Squid Game: The Challenge (2023)
Weak ASF
Bottom line it should have been like the real squid games. What's the point of watching a show based on a brutally violent series but instead we get people walk away alive, this was worse than watching Hunger Games which is a watered down version of Battle Royale. This was such a waste of a series and they could have produced a follow up to the popular series that gave birth to this train wreck. I dont understand how people liked this show or even found it entertaining. Overall if you like tik tok style entertainment and basic TV then this is the show for you. Social media has led to this type of demise. So disappointing.
Empire of the Sun (1987)
A visual masterpiece
A masterpiece of a film. Literally the shots that Spielberg chooses, tells a story without any dialogue needed.
Great performances by a very young Christian Bale and John Malkovich, they made a great duo and their chemistry on film is very authentic.
Bale's character Jim evolves brilliantly from a spoiled rich kid to a young man that is still kid at heart. His innocence of the world still shows even in a time of war.
Every aspect of the movie from the set design, costumes and capturing the time period was met with superb attention to detail.
It's a no brainer that this movie received several well deserved Oscar nominations. It's a definite watch.
Scream VI (2023)
Still missing Wes Craven's spark. Way better than 5
The story improved a bit. Way better than 5 since they had something to piggy back on. There were some interesting approaches that worked being it was set in New York.
*Minor Spoiler* Now the major problem there were not alot of death scenes, especially with it being a slasher horror film. Way to many attacks just to keep the cast together which leads me to believe this will tie into another sequel.
*MAJOR SPOILER* The big reveal being the family of Ritchie was given away pretty early on (if you caught it) with the acception of Ethan as the missing bro. It's a direct take from Scream 2 with Mrs. Loomis avenging Billy just remade. Ritchie was by far the worst Ghostface besides Amber and continuing his story was meh. To have three killers (technically 5 if you count the film students in the beginning) and only 10 deaths, two of which were off screen brings the points down.
The gore was there, but half of the scenes were just attacks an unfortunate trend since 5 to save face. Better writers are needed in this franchise, but the entertainment was atleast 2 to 3 points higher than 5.
Angel (1983)
Definitely a cult classic, but not bad.
Fitting in with every 80's clichés and hooker stereotypes, this movie actually delivers. Aside from the timeless cheesy acting, the story and movie itself is not half bad. It follows a high school student Molly (aka Angel) who moonlights as a prostitute to support herself since her parents are dead. Things work for her until a serial killer begins killing all her close friends. Angel takes matters in her own hands as she partners with a detective and cowboy street performer to put a stop to this very 80's style killer. I'd definitely tell people to decide for themselves, but definitely approach it as a straight to video release.
Wendy Williams: The Movie (2021)
Just bad
Horrible casting, Wendy should have been played by Laverne Cox or anyone from RuPaul's Drag Race, we all know what Wendy really is. The directing was bad as they try and inspire any kind of sympathy for this person, the story is not the truth, she sold herself out to come up, but they try and show her or him like they're a decent person. This so-called film was similar to Disney doing Dahmer's bio pic and wanting you to see both sides of their supossed story. Im sure Wendy's people had a hand in it and wanted to label the self proclaim queen of daytime talk as a saint. A definite pass don't waste your time.
Nope (2022)
Jordan peele pulls a Tobe Hooper
Some film history Tober Hooper made Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) a very shocking horror film. He then went on to make Poltergeist (1982) two different types of horror. One true horror where Poltergeist was horror but the whole family could watch it, this is Nope. This was more on the Sci fi end, great suspence, but nothing like Get out or Us. Alot of story and at times too much talking, but definitely a great mystery and always kept you guessing.
