Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009)
Skateboarding Ninja Terrorists?!?!!?!
This movie had potential, or so I thought. Kevin James is a pretty funny guy and the premise seemed like a good one, if well written.
James plays a Mall cop who's a bit of a loser but has a good heart. The first half hour or so is pretty funny. Not hilariously funny mind you, but a chuckle here and there. It looked like it could shape up to be a goofy comedy with a goofy but lovable character. But the movie peaks about 20 minutes into the film when Kevin James "accidentally" gets drunk at a bar and makes a fool of himself. And then it's all down hill from there.
Next thing you know, his mall is overrun by terrorists on bicycles and skateboards who are flipping through the air, jumping off balcony's, flying through glass. It's absurd...and not in a funny way, it's just bizarre. Well maybe I did chuckle once or twice at how absurd it was...once or twice...literally.
Don't waste your time.
Just like all of the latest Happy Madison productions, it's crap. I'm convinced that Satan exists and Adam Sandler did indeed sell his soul...cause somehow his pieces of crap continue to consistently make money.
Rambo (2008)
Graphic Non-stop Violent Kill Fest :)
There is no real plot, no real character development, and little dialog.
The plot can be summed up as: some bad guys capture some good guys, Rambo and a team of mercenaries have to go save them, and a lot of people die along the way.
But it still works! Why? Because it doesn't try to be anything other than what it is, which is a Graphic Non-stop Violent Kill Fest.
The bloodthirsty will love this movie. I haven't seen a movie this violent and graphic in quite some time. The killing starts a couple minutes into the movie and doesn't stop for the next 90 minutes.
This is exactly what we want in a Rambo movie and Stallone delivers big time. It really feels like, at times, we are watching real battles take place. Imagine the intensity of the opening sequence of Saving Private Ryan. There are several parts of the movie that are that cool and that intense.
Don't listen to the critics, who are trashing this movie. This kind of movie is never going to get good reviews from the critics. Listen to those who have seen it.
If you liked previous Rambo's, you'll like this one.
The Celestine Prophecy (2006)
Book is great......Movie is terrible, don't bother
This film fails to capture any of the mystery and intrigue that the book offers. The main point of the book, the insights, are hardly even touched upon, leaving the viewer wondering exactly why everyone is making such a big deal about them and why they are willing to risk their lives.
The character development is not good at all. No background or personal development leaves the audience not really caring at all about what happens to them, and so the action sequences fall flat.
The search for the manuscripts ends abruptly, and with no real explanation, not leaving any sense of satisfaction as to what the whole search was for.
This is one of the worst adaptations of a book I have ever seen. It is horrible and a waste of time. If you have not read the book, skip the movie and read it. If you have read the book, skip the movie and reread it.
It is almost as if the point of making the movie was to discredit the book, that is how poorly done and ridiculous this movie is. It is a shame too, because it could have been good had they capitalized on it at the height of its success and they probably would have been able to get a good screenwriter and some good actors.
Please don't waste your time, READ THE BOOK!!!
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)
I was sooooo bored............I didn't get it
I wanted to like the movie, I really did. I know that the guy who did the movie has done some classics, movies that I enjoyed......and Bill Murray is in it, so I figured, how could I go wrong. Well, even he couldn't save it.
Wow.....I just don't understand how this movie has received the positive reviews that I have read on this site.
I got about a 1/3rd of the way through the movie and wanted to turn it off, but I stuck with it in hopes that it was going somewhere good......maybe it just started slow.
Nope! It went nowhere. The story was lame. The characters were boring. The movie was uninteresting and unfunny. What a total waste of time!!!!
