...no substance...
i still keep getting surprised at how popular shows are nonsense and just utter garbage...i mean isn't that why they're popular?...people like things that lull them...people don't like challenging complex stuff...they want things that confirm their biases and comfortable view of the world...
This is another story about good vs evil...the good guys vs the bad guys...that's it...that's all there is to it...unrealistic nonsensical drivel...
i watch legal dramas like these and i think about For The People...i mean was it perfect? No...but it was realistic...lawyers lost cases...good people lost cases...evil people won cases...bad things happened to innocent people...experience mattered...cheating was depicted...i don't get why it got such a bad rep...and this show gets all this undeserved applause...
don't watch it...unless you're braindead...
The Knick (2014)
absolutely no flaw
What really is there to say about this show...other than it's simply phenomenal...
once you start you just can't stop...it's everything you'd want in a story...it's interesting...well paced...well written...well acted...well shot...it's just fantastic...
I've heard people talking about how the cinematography is underrated...i quite frankly didn't even notice it...because i was too busy being blown away by the story...
my favourite part about this show...has to be the acting...the actors don't miss a beat!...not a single one...i definitely believe every single character on here...Dr Thalkary...i don't even know if that's how it's written...the actor who played him is just a gem...
usually the best acting is showcased in the supporting cast...but here...the lead just steals the show...probably the best lead or protagonist ever put to screen...yes i said it...
i can't think of a single flaw...it's just perfection from start to finish...
i actually despise hospital dramas...or any kind of show set in a hospital...and i actually put off watching this thinking it's one of them...i am soo glad i decided to give it a try...
The Night Agent (2023)
pacing pacing pacing...
Pacing pacing pacing...jesus Lord!!
This show rushes all the parts that should be methodical and slow...and focuses on all the useless things...
the first episode is schizophrenic...one thing happens and before it's even ended properly...another has begun!.
Give the audience some time to digest and take everything in!...i mean even the characters look dazed...there's only one episode...literally one episode...that actually takes the time to build up to something...
everything is shoved at you...it's like Tiktok...they're soo Terrified that you might be losing attention...so they shove some high octane nonsense your way...
there's some good elements here no doubt...but i probably wouldn't have seen the whole season if I wasn't watching it with someone else...
i guess this is just another...pile of nothing for the masses...
Domina (2021)
they didn't care enough
Immediately i saw two episodes of this...i knew immediately that it was one of those shows...the shows that weren't lucky enough to get good enough writers...didn't get producers that actually cared enough...
there's soo much to work with here...soo much...you have history...all you have to do is bend it to your will...it's soo easy...just take history...throw away the boring bits...and add color to what's left...it's the simplest writing job of all time...
but of course they couldn't do it...they just muddled it up it nothing...
the time jumps...jesus Christ!!...this is the worst part of the show...it kills the plot the flow of story...and makes it that much difficult to follow...you keep forgetting who is who...by the fifth episode you can't remember who is who from looking alone...you have to wait for another character to call them...it's ridiculous...
the most interesting bits happen off screen...so you guess what's left...
there's soo much that is dumbed down...i mean come on...this isn't just aimed at American audiences is it?
