Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
I'm not a pilot boy... Honest review
1st I prefer it to the first film which always bores me.... I have a love hate relationship with the film... It's very 80s and how I remember the decade, the soundtrack is unbeatable and Scott made a very stylish film but I just don't dig the story line... I do like Cruise, he has made some great films but there is better 80s films then TG.
With today's society and generation I'm really shocked to see TG2 has grossed a Marvel gross considering it's not part of the new cinematic experience. It's a product of the 80s, it's not all about cgi heroes ect yet it's managed to make that impact and I will give it credit for showing when made correctly and older film concept can still make a big impact. Much same with Terminator, that could still work with the big man but in the right hands... And one thing TG2 has done is made Tom Cruise the biggest movie star of all time, literally. We have had names since the 1920s that are legends that have made an impact but Cruiseman has been a consistent player since 1983 and always maintained a huge status.... But with the gross of TG2 then it makes him the no.1 actor star of all time over every single man/lady to grace the screen.
Elvis (2022)
Hanks is good and honestly. ..
I think fans of this butler are hyping it up but in all honesty he looks rather creepy.... I'm sort but I can watch it fully without feeling he doesn't suit the part... Watch Kurt Russell in his Elvis 1979 and he looks natural in every way but this new lad looks fake in every way.... My dad was a huge Elvis fan and he would have something to say about this and it wouldn't be good... Kurt Russell still is the best actor to act as Elvis, followed by Bruce Campbell.... I'm sorry but it's an honest review, the lad just doesn't look right, too much of a pretty boy of today.... Elvis was a man of his time....
Inspector Gadget (1999)
How to ruin a childhood classic
Seriously who thought it would be fun having Broedrick in it, who said he was even funny... And Dr Claw is not what you would expect either.
The Ferrely Brothers was at one point going to make this, and their choice was the one we all would have seen thinking of Gadget, Jim Carrey... That would of been a class film and probably a bit gross out, which for the original fan Base would of enjoyed at that point.
Then Spielberg wanted to do it with Chevy Chase or Steve Martin, both again would have had the chops to pull it off... Yet what we got was a not so thought out piece of garbage. I've never met anyone who has seen the film or actually enjoyed it... and insult to the cartoons...
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
It's of its time....
I like Keanu, especially as John Wick... I never enjoyed Matrix when it came out and I should of as I was a teen of that time but I thought it was garbage. I was a Schwarzenegger lad so I prefered Terminator... and I was willing to give the new Matrix a chance cause the trailer made it look better but was I wrong... My kids are teenagers now and they found the franchise boring and the new one we turned it off over a 1hr in, really was a waste of money. And they said the Terminator was a dead franchise yet both Schwarzenegger came back to do made all thereviews budgets back and made enough to deserve another sequel.. The good thing is they was fun still to watch, well some of Dark Fate anyway, most of that was garbage...Just as this one was.... DOA. Only a true Matrix nerd will be excited by this one, if your a Keanu fan then stick with Wick...
Straw Dogs (2011)
Decent enough
And nothing to complain about here other then reviews by wannabe critics who think they can be a good judge... I watched this for James Woods who is great here, lovely to see Walton though he didn't do much... The other cast did a good job and the film kept me interested enough not to be bored... it passes 2 hours just fine...
Psycho II (1983)
Sorry Alfred 2 is better...
I love the 1st one but 2 will always be burnt in my heart... It's 80s, early 1980s so everything was just getting to how do we make a film better but the 1980s could have the worst script (this wasnt) and still be well made because in the 80s things just worked out well with movie making... Anthony is brilliant as always as is Loggia, and Franz.. But what stole my heart as a child was Jerry Goldsmith opening score, what was he thinking when making that piece... You feel the sorrow of love between a child and parent and this always made me think about losing my parents as did Somewhere in Time by John barry... I lost my father last year, and as he was passing I asked him to give me a sign then a few months on YouTube this score comes on and I just knew he was letting me know.... That's my love hate relationship with this film, and because of its effectiveness it had on me as a child it makes it the best entry in my opinion... But I love them all because who doesn't enjoying Perkins playing the character her helped mold... Now someone get Andrew Garfield in a Psycho rip off...
VFW (2019)
John Carpenter back to basics thrill ride
It's like a film been only released from the Carpenter days of film making. I'd love to see him make films like this again but the director clearly has a good eye and style upon him... good film too.
Danny the Dog (2005)
A nice little film
I am British, I am not a fan of British films after the 80s ended, I find them very dull and somewhat depressing but I did enjoy this one because it had good actors.... But let's be fair it's solid because of the late great Bob Hoskins, the man had a great personality and stole every scene... He should of been recognised more then what he was, he had a solid career in the US but it never really went the way it should of, he should of made films that Hardy or Fassenbender are now.... Unleashed is a decent little euro made film set in the UK with good actors but like I said Hoskins is the scene stealer in this one. ... true Legend.
Super Mario Bros. (1993)
Aged better.... But not without issues
OK I was 12, upset they didn't really do it justice... Luigi wasn't Luigi, King Koopa was Koopa, Toad was an idiot... But the early 90s Broklyn atmosphere and BOB HOSKINS as Mario was a perfect start... Fast foward 2018 my 5 year old son becomes a Mario Luigi Gamer so I introduce him to the film. I'm waiting for disappointment but no, he loves it, I love it... It has aged better because I'm nostalgic and remember the feel of that time when films where made better... So I enjoy it for what was made.
But Now the issues that could of been changed. The directors are the main issue here, why would you give somebody other then a fan boy a job like this😂😂😂😂... now JJ ABRAMS was about then, and he was quite a well known young lad, imagine if he was given this... It needed someone with vision. I like the Blade Runner feel but it wasn't enough. The director was the main problem.
Then there is the casting of Luigi, now while I didn't mind John Luguizamo he wasn't ready to take the role of Marios young brother, the change making him too young so he could have a love story with Daisy was wrong. The role of Luigi should of been KEVIN KLINE, go to I love you to death.... He proves here he had that right big screen Luigi persona for all ages. But my boy loves John now and that young Luigi so I can bypass that.
Hopper just didn't fit the Koopa role, originally Schwarzenegger was sought after and yes he was still a tank then and he could play a meanie so yes he would of been better, also with Schwarzenegger coming on board in 93 means a bigger budget, more interest and a better direction. So his name alone would of made this very special in 1993. Yes I'm aware Last Action Hero was a flop and over looked, but was it a bad film???? NO it was full of action and excitement with a great Director.
Then lastly toad, why wasn't Warwick Davis called and put a mushroom on his head... He alone was the perfect Toad choice, even the voice.
But the main issues here was because the directors didn't know what the heck they was making... It was the produces vision to make it like Tim Burtons Batman, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and I believe that was the right feel to go for when we young lads of the 80s and 90s didn't do Disney back then, we wanted bad ass horrors and adult action films... So we wanted our kids stuff made with an edge that even our parents could enjoy...
Super Mario World (1991)
Ratings is from a 7 year old
OK so there is 13funbags "stupid name" saying how stupid this is, let's point to this person and others the show was for children of the 80s and 90s, not the cgi 00s fiends... But My 7 year old loves his Mario and Luigi games and appreciates a time his daddy lived...
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022)
Good sequel partly because of Carrey
It's a good film in its own right but Carrey steals the show, again...
I like James Marsden but felt he was over shadowed by the Randall and Rachel story line, honestly that didn't need to be in there. 10 minutes of pointless story telling about them 2 just didn't fit right with me or within the film... "Wifey is homeeee", you will understand when you see this.
The director stated quite a few hilarious scenes of Jim and his Protegè was deleted to save time and add more story but I think fans and movie goers would of preferred these scenes to the Randall and Rachel ones.. Or even the main actors, they should of been given something better to do...
Sonic and Eggman are the stars here and it's a good show apart from a few pointless parts above.
Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997)
It entertains, does its job...
I think this received a big negative reviews just because Reeves was not part of it.. It's a well made action film, Patric is OK but needed a better leading man. It only had 3.9 rating because it is a sequel to Speed. Other then that and Sandra Bullock it is another story and a decent one of the 90s. We have a Dafoe as the main enemy so can't get any better then that.
Panama (2022)
It's ok for Mel
It's a decent enough, I've seen worse over the years... 3.3 rating is harsh and that's generally because if the haters of Mel Gibson that will go above and beyond to tarnish his films. Ignore wannabe critics and watch it with your own mind not others. The only issue I had was the camera could be all over and can mess with ones eyes... I don't mind Hauser but I'd rather see Michael Parè and Gibson in something like this...
The Batman (2022)
Slow, dull and boring...
Matt Reeves usually delivers but soon as the cast was announced I was lost and still am. None of them are great. I mean seriously 8.8 rating lol. It seems the more boring a film gets the more the attention everyone loves it despite it been such a slow film. I'm glad I have the Burton/Keaton films, they was dark and still with a comic book feel. I don't like films that was fun try to be too serious, it ruins the whole idea of a character. I didn't mind the Nolan films but even them easily over blown, Bale was great but no Keaton. I am actually gutted we didn't see Afflecks version, he wanted a gritty film with less cgi, man is capable and he looks like the comic book yet they go and change it all and cast Patterson, I mean what!.... Patterson after I saw you in the lighthouse I was willing to give this a try but the film is a let down. I'll put you ahead of Clooney but that's the best we can do.
Killing Streets (1991)
Parè deserves credit
It's better then most films I've seen and to be honest it is a good action film... Most of Parè's films have less then 700 votes and I don't undrstand why. He should of been a bigger star, he has more charisma then Tom Cruise. It's a decent action films with some good action sequences. The film does deserve better attention.
Warriors (1994)
Decent action thriller
Ignore all the bad reviews, they are making sound like the worst film ever made... If you like Parè and Busey then it's an easy hour and half to pass the time... Better then reviews make out.
Last Looks (2021)
Mel steal a good show
Wow, while most of Hollywood is trying hard to destroy Mel Gibson he is proving strongly why he can't be taken down. Great performance by a great actor. He has seriously turned into SEAN Connery more he ages.... Well made film, kinda made me think of Fletch with many great moments... Don't let judgement cloud your mind here.
Rose Blood: A Friday the 13th Fan Film (2021)
Bag of maggots
Boring film... The 1989 scenery is not accurate nor is the behavior of the army team, they are acting like today's brainless idiots. It's was just boring.
Finch (2021)
Johnny 5 meets A boy and his Dog
Well I enjoyed it, I'm a dog guy and even more so enjoyed for the sole purpose he did what he did for his best friend. I don't think today's audience of a certain age can enjoy a film like this without been critical about anything. If it was made in the 70s, 80s or 90s it would of been a box office hit, or cult classic. I find some films that actors of a certain era doing now are better then some of their work when they was huge stars. It's a film about a man, his dog and his robots.... A family unit struggling to survive. Ignore the poor reviews and low ratings, clearly they don't appreciate a true story of heart.
No Time to Die (2021)
Best of all The Craig Bonds.
I never liked Sky fall, it felt it was trying to be more then Bond should be. But for all the idiots out there, well I'd personally ignore them. This was Craigs best one, it had all the elements of a classic Bond film while leaning towards the Lazenby film, including its glorious song. If you are a real fan of James Bond and I don't mean SKYFALL then you will love this film. After this great film I'm sad to see Daniel go. Though some issues with secondary characters producers clearly had to point out wasnt needed just to try and please for today's society, don't ruin something that wasn't wrote that way.
Malignant (2021)
1980s horror themes
Clearly Wan wanted to pay homage to the 1980s horror gene pool, especially Italian horror where style was everything. It's like watching a film by John Carpenter/Dario Agento... Moment the killer puts on a glove and the camera works it's magic it's clear Wan was setting us up for some 1980s horror fun... Is it Better then Conjuring, Annabelle..... Yes it sure is. Creepy, Stylish and doesn't keep you waiting until the next kill...
Senior Moment (2021)
I enjoyed it, for a youthful Shatner alone.
It's like one of those later late great Burt Reynold'$ films he did with another great Charles Durning... The film is set in a beautiful place that just fills you with happiness. Shatner may have a gut but he hasn't aged a bit since 1994... Nearing 91 and he doesn't look to be slowing down. His body language and mannerism isn't that of a geriatric man. I just can't believe the way he moves, and communicate is 90.
Big Trouble in Little China (1986)
Best of the Best...
Kurt and Carpenter are just the best team you could ask for.. And Carpenter proves he knows the mythology of China well. He should of made similar films with his visual style. Mortal Kombat 1995 and 2021 both share some love towards this film. Let's hope that Kurt/John make another film before live decides differently..
Creed II (2018)
2 stars for Balboa and Drago
It's not the film that Sly wanted to do and that is a shame. B Jordan got cold feet, a meeting took place then Sly wasn't the original director no more. Film wasn't great nor was the montage scene. A scene between Drago and Rocky having a little fight was cut, why I wonder. And now Rocky is out of Creed 3 because MBJ says so, he was great in the 1st film but now he is basically doing what Tommy Gun did in Rocky V, getting jealous over the other star and pushing him to the side. No matter what they do, Creed will always be part of the Rocky franchise Stallone created.
The Devil and Father Amorth (2017)
Not Fake
I see some reviews refer this to fraud, fake ect.. How can a real life priest be part of something like this and lie. Everyone in the general population when asked what's your favourite they will just assume Exorcist but his best well made masterpiece is Sorcerer, 2nd is To Live and Die in LA. Then the exorcist 3rd. It was a big film hence why it will always be seen as friedkins high note. The things portrayed in this film wasn't really a thing been talked about in those days, same as near death experience's despite all been documented and investigated for since man became curious. Considering things like this happened in those day when it wasn't the latest fad it's shows you that everyone who shared the same issues didn't all copy one another for fame or attention. My mother had a NDE back in the early 80s and we'll before it became all talked about on TV ect, she saw Jesus and had this powerful experience. Not everyone lies, so why do they all have the same experience. It's hard to believe many incidents today due to social media as it connects us all like we have the one brain but back in the day before you could use all this people was having horrible experience's that the church would cover up and that was probably another stupid thing to do. Believe what you see here cause we mere mortal's know nothing of what the other side is all about...
