Bob Hearts Abishola (2019)
just ok but some of the characters are really irritating that make the show worse
I have watched the series a 2nd time and just realized that only a few of the characters are worth watching and that make the show like Bob, Uncle Tunde, Aunt Olu, Gloria and Kofu. Uncle tunde and Aunt olu especially are a delight to watch. I like Gloria as well as she seems to be the only rational person in their hospital group. The others are mildly to really irritating and bring the show down like Abisola, Bobs mom, Bobs brother and sister, Abisolas mom and Kemi (she and Abisola are the worst). I can understand Nigerian values when you are in Nigeria but if you are living in Detroit and interacting outside your home, when in Rome...you should know how to act, think and speak. Kemi in particular is so selfish and only thinks of herself (i remember that scene in the Nigerian airport immigration where she totally ignores Bobs family when they were asking her to vouch for them). Is that the Nigerian way or is she really that self centered? As if to make matters worse the family of Bob is so selfish as well. Also, how can Bob put up with Abisola? It looks like a loveless marriage where bob has to cater to the beck and call of Abisola. The show seems unreal if in a real setting. Even Abisola treating patients poorly doesnt show a good picture of migrants in the hospital profession. It is suppose to be a comedy but only a few characters are actually funny. The show was extended for 5th season though honestly it should have ended sooner.
Ted (2024)
Ted is hilarious
I did watch the first two in the movies so I expected this tv series to be similar. It was and it is just as funny. I watched it online and expected to just watch and episode or 2 and then continue it but ended up watching the whole 8 episodes till 5am.
The new family twist where Ted has settled is new and it shows that overall, he has been accepted as one with society. They are the supporting cast and they do an OK job especially the live in cousin (who they treat as a big sister) who they look up to. If there is anything missing in the storyline is how this happened and why Ted is with this family.
Tokyo Vice (2022)
pretty good
I watched this series just yesterday and got so hooked on it that i ended up sleeping at 5am.
For me, the only thing that was confusing was episode 1's first 10 minutes. Didnt seem to fit with the rest of the show and wondering if this would make more sense to put this on the season finale instead. I guess to create some kind of curiosity and intrigue which seemed to have worked.
The characters and the actors that played them were great. The yakuza organization in particular pitting a younger Tozawa against an older Ishida is interesting as well. It reminds me of the movie Black Rain and movies like the Yakuza (1974). From all the cast featured, I am only familiar with Ken Watanabe (from Last Samurai) and he played both roles well. He kind of reminds me of the late Japanese actor Ken Takatura (who played amazing roles in the Yakuza and Black Rain) Even his demeanor is the same and speaks only when necessary.
The season finale was surprising but not totally unexpected. From the reviewers, it seems that a lot were left hanging though I think ending it that way is a good way to keep the interest going for season 2.
If i were to guess who is not returning, it would be Miyamoto (Oyabun Tozawa had to kill him off to make good the threat on Inspector Katagiri and his family) and Polina (looked pretty obvious on the tape that she suffered a fatal blow and besides, if she was still alive, she would have let her roommate and/or her best friend Samantha know).
Sato, despite lying on the ground, bleeding from a stab wound is returning. He is one of the main characters and doesnt make sense if he dies and the series needs to develop a new character to follow all that he was.
Highly recommend watching Tokyo Vice.
Will Trent (2023)
I like it so far
Haven't read any of the books so I watched the first two episodes without any preconceived notions. The series is interesting especially if you like this Sherlock type of themes.
I am just wondering if the series, as it moves along, is going to explain exactly what happened previously, like why Will is so hated in the precinct, what the backstory is on the foster homes, why he has dyslexiaI, etc.? Tried to look it up but gave up as the books are described as pretty different from the tv series.
Also, wasn't expecting a murder to be solved in two episodes, when it is normally one. Will it be this way moving forward?
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
could have rate it higher
After watching the Mandalorian (awesome) and the Boba Fett (a letdown), was giving Obi-Wan Kenobi a lot of leeway as the show was taking place in an extremely short timeline.
If it was not for Ewan Mcgregor, would have rated this much lower. He is the saving grace of the 6 part series. The 2nd would be Darth Vader though I doubt he will play much more in the role as we all know they both live for their final matchup in "A New Hope"
The other characters are flawed. Leia is irritating as a 10 year old. Reva is like a trying hard character in her role as an inquisitor. I mean she speaks to Vader about her chance to become the Grand Inquisitor but we all know that the series ends with Obi-Wan Kenobi still living so she will definitely suffer in the end as she does neither deliver him nor Leia.
I admit there is not much to work with in this shortened timeline but c'mon, expect Disney to introduce characters who can actually play their roles convincingly.
Ten Year Old Tom (2021)
awesome
The show is so funny Even if i have watched the whole season 1, i continually go back and watch it over and over. I admit its not much on animation but the storylines, the one liners, making fun about anything and everything is what makes the series a delight. The creator (and he also plays the lead character - ten year old Tom) has made similar cartoons in the past and I actually looked this up and these were just as amazing. I certainly look forward to season 2.
A Guy Thing (2003)
a must watch thing
This is an amazingly funny movie. Jason lee and his supporting cast of julia stiles, selma blair, etc. Have such an onscreen presence that makes this movie a delight to watch. Must have watched this more than half a dozen times and it still worth seeing.
Son of Zorn (2016)
great show
Watched son of zorn ever since it came out in 2016 and continue to watch the repeats over and over. It is such a unique show, blending cartoonish zorn with real life people. Storyline is interesting and amusing. Don't understand why fox would cancel this show. Hoping that possibly one of the streaming sites (like amazon, hulu, netflix or disney) picks it up again.
