Gukyeongi (2021)
Inspector Koo - Very entertaining
I tried to watch this show before, didn't get past E1 thought it was going to be boring, but second time I was hooked, loved this show, 2 great lead characters, powerful acting by both, the cat and mouse game was clever (ok some events impractical, but hey this is entertainment) not sure about the gay element, added nothing to the story, was no need for it.
Creative use of graphics and camera angles, I liked the chemistry between Koo and Santa, provided some funny moments as well, the only part that i lost interest was the garbage dump scene, went on too long.
Lots of twists and time switching, sometimes a little confusing until later events explain why things happened, all well done, binged this show in 3 days, definitely in my top 3 of Korean shows.
Satisfactory ending (some shows are ruined by poor ends) good story potential for a season 2.
Daebakbudongsan (2021)
Great show from start to finish
It was a ghost theme first got me into Korean TV series, enjoyed every minute of this, action, comedy and drama, liked all the characters in this but the lead actress Jang Na-ra made it special, storyline changed and evolved through 16 episodes, never a boring moment, usual good quality Korean sets, locations and effects, plenty of Korean food consumed)) a second season would be good if they can create some interesting stories (now all the main mysteries have been solved) I made quite a few predictions as the story unfolded but got them all wrong (which is a good thing)) nearly forgot to say the soundtracks really set the tone perfectly, watch this series.
The Terminal List (2022)
totally engrossed start to finish
So good to see a decent series produced, gripping all the way through, songs set the mood perfectly, plot hardly original but different enough to keep you guessing the next moves or events, lighting a bit dark at times, not your usual one good guy against one bad guy for 8 episodes, multiple good and bad characters keep the story going and interesting, really liked the reporters character. Good ending that will make you happy and sad.
Kastanjemanden (2021)
brilliant from start to finish
Loved this, was a little lost to start, but everything was clear by the 2nd episode, great characters, especially the 2 detectives, perfectly chilling atmosphere and creative plot, a moment in e4 I thought wtf, but then I understood why later on, good ending, ready for season 2 now)) gave it 9/10 but no reason really for not giving 10/10.
Binsenjo (2021)
the best Korean series yet
Never given a 10 before but this has to be 10/10 original storyline as usual, great mix of humour violence, love and friendships, this is my 6th Korean series now and by far the best, subtitles can be frustrating as you have to really concentrate, but I know it wouldn't be the same without the original speech, the usual mix of food and drink and corrupt people everywhere, great characters and acting.
Just finished e18 and now have to wait for the next 2 aarrgh.
Aelliseu (2020)
another good original Korean series
I really like a lot of the South Korean series, often very original ideas and story lines, quirky, serious and funny, really enjoyed most of this series, but the plot in the last few episodes seems to have got lost, almost as if the writers didn't know how to finish it, going round in circles till they finally got to the end.
Something about South Korean series is they always have a strong love element, lots of eating and drinking (is this their culture?) with some very funny sections and other more serious parts, well worth watching this.
Capitani (2019)
interesting enough
A small village, someone dies, and everybody lies. Quite enjoyed this, disappointed and pleased I predicted the end from watching episode 1, but lots of false clues and back stories, didn't like the lead detective, he was an idiot through most of it, the policewoman was good and did the most work, a season 2 would be good if she was the detective and not him. A worthwhile series, I didn't notice any plot holes like some reviewers, if there were any it didn't spoil the story.
Dare Me (2019)
surprisingly good but no ending
Starts slow and builds up, really great vibe throughout the season, good acting, great characters, amazing camera work, Beth is by far the star of the show even though they try to make it Addy, without Beth this would be very average, loved the views of Beth on top of the world, soundtracks are great and add perfectly to the story, not your typical teen drama thankfully, I would really recommend watching this except the season ends without finishing the story, it does leave enough clues that you can finish it yourself, but that's not the point is it. Needs another season or you will be left wanting.
Hotel Artemis (2018)
disappointed
Hey this looks interesting, another special hotel with rules, but no, total rubbish, I kept watching and waiting for something exciting to happen, tried to make sense of the plot and characters and then it ended,,,,,, don't bother
Tidelands (2018)
seen it 2 times now
I liked this show, first 6 episodes were ok, but the last 2 seemed rushed, the plot spiralled, lots of people died, everyone was all over the place. another 2 episodes would have given time for a better conclusion, not sure if the writers planned for this. a second season?? seems unlikely now, there is enough storyline left for another 4 episodes and 4 filler episodes)) sex scenes meh.
Hanna (2019)
good expansion of the original film
First, great performances by Esme Creed-Miles as Hanna, Mireille Enos, and Joel Kinnaman, without them this would have been a very average series.
I have watched the original film twice, so after reading some of the reviews here I wasn't too hopeful for the series, but I really enjoyed this, S1 starts well, slows down and gets boring in the middle, but keep watching because it ramps up quickly and has a good finish to the season.
S2 is as good, with a slightly different theme, slow in the middle and a reasonable finish
overall a very good thriller series, lots of action, death and destruction, nice looking locations and good filming, great soundtrack which really adds to the atmosphere. Thankfully not so much progressive themes to spoil the entertainment. The only thing that really annoyed me was the good guys constantly made stupid mistakes and the bad guys seemed to have crystal balls and time travel, anyway lots of potential for more seasons, looking forward to the next one.
Biohackers (2020)
a good series from Germany
Well, watched it in a day, which make me feels bad for the producers, but 5 minutes into this and I knew I was going to like it, all the characters were likeable, even the villains, quickly found myself involved, if there were any plot holes or bad science it wasn't obvious to me because it moved so quickly, light and funny moments but with a serious under vibe continuing throughout, thankfully the teen romances didn't take over the the main story, looking forward to the next season.
checkout other stuff from European countries.
now a note about subtitles, this didn't need them because it was dubbed into English, so switch them off, they are confusing. like a lot of Netflix shows, the subtitles can be wildly different from the actual speech, I suspect one person is translating the audio and a different person is translating for the subtitle and coming up with totally different meanings.
