The Reluctant Landlord (2018)
Easy going comedy
I would say this series wasn't the funniest thing I've seen. But it is watchable in my opinion. I feel it is lighthearted, and not over the top. The main character Romesh , is serious but does have a sense of humour. The bar lady, I feel is eye candy but fits into the show well. But I feel the character lemon, steals the show. He can be funny without even trying. I feel this program does need a few more series though. I think it would be a shame to end at this point.
Kanchana 2 (2015)
haha
I feel this film was a great laugh and feel the first half was better than the second. The story wasn't too sophisticated but it was good. However once the film got to the second half it seemed to drag. Parts of the haunted spirits scaring the two ladies overran and the final fight sequence went on a bit too long. The special effects were excellent, the comedy was simple but effective. The actors were excellent and the chemistry between them was good. The trick i think with these movies is a simple storyline and simple jokes, which it delivered on. In the second half the story of how the spirits became spirits i feel was overdragged.Overall I think the film was very entertaining but a bit on the long side. Worth a watch.
Vicky Donor (2012)
Great film
A lot of films I think try to be great, but I feel this did it without trying to be. It was funny, informative, dramatic and had a great storyline. The couple Vicky and ashima were great, but I think doctor chaddha stole the show. I feel this movie had a feel good factor, and the whole family can enjoy it. I feel too many Bollywood films have violence in it, and I felt it was refreshing too see one without any violence at all. I feel more Bollywood films should be made in this style. To summarise the story, Vicky gets pushed by doctor chaddha to donate sperm, he refuses initially but eventually gives in. He continues as the money is great, and meets ashima a pretty bank employee who he ends up going out with and eventually marrying him. He hides his secret sperm donation past and the fact he did it even after marriage. She finds out after discovering she cant have children. She leaves him and they eventually reconcile. Doctor chaddha shows Vicky and Ashima all the children he has made at a party, and after that tells them there is one of Vickys sperm children who lost her parents in a car accident. Vicky and Ashima adopt her.
Shamitabh (2015)
needed more, needed less
Seeing the trailers I was anticipating seeing this movie. On it starting, I felt a bit disappointed when Dhanush was using Amitabhs voice and when I found out he was mute. Even though I feel this a fresh concept, about a mute actor borrowing somebody else's voice to become a Bollywood actor, I felt frustrated listening to Dhanush repeat after Amitabh sometimes. I feel Dhanush is a good actor even though this is the first film I have seen him in, but felt it would've been better if we could watch him when hes communicating with sign language with the subtitles below. I feel the film became boring after 20mns, but watchable up to the interval. The second half was slower, and I could almost drift off at some points. However it picked up at the end and had a good climax. I agree with some other reviewers here that the film should have been shorter, I feel 30 mns could've been cut out. Overall, I feel its watchable, but probably not for the majority.
Ex Machina (2014)
hmm
I went too see it with high hopes, but found some bits slow. It reminded me of other UK movies, quaint rather then action packed.I feel it needed more of a story to it, and could've done with another 30 minutes if it had so. I found it a bit gripping, but wouldn't call it anything wow! The inventor was portrayed as a baddie, and the actor played it well, but he needed more character development. I think all of the actors were good but needed more screen time. I feel the inventors assistants role should've been developed much more.
Wish the main guy who the robot fancied got out of the complex and eloped with her! Worth watching? I would say 50/50.
I (2015)
Depends on what you are into
I don't understand any south Indian language, or much Hindi, but watch Bollywood and south Indian subtitled films regularly. I found this had a good storyline, but I didn't like the way he took revenge on his attackers. I think the violence was over the top, and thought in the end made the hunchback/bodybuilder look no better then his attackers. Sometimes I felt I had to laugh at some of the revenge scenes, but I think that was the intention from the director. Overall, if you don't like violence, avoid it. If you do, then I think its watchable, but I think its a bit lengthy, I think it could have been shot in 2.5 hrs. Watching upen patels performance as john in the hospital after revenge had been taken on him by the hunchback/bodybuilder was a giggle.
Not a classic in my opinion just a standard film.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008)
Why? Stop being greedy and let this franchise R.I.P
This film was terrible in my opinion. OK the first film was a success, they cashed in on that with a sequel, and they should have left it at that. I enjoyed the first movie , the second one less. But this was a joke. Rachel weisz being replaced by Marie Bello was a bad move. But even if Rachel Weisz was in this film, i don't think she could have saved it. Not surprised Rachel turned down the script. I think what made this film a failure was a lack of originality.(There is only so many times you can use the same storyline and with this franchise you cant really change the storyline.) The mummy storyline has now been repeated again in this film(Some idiot opens the tomb, the mummy comes back to life and wants to take over the world, and the good guys stop it and save the day.) The franchise is now repetitive, and i heard more mummy films are on the way(oh no)the makers of this franchise should do us all a favour and like a real mummy bury this enterprise and let it rest in peace.
Black and White (1999)
Crap, could have been a much better movie.
I am not sure what this movie was trying to portray, whether it was white kids wanting to act black, or life stories of black hip hop artists/basketball players living in new york. If it was trying to display both it made a total mess of it.
No story in the film was shown in depth, out of the all star cast only Brooke shields, Robert Downey Jr and Mike Tyson shone. Nice to see Claudia Schieffer on screen, she can act but her part in this film is awful. I became bored from listening to one constant hip hop song after another as well as the black rapper actors speaking in an unintelligible language which made the film even more confusing then it was before. The only highlights of the film for me was Robert Downey Jr confessing to his wife he is gay at the end, and Mike Tyson giving advice to a young rapper (he doesn't just box!) Anyways in my opinion, terrible, but if you got time to waste then perhaps watch it.
Ashes to Ashes (2008)
Good start...bit overdone though.
I think ashes to ashes has got of to a great start,
but i think the first episode was too fast moving and loud.
Trying hard to live up to life on mars, it is in danger of going over the top. However, i think Keeley Hawes is an excellent choice, intelligent but balanced for the part.
Her attractiveness obviously lights up the series as well.
Philip Glenister is brilliant as usual, but i think it is to early to say how this series is gonna go.
I hope it goes well.
Soundtrack complements it marvellously.
Skins (2007)
Strictly a teenage drama
I thought skins wasn't bad, but is for teenagers preferably between the ages of 15-17 or so.
It consists of several teenagers who party, and generally, be teenagers. I thought the plots weren't bad but lacking in any depth but hey, what do you expect from a teen drama.Despite this, it is still reasonably entertaining. Watchable.Again, wouldn't recommend it to any body over the age of 18.The main actor, who played the boy in about a boy, was good.Gosh hes grown!
Anyway being honest, i don't see this series making a second it is not interesting enough or that brilliant, it is not in the league of shameless by a long shot.
Worth a look, but don't expect to be astounded.
Honest (2000)
honestly terrible
This film is one of the worst I've ever seen.I am a fan of all saints, but the three girls from the band were appalling in this movie. The acting was terrible, the plot was almost non existent. The other characters were under developed, the only decent character of any entertainment value was the father(James Cosmo). The Mornington crescent scene was of some minor comedy, and the near end scene with the father getting the crook to cut the melon was a laugh. The American actor Peter Facinelli wasn't bad considering how bad the rest of the cast is(exception James Cosmo of course).I am not surprised shaznay gave this film a miss.
The Good Thief (2002)
reasonable
I think this is a good film, with an excellent performance from nick nolte. He is a natural in the part, and the other characters are reasonable. The ambiance is spot on, due to the good musical choice and romantic setting of the french Riveira. However, the let down is the lack of a clear storyline, and the characters were not particularly portrayed in any depth. The DVD of this film has annoying interruptions, which could be mistaken for a fault. The story is a bit of a European oceans 11 but i think the film carries itself in its own way.Intelligently made, Tcheky karyo and Nutsa kukhandize put in good performances. The ending is a bit of a anti climax, but the overall structure of the film makes up for this. Not in the Oscar league of films such as basic instinct or Titanic for memories, but still reasonable by any means.Overall, not a bad film but quite a good one.Worth a look.
