The Mist (2007)
Terrible Movie!!!
This movie had no story line to it. I kept waiting for something terribly interesting to happen, but nothing did. In fact I found the story filled with nonsensical dead-end subplots that failed to tell anything. Like the whole stuff about it being the fault of the military. How was it their fault, how did they do what they did and how did they get these results. I was hardly impressed with the cheap theatrics and "special effects", in fact instead of horror, I found myself laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation and the acting of some of the performers. I kept waiting for a point, for something to develop, and then thank goodness the movie was over! Sorry Stephen, not one of your best! :-(
Hot Fuzz (2007)
Terrible Movie, don't waste your time or money
I went to see this movie at the local theatre tonight, as I wanted something to see and only a few English languages are played at a time. Boy was that a mistake. I don't know what kind of trash they were trying to push off, but this has to be one of the worst movies of the year. I fell asleep twice in the movie, because I just got really bored with the fantasy and lack of seriousness and maturity that would realistically surround the events that occur. !!! It started out interesting, then it just got really stupid and unrealistic. The last 20 minutes are ludicrous and a very sad and painful rip off of movies like Rambo or Die Hard. What a waste of time and money. I want my 7,000 won back!
The Queen (2006)
Great movie, very enjoyable, very powerful
First of all, I was surprised to see the theatre packed for this one. A lot of older people went, and a number of British accents could be heard behind me.
This movie is great. Its an intimate look behind that especially crucial week between when Diana died on Sunday August 31, 1997 and the following Saturday when her funeral was held. Brought back a lot of memories for sure, for an event that is now 9 years behind us.
The leading lady is powerful, with a commanding presence as Queen Elizabeth II. I heard a lot of comments, which I certainly agreed with, about how realistic this portrayal was. Also commanding, but a work over done was the character of Phillip. The Queen Mother was portrayed as an old foolish women, which is hardly what she was in reality.
Along with the striking sets and locations, which led to the feeling of regal and splendor, this movie is great overall. Great job, looking forward to acquiring the DVD!!! God Save the Queen, Queen of Canada!
King Ralph (1991)
Ignore the critics, this movie is excellent!!!
I have enjoyed this movie ever since I first saw it some 14 years ago. In fact, I just bought it on DVD last week! This was John Goodman in one of his funniest roles, with the exception of his role of Dan in 'Roseanne'. There is a reason this movie is on TV a lot, and it speaks to the longevity of the movie and of the humor. My favourite scenes are too many to mention, but there is one I like best. Its the Burger King scene when the lady says "Aren't you......ya, ya......your the new King!" It great because it gets the movie outside the actual studio, and into a real life situation. And my favourite line is from Wilhelm, when he informs Ralph that being King is a "God's burden to bear, but unfortunately is must be born by a king." Makes one think if it makes sense to envy the Queen of England, in a latter case Prince William who will play this role for real!
E-Ring (2005)
Bunch of Macho Flubber
I watched the premiere last night. I found it a very macho show, with Bratt strutting around with the built body, bedding the girl, and strutting around the pentagon with an arrogant smirk that he is Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.. Let any new officer would be stupid enough to insult an under secretary and have a career to worry about afterwards. Seriously need to tone this show down, and lose the smirk and cockiness Bratt, this is not the gym. It can be witty and serious as well, but that constant arrogant smirk makes the show too smug for my liking, and I was waiting for this show too. Tone it down, get a leash on that boy, and it could be as good as the West Wing.
The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005)
This movie is so funny!!!
This movie is great people, you must see it! The cast is wonderful, they all play such amusing parts. I laughed so many times I was almost in tears trying to get my breath back. The language is probably a bit stronger then it needs be, but the humor is right on, and its great to see a film that takes on so many taboos in way that has not been seen, and then even further then American Pie! The amazing thing is although he seems kinda sad in someways, this man is was actually happy the way he was with his toys and bicycle. I thought the message was good, especially in that he waited until marriage. Still that Beth girl was so hot, I wanted her, and probably would have done a Cal myself. The end was just so absurd that I could not help laughing and enjoying it. Great movie, a definite must see!!!
War of the Worlds (2005)
Horrible Movie, waste of good time and money
This was such a silly movie. At first it seemed rather interesting, but as the story ran on and through all the actions scenes I was rather expecting something big, although all this was going to culminating into something big. Boy, was I let down. This movie dragged on rather pointlessly for what was it 2, 3 hours. I was bored halfway through, and was trying to keep interested. Overall I though it was a dumb movie, and rather disgusting with what the aliens were doing with the people, and hardly worthy of Spielberg. And what was the point of Tim Robbins role? Babbling lunatic murdered when Cruise's character did not want to listen to him anymore??? As for Cruise........ well in light of recent events, can't say I am surprised about his acting in this movie. It was terrible. What happened to Cruise? He used to be such a good actor. Disappointing a waste of good plot and talent.
The Village (2004)
Sad that some viewers can not see the beauty in this film (might give some character of the film away, so don't read if you have not seen it)
I have read over a few of the viewers comments in here, and just returned from seeing the movie myself and hearing the comments of the people in the theatre, and all I can say is how sad I feel for them that they can not see the beauty in this film. The ending was a surprise for sure, but not unreasonable. If you follow all the evidence of what was all said (and for those who miss the points made, they repeat again and again throughout the movie what they are), it all makes sense. The village and what is going on there is something I share a sense of longing for, as I am sure do many people. I have often thought, would it not be great to live in a world like that, free of the burdens of all this Western society crap? If we could, would we not want to preserve it? I feel the pain of the characters that drove them to seek out this solace and understand their desire to have that, what we all truly long for in our isolating and often painful world, the innocence we lost, and a world of simplicity. Kudos to the director, you see in true colours, I only wish everyone else would try to as well.
Blank Check (1994)
It is for Fun, not to make a statement about the meaning of life!
This is a good movie. Something fun about watching money be blown at a super rate, especially from a kid's point of view. Take it for what it is, a fun little movie about a kid's dream coming true, and what a kid might do with $1 million dollars. Don't like it, don't watch it. They make movies for the watchers, not the people that have nothing better to do then complain in their lives.
Paycheck (2003)
Interesting Plot!
This was a rather good movie. Ben you have made mistakes before, but this movie is not one of them. I saw this movie Dec 20 at a very special screening. I must say the plot was quite ingenious, never seen this idea yet in the movies. Acting was very good, and there was a share amount of suspense, and finally a Hollywood movie that does not degrade to the lowest denominator resorting to human lust for sex to advance the plot or keep the action going. Good action movie, when it opens Dec 25 go see it, its a good time filler for couple of hours. Hope you are as impressed as I was! Keep up the good work Ben!
Wag the Dog (1997)
Cool Movie, but ended so sad!
This movie was very funny, it was cool how they pulled off all those events that were not even real. Even more surprising was that the rest of the world seemed not to know that there was no war going on, much less doing anything about it. THe possibility of such things dicussed in this movie are prime examples to show why no one trusts the U.S. government. Sad ending, all he wanted was credit for his work, and why not he was a famous producer who did his best work in covering for this sleazy president, and for that they executed him. Don't trust the U.S. government is all I can say!
The Amanda Show (1999)
Remember, this show is for kids
I am a bit surprised by some of the comments from users regarding this show. This show is meant to appeal to kids, and so it is not surprising that adults might not find it amusing. Some of it is rather silly, but the show does have moments. I am an adult, and sometimes watch it and I think the Judge Trudy sketches can be good, I especially like when she stands up for the kids, and punishes the parents for being idiots. And of course when Judge Trudy shouts "BRING IN THE DANCING LOBSTERS!" Have some fun, and don't take things so seriously.
Wasabi (2001)
Excellent!
Saw this movie last night at a screening of French films at my school Wilfrid Laurier University. It is very American almost in style, surprising for a French film I guess. Reno does an excellent job, the story line was interesting and keep going, and kept my interest, despite the fact the film did not end until 1:30 am! Must see more French film, very interesting!
The Master of Disguise (2002)
Dumb. Don't go! Might give away some of the details, so don't read if you have not seen it yet!
I was quite excited to see this movie, as I really like Dana Carvey's work on SNL. But this movie over all was a real disappointment. What is the story exactly? There are some funny moments, but there is a lot of garbage stuff in between them. The best part of the movie as far as I am concerned was after the credits started. Only then did I get to see what attracted me to the movie in the first place, seeing Dana in the different disguises he did, and some that I don't actually remember seeing in the film. The ones they show on the commercial are not that funny when put into the actual movie. Unfortunately, most people get up and leave when the credits start because they assume the movie is over. In most movies the movie is over when the credits start. Here, there was another 10 minutes of footage after the credits! But the plot is stupid, and in the role of Pistacio or whatever, Dana's accent is so fake. It started feeling kind of like a warm and fuzzy Disney movie in the beginning, but then it just goes into Dana's character constantly acting like a jerk. And as for Brent Spiner's characters running gag, it dulls quickly. I would not recommend this one to anyone, save your money. And to Dana, this is not your usual calibre of effort, what gives?
Spider-Man (2002)
Go see this, you will not be disappointed!
What can I say! This movie was more then excellent! I got to see it at the first showing on opening day here in my city of Sarnia, and frankly I was dazzled. Toby my man, were stellar! As for the rest of the casting you were amazing. The effects used in this production were very definitely "special effects". It continues to amaze me how year and year again Hollywood pulls this kind of magic off. I was already a big fan of Spiderman since I was a kid, but Toby (who was already in my good books for being a strict vegetarian like myself), you can definitely add me to your fan base. Way to go everyone, I can't wait until the next one! Then then.....
Are You Being Served? (1972)
What can I Say, I LOVE this show!
I love this show so very much! Ever since I first had the honour of viewing this show for the first time, I have loved it. I have seen each episode more times then I can remember, and yet still every night I watch them again. I have grown to know ALL the characters personally, and feel like I am a part of what feels very much like real life at Grace Brother's Department Store. What the characters said, and everything that happened, I know as a very pleasant dream. Dive into the joy of the working staff of this wonderful series, and you will not want to leave. Listen, and you can almost hear the wonderful Mr. Humpries's saying "I'm Free!"
On another note, I must just give a huge thank you to everybody was ever involved in Are You Being Served?, and Are You Being Served, Again?. Because of this show, I grew to love many other wonderful BritComs (British comedies). Thank you to all cast members, crew, the very men who brought the show to TV, extras, etc. To those who have passed on, rest in peace brothers and sisters. You may have departed this world, but I for one will never forget you, and the wonderful contributions you made. To the fictional staff of Grace Bros., thank you for allowing us a just a peek into you lives. I just wish I did not have to leave. Thanks all, your work is remembered certainly by me, and millions of fans past, present and definately future. Grace Bros. will continue to be open, as long as someone keeps watching and remembers.
