Minnal Murali (2021)
Heard some words about the growth of Malayalam film industry a few years ago, this film proves that point.
This movie is only my fourth or fifth malyalam movie I have watched so far and it also provides us with a quality content like others watched previously and can say that in proportion of movies released it provide better content to the viewers as compared to Bollywood. Prior to this, we have only seen shaktimaan in hindi dramas and some animations and Krish (based on ET the Extra Territorial) thus, not much development in superhero genre. In contrast to this, we have seen many successful Hollywood movies in superhero genre like Batman Trilogy by Christopher Nolan and Marvel Avengers Endgame which have received high praises and popularity, even in India and they continue to extract as much from the genre.
Coming to the story, in a self-contained village a ambitious tailer (because he wants to go to US to earn a fortune ) named Jaison played by Tovino Thomas suffered a lightening phenomenon on Christmas eve along with other guy named Shibu played by Guru Somasundaram, a worker in a tea shop who also plays the antagonist. After discovering the powers, they tried to test them and use it in daily life and the latter used it for robbing bank, killings to approach his love Usha. It brought him in conflict with villagers and minnal murali fight with him to save people of the land. The story writing is good and well implemented on screen although some cons are there. The acting was very good with special mention of Tovino Thomas and Guru Somasundaram and same can be said about music. The cinematography was excellent which is very visible in Jaison fight scene with the police and good VFX (visible in the fight scenes in the end) add stars to it, so I would like to appreciate the efforts of VFX team. It do takes inspiration from the Hollywood superhero movies but not a copy of it and provides a base for more superhero films in India. Not many cons, the first part of film which explores the lightening phenomenon and test of powers by two leads is bit slow but it pick up pace after that and also the powers are portrayed as bit hazy (not classified properly), maybe due to long story. Before ending, I would like to acknowledge it once more as both leads i.e. Protagonist and antagonist are given more or less equal screen time unlike other super hero movies, so great work from Basil Joseph. So, its a recommended film to people across various age groups and can be watched in a family space (not possible much in the period dominated by OTT players and poor content on TV). Keep Growing Malyalam Cinema !!
Rating - Perfect 10* ~ Jatin Singh.
Kurup (2021)
A Binge Worthy Crime-thriller, I guess !!
As for the story, it follows the story of Gopalkrishnan Kurup aka Sukumara Kurup (real life person) and him being a fugitive because of his smuggling of military goods and Charlie aka Chacko murder case (some movies are there on this incident) for making money which is also his motive. It shows many aspects of his life like his days at new military unit which is known as Indian Air Force, his personal life, shifting to Persia and the bragging about 8 lakh rupee insurance policy after coming back to India in the first part which is bit slow. In its second part, his real activities are revealed (which you may find by watching yourselves) and his struggle with Kerala police and here it picks up some pace. The acting was very good with special mention of Dulquer Salman playing Kurup and also appreciate the good background music. The story was good on paper but not implemented well on the screen as I can say. Other than that, it gives us a feel of 70s-80s culture in India which is appreciable. I have watched many crime dramas and thriller movies and from this one the inefficiency and corruption of Indian judicial system especially police is visible which we need to question that and make reforms (you can say that I am just bragging and taking the issue in another direction but that's the problem even after many years). Lastly, it is a worthy-watching movie on a weekend on Netflix.
Until Next time,

Death Note: Desu nôto (2006)
A Mind-boggling Anime !!
I have recently started watching anime and not a expert as of now. As for the story, it follows a student named Light Yagami who finds a notebook (known as death note) which was thrown by a shinigami named Ryuk (god of death) for fun into human world. Then, Light who always had vision for ideal world or utopia or new world used the notebook to kill criminals and those in his way and followed by his rivalry with sharp-witted people like L, Near and Mello. To add to your knowledge, the anime shows two different worlds :- human world and shinigami realm (ruled by great god of death). I am not telling about about rules of death note and note it yourself by seeing it. As for review, I would say that the narrative has been amazing and it is full of suspence, thrill and darkness. All the characters were amazing with there act with special mention of L, Light and Near and so is the background music. I would credit the makers and the team for this masterpiece and there are no cons to put out as such as narrative has stable and good pace and not feel boring and the theories are not that heavy (as for me). It is a recommendable show to you all and also, there is a less known movie produced by Netflix.
Itaewon Keullasseu (2020)
Neither the best nor the poor !!!
As for story, it starts with the protagonist Park Saeroyi
fight with son of business tycoon, lost his father because of them and put behind the bars by manipulating evidence and there he comes with a plan to take his revenge by taking down there company. His plan covers a span of 15 years including his time in jail, deep fishing and other kinds of work , opening of his pub and lastly taking down his enemy's company. If I talk about some good points, they are good cast, character development to some extent and music. It highlights that one can use modern financial institutions to there gain while many other shows portray them in negative light. There are some problems also like the time span this show covers is 15 years and there are certain gaps in portraying them for instance, a time period of 7 years is skipped altogether and the narrative feels scattered. Also , the narrative is slow in the beginning but picks the pace from last three episodes, so one might feel it boring and difficult to adjust it later. Lastly, it does not address the mental problems of both the protagonists properly but that's the case with many dramas. To conclude, overall not a bad deal.
Lucifer (2016)
A Binge-Worthy Show !
So, as the last season has come I would like to review it. As for story, it centres around a god son/ angel named Lucifer Morningstar, lord of hell who comes to Los Angeles for fun and sex and with the story going forward, his character keep evolving and finally achieve his calling as healer of souls in hell. This show in a way reflects the dilemmas of human life through the imagery of celestials and tried to revise the old religious belief system. As for acting, it was quite good and so was the music. The plot , props and costumes were amazing. Despite this, there are many inconsistencies in the story some of which are prior to the deal with Warner Bros , for instance some character like Eve, Rory come suddenly and the same with some theories too. But, I more or less can say that it is a Binge-Worthy show with good actors, music, costumes, props along with some inconsistencies.
Dark (2017)
A Perfect 10 for Storyline,Acting and Music !!!
As for the story , it revolves around a town named Winden and multi-dimensional time travel across various time periods to find the origin to stop the apocalypse, so everything exists. The story may look incomplete but I don't want to give spoilers and would like you to realise yourself. The title "dark" is well justified as many stark realities exist parallel and show us complexities of human relations. The acting was just fabulous as is the story-writing which is visible in moving forward of the narrative or story. The same I can say about music which was amazing for a thriller series and I personally liked God's Whisper. Although at some point of time, narrative may seem dull but the overall suspense of the series covers it. At the end, I will say that it is one of the best shows for me and would like to encourage you to watch it if you previously watched Stranger Things ( an American series which can be somewhat called a lighter version for teenagers) and this one is for adults.
Mimi (2021)
A Binge Worthy Movie !!
To cut it short, it focuses on theme of children in orphanages waiting for someone to take them home along with surrogacy and obsession with fair skin in India but former theme is somewhat compromised. The story was overall okay and well implemented on screen. As for acting it was quite good and music soothing. Further, more films should be produced focusing on children in orphanages which could be documentaries or associated with real-life events or anything else thus bringing the situation of thiers to Indian masses and urging them for adoption as a better option although media is equally responsible but nowadays they only run government propaganda.
Breaking Bad (2008)
Best Show Ever .... I mean it.
I will keep it short. It is based on a story of cancer facing chemistry teacher who gets to became the drug lord of south west America to fulfill his desires and kind of provide for his family during the time of recession. Coming to positives, the storyline is just amazing and well-implemented on the screen for which I would like to appreciate the makers and this makes it least boring show I ever saw. The acting and the actions are excellent and the music soothing especially the intro one. It introduces us to a drug crystal meth or methamphetamine not known much to us. I have no criticism except the role of DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) playing key role in the society not emphasised in the ending although portrayed in positive light. Further , I would suggest you to watch its prequel like Better Call Saul and El Camino for moving further. Till next time , Have a A-1 day.
Sarangeui bulsachak (2019)
Best K-Drama I Ever Watched !
To begin with , this show centres around the values of humanity and unity of people torn by political boundaries through a unrealistic love story. The story seems to be well-written and implemented on the screen and it has many good thrilling , romantic and hilarious scenes which adds to the brilliance of the show. The actors were amazing in playing there respective roles and I would like to praise the special entry of Kim-So Hyun as a division 11 guy working as delivery boy. The actions were good considering it a 13+ age group show. Other than that, it brings out some interesting facts about North Korea which you will counter for instance, the train journey and find out more by yourself. Also, it shows how a cultural interaction would be between North Korea and South Korea and the gaps there.
As for cons, I found it a bit boring after episode ten and episodes seemed quite stretched but all is well that ends well. More of such works are expected from the Korean industry and international companies like Amazon prime or Netflix should bring such amazing content to other countries. In the end, I would say that this show would remain in my memory for a long time.
Saikojiman Gwaenchanha (2020)
One of the best k-drama !
To begin with, here the character development has been very impressive, a good storyline and a different one as the stories of fairy tales in blended into the life and stories of the characters. Along with that, it also highlights the issue of mental health and how one can cope up with it which can be seen in the title " Its Okay to Not be Okay ". It also has some comedy and hilarious scenes which adds to brilliance of the show along with romance. The acting was also amazing. I have no cons to suggest for this show except long episodes as seen in many Korean dramas. I am a beginner in watching k-dramas as its my second only after "Crash Landing On You". I hope that its interesting although a short review.
Sweet Tooth (2021)
A Fantastic Show !
To start with, the story is quite well written and this makes the show very gripping. All the actors were good in playing there respective roles. It spread the message of family and unity among people in tough times, in this case a pandemic or apocalypse. I would like to give a special mention to the scenery.
If talking about the cons, the team can work a bit on costumes although not bad and the slowing down of story in middle (which makes it boring for viewers) but the climax covers it all. Waiting for the upcoming season eagerly.
The Last Hour (2021)
An Amazing show put by Amazon.
To begin , the show has somewhat new kind of story in a new genre i.e. Supernatural crime thriller. The story begins like that of a crime thriller but the main narrative of shamanism and dark side of it take over after that. The actors have done a nice job with special mention of Arup played by Sanjay Kapoor, Dev played by Karma Takapa among others. The makers should get praise for picking up northeast region at centre (ignored in history and politics of our country) and this can be noted in use of local actors and showing some parts of there culture or lifestyle. As for cons, there are some inconsistencies in narrative of shamanism and lack of complexity which can be worked upon by makers in the sequel.
To conclude , the narrative has been built and its sequel would be worth watching one.
